Spock had no experience dating Humans.
He had no experience dating Vulcans either, for that matter. But as far as he knew Vulcans did not expect or desire to be courted in the way Humans seemed to wish.
The concept of going to dinner and/or a movie was an odd consideration to him.
Of course, in practical matters, Vulcan children were bonded to other Vulcan children at a young age in anticipation of one day fully forming the marriage bond.
That was for average Vulcan children. Admittedly average Vulcans were considered superior to others, including himself, who had the distinction of being only half Vulcan. The other half being Human, but that led Spock back to his original thought. Being half Human did not give him any particular knowledge when dealing with attractive Humans one wished to pursue.
Due to his lineage, in that he was fortunate, Spock’s mother, the Human one, had declared her son would get to choose his own mate, and therefore no betrothal bond had ever been established between Spock and another. That had been one of the only arguments between his parents, Amanda Grayson had won.
That left Spock with his current dilemma.
How to pursue James Kirk.
He’d made a terrible impression. Social graces was not his forte, truly, and he had been startled by the unexpected confrontation with Kirk…Jim…when he’d approached. Spock had not been prepared and had, as Jim pointed out, been rude.
Spock simply could not deny he found Jim quite attractive.
He’d thought about discussing the matter with his friend, Nyota, but she was rather judgmental for the most part, and Spock really did not wish to deal with that sort of behavior from her just yet. Any advise she would have given him was not that important, he decided.
Spock had considered contacting his mother for her advice. She was, after all, quite Human herself. But she would no doubt react with more enthusiasm than the current situation indicated, owing to his bad impression on Jim, and he was not prepared to disappoint her should that bad impression not become resolved.
Because he hadn’t been smart enough to get Jim’s contact information when they’d gone for coffee, Spock had been forced to do some research into which dorm was his. Therefore, he now stood outside Jim’s dorm hoping he did not come off as a stalker.
He almost turned away and left but at the last second, he took a deep breath, and knocked on the door.
The door opened only seconds later, and Jim stood there, staring in surprise at him.
Jim was wearing glasses which reminded him teenaged Jim Kirk had worn glasses most of the time. Somehow it made the blue irises appear even more striking.
“It occurred to me that I did not obtain your contact information to further our acquaintance,” Spock said after allowing himself ample time to takin in Jim’s attractiveness.
“Uh. Okay. Want to come in?”
Spock nodded. “Yes.”
He stepped inside the dorm room and was relieved to see that Jim was the only occupant. He had no right to be jealous if there had been someone else with him, but he had only just considered that was possible.
“Would you like to have dinner with me?”
Jim smiled then. Slightly, but it was a smile.
“Now?”
Jim was dressed rather casually. Pajama bottoms, Spock thought. And a tank top. On the coffee table next to a sofa was a container of ice cream.
“Am I interrupting?”
“Just an evening with myself. I don’t really feel up to going somewhere, but perhaps you’d want to stay to hang out or something?”
Spock quickly agreed. “Yes. Yes I would.”
“I can make a pot of coffee.”
And Spock was in and feeling, perhaps, just a bit more positive.

No seriously. I can’t love awkward Spock any more than I do. You bring it to life and hes adorable and I just love him.
And I am loving this fic so dang much. I actually get that jolt of excitement every new chapter. Yay!

“Spock simply could not deny he found Jim quite attractive.”
Who doesn’t? Even totally sightless from birth people find him attractive. He oozes it.
Yeah well, don’t forget we’re all RIGHT HERE IN LINE behind you, so don’t screw this up. We’ll all kalifee for the right to take your place!
Where do you find these pics? I don’t recall ever seeing that one. On the other hand, the way my brain has been going the past days, I could have put it in one of my fics and not remember. Sigh…..
Nyota. You got that right. TOS Uhura too moony. AOS Nyota too judgmental. For a Vulcan to be with, I mean. Klingons would make her queen of Q’onoS and their entire empire and beg for more. If JJ was gonna put Spock with a girl, Uhura STILL isn’t the one. I mean, look who he was drawn to. That work of art super skinny girl. More lame than judgmental. At least she had the good sense to be drawn to, instead of the usual captain, “the one with those exquisite ears” I think she put it.
I mean, Nyota’s character was set up in the first movie with her scene with Jim, and set in concrete with “NO, I’M ON THE ENTERPRISE” and Spock immediately acquiescing to her. Which just as immediately for me, uh, that’s a HUGE NO on that fake relationship. I can only buy Nyota as Spock’s failed desperate attempt to talk himself out of his true self. Jim shot that to smithereens.
And trust us Spock, it’s not only “her advice” that is unimportant in your life. (But I’m not bitter. For almost 12 years and counting. No, really.)
Great chap. And as always, can’t wait for more. I mean, practically literally. But then I feel that exact way with all your WIPs. And the weirder my brain gets, the more impatient I grow. On the other hand, real alzheimer’s makes you forget there even IS a WIP so you’re not remembering to be impatient. So….win/win. Or lose/lose. I can’t decide.

HA HA yes, certainly to Uhura.
And ugh that episode the Cloudminders or whatever its called. I hate that episode. It’s on my list of episodes I will never ever watch again. Ever.
As for this story, indeed who could help but be attracted to Jim. I’ve had that picture for years, I believe. And I think I have used it before though its been a while

In Spock’s defense, it wasn’t Spock who called her a work of art. It was her father – who introduced her as such. And from there she said she’d never met a Vulcan and Spock said, Nor I a work of art. And (imo) he STILL hadn’t met one, but that’s just me. But I’ve seen the memes that insinuate that Spock called her a work of art, that it was HIS opinion of her. And that’s easily disproven seeing the line in context with the rest of the dialogue.

that skinny skanky actress (sorry but she was among the ugliest in my opinion on the show lol) always rubbed me the wrong way anyway, so I am glad I don’t see any memes calling her a work of art, yuck. Seriously top least favorite episodes after Children Shall Lead

Can I just say that you pointed out the exact two scenes that absolutely killed every maybe like I could’ve had for Uhura in the movies. I STILL don’t get what the heck was so bad about the first meeting between Uhura and Jim in the bar. So her reaction in my eyes was so way over the top. And don’t let me start on her demand to be put in the Enterprise and Spock immediately giving in. WTAF?
Anyway, I just had this happy moment that I’m not the only one seeing it this way ;).

OH yeah, absolutely. Like Nyota had never been hit on before? Jim didn’t do ANYTHING out of line to her, and she stood back and let cupcake and the others half beat Jim to death for NOTHING except mildly flirting with her. She patronizingly stood back and said that’s enough, with the feeling of a wet noodle. If not for Pike, they might seriously have killed Jim. So yeah, they show her prissing and bouncing into the bar, ponytail swinging, like ok, everybody, I’m here, your (mean girl) has arrived, worship me! And yeah, that was so out of character of Spock to change her assignment. But FIRST it was extremely out of character for Spock to say “It was an attempt to avoid the appearance of favoritism.” Why th was Spock showing favoritism to a student in the first place, that he had to avoid anyone finding out? Spock, who EVERYONE said constantly knew and followed the regulations. So yeah, they bent themselves like a pretzel to put Nyota and Spock together as a couple in that movie. Especially since in the very first TOS episode Uhura came onto Spock and he firmly put her in her place, showing no interest whatsoever, and a few seconds later she was mocking him, saying Jim was the closest thing Spock had to a friend. In other words, Jim WASN’T really Spock’s friend, and neither was she.
Sure they were friends in the movies, as all the bridge crew were, after years and years of service together.
But Spock never showed the slightest interest in Uhura. And only broke regulations for JIM.

To be fair, with regard to TOS Uhura, that was HER opinion on Kirk being as close to a friend as Spock had (so therefore they weren’t friends). There are many things we aren’t privy to about the life of those we work for so that is HER opinion.

Well we are made to think merely offering to buy a woman a drink is harassing her to the point her big tough fellow cadets think they should get to just pummel the poor guy to death. It’s an extremely irritating scene, in my opinion, egged on by her nasty attitude about Jim daring to hit on her. All of those cadets should have been dismissed.
And yes, I hate that scene where she stomps up like some entitled B and demands Spock transfer her to the Enterprise and he just agrees. If they wanted her on there, she should have been on there in the first place instead of inventing some ridiculous conflict that made Spock look like a weenie

And as you know, I think those cadets should have been thrown in prison for attempted murder. Definitely NOT going into starfleet. And to think JIM was brought up for reprogramming the KM. But THEY can beat a man practically to death and it’s just…oh, go get in the car!

I’m glad Spock went to Jim’s dorm to ask for his contact info and then asked him to dinner.
I hope they have a nice evening hanging out 🙂

Love stalker Spock! Jim, being straightforward and saying that he didn’t want to go out just now, ,but inviting Spock in… speaks volumes! Volumes of potential love poems between them.
I need to see the rest of this pronto! Lol!
Hope your weekend was good and your week is going well.

Anyhoo, we are getting a bit off topic here for this story as Uhura plays a very minor role (because I don’t want her to be a major one LOL). None of the things that happened in the movies happen in this story. Jim’s a pretty good egg 🙂 ❤
