There’s an interesting phenomenon on AO3 that continues to leave me puzzled. Those that follow me as as an overall writer on there (as opposed to following a specific story) is constantly fluctuating. Saturday I had 660 followers. This morning I have 658. I have absolutely no clue what I did to turn off those two followers. But this happens constantly to me. And I am always left wondering why.
Had a pretty nice weekend of watching mostly Christmas movies on Saturday.
I managed to watch A Christmas Carol with Alistair Sims. This is a 1951 version many quote as their favorite.I like this version but it’s not my favorite, though it’s quite well done. There are a couple of things I don’t care for. One: the Tiny Tim (he’s actually a cute little boy) who is the same size as the actress who plays his mother. There is a scene where they are walking along the backdrop of shops and they are side by side and the little actor boy is the same size as the actress playing his mom, Hermione Baddeley, who was 5″3″. I’m sorry but if you are going to play “Tiny Tim” you are supposed to be a small, frail boy. Not someone who looks like they could run out and play soccer with a healthy glow.
My other issue with this version is that Scrooge’s long lost love is renamed, inexplicably, Alice. The story is quite clear that her name is Belle. Whatever is wrong with that name, actually written by the extremely famous author that you feel the need to change it to Alice, is beyond me.
Otherwise, it’s a fine version and Alistair Sims is definitely a fantastic Scrooge.
I also watched It’s a Wonderful Life, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, and the Little Drummer Boy. I did some online shopping for Christmas also.
Sunday I went to see a Christmas show as well as went to a nice dinner.
So all in all a nice weekend.
I have begun the next chapter of My Devotion, though I haven’t got it completed or even know when I will have it done. With Christmas going on, my regular updates will likely be slower.
I am working on a story called I Heard the Bells, which is apparently a hard sell for most of my regular readers (if I have any) because it’s not getting much love. Ah, well. To each their own. Can’t say I am not disappointed though. Should have stuck to my original idea of not writing any more Christmas stories.
I’m crazy busy at the real job right now so not sure when my next update of anything will be but I know for sure it won’t be today.
Have a good week.

I’m glad you bothered bc I’m loving that story.
That reminds me that I had a goal to collect a few different versions of A Christmas Carol this year. *scrambles off to amazon*.
And AO3 is inexplicable. Period.
Hope you have a good week as well!!

I highly recommend the Patrick Stewart version if available. But then I heart PS big time. As you know.

Sometimes I think followers can be fickle, there’s no telling.
I haven’t seen that version of “A Christmas Carol in years.” I watch every year “It’s a Wonderful Life,” Iving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” and “Santa Claus is coming to Town.” I miss the older animated shows as I am not fond of computer animated ones. To me they lose the genuineness of the art. I guess thar’s the artist in me talking.
I think your Christmas story is very well written. I wish I knew why mine is not getting much attention but to each his own. I am still sticking to it.
Best of luck with the job and I am glad you had a great week.

Well I can tell you in a general sense why Christmas Spirk stories are generally not that popular on there. One) Spirk’s popularity is down in favor of the Kirk/McCoy paring in AOS (Which never became a thing in TOS because no one believed Shatner and Deforest Kelley would get together), and the popularity of Spock/Bones, which I think became more popular recently after their platonic scenes in Beyond. Two) there are plenty of people who don’t like Christmas stories. Last year someone who read several of my stories basically said she hates Christmas and doesn’t see the appeal of Christmas stories. Three) Over saturation of Holiday stories this time a year. Everyone wants to write one and you have to pick and choose which ones you have time to read. Four) K/S Advent run on a blog (I forget which one but there were signups for it earlier this yea)r and many people go to that blog to read K/S holiday stories rather than AO3

Just the thought of Jim paired with Bones leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Same with Spock with Bones… unsettling. I am devoted to Spirk.
I think that readers went that way based on the actor who played McCoy in the reboot series. To me Kirk and McCoy will always have a brotherly friendship.
I’m not much of a fan of K/S archive if that’s what you were referring to on the K/S Advent run. I hear you on people who don’t like Christmas holiday season. My husband is one them who gets grumpy about it and Christmas is my favorite holiday.

Yeah Kirk/McCoy don’t do it for me either but there are more fics on AO3 devoted to them. And just UGH on Spock/Bones.
Nope not the K/S Archive. K/S Advent is an event on Live Journal

I love the heat miser and snow miser songs. Don’t get me started on singing that…I won’t stop.
Ivan, I have visited live journal but the look of that site throws me off. Maybe I am too old but sometimes I have difficulty navigating through live journal.

It’s been years since I went into Live Journal myself, thus why I didn’t participate in K/S Advent
