Jim got out of the shower, dressed, and joined Spock in the kitchen.

Spock looked a little…stressed. It’s not like he appeared like a Human would when stressed, but there was definitely something off about Spock that hadn’t been the case when he came home and they’d made out.

“Hey, are you all right?” Jim asked as he went into the fridge to get some iced tea.

Spock, who stood at the stove, working on stir-frying vegetables, nodded. “I received a message from my father, but I am fine.”

After pouring himself a glass, Jim leaned against the counter to watch Spock.

“And? Something bad?”

Jim hadn’t had a lot of exposure to Sarek while he and his aunt, Gilda, had been on Vulcan. He’d met and interacted with Amanda quite a number of times and found her quite warm and personable, despite as Gilda had said to him,  ‘being trapped in a nightmare of her own choosing’. Jim adored his aunt, truly, but her experiences on Vulcan, teaching non-Vulcan children there, had made her firmly dislike the ‘Vulcan Bureaucrats’ as she also quoted to Jim.

She had disdainfully informed Jim that Spock’s father, Ambassador Sarek, was one of those detestable Bureaucrats. Ultimately the fact the Vulcan authorities stuck their noses into everything, again according to Gilda, was what made Gilda return to Earth, ultimately abandoning her impressionable students to their fate on Vulcan (again more according to his aunt then Jim).

Jim had returned to Earth with her, of course, but not before vowing that he and Spock would one day be reunited.

As they now were.

Spock shook his head and tossed in nuts with the vegetables. “A small matter which I will deal with at another time. Though I have long been an adult and responsible for my own life, he prefers to dictate what he thinks I should do.”

Jim laughed softly. “Welcome to my life. Mom does the same. She about croaked over when I told her Pike convinced me to enlist in the Academy. She informed me she knew him and intended to give him a piece of her mind.”

Spock glanced at him. “And did she?”

He shrugged. “Don’t know. She never said for sure if she did or not and I have yet to see him since I got here. What does your dad expect you to do?”

“Something I have long fought with him over. Do not worry over it. It is merely an irritation I must deal with. Like swatting a gnat.”

Jim smiled and moved in to give him a quick peck on the lips. “That smells amazing. Can I add shrimp to mine?”

“Of course. I already took some out of the freezer.”

“You know me so well.”

There was a loud crack of thunder followed by a flash of lightning. Jim stepped out of the kitchen then and went to the sliding glass door to the patio.

“Going to be a dark and stormy night. It’s starting to rain.”

“Good thing we are staying in.”

“Yep. And you know what’s great about weather like this?”

“What?” Spock wondered.

“Sex.”

Spock shook his head. “Sex is great no matter the weather.” He paused. “At least with you.”

Jim returned to the kitchen and Spock’s arms. “Right back at you.”

Another installment of I Knew You Before

The apartment was quiet when Spock arrived but Jim had messaged him that he intended to take a nap, so after putting his book bag down, Spock headed for the bedroom and to Jim.

Prior to seeing Jim in the teashop on Vulcan, Spock had not believed in fated mates. It was a concept that was quite literally…alien to him.

Then he spotted the most beautifully gorgeous Human he had ever seen and had been so drawn to him that he had boldly approached that Human and asked to sleep with him.

Well, perhaps not exactly asked. Though had Jim reacted badly, Spock would have accepted the rejection.

Fortunately, Jim had been delighted. And confessed to Spock he felt the same pull that Spock had.

Spock sat upon the bed, gently stroking Jim’s hair away from his forehead. A moment later, Jim’s lashes lifted to reveal cerulean blue.

“Hey.” Jim smiled and ran his tongue over his lips. “You’re home.”

“I am. Just a few minutes ago. You are rested?”

“Yeah. Didn’t realize how tired I was until I got in bed. It’s all a bit of an adjustment for me.”

“Are you hungry?”

“Mm. Yeah. I didn’t bother getting lunch.”

“Then I will fix something.”

He made to move but Jim grabbed his arm and then his hand to keep him there. “Later. Right now, I would love a proper hello.”

“How can I resist?”

It ended up being an hour later before they finally got themselves up after vigorous lovemaking (I might actually write that scene for the time it is posted on AO3), and then, while Jim took a shower, Spock, after cleaning himself up, headed to the kitchen to make them dinner.

He had not anticipated this particular reunion with Jim, though he had intended to have one eventually, but he could not deny he was well pleased with the turn of events.

They belonged together, his T’hy’la and him, and that it happened sooner than even he planned was so much the better.

His PADD beeped so he went to fetch it from his book bag. There was a message from his father seeking an audience regarding…

Your Bond With T’Pring

Flash Fic, September 09, 2022

“What is your interest in Kirk?” Nyota asked Spock the moment he saw her again.

In truth he was rather taken aback by her…forcefulness. She had approached him as he obtained a to-go cup of tea from the science lab’s replicator.

He turned it back on her. “What is your interest in my interest?’

She blinked. “I want to warn you about him. He’s good looking. I won’t deny that but Spock…he’s a…”

He arched a brow. “A what, Nyota?”

“A player.”

Spock shook his head. “No.”

“Spock, at that bar he was hitting on me. Coming on pretty strong.”

Spock looked away, took a sip of tea.

“What?” she demanded.

“I learned from Jim about that night. He offered to buy you a drink and you refused, as was your right, then the other cadets approached, acted inappropriately, and tried to engage him in combat. He attempted to deflect but they persisted and attacked him unprovoked.”

She frowned. “Is that the story he told you?”

“No, Nyota.”

“I do not understand. Spock, maybe that’s what he told you but—”

“I learned that information from a meld. It is accurate.” Spock stared at her. “As for Cadet Kirk, I met him on Vulcan where he spent time with his aunt who was engaged to teach Non-Vulcan resident children. I am well acquainted with him and can vouch for his integrity.”

“I…didn’t know.”

“Acknowledged. Jim is living with me at my apartment.”

“I see.” She nodded. “Okay, Spock. I’m sorry. Looks like you know what you’re doing. I’m sorry I overstepped.”

“Apology accepted, Nyota. Now, I do have class. Lunch tomorrow?”

She smiled slightly. “Sure, see you then.”

Spock knew from experience that Jim was, perhaps, a bit of a flirt and playful, but not, as Nyota had surmised, a player.

Later, his classes at last ended for the day, for Spock had chosen a significant load, he made his way home to Jim.

Flash Fic, September 07, 2022

His courses finished for the day at least, Jim was exhausted as he made his way off campus and to the apartment across the street he now shared with Spock.

Last night they’d slept together but other than share a few heated kisses, that was all they did. Jim anticipated that would change likely tonight. He had already heard from Spock that he wouldn’t be done with his own classes for some time.

Jim let himself into the apartment and got settled in to contact his mother. He’d said he would.

“Jim, it’s about time.” But there was no heat to her words and she was smiling. He could see she was seated at the dining room table in her farmhouse.

“Sorry, I meant to contact you last night but I got pretty busy.”

“You get settled into a dorm?”

“No. Actually, I’m, uh, I’m staying in Spock’s apartment. That’s where I am right now.”

“Spock?” She frowned. “Isn’t that the Vulcan who picked you up in a bar?”

Jim laughed. “Not a bar. A teashop.”

She rolled her eyes.

“Not sure they have bars there. Maybe they do because they have quite a lot of other species besides Vulcans.”

“Still. My sister said he was very forward.” She sniffed.

Jim smiled. Yeah he was.

Jim had entered the teashop with Aunt Gilda and he was examining a rooibos variety when he’d been approached by a tall, gorgeous Vulcan.

“I wish to have you in my bed.”

Well, who would turn that down?

And he didn’t turn it down for the rest of the time he was there either.

“I didn’t mind,” Jim assured her. “Anyway, it turns out he’s at the Academy too and we met up and now I’m here.”

His mother sniffed again. “When am I going to meet this forward Vulcan?”

“Soon, I promise. Anyway, I’m here and getting settled in. I’m in a really good place, Mom. You don’t need to worry.”

“I always worry. Your lips still a little bruised. Those cretins should have been charged.”

He shrugged. “Maybe. I’ll talk to you soon.”

After the call ended, Jim decided he wanted a nap, so that’s where he headed next. He had no doubt when Spock came home, he’d wake him.

Happy Labor Day if you’re in the US.

This is a continuation from Friday’s Flash

As it happened, in the morning, Jim had to go to his classes before Spock, and after a lingering kiss between them, Jim set off.

Spock used that opportunity to contact his mother.

“Spock, what a wonderful surprise.”

“I do hope I am not disturbing you.”

She waved this away. “You can never disturb me.” She smiled. “Your new semester of classes begin  today, don’t they?”

“They do. But later. I wished to inform you I have a roommate.” He paused. “A special one.”

She looked puzzled. “Who?”

“Jim. Jim is here.” He knew he did not have to give her Jim’s full name. She would know. And she had adored Jim when they met on Spock’s home world.

“That’s wonderful! Is he right there with you?”

“He has gone to class.”

“Class?” Her eyes widened. “Is he at Starfleet Academy?”

“He is. A long story which I am certain he will be happy to share with you himself. I just wished to let you know.” Spock felt suddenly rather embarrassed about his enthusiastic call to his mother. His father would be appalled at his lack of control. He straightened. “You are well?”

She smiled. “Yes. And I’m very happy for you. I know how much you meant to each other in the brief time you had together on Vulcan. I’m sure your relationship will only strengthen now.”

It was Spock who had pursued Jim when he’d seen him on Vulcan in a teashop that catered to Vulcan visitors rather than Vulcans. Spock had seen Jim go inside with a blonde woman he had suspected was Jim’s mother. It had turned out he was wrong about that, it had been his aunt, his mother’s sister.

Spock had entered the shop and told Jim they were going to spend the night together.

Once more Spock felt embarrassed, but he could not feel so bad as it had worked, and now Jim was here in San Francisco.

“I must go now to prepare for my day, Mother. We will speak again.”

“Of course. Love you!”

And she was gone from his screen.

Spock let out a long breath and turned to prepare for his day.

Flash Fic, September 02, 2022

And so we begin with Starfleet Academy. Will these same Academy Spirk boys dominate the month? We shall see. But here is our first flash of September.

Spock could hear buzzing in his ears, which admittedly was the droning voice of his friend, Nyota Uhura, speaking to him about how excited she was to attend her first day of classes the following day.

It was not his intention to be rude but as they sat at a table in the cafeteria at Starfleet Academy he had noticed the arrival of a tall, sandy-haired, blue-eyed cadet.

“Spock, did you hear what I said?”

“I apologize—”

Her eyes narrowed as she followed his gaze. “What’s your interest in Kirk?”

“You know him?”

Nyota shrugged. “I met him briefly in Riverside as we were shipping out from there. There was a bar fight.”

“Was he injured?”

“Just…I mean sure. It was like three guys to his one. Just a bunch of macho men. Why do you care?”

“I will explain later. Please excuse me.” Spock rose then and went after the cadet. “Jim!”

Jim Kirk turned at the call of his name and turned to face Spock. He smiled brightly. “Spock? Is that really you?”

Spock reached him and barely refrained from reaching out to touch him. “Yes. I had not anticipated seeing you here. I had thought on my first break from school I would seek you out.”

“Yeah, I got talked into enlisting.” Jim laughed. “I thought you were going to the Vulcan Science Academy.”

“It is a bit of a story, but I changed my mind.”

“That’s great luck for me.” His eyes were shining. “When I left Vulcan I didn’t think we’d see each other for maybe years.”

“Same. Although as I said when I decided to come to this Academy, I did anticipate visiting your city.”

Jim put his hand on Spock’s arm. “I can’t believe you’re here. I’m…” He wet his lips with his tongue. “I’m a little thrilled.”

“I cannot deny a feeling of pleasure myself. When do you being your courses?”

“Not until tomorrow. I was just trying to get a feel for the place.”

“Do you have a dorm?”

Jim shook his head. “I’m supposed to go later this afternoon to get an assignment.”

Spock hesitated for only a second. But then with a slight hitch of breath, he said, “I have an apartment across the street from the campus. It would be perfect for sharing.”

Jim’s eyes widened. “You mean it?”

“I do. We can go and inform campus housing that you will no longer need to be assigned a dorm.”

Jim nodded and just stared at Spock.

“Jim?”

“Sorry, I’m just…really glad to be here and really glad to see you.”

“I assure you, it is mutual.”

And then as turned to walk together, side by side, it seemed the most natural thing. Spock looked forward to informing his mother of his good news.

And the conclusion from Spock

Spock was both surprised and anxious to see Jim sitting on the floor in front of Spock’s apartment. He had his legs bent at the knee and his arms wrapped around them. His eyes had been closed but they opened at Spock’s approach.

“Spock, hi.”

Spock surveyed Jim for any signs of new injuries or stress, but saw none, so when Jim held up his hand for Spock to assist him up, he offered it and pulled the cadet to his feet.

“Jim, I am surprised to see you. I anticipated you would still be experiencing your evening with the Caitian sisters.”

Jim visibly swallowed. “Yeah, well. That didn’t happen.”

Spock opened the door to his apartment and Jim followed him inside.

“They changed their plans?”

“I changed our plans. Canceled.”

Spock hung up his coat. “You decided not to engage in coitus with them?”

Jim laughed at that, though it was oddly without much mirth. “Something like that. Spock, I want to talk to you.”

He inclined his head. “Very well. Shall I make us tea?”

“Okay, sure.” Jim followed Spock to the kitchen, though he remained on the edge while Spock filled a kettle with water. “How was the movie with, uh, whatshisname.”

“Finnegan,” Spock replied, helpfully.

Jim snorted. “Yeah I know his name, Spock.”

“As it happens, I saw the movie alone.”

“You did? How come?”

Spock paused as he put the loose tea in the teapot. Finally he made a decision. “I chose to cancel my plans with Mister Finnegan as well.”

Jim stared. “Mister Finnegan? Not Sean?”

Spock’s lips quirked. “Not Sean.” He turned to face Jim. “To be entirely truthful, I never had much anticipation to see the movie with him.”

“No?”

“Or anything with him. He is a rather unpleasant individual.”

Jim blinked rapidly. “Then…why?”

“The answer is not one I am particularly proud of.”

“I’m still listening.”

Spock nodded. “Allow me to finish this and then we can talk.”

Jim made an impatient sound, but agreed. This evening was beginning to be much more anxiety-inducing than Spock had originally planned. But Spock supposed he should have realized anything to do with Jim was not ordinary.

After Spock moved the pot of tea to his small dining room table, they both took their seats, and Spock poured the steeped tea into cups.

“I am likewise curious as to the cancelation of your plans. You seemed to be anticipating the engagement.”

“Yeah. Well. They were…I was never serious about them. Her. They were meant to be a distraction,” Jim admitted. He wrapped his hands around the teacup,

“A distraction?”

“Mm. Only it turned out they weren’t distracting me.”

Spock sipped his tea carefully. “What were they meant to distract you from?”

Jim smiled. “I could say you first, but I won’t. They were meant to distract me from you, Spock. Ever since we became part of the same friend group, well, I’ve been attracted to you. And the more I’ve gotten to know you, the more it’s gone beyond attraction. Sadly, though, you don’t give me the time of day, so…”

“The time of day.”

“Kind of a saying meaning you don’t even notice me.” Jim sighed. “Part of the reason I punched Finnegan’s lights out was because I was jealous that you seemed interested in him, yet there was nothing from you for me but friendship. So, that’s where I am. And pretty pathetic. But I thought if it’s Finnegan you want—”

“It is not.” Spock paused. He put his cup down. His heart rate had increased by a lot. He leaned forward. “It has never been.”

“Then why—”

“I did tell you I was not proud of the reason.”:

“Yes but—”

“My intention of my alleged pursuit of Finnegan was to make you jealous,” Spock admitted. “Therefore, my actions contributed to your punching his lights out.”

Jim burst out laughing. “Well, yes, but no. They were my actions, Spock.”

“I am no more interested in Cadet Finnegan than I am in a pesky fly. It is you I am interested in, Jim, and have always been, since the beginnings of our friendship. I withdrew from the plans with Finnegan because they did not seem to have the desired effect.”

“Oh, they did.” Jim leaned forward and kissed Spock. “I couldn’t stop thinking about you with him.”

“A most disturbing thought,” Spock murmured against Jim’s mouth.

“You said it, Professor. God, to think all this time that you…”

“And you…”

“Yeah.” Jim pulled Spock out of his chair. “I definitely need to study/”

“Study?”

“Uh-huh. Vulcan anatomy.”

Spock smiled a little. “Very well, Cadet. There will be a test later.”

Jim laughed. “I’m counting on it.”

****

Spock waited anxiously at the booth in their usual restaurant. He waited for Jim, who was supposed to meet him after his retake of the landing party simulation test with Professor Lucas.

He had no doubt that Jim was more than capable of handling himself and any potential crew members, holograms or not, but Finnegan was an unknown and clearly pushed Jim’s buttons.

Spock found it hard to concentrate on the menu, which he knew by heart anyway, when finally Jim appeared at the entrance, smiled in Christine Chapel’s direction, and then headed for Spock’s location.

As Jim slid in across from him, Spock held out his two fingers, which Jim met with an even wider smile.

“I love that by the way. I don’t know why.”

“I am gratified you do. Well?”

“Passed with flying colors. Made sure every single crew member was safe, Finnegan included, and managed to disable the alien attackers without decimating their species.” Jim grinned and picked up his menu. “Top of the class.”

“I never had any doubt you would be,” Spock replied. “And Mister Finnegan?”

“He managed to pass, barely, thanks in part to the actions of his first office who saved the day.”

Spock arched his brow. “You?”

“Who else? Anyway, that’s the end of that class and good riddance to him.”

“Indeed. I am illogically proud of you.”

“Me too. And I’m starving too.”

Spock picked up his menu, chose vegetable soup, and let himself relax. It was a good day and dare he think it…he was happy.

And that’s a wrap on September. October flashes begin Friday.

Part 2

Jim spotted Spock sitting in a booth at the café they often all frequented. It was about two blocks away from Starfleet Academy, so close to get there, but often not swarming with other cadets.

But he was not alone.

Standing next to the booth was Finnegan with his usual shit-eating grin. And though Jim had tried to wipe that same annoying grin off his face earlier that day, it was still there.

Jim stayed away because the last person he wanted to deal with in that moment was his nemesis. So he hid himself by the hostess stand, ignoring the amused looks of the hostess, Christine Chapel. He could still see them, mostly.

“Why don’t you just go down there and interrupt them?”

Jim glanced at her. “Because I’d just want to finish what I started.”

“Kicking the shit out of him?’

“Something like that. And I’d end up kicked out of the Academy. Wouldn’t that just prove everyone right?”

Christine frowned. “Who’s everyone?”

“Frank,” he muttered.

“That’s hardly everyone, Jim.”

“Well.” He shrugged. Turned his attention fully to her. “What are you doing here anyway? You’re a nurse.”

“Picking up extra hours at an easy job. I’m looking to get an apartment off campus.”

“Smart. I want one of those too. Spock has one.”

“I’ve heard. Lucky.”

Jim snorted. “It’s luck all right, in the form of fatherly connections. Something neither of us have.”

“Hmm. Finnegan’s leaving.”

“Good. Hope he trips on the way out.”

Christine laughed. “Hate the guy that much huh?”

“You have no idea.”

“I have a pretty good idea. And I think it relates to Spock.”

He gave her a dismissive look and went down the aisle to the booth where Spock sat with a pot of tea and some vegetable tart thing.

Jim slid in across from him. ‘Hey, Spock.”

“There you are. I did see you over speaking with Christine.”

“Oh.” So much for being incognito. “Was trying to avoid the asshole.”

“You are a harsh judge of Finnegan.”

“You might as well say it’s sunny outside, because yep, that’s a fact. He’s been a pain in the ass to me since day one when he tripped me in the aisle of our first class together.” Jim grimaced. “The bigger question is why a guy like you, as brilliant as you are, would give that guy the time of day.”

Spock inclined his head. “I will agree that he can be…”

“The biggest douche bag.”

“I was going to say tedious,” Spock replied with some amusement. “But he has his positive side as well.”

Jim stared at Spock incredulous. He shook his head and then smiled as a waitress appeared. “Coffee lots of it. And the biggest cheeseburger you have. With fries.”

“Is this as a result of your bad day?” Spock asked, when she had moved away from their booth.

“Yeah. I mean, none of it was my finest moment. But that first few hours of that assignment was just a disaster. I’m pretty sure if we are ever on a real landing party together one of us will die. Probably me because Finnegan will think everything’s a great big joke and shove me in front of a giant Jim eating monster or something.”

Spock arched a brow.

“I swear. Imagine being partnered with a guy who yucks it up all the time.”

“Yucks it up?”

“Yeah. Yuck-Yuck-Yuck. That’s what his laugh sounds like. The assignment is on this hostile planetary simulation. We’re to take turns being in charge of the landing party and there’s this holodeck thing that throws stuff at us. Like you know old-time army games or something. Only me and him are real, the others are holograms for the assignment, but you’re still supposed to make sure everyone survives the ordeal, including the fake people. Finnegan doesn’t take any of it seriously. When someone is captured or killed, he just laughs and says, ‘It’s all fake anyway” and I finally just had enough of his stupid attitude and decked him. While we were fighting, the rest of the crew of the landing party was decimated and Lucas threatened to fail us both.” Jim sighed. He smiled as the waitress returned with his coffee. “Thanks.”

“It does sound like a difficult situation.”

“I’m pretty sure you would have taken Finnegan out yourself. Anyway, Lucas said we could take it again tomorrow. I asked that I be given a new partner.” Jim waved his hand. “You know the rest. And seeing Pike…well, I can imagine what he thinks of me now.”

“He still greatly admires you.”

Jim laughed. “Uh-huh.”

“He does,” Spock assured him. “He does think you used poor judgement in Lucas’ exercise, though. But he is correct when stating that it is a requirement of all Starfleet officers to get along with their peers.”

“Yeah.”

“As a future captain, there will be members of your own crew that might not be your favorite people, but you must learn to accept and deal with them.”

“I know, Spock. But that asshole’s never going to be on my crew.”

“I bow to your good judgment. What are your plans for this evening?”

Jim smiled. “Got a date with a hot babe. Or a couple of them.”

“I see.”

“You remember that Caitian lovely we met a few months back? She contacted me and I guess she has a sister.”

“Indeed. How…nice for you.”

“What about you, Spock? What are your plans?”\Spock sipped his tea serenely just as Jim’s cheeseburger arrived.

“I guess you’re probably studying or something, right?”

“Not tonight. I, too, have a date.”

Jim had just taken a big bite, so he chewed and swallowed. “You…do?”

“Yes with Finnegan.”

Jim was dumbfounded and his chest hurt too. He rubbed it. Must be the cheeseburger giving him indigestion.

“Finnegan?”

“Indeed, Sean. We are going to see a movie. Just before you came he asked and I accepted.”

“Finnegan?”

“Yes, Jim. While I am aware you are not fond of him, he does have his charms.”

“He does? Mind telling me what those are?”

“Jim,” Spock said reproachfully. “I hope you enjoy your date.”

“Yeah,” Jim said mulishly. “You too.”

Flash Fic, September 24, 2021

This is a mishmosh of two ideas

“Spock? Spock, are you in here?”

Spock froze from his position under the desk in the corner of the study room.

Only an hour ago, he had come across Cadet Kirk in this very room.

“Hi.” Kirk had given him a sunny, though clearly confused smile. “Uh. I booked this room to study here for two hours.”

“I am afraid there must be some mistake,” Spock replied. “I reserved this space for a small group of science students.”

“Shoot.” Kirk had taken out his PADD and swiped his thumb across the screen with startling speed. “That’s so strange because it does say I booked it. Today.”

Spock opened his mouth to say he supposed it was possible to have his group meet elsewhere when Kirk gave him that sunny smile again.

“You know what? Forget it. I don’t really need it. I can go study in my dorm. I’ll just put my earphones on and ignore my roommate.”

“If you are certain…”

“Sure, no worries. See you later, Spock.”

During that last hour, disaster had struck at the Academy. Word had come through that there was an active maniac, as Pike had called him, roaming the campus firing his phaser and calling for Spock.

He knew the maniac. It was a student named Marius whom Spock had failed. Spock had always suspected Marius was unstable and now he knew that to be the case.

Spock hadn’t had time to evacuate so he had hunkered down here. With the door closed and locked. But somehow…

“Cadet Kirk! What are you doing? You were advised to evacuate.”

“I came for you.”

Kirk crouched down next to Spock, phaser raised protectively, as he placed himself directly in front of Spock under the desk.

“Cadet Kirk—

“Shh. We’re supposed to be quiet, Spock. We don’t want to alert him to where we are.”

Spock almost pointed out that Kirk had been the one shouting his name upon entering, but he closed his mouth. He was still startled speechless anyway that Kirk had placed himself directly in firing range should Marius make his way into the room.

Spock didn’t know how long they stayed that way. Hours, he thought. Though he was certainly rattled because his brain would not compute the time. His heart thumped in his side, not just from fear, though there was an element of that, but from the nearness of Spock’s crush.

Up until the moment Kirk had come flying in to protect him, Spock had not guessed that his feelings were in any way returned. Now he knew better.

Spock’s communicator chirped into the sudden silence and to their credit, neither one of them jumped. He saw it was Captain Pike.

“All clear, Spock. Marius has been apprehended.”

“That is good to hear, Captain.”

“Where are you?”

“Study Room 23. I advised my students who were to meet me here to evacuate instead.” Spock glanced at Kirk. “Cadet Kirk is with me.”

“Jim? What’s he doing there?”

Kirk smiled at Spock. Spock stared at him.

“Spock?”

“We have a date, Captain.”

“A date? You and Kirk?”

Spock leaned in close to capture Kirk’s lips with his, just as Kirk moved closer to him. He closed his eyes as Kirk’s warm lips slanted over his.

“Spock? Jim?”

Kirk shook his head, took the communicator from Spock and said, “Spock’s safe and sound, sir. Kirk out.” He closed it. Moved closer to Spock until he was almost in his lap, even squished as they were under the desk. “Where were we?” Spock put his hand on the back of Jim’s neck as he drew him back into a kiss. “Right here.”
