Rambles for the end of March 2020

A message from a child at my condo complex

I sure would like to think and believe in this positive message.

Tomorrow, when I go into the office, it may well be the last time in quite a few weeks. My job has lost patience with waiting for laptops that seem as scarce as toilet paper and hand sanitizer and has decided that we must all bring our desktops home and work from home. So with a bit of stuff I must do in the office to make the transition smoother, I will be also disconnecting my equipment and bringing it home, all the while crossing my fingers that it all works like it’s supposed to once I get it all hooked up at home.

M’s working from home has been extended to May 31st. I have no idea how long it will be for me.

I have mixed feelings. I really don’t like the work at home thing. But on the other hand I won’t have to drive every day, which I hate, and can get up later and get home sooner. It’s better for my asthma to stay home. Don’t have to worry about what I look like etc.

But yeah. Not happy. But it is what it is. And I have a job for now so can’t complain.

I got all the Monday flashes done and scheduled for April.

I updated Our So-Called Life. Have not written a single word on the Bang story since I turned in my rough draft to prove I had written 6,000 words a week ago. And all I can say is meh. So we will see. Later this week I hope to update The Carrier if I can kick myself into doing it.

And so today is the last day of March, which turned out to be an absolutely miserable month. I once had such high hopes for it.

Good Riddance March 2020

March 23, 2020 Rambles

So, what’s going on? I’m home today as I have today and tomorrow off work. I have to go back into the office on Wednesday and Thursday as we are “exempt” from the stay at home thing and I don’t have my laptop yet. My plan for those days is to scan my files electronically so that when I do get my laptop I have the necessary files to work at home. I honestly thing this stay at home thing is going to go through at least May. We shall see.

Watched Contagion last night. I’ve seen it before, years ago, when it was out, but man, it’s so similar to what’s happening now I think it was a mistake to watch it. It’s like a horror film really.

I am almost up to the 6,000 words for the Bang story. I plan on getting it to that point today. I am at 5,000 now. Once I reach the 6,000 I will get the next chapter of The Carrier up. Boy do we all need Spirk distractions right now!

Then it’s on to Just When I Needed You Most. So we will see what I can get done.

I have asthma so I am not going to lie, I’m concerned. I feel good. No fever or anything. But I am…still a little concerned. I will stay as safe as I can be.

I hope that you will too.

Ramblings, March 10, 2020

Above is the view from my window at work today. Rainy day. Suppose to rain all day.

I think we were supposed to start up seeing a movie again this week but I think we will postpone it a bit longer. Not especially concerned about movie theaters or anything, but I’m feeling rather lazy and it’s so much easier to just go home and veg after work. Plus there’s not much out right now anyway.

Still planning on going to Morro Bay the weekend of the 21-24. It’s not a large gathering nor at an airport, besides which I think much of this thing about the virus is way over blown. People are beating each other up over toilet paper. The world is nuts. Anyway, my plan is still on unless the whole state decides to quarantine like Italy has. Plus I don’t quite qualify for the “older people” they talk about on the news and CDC sites.

Fortunately my mother stopped attending church a couple years back because she was just too frail to make the effort to get up Sunday mornings and get ready. She watches mass from the television now. She really is of the age you have to be careful. Even of the flu. She’s been in the hospital before with pneumonia.

In other news, well, I am, um, still working on the Bang story. I’m up to about 3,000 words and have to have at least 6,000 by the end of the month. And then I am supposed to have like 75% done by the middle of April or some such. So…yeah. Not sure. Either way you get a story out of me.

The next two flashes are very very short, so I apologize in advance.

Other than that, I have not much to share. Still fighting Macy’s. Ongoing. I think I did get my bank account straightened out. So that’s something. And I get a bonus this week, so that’s something too.

I’m looking forward to the weekend. I have no plans. And that is good.

Rambles 03/01/2020

Happy March

Well here we are in the third month of the year. Barely, but it counts.

Took a half day Friday and talked to Macy’s Fraud Dept. Still told it’s “in process”. In the meantime, received another bill where the thief bought sunglasses. For another $200. Filed yet another claim. I am now into 5 months dealing with this. Unbelievable. But…yeah.

Went to Drag Queen Bingo at the Elk’s Lodge last night. It’s for charity. A good time was had by all but we didn’t come anywhere close to winning a single game.

Was looking at some news report and check this out…

See that tiny apartment? It’s a bed, a toilet, sink and a shower. Don’t think it includes a kitchen. Anyway, this is London. So we aren’t the only one with too expensive places to live. $2000 per month for this. Yep.

Here’s crossing my fingers that this month will be better. I am going to Morro Bay for two days later this month, so I am greatly looking forward to that. As well as next week’s time change.

I think I have a good couple of flashes coming up this week.

Up next for AO3 if I get to it this week is Cadet Ashayam.

Still trying to get the Bang to shape up. I did finish the first chapter. That’s something. And if I am nowhere reasonable at the end of this month I will drop out. Hopefully that won’t happen.

I think that’s about it for now.

Ramblings 02/17/2020

I am not among those who have today off, alas.

Well, this has been a challenging week, to say the least.

M accidentally paid the mortgage twice. We moved into this place in like 2006 or something and in that time we have had like 5 mortgage companies, the latest being “Shellpoint”. Yeah, I hadn’t heard of them either before they took over for Green Tree, which went bankrupt.

Anyway, they had the button for February and March right next to each other and he hit both. Tried to cancel it immediately and can’t online. Called them immediately and they were already closed. Got up before light to call them the next morning, claimed they’d try to cancel it, nope they didn’t. The bank cleared it, I have no idea how because we did not have two mortgage payments in the bank. We were negative a LOT of money. Tried calling the mortgage company and they said there was nothing they would do. Too bad so sad. But at least you don’t have to pay until April.

We had to borrow the money from my sister. We were fortunate she had it to lend. But damn what a nightmare.

Oh and the Macy’s American Express people came back and said they had resolved all of my fraudulent charges and my account is now cleared. Which it isn’t. Because I received a $200 coat I did not order after they sent me this correspondence. Yep. So that is still ongoing too.

I know many of you out there are also struggling with some issues, financial or otherwise, and I offer you virtual hugs. It’s not easy.

In other news, I have discovered there is no doubt about it. I am more popular as an AOS writer than a TOS writer. I am okay with that but I have proof with my two Valentine’s stories I posted. The AOS one was way more popular.

Wednesday’s flash is a bit of a continuation from late last year. I don’t have anything else written on this particular couple after this though so it remains to be seen if we see more of them.

I officially start the Bang story this week. I have already written about 400 words but I’m counting it starting right now.

Tonight I am going to dinner at the cousin’s house for spaghetti.

And that’s about it. Have a great week, if you can.

Ramblings, February 01, 2020

I’m not a fan of February. Over the years there have been many times that something not so great has happened in this month, and so, I am relieved when most years it’s a mere 28 days. It’s fine to kiss it goodbye then.

Anyway, here we are in the leap year and we get 29 days. As you know that means Every Four Years Later will appear on the archive on that day, provided, of course, I cease to procrastinate over it.

Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday are later in the month this year too. I seem to recall Easter is like April 14th. Growing up I dreaded lent. Not because of fish on Fridays (I’ve always loved fish with a passion) but because as Catholics we were supposed to give up something important to us for 40 days. I usually gave up candy or something like that. When you are a child believe me that’s torture! ha ha

Anyway, for February you get your Wednesday and Friday flashes back. Including a few TOS choices. There’s two for Valentine’s Day too. One for TOS on the 12th and the other on the 14th for AOS.

I have written and scheduled the first flash for March so we will see where we go with that.

I survived the birthday party at the winery last night (with only a slight headache which I consider a win).

Have a good week.

Rambles, January 16, 2020

Yesterday, I posted Chapter 11 of The Space in My Bed. I hope to have the final Chapter 12 up in the near future. I’ll be so happy to have another one finished. I am super excited by that prospect. I have new ideas to post, as you know (having done some sneak peeks) and I’d rather get a few more done before I do that.

Once that is all done I will turn my attention to an update for The Vulcan Who Fell to the Earth and Orchestral Maneuvers. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves!

Tomorrow is a flash that pretty much continues from a flash we saw at the end of December. Now when they become an ongoing story I think they lose flash status but whatever. I might write more on this storyline so stay tuned.

It’s a three day weekend for me and M as both of our companies get Monday as a holiday (MLK). I am quite happy about this. Sunday night we are going to dinner with the family, so that will be nice, but I have no other concrete plans other than to sleep! This is my last official holiday until Memorial Day (M’s company gets Good Friday off).

In other news we are supposed to get rain tonight, so wish us luck with that, as we always need rain.

In the continuing saga of what a pain cats are, we got this new bed for Luna for Christmas. See it there, all fluffy and cozy? Yeah, that’s not the one she is lying in. She’s in her old stupid bed. She is AFRAID of the new one. She sneaks up on it like it will attack her. Sigh. Cats.

January 02, 2020 Rambles

A picture perfect New Year’s Day in Southern California 2020

Okay so, as you know, the 31 Days of December Flashes are over. It was really fun and I am seriously considering the same for next December.

But this brings me to what’s planned for 2020. I was going to have it be a surprise, but in all honesty I am terrible with keeping surprises, so for January Friday Flashes are back. One will premiere tomorrow.

In February I will start up with Wednesdays as well as Fridays again. I have already written and scheduled a Valentine’s flash for TOS and intend to do one for AOS also.

Now that the holidays are over I hope to get back to some neglected fics. I’ve already had someone on AO3 ask me to get back to Nine Lives, so obviously that’s on my schedule. There’s also the Vulcan Who Fell to the Earth, My Heart Wants to Sigh, Orchestral Maneuvers, My Devotion, Our So-Called Life, The Space in My Bed, and on and on.

And those are the ones I’ve already got going. There are still others in my head, like a sequel to Best Friends, the continuation of Every Four Years (it IS a leap year), etc.

Should be another crazy year.

But that brings me to some other things that need addressing.

At work there were three of us doing the job I do. My good friend who I have worked with for a number of years posted for another job, a promotion, in our department, and got it. That means there are now only two of us doing the job and it’s wicked busy. I honestly don’t know if they are going to replace her, but she certainly hasn’t been yet, so work is well…difficult right now. And I did a LOT of my writing at work. That’s not going to be as possible as it used to be. Fair warning.

Up this weekend is taking down my sister’s decorations.

I have made reservations for going to Morro Bay toward the end of March for two days so wish me luck that I actually get to go this time! I made it weeknights instead so it’s a bit cheaper.

So anyway, that’s the report for the start of 2020. Thank you for your continued support, reading, and friendship.

Rambles December 17 2019

It’s been a while since we had a rambling due to the flashes taking over the blog, but I think that’s pretty cool actually.

I decided to do one today.

This past weekend we made the trip to Buena Park and Knott’s Berry Farm. Fun fact, they call it Knott’s Scary Farm for Halloween and Knott’s Merry Farm for Christmas. It’s got the Peanuts gang, Snoopy and Woodstock etc, so it’s cute. I got myself a stuffed Woodstock with a Santa hat on it because, yes, I am a dork. We also had mulled wine and cookie shots with a bit of Baileys. Anyway, it’s a fun place and we really enjoyed it. Here’s a picture of their giant tree.

December is fully scheduled for flashes except for the last Friday which will conclude At His Side for my Fall Guys. I intended for it to be done and scheduled too but the file I sent myself was corrupted.

But if you read this carefully you will know the fun did NOT stop after the 25 Days of Christmas flashes. But I wrote one from 26-31. Well minus the December 27th one I need to finish. They aren’t song-themed, but you get flashes!

In January, I will be working to update some neglected fics. The Wednesday and Friday flashes will return in February. Bright, shiny and new.

I’m pretty much done with my shopping, but have wrapped nothing. So this Saturday I hope to amend that. I am terrible at wrapping, not gonna lie, but I have fun with it. I shall drink and be merry while I am at it. Will be fun.

We are having cool weather for us. This morning at my house, with the wind chill it felt like 27. It’s even only supposed to get to about 57 on Christmas. It’s nice for us. Since we’ve had days of 80s at Christmas!

I think that’s about it for now. I am sure I will ramble some more.
