December 12th

Today would have been my dad’s 96th birthday.

I am sure I have told this before, but when I was  a kid, I loved the Christmas song, Donde Esta Santa Claus by Augie Rios. I had the record, and in those days records were vinyl. I would come home from school and my dad would have that record on and I would get so excited. He’d put it on weeks early because I loved it so much.

Many years later, but a few years back now, I was sitting waiting in my car for the commuter bus I took at the time into work. It was December 12th. One of the local radio stations played Christmas music all day every day beginning then around Thanksgiving (they start even earlier these days). I’d listened to that station every day and never once heard Donde Esta Santa Claus on it. Until that day. My dad’s birthday.

I’ll never forget that as long as I live (or as long as I am granted my sanity). It gave me chills.

Today I own that song in digital form and I will be listening to it in honor of my dad.

Season’s Greetings

Ramblings, December 10, 2018

I have been to Disneyland, as you can see from the above pictures. Fine time was had by all. And it’s so cool getting in for free. It’s well over $100 to get in these days. We never would have gone except for the cousin working for Disney and getting us tickets so that was awesome.

Didn’t do any writing over the weekend. Busy busy. Today I am going to be working on adding stuff to my Wonderful Life fic. As you know my Christmas story had been published. I don’t remember if the Mirror Christmas story is Friday or if the Cadet Christmas story is Friday. HA. We shall see, I guess.

Then it’s back to the T’hy’la story. I think I am behind at this point though it doesn’t get posted until January, so hopefully I am okay.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Ramblings for December 06, 2018

Tonight our power will be turned off and isn’t supposed to come back on until about 4AM. Sigh. I guess it will definitely be dark for sleeping.

Looks like Disneyland on Sunday is happening as we have scheduled the time for leaving and everything. I suppose I will still be skeptical until I walk through the gate! HA.

Tomorrow will be another Flash Fic Friday. So you have that to look forward to.

You all know I finished Where My Demons Hide. It’s a relief to have it over. That leaves me with only 11 current WIPs. I say “only” because I have had at one time or another more than 15.

My plan right now is not to post any more WIPs. If I have something finished, like the Christmas story, I will post it, but once those WIPs are completed, I won’t be posting any more. It’s very possible I won’t be writing any more fan fics at all once those are done. I think I’m getting close to saying all I have to say about Kirk and Spock. I am definitely repeating stories and ideas.

That may or may not be what you want to hear, but that’s where I am coming from.

The thing is I do have other ideas, like the one that goes with ‘Dancing on My Own’, but I am not sure at this point that I am ever going to write it.

Writing has always been my therapy. Anyway, that’s something you can hopefully look forward to in 2019, the conclusion of those 11 stories. My strategy might change on how I work on them. It might be that I will just pick a story and write on it until its done, and then so on with each story, we shall see.

December has begun its busy busy business. I have something planned for every weekend this month and many things during the week. Hopefully I will maintain my sanity as well as my physical health.

I’m tweaking one story for the Flash that I think needs more added and I am also working on the T’hy’la story. That’s it for this year, I think. Too busy and overwhelmed for much of anything else. I’d like to enjoy my holidays. I still have several movies to watch too.

You’ll notice I am using the free photos from WordPress for my blog lately, lol. Too lazy to upload new ones of my own, etc.

I’m not very enthusiastic today. I fully admit. I have no explanation for my attitude but it is there.

That Glorious Song of Old is ready to post any time I feel like posting it.  I feel like it is a bit early, unless I do spread out the posting of it. Part of me would like to do that because I tend to build up more of a readership if I don’t post it all at once.  What does everyone think? Should I post the prologue by itself and then follow with the first chapter a few days later?”

Decorated the sister’s house yesterday. She decided to go “Christmas Light” so not as many decorations went up. She paid us though so that was very cool.

Had a couple of Baileys and coffees while I was there but they didn’t settle well with me and it gave me a stomachache later.

My Devotion is next in updating but since I am working on the T’hy’la story it has to be on hold for the time being.

It’s cold here at work today so I am having to wear my coat in the office. It’s supposed to rain here on Wednesday and Thursday. Our electric company, Edison, has decided to shut our power off Thursday night overnight to work on some equipment in the area. It’s supposed to go off at 9 and not come back on until 4AM Friday morning, so swell.

Milo’s cousin who supposedly works for Disney is supposed to be getting us in this coming Sunday to Disneyland. We are skeptical because she tends to make up stories. We shall see if it happens! HA.

I have finished every last bit of Christmas shopping and even did a lot of wrapping this past weekend. I got a few things watched too, so it’s been nice. The nicest part is not being sick this year! I am very much hoping it stays that way. Last year I was so sick I ended up having seizures. I also broke a bottle and gave my hand a very nasty cut. It’s a scar now. For months afterward the scar tissue hurt, but surprisingly, it doesn’t anymore. So far, everything has been better this year, so I am crossing my fingers and toes.

Some Hope

Yesterday was Giving Tuesday. I’ve spent so much money lately, I felt like I had to do something. My employer had a giving campaign where they would match your donation, but it had to be one of the “approved charities”. I wanted to give to the LA Mission in Skidrow who feed the homeless and the Ventura County Rescue Mission in my county who do the same. So I donated a dollar each pay period for the next year to each one of them. It’s not a lot but it’s something.

Then I got an email from Amazon saying you could use Alexa (Echo) to donate to Toys for Tots and Amazon would match that donation. So I donated a toy and a recording of Dax Shepard told me I basically donated two toys since Amazon matched. Thank you, Dax.

Anyway, I tell you this not to brag or anything but to bring up a news article I saw this morning that made yours truly cry like a blubbering fool.

So Cal Businessman Donates

Check it out. It’s short.

I have no clue what political party this man belongs to and I don’t care. He’s a fucking fantastic human being. He didn’t have to do this, but he wanted to do something. And God, those people need it.

There is still good out there. And that gives me hope. If only a little

Sunday Ramblings, 11/25/2018

Last night I went with the family to a Christmas Lights Display at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library that happens to be in our city. Above are some pictures from the displays. It cost about $17 to get in for this and I thought, that while nice, it was overpriced for how many lights they had.

My week off is over and it’s back to work tomorrow. Had a much better Thanksgiving this year than last and so far (knock on wood) I am not sick.

Decorated our place for Christmas this year all day Friday. I do mean all day. Next weekend we do the family’s house.

I’ve written a few more flash fics to get ahead on them. I’m working on a Christmasy one now that I expect to finish today and that will get me ahead through December 14th if I get it done. Yay!

Unfortunately, I have not finished my Christmas fic but am determined to do so this week. I don’t know when I will post it, but it will be ready when I do.

I did start a new One-Shot Part 6 on AO3 for those who didn’t get the notice. There are still issues with it.

I updated The Experiment and Hello Darkness, My Old Friend this week. Since I am skipping The Sight for now, next up is Nine Lives. But I’d like to wait for the Christmas story to be finished first. I am ignoring the T’hy’la bang story for now but I will be getting to that again very soon.

The damn wind is back again today. We’ve had chilly mornings though. There’s a chance of rain on Wednesday and Thursday, so we shall see. The other day it did rain overnight.

I started my Christmas movie viewing on Thanksgiving with Miracle on the 34th Street. I also have started to listen to Christmas music. Funny story. I wanted the song, Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helms added to my Amazon Music Christmas Playlist on Prime. Somehow when I added it, it added three greatest hits albums by him to my Music. I had like 68 songs. I was like WTF. It was a total pain getting them back off, let me tell you!

Anyway, that is it for now. Have a great week.

Thanksgiving 2018

thanksgiv-dayToday is Thanksgiving. This day is wrapped up in so many memories, most of them good, though not all.

My dad had a massive stroke in  1991 the day before Thanksgiving. We spent most of that holiday season visiting him in the hospital. He didn’t even make it to the next Thanksgiving, having died that next July.

I remember one year there were many areas on fire on Thanksgiving because we had terrible winds. That Thanksgiving night watching all the news coverage, it was horrible. You’d think you’d get used to it, but you don’t. When I was in high school we had terrible fires around Halloween.

Last year’s Thanksgiving. I was sick for three months, not going to lie. It was bad. I could not get rid of it and I had this terrible whooping sounding cough. We went to a restaurant for our meal instead of M making it and as we were walking into the restaurant, M fell. Didn’t get hurt, but, well, you know. The food wasn’t that great and I was just miserably sick. And it was about 95 degrees out.

This year, it’s supposed to be 66. Big difference. We are having it at our home, homemade by my own personal chef (ha), and I am not sick.

Here is what I am grateful for:

My health, M’s Health, my family, my mother around for another Thanksgiving, my friends, my readers, my readers who have become friends, the country I live in, for all its problems is still pretty damn great, Luna, my job, because yeah, we need jobs, my healthcare insurance, the ability I have to write stories that people care about and want to read, my house, still standing.

I am sure there are other things I have forgotten. But those are the ones on my mind.

What are you thankful for?

Ramblings, November 19, 2018

As you know, I have this week off.

Did some cleaning over the weekend to get ready for TG on Thursday. I got Bitter Frost updated despite AO3 refusing to tell anyone. Funny thing was it said on their twitter that emails were delayed but hadn’t disappeared altogether. BS

I have some errands and shopping I want to do today. But I am also working on my Flash Fic for Friday. This week, other than the Flash, I want to finish the Christmas story, so I can call it done, and move on. I know how I want to end it, it just has to get there!

Wednesday I am making a pumpkin dessert for TG. If it turns out okay I will post a picture of it.

When I was young, I used to do all the Black Friday shopping thing. Well, I never got up at 5 or anything, but I would go shopping that day. These days I do most of my shopping online or on different days if I am going to, say Target (my favorite store, ha ha). I doubt that pattern will change this year. I don’t like crowded stores. We went to Costco on Saturday and it was packed with people who wanted to run you over with their damn cart.

Sunday the 25th is decorating day here at my house. One month exactly! I’m excited to have it done. I am Christmas nut, I know.

When I was a kid, long long ago, but not in a galaxy far away, we used to go to mass. Anyway, I loved going to midnight mass. These days half the churches have done away with it and only like one of every five churches have actual midnight mass, around here anyway, but when I was a kid it was a big thing and I loved it. For me, it was such quintessential Christmas. Even as I became a little older my sister and I would go when no one else would anymore. Mass would be standing room only so we’d get there early and I loved the pomp and circumstances of it all. The whole ceremonial thing.

Though I am no longer practicing any religion, I remember that part of it very fondly. There’s a saying I think rather applies to me. You can take the person out of the Catholic but you can’t take the Catholic out of the person. Yep.

Anyway, even now my favorite time is Christmas. I’m like a kid, still. I even have a Christmas playlist on my phone to listen to as soon as Thanksgiving is over.

I know some people in the Star Trek fandom get offended that people write Christmas stories about Kirk and Spock, because Shatner and Nimoy were both Jewish. I’ve even seen people complain about it. But my take is that was the actors, not the characters. Roddenberry was an atheist. Kirk and Spock did not disclose their religion, though Spock, often dismissed the idea of a deity. I don’t write TOS Christmas stories, and Quinto is not Jewish, and Pine is only part, and speaks of how he really doesn’t follow any religion, plus I think he has celebrated Christmas as a child. Anyway, it really doesn’t matter, I don’t get into too much religion, though I do reference Amanda being Jewish. My point is, it’s fiction, a fandom written about characters that don’t even exist, so if I want to write Christmas, then I am going to do so.

I hope everyone here in the US has a wonderful Thanksgiving. And everyone elsewhere, if you are out there, has a great week.

STThanks

The fire near us is now at 57% containment and that’s good news even though it burned over 504 structures. Up north, the “camp” fire destroyed an entire town. What a horrible couple of weeks it’s been for everyone here. I hope the winds leave us alone for a while, we need a break.

The weather report coming up for the next week or some promises a mild Thanksgiving holiday, which is very much welcome. As I have said I start my week off as the day ends tomorrow and I look forward to it even though I have many household chores.

My writing goal is to finish the Christmas story (still unnamed). I am writing the sex part at the moment. Once that story is finished I will feel much relief.

I saw on the news today something sad. A while back there was this big story about a “GoFundMe” account set up for a homeless man after he gave a woman his last $20 so she could get home. People donated all kinds of money. Now it turns out the whole thing was likely a scam to get people’s money. What kind of horrible people take advantage of warm-hearted generous people like that to steal their money and good will? These people need to go to jail and I hope they do. The moral? I say, sadly, don’t give money to any of these things, unless YOU personally know their circumstances.
