And so begins October flashes and a new theme

Itβs October and getting close to Halloween and Chris doesnβt know whose bright idea it was to watch horror movies. Heβs not fond of them even though he was sort of in one if you counted Carriers.
Zach is here in LA for a very short time before he heads back to NYC and Chris canβt help but wish heβd move back to LA full-time. He understands the allure of New York to Zach, and Zach did grow up in the East, but still Chris prefers him living close.
After the last slasher film, one of three chosen by someone other than him, the others left. His buddies. He loves his friends. Everyone of them is precious to him. But heβs glad nevertheless itβs only him and Zach now.
Normally Zach rents a place from friends of his, a place with great views and an even greater pool, but heβs only in LA to film an hour guest appearance on a talk show, so this time he didnβt bother as heβs not staying, and though Zach had intended to get a hotel room, Chris talked him into staying here.
Chris goes into the kitchen to pour himself another glass of cabernet and he almost offers Zach some but remembers Zach stopped drinking. Heβs been indulging himself all night, probably because all the films kind of terrified him. He briefly wonders if itβs wrong to drink in front of Zach, but Zach didnβt protest earlier, so he pours himself about three fingers worth.
βWhat are you doing?β Zach asks from Chrisβ living room.
βGetting more wine.β
βWell, hurry up, will ya? Thought we were playing cards.β
At Chrisβ suggestion they were going to play the silly game, Go Fish. Heβs exhausted, honestly, but he also doesnβt want to go to bed because that would shorten his final hours with Zach, whoβs flight is supposed to leave the next evening.
Chris did wonder why Zach didnβt protest more to the suggestion, but he wasnβt about to look a gift horse in the mouth.
He stifled a yawn and was about to turn to leave the kitchen when something caught his gaze through the window. He jumped back, startled, spilling wine from his glass as he did so.
βJesus!β
βWhat are you going on about, Pine?β
βThereβsβ¦thereβs something outside.β
βFunny.β
βZach, Iβm notββ
Zach steps into the kitchen, looking cool, breezy and gorgeous. Somehow despite the fact Zach is wearing sweats and a t-shirt just like Chris is, Chris feels schluppy next to him.
βWhatβs the drama?β
Chris points and moves toward Zach until his back is plastered against Zachβs chest. Surprisingly, Zach makes no move to put any distance between them.
Zach squints. Heβs wearing glasses, but squints anyway. Heβd recently complained that getting old meant no matter whether he wore contacts or glasses, it was still hard to see.
βWhat?β
Chris points again, his hand shaking.
As Zach moves closer to the window, Chris shifts so that he is behind the other man, and well protected. His heart slams in his chest as he holds onto his friend.
Who bursts out laughing.
βThe spider?β
βY-Yeah. Biggest damn spider you ever seen.β
βGet real,β Zach chuckles. βThat spider is tiny. Iβll give you that her web is kinda big. Want me to go out and get rid of it?β
βWould you?β Chris pleaded. βI mean what if that thing gets in the house?β
Zach smirks. βWhat if it does?β
βYouβve seen Arachnophobia, havenβt you?β
βI have though Iβm pretty surprised you have given your fear of spiders.β
βAn old girlfriend made me watch it,β he mutters.
βWhat we do for love.β
βOr sex,β they both say at the same time.
And Chris wants to smile, he does. But not before Zach takes care of the monster outside his window. He somewhat forcefully pushes Zach toward the back door.
Zach gives him one of his trademark sardonic looks and grabs the broom.
Chris holds his breath as Zach makes his way outside into the backyard outside the kitchen window. He covers his face with both hands, unable to look.
Zach screams, βIt got me, it got me! Help!β
Eyes opening wide, Chris bolts to the door to save his friend, when he seems Zach simply standing in his backyard smirking at him, broom gripped in his left hand.
βYou asshole!β
Zach laughs. βIβve slayed the dragon, Pine.β
βWeb and everything?β
βYes. Sheβs a goner.β Zach comes back into the house and returns the broom from whence it came. After all he was a slayer.
βThanks,β Chris whispers, feeling shy somehow.
βYouβre welcome.β Zachβs teasing glint is gone from his eyes and heβs moved closer to Chris. βNeed a hug?β
Chris simply nods and Zachβs arms come up and around him, pulling him close. Chris allows his nose to land right in Zachβs neck. He smells like strawberries and Chris has no idea why. He closes his eyes.
βYou need a shave, Pine.β
He laughs, somewhat wetly. βYeah.β
He pulls away but not out of Zachβs arms, and instead finds himself staring into Zachβs dark chocolate eyes.
βDo you have to go back to New York just yet?β he asks out of the blue. He can see Zach is surprised the question.
βUh. Need me around to take care of more spiders?β
He nods again and this time Zach smiles a genuine smile, and itβs gorgeous and Chrisβ heart flutters.
βOkay, sure. I can stay a little longer. Go Fish?β
And Chris knows itβs to break the intense mood between them. Part of him is relieved but another part, secreted, is disappointed. He pulls out of Zachβs arms and grabs up his wine glass.
βSure, get ready to lose, Quinto.β
βYou wish.β
And as they turn to leave the kitchen to return to the living room, Chris glances toward the window. The spider is gone.
My hero, he thinks. And takes Zachβs hand.

Ok, so, if it can’t be ME with Chris, Zach is a great second choice! LOL
What you do for love. Or sex. Uh, yeah. Foreshadowing maybe? They’re just so easy together, and I swear this is EXACTLY the kind of thing that has or does or could happen. So easy together.
Yeah, I kinda love it. You predicted that very accurately too.
This is my absolute FAVE of your October 2021 flashes.
Yep. That’s MY prediction!!!!
How could it not be? My 2 fave guys in the perfect setup.
(Of course if you wanna write a sequel, please feel absolutely, positively, super free to do so!)
Nothing but happy heart and grins here, boss.

Just the fact that it was Pinto I knew you would love it π
This one was fun to write with the spiders as I have heard he really does fear spiders!!

3 more things.
1. You have this whole PINTO folder on AO3 of Pinto and it’s not NEARLY full enough. *hint hint
2. I didn’t catch this typo the first 2 times I read it (cause my brain filled in the missing word), but it jumped out and slapped me the 3rd time:
“Chris bolts the door to save his friend”
Because it hit me – HE BOLTED THE DOOR SO ZACH COULDN’T GET BACK IN? I mean, that wouldn’t save Zach. Might save Chris though! πππ (I mean that’s what I’d do! But I’m more scared of big spiders than Chris is). Of course, my brain first read it as “Chris bolts TO…” I’m guessing that’s what you meant. But BIG difference! πππ
3. I promise you, I’d never let that broom back into my house. Cause babies might be in it and hatch and be all over the house!! New brooms are cheaper than emergency room visits for chest pains! π
Perfect fic to end the week and start the month!!! πππ

ha you are quite correct, bolts “to” the door but perhaps he would bolt the door when he realizes Zach is just teasing him and he wasn’t eaten by a giant spider π·οΈ
Good point on the broom! π
I will add it to the collection later this month

My exact thought j, regarding the broom. I recently had a disagreement with my husband who I got to kill a spider on my car. He wanted to bring the broom back inside, after he killed it!! Once it touches a spider, if itβs outside it stays outside. You just canβt be too careful these days.
I really enjoyed this story and how Zach readily agrees to stayingβ¦ and the hand holding at the end! Love it!! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

Spider slayer π
This was cute. I’d totally react the same way to a spider.
