Ramblings to Send August Away

You may have noticed my lack of updates on my OMS story here better known as The Love of a Lifetime. I plan to get back to it soon but there is no denying my current mood is unmotivated.

Got off work early today at 1:00. Our department is very cool about this. We only have to work a six hour day before  major holidays but sill get paid for 8. A small and appreciated perk.

The other day at the grocery store they had a display of my favorite cereal already!

I didn’t get any though. I can’t eat the same things I usually eat these days but I may give in at some point. We will see.

I think next up to update is Nine Lives. Look for major developments in that one. After that update, I am not sure what I’m going to do.

I have an extra long weekend though I think I have plans on both Saturday and Sunday.

I’m glad to see September and will be even more so when Autumn officially starts later in the month. I love autumn. Decorations, foods, tea, holidays (Halloween and TG). I should have been born in Fall but I was not.

I’ve made no particular decisions about my internet presence.

Ramblings of the Week, August 27, 2018

This past week has been quite nice weather wise. Been in the 80s during the day and 60s at night. Considering it’s August, this is fantastic weather for us. Last year during this same time period we were in the middle of one of those most horrendous heatwaves I have ever experienced and our AC was broken. What a difference a year makes! I think it’s supposed to steam up a bit come the first week of September but for now I am absolutely loving this weather. I’ll keep you posted on my chances for September lol.

This coming weekend is Labor Day of course and I decided to take an extra day off so I have a four day weekend as I took the Tuesday after as well. I am greatly looking forward to it.

We are on the stalled season for movies so I haven’t seen any in a few weeks. Last one I saw was Mission Impossible. Most of what’s out there now we will probably wait for netflix or something. I thought we might see The Meg this week but then M volunteered to work at an event for his community garden so that’s happening instead. Next week? Who knows. You know M just turned 54 and his dad died at 55 so he says to me, I have only one year left. Yes, I wanted to choke him for that. Sigh.

Funny how his birthday is around the same time as CP. CP’s being the 26th and M’s the 27th.

Last night after we returned from a celebratory dinner, I bought two more Christmas decorations! HA.

I posted the first chapter of Hello Darkness, My Old Friend on Sunday. As you know if you’ve read it, it took a very dark turn at the end, and I am afraid that will stay that way for now. My goal is to get it done by the end of the year and take them into the fall and holiday season in the story too.

I’m in the mood for my Starfleet Academy stuff so it’s likely I will work on Idiots in Love and The Experiment this week instead of The Sight or any of the rest. I intend to finish everything eventually that I have going. I guess as long as one or two of you stick with me, that’s all that matters.

I was at Target Saturday and saw that they had these television series figures from the 60s on an end cap of the toy section. I stopped when I noticed these guys from Mirror Mirror, The Original Series (suck that Discovery and Enterprise etc, TOS still comes first despite your BS, but I digress, lol).

mirroru

My excitement at seeing them included in the figures soon subsided as I picked up the package to look at the dolls/figures. I don’t know who they were supposed to be because they certainly weren’t Shatner and Nimoy. Sorry, guys, but I think my 2 and half year old great niece could have done a better job getting them to actually look like Kirk and Spock. Ugh. Needless to say it went right back on the shelf. What a shame!

Ramblings, August 21, 2018

I’m back from San Diego. Didn’t have a chance to get anything written, which is why you don’t see the next part of The Love of a Lifetime here.

It was hot and muggy. Ugh. The good news is there were too many of us to take one car so we drove ourselves (meaning M did LOL). We left Saturday morning at 6:45ish and got to the Safari Park in Escondido around 9:30. We got in free thanks to the fact that two of our friends have memberships and they get a few perks as part of their membership. Considering it’s $54 each to get in, this was a good deal.

Since the area here is set up like a safari in Africa, it decided to be as hot there. Seriously. Ugh. We did a ton of walking and we also rode the tram that takes you to see a lot of the animals. They had a baby giraffe. We had a three year old with us, Aria, and they now have a hot air balloon that goes up for about 10-15 minutes and she just had to go on this. It cost $14 extra per person so “Uncle Ryan” paid for them all to go except for me and Aria’s mommy, because we were like…nope. They all enjoyed it but after that they closed it because it got to be too breezy.

They have  a new part there that’s supposed to be Australia but there was no shade at all while there and though it was nice to see the kangaroos I hightailed it out of there to go find a table and chairs out of the sun while they all looked.

Later, we all continued on to San Diego, proper, and checked in to our hotel. That night we went to Old Town San Diego and had Mexican food at Cafe Coyote.

Sunday, we had our free included breakfast and then headed out to the zoo. Fine time was had by all and in the afternoon, after Aria absolutely loved the penguins in Africa Rocks (think Madagascar Penguins), we went back to the hotel, went into the pool for a bit to cool down, and then out to dinner before heading back to the night time zoo. They had a little show with bubbles which Aria loved, and then a parade, which she also loved. And she rode the skyfari at night (I do not like the skyfari, it’s very high up in little buckets).

Yesterday morning we had more free breakfast and then M and I headed home, making it back about 1ish. I guess technically I could have done some writing but I didn’t feel up to it.

Anyway, happy to be back. This weekend should be chill (not temperature wise) except we will got out for dinner for M’s birthday. This was the last trip away we have planned for a while. As a home body, that suits me just fine.

As for what’s coming up storywise, besides the one appearing here, I have to finish The Hike and get the next chapter of The Sight done. I’ll play it by ear as to when any of those appear.

Rambles, August 15, 2018 Edition

I’ve been thinking about the past for the last day or so. It’s been twenty-three years since I went to Ireland now. One of my most fondest memories of my lifetime and it was so long ago. Kind of sad in a way.

Twenty-one years ago I had my gallbladder surgery, right after I came back from Disney World. Ha. Well, almost. We went in July (and don’t even talk about being in Florida in July, ugh) and my surgery was in September. It’s also hard to believe it was so long ago for Disney World.

For that matter, it’s been seventeen years since I went to Austria and Germany.

Where does the time go? I really don’t know. There’s a song by Five for Fighting that is called 100 Years and it talks about having 100 years to live (which of course we don’t, most of us) but what really strikes me is the line I’m fifteen for a moment. Because, really, that’s how it is for us. Life goes so fast.

Anyway, in a couple of days I am off for San Diego for three days. Before I know it that will be done as well. And then August will fall right behind it and it will be September again.

I’ll be working on All I Ever Wanted, next, I think. Not sure when I will have it up, or if I will, before I leave. I am also working on the Professor Spock sequel and at the moment I am actually leaning toward concentrating on that for a bit. I also worked on my Christmas story a bit, yesterday, creating a new beginning for it which will need to be tied together with what I have already written.

I did get the next part of The Love of a Lifetime up for publication here on Friday.

I am going to leave it here, that if another ST movie is made without CP (which I don’t think it will be but you never really know), I will be finishing the stories I have going and then quit writing for the fandom. I’m not interested in a new Kirk and I’m not interested in a movie without the AOS cast. I suspect either a deal will be made or they won’t make the movie, which if Paramount is against putting in any real effort to it, is frankly for the best.

On to other things. Don’t know if I mentioned it or not but my job is moving locations in 2019. There was all kinds of speculation as to where we would be moved (basically our building was sold, our lease is up next year, so we are being booted out), but they have made the decision and it’s literally down the street from where we are now. But ack, moving sucks, and I am not looking forward to it. Yeah it’s not for a year, but, gah. I’ve been in this building for years.

Anyway, that’s the rambles for now.  I leave you with a picture of where we are staying in San Diego.

Ramblings, August 13, 2018

So first, my couch arrived and it was the wrong color. I ordered brown and it came as gray. By the time I realized it the box was open and we were putting it together. Than later I was looking at what I ordered and what I had and realized they sent me the wrong loveseat altogether.  I ordered the “Copenhagen” and they sent me the “Palisades”.

Here it is with throw pillow we got to match our rug. (you can see a tiny edge of the girls’ pink furry blanket LOL)Couch2

Anyway, it’s likely not our forever couch but it will do for now and it replaced the old broken one!

The Hollywood Bowl was a grand time. All the Star Wars nerds with their light sabers was pretty cute.

All I have to say about the Star Trek/Hemsworth/Pine thing is that I don’t think any of us would like to be told by our employers that they were cutting the pay we were promised. It’s Bullshit and Paramount needs to pay up or ruin everything. Fuckers.

In writing, I didn’t do much over the weekend but begin my Professor Spock sequel. Today, I finished Young and Beautiful. YAY. And that’s about where I am at this point.

Temps are back to the norm for August. About 88 or so today. Not bad but we are getting hit with a little more humidity than we are used to getting. I don’t know where you live but the kiddies go back to school this week. Back in my day (yes, yes, old person) we didn’t go back until the Tuesday after Labor Day. But I guess the kids here get more days off during the year to make up for it. Like I know they get three weeks at Christmas, which we did not. The stores were crowded with back to school shoppers this weekend. But now that that’s about over, I expect to see the Halloween stuff show up at any time. I already spotted a Halloween Spirit shop coming soon in one of the vacant buildings near us.

Musings and Stuff

Tomorrow’s update for The Love of a Lifetime has been written and scheduled. It’s going to take a slight turn for a bit, but no worries, the end game is still happiness for my boys. Suvoc makes his appearance at last.

I’m taking a couple of days break before posting on AO3 again so you won’t see an update on there from me today or tomorrow. If I finish the next part of My Heart’s a Virgin, you’ll see that posted Saturday morning.

I am writing, not only the next part of My Heart’s a Virgin, but also working on the Christmas story and possibly starting the Old Married Spock story. Neither have to be ready until November and December but I am not keen to wait until the last minute on either of these.

As I think I mentioned previously, my plan is to only post one Christmas Spirk story this year and it will be entirely focused on Jim and Spock. It should even be angst free. I want to do a warm-hearted, sexy little holiday short for them this year. They deserve it. Given my commitment to other stories going on, I don’t think I can fit more than the one story in this year.

Not really sure what can be expected from the OMS story except that I intend for it to be SHORT. A friend on tumblr mentioned she is doing one too but she expects hers to be over 25,000 words. You aren’t going to get that from me on an OMS TOS story. Sorry folks!

Technically after I get My Heart’s a Virgin finished my next update, spreadsheet-wise should be Young and Beautiful. I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it, because I’m not ready to work on anything else at this point yet anyway.

As you all know, the Hollywood Bowl is this Saturday night. The following weekend, the 18-19-20 is San Diego. After that I should be good for a while, though M’s birthday is the next weekend after that. I also asked for September 04 off so that I can have a 4 day weekend for Labor Day. I’m going to need it by then, I think.

I saw recently that someone who had been pretty prolific in posting on AO3 (and tumblr too I think) recently orphaned her account and left some stories abandoned. I have no idea what happened as I didn’t follow her on tumblr or read most of her stories (they were generally TOS, I believe) but I am sad for her and those who enjoyed her work, which seemed to be quite a few. Internet bullying can be really really hard on the more sensitive of us.  I also saw recently someone who I had written, “I Bleed When I Fall Down” for also left AOS and spoke of suicide.

These are sad days, my friends, so please, I ask that you take care of yourselves physically, mentally, emotionally. Do what you need to do to care for you. Step away, disappear, see the doctor, call a helpline, whatever it is, please do it. You are the important one and no one can be replaced.

Ramblings of the Week, August 06, 2018

So my time in Solvang has come and passed. It’s amazing how time flies, isn’t it?

We had a great time even though it was beastly hot. I am afraid I gained back a couple of pounds but this is certainly a lifetime journey of getting healthy again. So today is a fasting day. Coffee, tea, and broth for me.

It was nice to have a weekend by ourselves. I got a new teapot and we also got some flavored vinegars and oils. They have a year round Christmas shop there that I seldom buy anything at but this time they had a gingerbread man tree skirt. The sister has a collection of gingerbread men similar to my elves, so we texted her about it, and sure enough she wanted us to get it. All they had was one on display but they were able to sell it to us.

This coming weekend is our night at the Hollywood Bowl. We pick one every year to attend, go to a restaurant there, and then enjoy the whole outdoor arena under the stars thing. One year we saw Star Trek 2009 there with music played live to it. We are doing something similar to that this year but instead it is Empire Strikes Back from Star Wars. They also had a night with Harry Potter which I would have preferred but sometimes you have to go with what everyone else wants to see or whatever day happens to work out better for everyone. Anyway, I go for the dinner and the whole Bowl experience.

I put up The Ties That Bind on AO3 (formerly Bonding). Next up to update is Where My Demons Hide and then we will see where I go with updates after that.

We are in the middle of an excessive heat warning. I just read that the entire world is going to be faced with many more of those with global warming and climate change. I am sure you read or saw about the water crisis in Cape Town, South Africa, and fortunately they have beaten it for now. How scary. But I see Australia and Israel are facing severe droughts as well. So are we for that matter but I think it’s worse there. Humans are such wasteful creatures. So even if you aren’t facing a drought where you are, please consider some water conservation, for the planet if nothing else.

Have  a good week.

Expectations and Thoughts

star-trek-4-kirk-and-spock

So I have learned something or decided something, I don’t know which.

But, I am never going to live up to the expectations of readers. There is always going to be someone who wants me to update a work in progress faster, always someone who wants me to write the story the way they want it done, etc. I am not going to be able to finish every story I start to someone’s exacting satisfaction.

There are people who likely become discouraged when I post something new rather than update something they want me to finish and that’s a valid feeling, but I have to do what I must do. I will continue updating as I do, by either spreadsheet or whim, because something calls to me, and I will either have people who want to read it or I will not.

The alternative to me writing and updating as is a personal experience for me is for me to quit altogether because there’s too much pressure or anger or disappointment in me. And I am frankly too old to feel miserable over writing something that is fun for me.

Over the past year there are several projects that I ended up deleting because I either felt pressure about them, lost the enthusiasm, or didn’t get the reaction I hoped for. I don’t like deleting stories I have created, because they are so personal. But on the other hand I don’t want to work on something neither me nor a reader is getting anything out of. I try to make this a rare occurrence but it does and has happened.

With the current WIPS I have going, I have no intention of deleting any of them.

I do have a Christmas story in the works and I also need to do an Old Married Spirk story at some point before November, so yes, more as yet unposted stories are coming from me. If you feel like reading my unfinished stories as I update them, I am grateful. If not, then that’s all right too.

I used to work so so hard to get people to like me and to be popular, I’d put aside everything in my own life to write write write. Because I thought that’s the only way I could do it. And sure, my work is definitely more appreciated than it was when I started, and I’m happy for that, but there will always be creators of fanfiction more appreciated than me, no matter what I do, and so I need to let that go. I’ll never be number one. That’s okay.

I’m working on finishing False Memories, hopefully to post tomorrow, as I won’t get a chance to this weekend. The Love of a Lifetime continues tomorrow. After False Memories, I still hope to write the next chapter of Bonding (the story here on the blog only at this point), and then move on to Where My Demons Hide. But neither of those will make it until next week.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. I love my followers here, you are all my friends now, I like to think.

Be well!

Ramblings of the Week, July 31, 2018

I finally got When I Loved You updated this past weekend. That means next up is Didn’t We Almost Have it All? That is the last one updated in June, now that August is about to start! HA. I haven’t started it but will very soon.

I did manage to get the next part of The Love of a Lifetime done so that will make its appearance tomorrow at 4 AM pacific time.

Not sure what I will work on next after Didn’t We. Probably the next chapter of Bonding. We’ll see.

Don’t really have much else to report. Weekend was fine though super hot. I am fasting today and so far it’s okay. I am allowed water, coffee, tea (I have green with me), and broth, but that is it.

This coming weekend is our Solvang trip. We will leave Saturday morning, stay overnight, hit the restaurant, and then go back to our inn as there is zero nightlife in Solvang. Sidewalks are rolled up at 6 there! Sunday morning we have our free breakfast included with the Inn at our favorite bakery there. Then head back. I think some friends plan on having a picnic Sunday afternoon by the beach that I am probably going to be forced to go. I don’t like picnics. Sigh.

Anyway, have a good week everyone.
