This is a mini sequel to October Romance from 2017
“Hey, it’s the dog from last year.”
Jim eyed him out of one closed eye. “I’m not a dog. Not this year.”
Boyce got close to Jim in the hospital bed and scanned him with a medical equipment. “What are you supposed to be? Big Foot?”
He raised his arm to block the light Doctor Boyce shined in his eyes. “Ouch. Do you mind?”
“What is his condition, Doctor?” Spock asked from somewhere in the room. Jim couldn’t see him.
“Seems to have a bit of a concussion.”
“Seems?” That was Bones. Sounded outraged too. “What kind of a doctor are you?”
Boyce straightened and gave Bones the evil eye. “Listen, son, I was treating injuries when you were still in nappies.”
“Can we maybe focus on me?” Jim wondered.
“You’ve got a nasty bump on your noggin.” Boyce smiled. “No fleas though.”
Jim would have rolled his eyes except it would have hurt.
“You’re going to have to spend the night for observation.” He glanced over, Jim figured, at the other two. “Your boyfriends will have to come back tomorrow.”
Bones choked.
“Boyfriend,” Spock said icily. “I am Jim’s mate.”
“Oh. Okay. I assumed you were a threesome.” Boyce patted Jim’s shoulder. “Get some rest. I’ll send a nurse in to remove that costume. Whatever it is. Try not to end up here next Halloween.” He eyed Bones. “Now that I think of it since it was the other one last year and this kid here this year, it’ll be you next time.”
“Over my dead body,” Bones mumbled.
Boyce looked at Jim. “What happened anyway?”
“I slipped in, uh, cow, uh, you know, at the Halloween Festival and hit my head.”
“Ah.” The doctor nodded. “That explains the smell. The nurse will give you a sponge bath too. You two out.”
“But—”
“Out. He needs rest. Come back in the morning.”
Then all three of them left and shortly after Nurse Ratchet appeared a few minutes later. She seemed to take pleasure in yanking his ruined costume off and rubbing his skin raw.
“Want anything?” she demanded when she was done.
“Coffee?”
“Nope. You can have milk.”
“Chocolate?”
“Nope. You can have one cookie. Oatmeal raisin.”
Jim nodded. “Okay.”
“I’ll be back.”
Jim sighed. That was exactly what he feared.

I had quickly read this when it popped up, but had no chance to comment. My husband tested positive for Covid yesterday morning, before I got home from working overnight. I spent the day getting needed supplies, soups etc. Clearing a space that I could sleep, sterilizing surfaces. Then I had planned on going to work last night. But when I woke up on the couch, where I was sleeping, I had a sore throat and a headache and I was afraid that maybe it was a precursor to Covid. So I called out pretty much at the last minute, but there was somebody available who could take my place as the supervisor overnight. This morning I don’t have those symptoms just my underlying nasal stuffiness that I have quite a bit of the time.
This morning, I did what I could to help my patient here. And then suddenly the furnace stopped working so I had to check the oil in our underground oil tank which apparently according to the EPA is a big no-no these days, but I don’t have the money to replace it. Seems to be adequate oil in it. And then I had to hit the furnace’s emergency switch, cross my fingers and somehow it seems to have turned back on. Praying that it stays on… it is somewhat chilly but not cold out m…but it is sunny. Just ate breakfast at 1pm. Didn’t have the opportunity to or the ambition to earlier.
Now back to our regular programming .
I think this story is adorable. It made me chuckle when I read it last night, was it last night I read it? I dunno! Lol! At least Jim doesn’t have fleas. Lol! And slipping on a cow unmentionable… ughhh! Gross!
The comment about boyfriends… lol! Spock certainly spoke up quickly! Ain’t nobody sharing his Jim! And Bones was speechless, which for him is quite remarkable!
Then enter Nurse Ratchet! Ain’t nobody messing with her.
No coffee, just milk and one singular cookie. Power mad nurse ehhh?!!
I enjoyed this story. How can I find the previous Halloween story this is a sequel to? I’ll try to search in the 🔍 bar. I’ll see if that works. I’d like to reread that, before Bones has the next accident. Lol!! And before my patient requires me again. I actually gave my husband a cowbell, that we got years ago at a hockey game, to ring if he needs me and can’t get me quickly. It seems that sometimes when he tries to talk it triggers a cough reaction. I gave him the cowbell, cause sometimes my phone service inside my house is spotty. Thank you VERIZON.
I have this weekend off, because it’s my regular weekend to be off. I had also taken off Monday because it’s Halloween although I’m not really having any plans other than giving out candy. We still get some trick-or-treaters, just not as many as we did some years ago. My twins are away visiting friends in Boston for the weekend and my oldest is doing her thing down in New York City. Still living in New Jersey with her significant other, at their mother’s house temporarily. 🤷🏻♀️
Now I’m also going to try to read the latest chapter of your spooky Halloween tale. 🎃👻. Wish me luck cause I think I’m gonna need it.

See when M got Covid there had already been kissing between us so I stood no chance! LOL
As I said before I am wishing your husband well. It sucks being sick with Covid the flu whatever. I had the Shingles shots a while back and got fever and chills from THAT
You recently re-read it. It was October Romance. Jim saves Spock from being beaten up and he is wearing a dog costume and Boyce keeps teasing him about it. 😀
We don’t get trick or treaters but M buys candy for them anyway LOL

WTH?? I read it on my phone while the electricity was out (and I sent you a VERY SHORT email I think you didn’t see telling you it was out AND that I hated hunt/pecking on my phone and I’d comment later when the power came back on.) Which, I commented on others and forgot to get back to this!
Of course I LOVE IT. Perfect Friday before Halloween fic. They’re all so cute. Boyce out-Bones-ing Bones in the grumbling routine!
Boyce thinking they were a trio. SO NOT NOT NOT. The writers let Karl play Bones as a much more loveable curmudgeon, but still NO. De? The a**h*** writers just wrote him as a plain hateful, cruel, vindictive, insubordinate jerk to Spock. And could be to his captain too. I never found that cute nor endearing whatsoever. As far as I was concerned back in November of 1968 up till today, Natira coulda kept him and good riddance. (Hey Jim tried to pawn him off on her the next time they would be close by! lol)
Jim thinking PAY ME ATTENTION!!! That is SO aos Jim early on! (And trust me, if they won’t, I’ll be glad to!)
I ALWAYS think of that name as Nurse Cratchet. I have no idea why. But when I misheard it the first time, it seems to have stuck with me. Slipping in cow you know what. Yeah, Boyce was just mean too.
Anyway, I loved it! (But I did NOT love the power going out for over 3 hours. And it went out for a short time the 2 days before that, too. For no reason. It hasn’t gone out during any storms. Just fair weather! SMH!

See I think Boyce is funny but I do have a twisted sense of humor ha ha.

Absolutely agree on the 2 actors. In fact, IRL, I’d probably like De even more than Karl, and I like Karl!
(No idea why my email didn’t work on phone. Still, I use my phone for almost nothing but blocking spam calls, it seems!)

I just wrote a long comment, in which I told you all about my husband coming down with Covid yesterday morning, before I came home from working overnight and the rest of my sordid day. And then it had my comments about your October flash with Jim in the hospital after slipping on cow patties. And posted it and then Used the search bar on the top of your page to search for the October 2017 romance, and found the blog entry that mentioned it and found the story that way. Came back here to comment that I found it. But now I don’t see my comment. Ughh! Maybe my comment is circling somewhere in the Internet. We’ll see if this comment appears!

I’m like seriously ready to cry. Nothing has gone right in the last 36 hours! No the furnace is being wonky too. It seems reluctant to turn on when heat was summoned. I had to go out to check the oil level in the underground oil tank which is a big no-no according to the EPA these days. But it’s what I got but I can’t afford to replace it. Had enough oil. So I hit the emergency switch on and off. And I hit the red button on the furnace it says only press once. And then after a little while it didn’t turn on. Not sure if it’s staying on as it should… crossing my fingers cause it is a weekend and that’ll just be more money then a regular weekday service called which costs enough as it is.
Yesterday morning, before I got home from work my husband tested positive for Covid. I was scheduled to work Friday night and I planned on doing it although I spent most of yesterday getting supplies, food, etc and sterilizing things that he may have touched. But then yesterday night when I woke up to go to work I had a sore throat and a headache so I called out sick at the last minute. Luckily there was somebody there who was working who could supervise. So at least I didn’t feel too guilty. I woke up this morning and I don’t feel like I have a headache or so I throat. Just my nasal stuffiness which is fairly typical for me
My twins are away in Boston. They left yesterday morning to visit friends for the Halloween weekend . I think that brings you up to date on my current situation. My husband is pretty sick with this Covid. He has a harsh cough and when he talks it seems to trigger a coughing spell
. I don’t even know what I said in my original comment earlier this afternoon, that got lost in the Internet. Still can’t explain why it got lost. I had quickly read the story last night but wasn’t able to have the opportunity to comment upon it. I’ve got a run out to the grocery store because there’s a few things we still need. And I’m clearing out a space in my father’s old bedroom downstairs in case I come down with Covid and my twins come home because where I’m sleeping is a public area I’ve been sleeping in the living room! I’m exhausted and frustrated!
I really did enjoy this short flash which was a continuation of the 2017 story. Which I will read when the opportunity presents itself. The story did make me chuckle when I read it last night whenever it was? Spock immediately responding that Jim is his mate after being mistaken for a threesome made me laugh. Spoke is definitely a jealous lover. But he has no need to fear because Jim is devoted just to him. Bonus was choked speechless at the comment! Which for him is quite some thing.
Then enter Nurse Ratchet . Ain’t nobody messing with her. She really needs to work on her bedside manner. No coffee which I could understand. But only milk and one singular cookie.?? Lol! I bet Jim won’t be ringing the call bell very often to summon her.
