“In fact our replicators do and will replicate turkey,” Sarek’s voice carried over to where Jim and Spock listened, hidden in the hallway of Sarek’s house. “Because no actual bird is sacrificed, it is quite acceptable to do so.”
“Oh. I didn’t realize. That’s wonderful.” This was Jim’s mother. And yes, Jim and Spock were listening. “Does it taste like real turkey?”
“I confess I do not know that information as I never have developed a taste for meat and feel even trying something similar would not be palatable. But it is supposed to. In ancient times on Vulcan, pre-Surak, Vulcans would eat the flesh of animals they hunted.”
“Did they? Wow. I wasn’t aware of that either.”
Jim and Spock, and Winona for that matter, were all on New Vulcan visiting Sarek. They’d arrived two days before. Last time Sarek had visited them on Earth, Sarek and Winona had a flirtatious relationship going on. Which was why when Spock and Jim were going to visit during what would normally be Thanksgiving for Winona, she decided to come with them.
“There are many tales I could tell you that I suspect you would find fascinating, Winona.”
Jim looked at Spock, widening his eyes. “God, they’re going to end up sleeping together,” he whispered.
Spock’s lips thinned and he shook his head. For a moment Jim thought he was going to deny it. But then Spock put his hand on Jim’s forearm.
“Jim,” he whispered back. “They already are.”

Wow – great concept on the replicated meat being ok, but no Vulcan knows if it tastes real since they never had and never will have a taste of the real thing! Talk about endless circle. That’s like Spock’s “Everything I say is a lie” routine for the androids. LOL
I LOVE the idea of Winona and Sarek together.
But only THIS Winona. With EITHER Sarek (in my head) because I love aos Winona. And I only say “either” because though TOS Amanda gave her Vulcan a run for his money, I wanna see AOS Winona give TOS Sarek all heck. Cause that, my friends, would be 4th of July fireworks pretty much every day, seems to me. I think she can take him! I’d make book on it!
Alas, that lives only in my mind.
AOS Sarek is a whole different Sarek, to me. And I am so on board for AOS Sanona. Sarona. Or Winonek. Winorek. Whatever! It works!

I love the idea of Winona and Sarek finding love together, They both lost beloved spouses and their having a second chance at love together is a great thing, I’d love to write a whole fic about it with Spock and Jim in it too of course but I doubt I’d get a lot of readers on board. Just not a pair most are invested in. But I can indulge myself in little flashes anyway! 😀

I enjoyed this flash! Spock and Jim eavesdropping made me chuckle. The dialogue between Sarek and Winona is cute. They definitely are very interested in one another.
My twins, who have been vegetarian for a number of years now, were just discussing yesterday how stem cell grown meat might taste. And they were concerned that it would taste too meat-like. If and when it ever becomes available in grocery stores, they said they would have to try chicken first before they would ever go to something like red meat. They weren’t sure they would ever develop a taste for “real” meat again.
I also love that Spock has cued into the fact that Sarek and Winona are sleeping together before Jim did! Lol! I think that Jim and Spock are about to become step-brothers!

I had a vegetarian co-worker who used to eat all the vegetarian breakfast items that were supposedly designed to taste like meat. She told me once that other vegetarian friends didn’t understand why she would seek out the taste of meat, LOL. She said she liked meat she just didn’t want to eat it. LOL

That’s how my kids are. They’ve seen too many videos of how animals are treated in the meat industry. My Oldest is vegan, which is harder. No cheese, no dairy, no eggs! I could probably live , unhealthily, on those three things alone! Lol! Vegan cheese is weird and doesn’t melt well. Some Vegan milks are ok in recipes or Starbucks coffee drinks, but I couldn’t drink a glass of them. The Impossible Meats and Beyond Meats are very good. I’ve had a lot of them. Hard to tell that they’re not meat. Be warned though, Never, ever eat tofutti (sic?) brand hot dogs! I’d rather eat rubber bands. Taste is terrible and the texture is weird.
