This is an AU where Spock joins Jim in his San Francisco high school (in this little flash, Jim lives with his mom there, rather than in Riverside, though I don’t explicitly state any of this). Just a little extra something.

βYou go ask him.β
βAre you crazy? Iβm not doing it.β
Heavy sigh.
βCome on, Jimmy. Youβre the only one he kind of likes.β
Jim eyed the kid whoβd said that. Sandy was his name. Short for Alexander.
βOh, that guarantees my success,β Jim replied, sarcastically. βIβll start with that. βoh, hey, new guy, since you almost like me, at least more than any of the rest, could youβ¦β
βJust do it, Kirk.β It was always the girls who thought they were tough. And it was one of them that had just shoved him toward the new guy.
Jim stuck his hands in his pockets, gave one last derisive look to his so-called friends, and sauntered up to the picnic table where the new guy sat, nose in a book. A paper one.
He cleared his throat but that got him nothing.
Jim scowled in his friends direction when he heard the snicker. He sat down then across from the guy.
βSoβ¦Vulcan, huh?β
Great opening line there, Jimmy. No wonder heβs still ignoring you.
βYouβre the new guy.β
Very slowly dark eyes rose up to stare at him. They made Jim shiver.
βI know who I am,β he said. βWho are you?β
So much for the theory he kind of liked Jim if he didnβt even know his name.
βJim. Uh. Kirk.β
βIs it Jim or is it Kirk?β
βBoth. Jim Kirk. Like you know, a last name. Whatβs yours?β
βSpock.β
βSpock what? Or, um, what Spock?β
βJust Spock.β
Jim nodded. βLike um, Cher or Charo. Like that.β
βI have no idea who they are.β
Jim laughed a little. βI donβt know them either.β
βThen why mention them?β
βTheyβre from, you know, like the past. Long past I just thoughtβ¦well that compared to Spock. Just Spock.β
Spock stared at him.
Jim shifted. βUm, so, want to join the Glee Club?β
βThe what?β
βGlee Club. We sing. Weβre about to do a holiday concert.β
βHoliday.β
βUh-huh. Weβre planning on singing Hark the Herald for one.β
βI am not familiar with that.β
βOh come on. Youβve got to know that. Itβs famous. Also gonna sing Santa Claus is Coming to Town.β
βGoing to.β
Jim nodded.
Spock put his book down. βWhat I mean is, you are not speaking properly. Itβs βgoing to sing Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Not gonna.β
Jim scowled. βI know proper grammar, dude.β
βIt is most curious then as to why you do not use it.β
βAre you going to join the Club or not?β
Spock leaned back. βWhat else are you going to sing?β
βCouple other Christmas songs. And some for Hanukkah. The usual stuff you sing at these kinds of concerts. You get extra credit if you join. Donβt worry if you sing like a frog. So does Ralph and heβs still a member.β
βI do not sing like a frog.β
Jim shrugs. βI didnβt mean anything by it. Well? What do you say?β
Spock didnβt respond at first. He finally said, βAnd you are in this Glee Club?β
He smiled. βYep. Glee Club President.β
βWhat does a Glee Club president do?β
βAsk others to join,β Jim joked. βWell, whaddya say?β
βSince you clearly need help with your education, Jim Kirk, I will assist you with your club.β
Jim held up his hand for a high five. Spock stared at his hand.
βYouβre supposed to hit me.β
βWhy would I strike you?β
βNot me, dummy. My hand.β
βIsnβt it part of you?β
βNow see. I think, maybe, we can help each other out, Spock. You can teach me to speak proper grammar and I can teach you how to be a real person on Earth.β
βA real person.β
βYep. Youβre here going to school right now cause your popβs the ambassador dude, right?β
Spock gave him a look. βI suppose the answer is affirmative.β
Jim grinned. βAll right then, Spock. Stick we with me. Itβs gonna be great.β
Jim turned around and gave the thumbs up to his friends.
βWhat is the meaning of that gesture? Is it obscene?β
He laughed. βNah. Thatβs this one.β Jim showed him. βBut never mind. Come on. Itβs time for Jim Kirk Course One.β
βWhen do we rehearse the songs?β
Jim liked that Spock got up from the picnic table and followed him.
βTomorrow afternoon. But today, youβre just going to hang out with me and benefit from the experience.β
That earned him an eyebrow raise, but Jim slung an arm around Spockβs shoulders and led him away from his group of friends. Jim wanted Spock to himself.
βNow, the song goes, Hark the Herald Angels Singβ¦β

Oh so cute. I love the dichotomy between them. The clear oppositeness. And yet thereβs a connection. Fantastic!

This is positively wild! I have a million thoughts. But mostly, what a surprise. You scared me.
I woke up thinking, it’s Thursday, no new CIJ today.
And then there was one.
You gotta warn me, dude. Senility runs in the family, and I’m kind of like Fred Foxx was about heart attacks – is this the BIG one???? I lost a day. It’s Friday. Ok – I need to make new plans.
You forget who this reader is!
Then I saw 6.5. And I checked my computer that CLEARLY said it’s Thursday.
So I thought – uh oh. It’s IVAN who’s clearly lost it. But how do I break it to you gently?
And then I drank some coffee and realized neither of us is losing it. Or at least, THIS isn’t the proof anyway.
So…..thank you. I’ll just leave it with a thank you. And the knowledge this Jim and Spock so much remind me of cartoons of young, HS age Jim and Spock – I saw those images all the way through it, especially when Jim threw his arm around Spock. I mean, how much surprise can this Vulcan process in one day???
(Wonder if he could bring his lyre in to accompany? Or even…learn the banjo????)
LOL

What’s truly amazing is that I re-read this thirty million times and only just caught that I wrote they were seeking Hark the Herald instead of “singing”.
I really HAVE lost it. I know those cartoon/comics you speak of and I am flattered you are reminded of them here. Ha I thought I’d throw you all off with an extra and I see it worked π
I “might” revisit these two cuties in the real Christmas stuff in December.
HA I just caught the “banjo”

“All those in favor, say aye!”
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!”
Motion passes unanimously. (I’m totally positive I heard everyone’s voice.)
OR
I can do it the way our University choir president, who was music director at a local Baptist church, would say any time we had a vote:
“All those in favor say Aye.”
“Aye.”
“All those opposed, and of course there are none!” πππ
He was a hoot. Spock wouldn’t get any of his humor. And yeah, you’d be surprised he wasn’t really kidding!
