One of my original October Halloween Shorts

On the Edge which was first published October 18, 2016
I know Vampires are not everyone’s cuppa…but here it is.
Jim stood in front of the mirror trying to figure out if he looked just right. He straightened out the cape that he had fastened around his neck.
βWhat are you supposed to be again?β
Jim eyed his roommate, Leonard, dispassionately. βIsnβt it obvious? A vampire.β His hair was greased back and heβd added a white stripe down the middle to look distinguished. And a bit of white makeup to his face to look pale and undead-like.
βOh. For a minute I thought maybe you were going as a skunk.β
Jim whipped around, because thatβs what you did when you wore a cape. βA skunk?β
Leonard smirked. βI think itβs the white stripe.β
βSkunks donβt wear capes, brainless.β
βWell as long as we know the distinction.β
βShould I add blood around my mouth or something do you think?β
Leonard folded his arms across his chest. βWhat for?β
βTo look like Iβve been drinking blood.β
βDonβt you want to be all thirsty for his blood?β
Jim squished up his face. βGood point.β
βI have them occasionally,β Leonard said dryly.
βSure you donβt want to come?β
βPositive. Iβm going to watch some TV and go to bed early.β
βBoring,β Jim pronounced. βWhere are my teeth?β
Leonard handed him plastic teeth.
βThink I should have splurged on the more expensive kind?β
βThose work just fine.β
Jim nodded. βOkay good. I donβt know when or if Iβll be home tonight.β
βI know. Enjoy. But be careful. Watch your drinks.β
βI will,β Jim promised.
He left their apartment and made his way down the dark streets to where he was supposed to meet his date for the night. Jim thought it was kind of weird to meet in a wooded area but he guessed that was supposed to be all part of the ambiance of Halloween or something. And Jim could handle himself so he wasnβt worried about that. Heβd taken martial arts.
When he first arrived at the rendezvous point, he was alone so he checked his watch and saw that he was about five minutes early. Standing there he heard the hoot of an owl and he could swear a bat flew overheard.
βAtmospheric,β he muttered. He took the plastic teeth out of his pants pocket and stuck them in his mouth. They tasted nasty and made extra saliva form in his mouth. Didnβt really fit right either. Ugh. He pulled them back out. He did not want to wear them all damn night. βGod, these teeth suck.β
βI thought their purpose was to bite.β
Jim turned around so fast it was no wonder he was still standing. A man stood in the darkness of the trees. Tall and dark. He wore dark robes too. In the moonlight all he could make out from where the man stood was his pale face.
βJesus, you scared the crap out of me.β Jim put his hand on his chest.
βIn the spirit of the occasion perhaps.β
The man stepped closer so that Jim could make out his features. He was gorgeous, really. But his hair was cut in a weird bowl cut and he had pointed ears.
βWho are you?β Jim demanded.
βMy name is Spock. Why are you here?β
βIβm supposed to meet someone.β
βThen you have succeeded. You have met me.β
Jim laughed a little. βNo. I mean someone specific. His nameβs Gary.β He glanced at his watch. βHe should be here.β
βI know of who you mean. He is not coming.β
βHeβs not? How do you know?β
βI saw him,β the man said. βHe is not meeting you, James.β
βDamn it. Stood up? Wait, howβd you know my name?β
βIt is of no consequence.β
Jim frowned. Took in the manβs appearance. βWhat are you supposed to be anyway? A monk? The weird hair and robes go with that, but whatβs with the ears? Are you an elf? Are you dressed like someone from the Lord of the Rings?β
Spock inclined his head. βSomething like that.β
βWell.β Jim was suddenly very cold and he pulled the flimsy vampire cape around him. βI guess I should leave if Garyβs not coming.β
βYou could come with me.β
βWith you? I donβt even know you.β
Spock arched one of his perfectly groomed eyebrows. βWe can change that quickly enough.β He stepped closer to Jim until he was standing in his personal space. He looked very intently at Jim. βYou want to come with me, James.β
Jim stared into his dark eyes. βYes.β
Spockβs hand came up to frame Jimβs jaw. Jim should pull away. He knew he should and yet, he swayed into Spock, closer, pushing against him. He opened his mouth to say something but instead it was like an invitation for Spockβs head dipped and took possession of Jimβs mouth. Spockβs thumb stroked the corner, forcing his mouth open wider for Spockβs tongue to push inside.
Jim felt dizzy, like perhaps he would faint, so he dropped the plastic teeth he still held and found himself clutching Spockβs shoulders. Spock lifted him off the ground like he weighed nothing and he was pushed against the trunk of a tree as Spock deepened the kiss. Jim couldnβt breathe and hardly even cared.
The kissing could have lasted seconds, minutes, hours. Jim didnβt know. But all of a sudden Spock released him and he stood on solid ground again and surprisingly far away from any of the trees. He blinked, confused.
βCome with me,β Spock said, softly, but with authority.
βI should-I should. Where was I going?β
Spock held out his hand, palm up. βCome with me.β
Jim stared at his hand and then reached out and placed his in Spockβs, who then closed his fingers around Jimβs. βWhere are we going?β
Spock began to walk, pulling Jim with him. βTo my lair.β
βYour what?β
βMy home.β
βI could swear you said lair.β Jim laughed nervously.
Behind him, Jim heard a low pain filled moan.
βWhat was that?β he asked.
βThe riff-raff,β Spock replied, tugging Jim along. βPay it no mind.β
βBut it sounds like maybe someoneβs hurt.β
βIt is no concern of yours, James.β
Jim tried to look behind him at the group of trees he recently stood among but he could see nothing and Spock pulled him along, quickly. Why was he going with Spock again?
Spock stopped suddenly.
Jim looked ahead to see a large home shrouded in darkness. It looked more like a castle. Kind of spooky. He didn’t even think the city had such a place.
βWe are not in the city.β
βWhere are we?β
βMy lair.β
Jim frowned as Spock turned to him and once more framed Jimβs jaw with his big, strong hand.
βIt is all right, James. You need not fear. I will take care of you.β
Spockβs lips trailed to Jimβs neck, over the pulse of his throat. As he closed his eyes, he wondered why Spockβs teeth felt so sharp.

Oh yeah, I remember this one and the vice versa one. Perfect for the season.
Ah, well. If you gotta be kept by a vampire, Spock would be my choice too.

Very fitting for the season :). It’s been gloomy all day over here. Poor Gary, I figure he’s doing the moaning. I like vampire Spock and I have to agree with j, he’s definitely the vampire you want to be kept by if you have to.

Yep Gary is definitely the riff-raff Spock refers to lol

I love your orange moon with the kitty. Sets the mood perfectly.
Spock is definitely the kind of vampire you want to be with. As Spock says to Jim, βIt is all right, James. You need not fear. I will take care of you.β
My mind is conjuring up an image of Spock in a cape as in the TOS episode βReturn of the Archonsβ. Very sexy!β
