Flash Fic, March 02, 2022

A new month has begun. As I said, no particular theme, flashes at whim.

“Fun in the sun!” Bones exclaimed. “Lying on beautiful beaches with fine sand and even finer women.”

Jim smiled faintly at his friend’s excitement for their upcoming spring break from Starfleet Academy. He couldn’t blame Bones for his enthusiasm. The last few weeks had been grueling.

But admittedly, Jim’s own mind was on other things. He glanced past his friend to the table beyond where Spock sat by himself, back to them.

“I think I’m going to ask Spock to come with us.”

Bones stopped mid-sentence as he’d been waxing poetic about all the plans he was making. “Who?”

Jim shrugged. “You know. Uh, Spock.”

“What in the world for?”

“Because, you know, it’s the nice thing to do. And I am sorta, kinda seeing him.”

Bones stared at him. “A one-night stand does not count.”

“It’s only a one-night stand because it only happened once.”

“That’s usually the meaning, yeah,” Bones said dryly.

“What I mean, Bones, is I intend it to be more than the one time.”

“Okay, you’re crazy, but whatever. Can’t you do all that after our fun in the sun?”

Jim sighed. “I could, yeah.”

Bones smiled.

“But I don’t want to. It’ll be okay. He might not even agree.”

“He will. You’ll turn those baby blues and that saucy smile and he’ll be putty in your hands, just like everyone else.”

“You exaggerate.”

Jim rose, squeezed Bones slumped shoulder, and headed over to sit across from the Vulcan he’d recently spent a night of very excellent sex with.

“Hey.”

Spock, all somber in instructor black, glanced up at him from his PADD. “Jim.”

“You busy?”

“I am always busy. What is on your mind?”

“Paradise.”

Spock arched a brow.

“Of the kind we had the other night, yeah, but also…spring break is in a few days.”

“Mmm.”

“You aren’t going to Vulcan, are you?”

“I have no plans to visit soon, no.”

“Well, Bones and I, I told you about him, we’re planning on going to Monterey for the week. There’s a resort right on the beach with amazing views and a bar right there with tropical drinks. You know the Aquarium is within walking distance, too. Wanna come with me?”

“Your friend will not mind?”

“Nah, he’s good with it,” Jim lied, because he wasn’t about to say ‘he’s throwing a fit but he’ll deal.’ Jim smiled. “What do you say?”

“Would we room with him?”

Jim shook his head. “No, we can get our own room. You and me and paradise. You’d like to go, wouldn’t you?”

Spock took a sip of the tea beside him. “I would like to experience the Monterey Bay Aquarium.”

Jim smelled victory.

“And getting time to spend with you would be an added bonus.”

Jim laughed. “I’m so trying not to be offended that you didn’t say that you’d like to experience more time with me and that visiting the aquarium would be the added bonus.”

“I mean no offense.”

“I know you don’t,” Jim said, reaching out his hand toward Spock and being happily surprised when Spock took his hand. “I had an amazing time the other night and I really want some more amazing times. What do you say?”

“I say that I will join you, yes.”

“Awesome.”

Spock’s lips curved ever so slightly. “In fact, I had been considering contacting you to come over to—”

“Yes.”

“I had not finished.”

“I still say yes. What time?”

“As soon as you are done with your day.”

“I’m done now.”

“Excellent.” Spock turned off his PADD and pushed back his chair. “Let’s be on our way.”

Flash Fic, July 15, 2010

Today we revisit Jim and Spock from It’s Over.

Spock figured he knew where to look. Same place Jim was at the last time they had a fight, sitting on the floor of the library by the books.

But when Spock went there, no Jim.

This agitated Spock to the point he was annoyed. He could not understand why Jim was so unpredictable.

He took out his communicator. “Have you seen him?” he asked without greeting.

“What you do this time, Spock?”

He was very tempted to pinch the bridge of his nose as he’d seen Jim do when he was frustrated.

“Why do you assume I am at fault for our disagreement, doctor?”

“Because you wouldn’t know how to be sensitive if…”

“Is he there?”

“No.”

“Would you tell me if he were?”

“Probably not, but he’s not. Haven’t seen him and he hasn’t contacted me either. I saw him this afternoon over a pepperoni pizza. We were working on the plans for the Christmas in July festivities.”

Spock barely held back his sigh. “That is what the disagreement was over.”

“Oh?”

“He asked me to take part and I said no.”

“Figures.”

Spock shook his head. “It is illogical. Do you have any idea where he might have gone? I looked in the library but…”

“Which?”

“The Academy’s Cadet Library.”

“Nope. You already found him there once. Try the city one. Over on Baker.”

“Spock out.”

This time he did pinch the bridge of his nose and made his way over to the city library. It took him thirty minutes to make it across the city.

He stopped at the main desk just inside the front door. He was aware that most of this library had been digitalized long before and there were very few actual books.

“Where is your book section?” he asked, just short of a demand.

“What subject?”

“Literature and the actual physical books.” Spock paused. “Did a blond man with striking blue eyes come in here?”

The lady shrugged. “Beats me, honey. Literature books are on the second floor way in the back. Just a couple shelves.”

Spock turned and headed for the stairs rather than the lift. He followed the signs to the literature section and sure enough, Jim was seated on the floor, knees pulled up to his chest. He was staring at Spock as he approached.

“I have been looking for you.”

“Guess you found me.”

Spock’s jaw tightened. “I checked the Academy Library.”

“You said I was too predictable before.”

“Clearly I was wrong and you are most maddening.”

Jim tilted his head back to gaze up at Spock as he looked down on him. “Is it over again?”

“I do not know what about my face right now leads you to believe in anyway that I am amused,” Spock said carefully.

“Oh, believe me, I’m well aware you’re fucking pissed. But so am I.” Jim waved his hand. “Fuck off.”

Spock sucked in a breath. “This is not the way to communicate between two people in a relationship. We should talk. Not resort to indelicacies.”

“Fine. Fine. Sorry. I’m sorry I just said that. You’re just…I want to rip the bangs…”

“Simply because I do not want to take part in the ridiculous Christmas in July celebration.”

“No, not because of that. But because the absolute derision and disrespect with which you spoke to me,” Jim said. “What are you going to do if I become your captain?”

“That is a big if.”

“Spock.”

“Will you get off the ground, please?”

Jim nodded and held out his hand. Spock leaned down, grasped it and pulled Jim to his feet and into his arms. He didn’t miss Jim’s gasp of surprise.

“I love you,” Spock said simply. “I know that I never say it and that you continue to doubt that I feel that way, but I do. I will always love you even if I fail to say it. I was in a bad mood and perhaps I was unkinder than I should have been.”

“Perhaps?” Jim pulled back to look at him. But then he sighed. “I could see you were frazzled and distracted, and I barreled right through it and you and shot my mouth off anyway.”

Spock exhaled and leaned his forehead against Jim’s. “This is what I meant when I said couples should communicate. Jim, I apologize for not behaving well earlier and my heated words when we argued. You are correct, you deserve better.”

“And I’m sorry too. For being ridiculously human again and for taking your words way too deeply and not staying after we fought.”

“I do wish you didn’t run away after every disagreement.”

“Not every one.”

“Jim.”

Jim grinned and kissed him. “I love you too. So much. But you know that. And I’m sorry I bombarded you with Christmas in July the minute you stepped into the apartment. You don’t have to participate.”

“Thank you.” He kissed Jim back. “Are you ready to go home?”

“I so am.” Jim grabbed his hand. “Let’s go.”

“And Jim? It will never be over.”

“I now declare my independence,” Jim said as he walked beside Bones.

Bones smirked. “From Gary?”

“Gary and from all others. No more relationships, Bones. I am footloose and fancy free.” Jim turned around and started walking backwards, doing a little foot work as he did so, laughing at the look Bones was giving him.

He turned around then and walked straight into…

“Oomph.” Jim staggered back and a hand shot out to steady him. He felt himself blushing hot. And staring into the most beautiful pair of dark eyes he’d ever seen. “Uh. Hi. And, um, sorry.”

The guy, a Vulcan, arched a brow. “That was quite a dance.”

“Uh.” Jim laughed uncomfortably. “Yeah. I was…sort of celebrating. Jim Kirk.”

“Spock. What were you celebrating?”

“A, uh.” He moistened his lips. “A break up.”

“How fortunate.”

“It is?”

“For me,” Spock said, matter-of-fact. “Dinner?”

Jim heard Bones coughing nearby.

He ignored him.

Smiled.

“Yeah. Dinner sounds great.”

Happy Independence Day!

Dancing on My Own Song Flash, September 27, 2019

Today’s song flash is for Dancing on My Own by Calum Scott. At one time I wanted to do a full story to this song but it’s just not going to work out. So a flash it is. And that concludes my song fics for now.

Spock wasn’t even sure how he had let this happen. It hadn’t been his intention.

Things had been hot and heavy between him and Jim Kirk. Perhaps a little too hot and heavy and so, since Spock worried about appearances, and about Jim passing his tests for the semester at the Academy, he had suggested they take a break. Spock had meant to imply it was temporary, but Jim had gotten that shuttered closed off look he sometimes got and hadn’t spoken to Spock since. Had refused all communications with Spock.

Then Spock had heard through others that Jim was dating someone else. Spock had been…heartbroken. That hadn’t been what he meant to happen at all.

So, when Nyota had suggested they begin spending time together, Spock had seen no reason not to do so.

Until Nyota had invited him to this club, pulled him onto the dance floor, and kissed him.

Startled, Spock pulled her hands down from around his neck, and stepped back. “Nyota, I…”

Her hands went up to her face. “Oh. Spock. I’m sorry.”

“It is I who apologize. I have given you the wrong idea. It was…my error.” Spock looked around, trying to find a place off the dance floor where he could speak to her more privately. It was then that he spotted Jim, looking absolutely devastated, right before he turned and fled the club.

Nyota followed Spock’s gaze. She looked back at Spock. “You’re still in love with Kirk, aren’t you?”

Spock did not reply but he didn’t need to, not really.

“You should go after him, Spock.” She touched his arm. “Before it’s too late and you both regret something.”

He opened his mouth to argue, then nodded, and hurried off the dance floor and to the exit.

There were two directions Jim could have gone and though Spock was unsure which way to choose, he went to the right toward a courtyard. It was later and hardly anyone was around.

By instinct he had chosen this way, and he had been right.

In the middle of the courtyard was a large, old fountain. Jim was next to it but he wasn’t standing or sitting. Instead he was swaying as though dancing to some invisible music.

When Spock approached him, he looked over, but continued his dancing.

“Jim.”

“I…heard you were with her.” Jim gave a little gasp. “I didn’t believe it until I saw you kiss her.”

“She kissed me.”

Jim shook his head. “I knew it was stupid to come there tonight. But-but Sulu said you were there, with her, and I just had to see it.”

“It is not at all what you think you saw.”

“No?” He stopped dancing then. “I was there a while. At the club. You two were so engrossed you didn’t even see me. Is that why you broke up with me?”

“Ashaya, I did not break up with you. That was…I made a mistake. I thought…we spent so much time together I thought I was interfering with your studies.”

“Did I ever say you were?”

“No. But both Dr. McCoy and Captain Pike implied that.”

What?”

“I thought a short break would benefit you and there had been whisperings about the inappropriateness of our relationship. I did not intend to break up and have-have felt bereft that you thought that was my intention.”

Jim took a step closer to him. “What was all Uhura then?”

“There had been indications you were dating others and Nyota expressed a desire to go out a few times.” Spock paused. “I did not realize until tonight that she meant more than as friends. Jim, my preference is for…males.” He paused again. “My preference is for you.”

Jim laughed then and it sounded a bit hysterical. “Spock, I’ve been…you broke my heart.”

Spock felt an ache in his side as he reached for Jim. “I am sorry.”

Jim kissed him, deeply, thoroughly. “Don’t be sorry. Just mend it.”

Spock pulled Jim close, burying his face in Jim’s throat. “T’hy’la.”

“What does that word mean? You’ve said it before.”

Spock pulled back only far enough to kiss Jim’s jaw. “Come home with me. And I will show you.”

“What about Uhura?”

“She told me to go after you. She knows it is you I love. And always will.”

Jim smiled. It lit up his face. “I love you, too. Yes, Spock. I’ll go home with you.”

“And perhaps, you can stay there. With me.”

Jim took Spock’s hand as they walked out of the courtyard. “You want me to move in?”

“Yes. Jim. What were you doing by the fountain?”

“Dancing. On my own.” He laughed. It was lighter than his earlier laugh. “Never mind. Come on, Professor. I’m dying for you. I’ll beg if you want.”

Spock moistened his lips. “I do want.”

And Jim laughed again. It warmed and loosened Spock’s heart. They quickened their steps for home.

The Beginning…3

This is the final part of The Beginning. I will probably start posting to AO3 soon with this but wanted you to see this last part first 🙂

James_T._Kirk_Chris_Pine_in_Trouble  “You were totally scared,” Jim said, as the door of Spock’s apartment closed behind them.

“I refute that statement.”

“Spock, you jumped ten feet in the air. Three times.”

“I was merely startled by the unexpected appearance of the apparition.”

Jim grinned as they entered the kitchen for Spock to make tea. “That’s fear, Spock.”

“My pulse was not elevated.”

“Well, now. Maybe there’s something we can do to change that.”

Spock blinked at him.

Jim’s smile widened. “You know this is our third date.”

“And there is some significance in that?”

He rolled his eyes. “Come on, Spock. That oh so innocent Vulcan act isn’t going to work on me. You are super-duper smart.”

“Super-duper?” That earned him that sexy one eyebrow raise.

“The point is, you know the meaning of a third date. I know you do, because you are brilliant. And you’ve been here in San Francisco for a while now. You know.”

Spock brought over Jim’s tea. “You refer to copulation.”

Jim choked on the sip he’d taken. “Uh. Well. Yeah. Although I wouldn’t have used that word.”

“But that is what you are referring to.”

Jim shrugged and started to rise. “Well, if you aren’t interested then—”

Spock growled and removed the teacup from Jim’s hand. “I am interested.” He slid his hands up Jim’s arms.

He sucked in a breath. “That did wonders for my pulse.”

“Do you want to finish your tea?”

“What tea?”

Spock nodded, his nostrils flaring, and pulled Jim toward the bedroom.

The Beginning…2

“You were bored.”

“No,” Jim denied instantly.

“Nature films are uninteresting to you,” Spock said simply.

“I like animals.”

Spock eyed him. “You yawned two hundred times.”

Jim chuckled. “You’re totally making that up.”

“Perhaps. Did you want to come for tea, Jim?”

His smile slipped and he bit his lip. “I shouldn’t. I want to. But I have this test really early.”

“There are cookies.”

“Cookies?”

“Baked today.”

Jim licked his lips. “What-what kind of cookies?”

“Chocolate chips.” Spock paused, it seemed for effect. “I baked them myself.”

If Jim were a cartoon he’d totally have heart eyes right then. “You talked me into it.”

Spock made the same tea and told Jim to sit.

“Please understand that I used imitation chocolate chips that are only available on Vulcan. They taste very much like chocolate, I assure you.”

“Imitation chocolate.”

“Yes. Vulcans, for certain reasons, do not indulge in chocolate.”

“Are they allergic?”

“Allergic?” Spock shook his head. “Not exactly. More like it intoxicates them. Try the cookie, Jim.”

Jim smiled and took a bite. His smile widened as he chewed. “Oh my God.” He moaned.

“Jim—”

“It’s-it’s obscene.” He moaned again.

“It certainly is.” Spock’s cheeks were flushed green.

Jim choked, then laughed. “Uh. Yeah. Sorry.” He laughed again, blushing himself. “But they are really good. And it totally tastes like chocolate.”

Spock sat at the table and took a cookie. “So they are worth a little loss of sleep.”

“Yeah. Yeah they are.”

“You choose the movie tomorrow, Jim?”

Jim felt a little breathless. “Yeah.” He cleared his throat. “Yes.

Before he left he ate two more cookies and then Spock made him take more with him as we was leaving.

“Are you sure—”

“Yes, I made them for you.”

“That deserves a kiss.”

Spock held out his hand.

“Nope.” Jim grinned and leaned in and planted his lips on Spock’s. “Goodnight, Spock.”

Spock’s dark eyes had definitely turned warm and melty. “Goodnight, Jim.”

Message…3

Kirk-chris-pine-as-james-t-kirk-8196485-375-500

Clearly that was not going to happen now. And as he reached the door of his next class, he just kept walking. And walking. Off the campus and all the way to the docks.

All the bad thoughts entered his head before he could stop them. If he would have even tried to stop them.

Please stay.

Are you crazy? I’m not sticking around here. Not with him.

Take me with you.

Get real, Jimmy. You’re a burden.

What you want doesn’t matter. You are no one.

Think you’re so smart? Well, you’re stupid. So stupid even your mother has had enough. You’re going away for a long time, Jim. You’re leaving Earth.

I was hoping you died with the rest of those losers on the planet. Damn it, we can never catch a break.

Repeat offender.

Loser. Why are you such a loser?

Burden.

You are no one.

Stupid.

Loser.

Jim scrubbed his hand over his face.

I do not believe this is working.

His communicator beeped. Jim blew out a breath and pulled it out.

“Hey Bones.”

“Jim, where the hell are you? I’m here at the dorm. Thought we were moving you out today to Spock’s. Sulu and his boyfriend are here too.”

He clenched his eyes closed. “Yeah. That’s off.”

A long pause. “What?”

Jim walked to the edge of the plank that led to a group of sailboats. “I’m not moving in with Spock, Bones.”

“What? Why? I don’t get it.”

He crouched down and stuck his hand in the cold water. “I do.”

“But I thought—”

“Spock…Spock broke up with me.”

Another long pause and then Bones was swearing. “When? Today? I didn’t think you’d seen him. Jim—”

“I don’t know, in the middle of the night.”

“Middle of the night? You spent the night at the dorm. When did Spock come over?”

“He didn’t. He-he sent me a message.”

“Jim, that doesn’t sound like Spock.”

“Look, he said we weren’t working, Bones. How much clearer is that?”

“Jim. Where are you?”

He shook his head even though Bones couldn’t see.

“Where are you? I’ll come and get you.”

“I don’t need that. I’m fine, Bones.”

“Jim—”

Jim closed his communicator and turned it off, returning it to his pocket.

He needed a drink. Several.

He wanted to be shit-faced, is what he wanted. And then maybe he could pretend his heart hadn’t been broken into smithereens.

“Love sucks.”

Jim turned away from the docks and went up the street, looking for the nearest bar.

Maybe there’d be someone to fuck too.

Message….2

james_t-_kirk_during_the_kobayashi_maru_scenario

Jim tried to pay attention in his linguistics class, he did. But he found himself staring at the back of the head of Uhura.

A few days ago he’d seen them together. At a teashop. Looking intimate, cozy. He hadn’t even known they were meeting that day. At the time, Jim had thought he was overreacting to it. The spark of jealousy he’d felt was nothing. After all, Spock could meet with whomever he wanted. But normally, since they’d been seeing each other, Spock told him everything, all his plans. Not this one.

And now…the message he’d gotten this morning.

I do not believe this is working.

Jim left the class when it was done, wondering if he should go to his next class or not.

“Kirk, are you okay?”

He froze and turned to face Uhura, who was frowning at him.

Jim kept his face blank. “Yeah. Sure. I’m fine.”

“Are you—”

“Have to go.”

She was still talking when he walked away, and yeah, maybe it was rude, but he just couldn’t do this right now.

Today, well, this afternoon, after classes, was to be the day he was going to move out of his dorm and in with Spock.

Message… 1

Captain_kirk_2

Jim had read the message ten times. The content never changed. His vision blurred with the tears stinging his eyes. He closed his eyes as tears squeezed out. The lump in his throat nearly choked him. He tossed the PADD away.

Okay so it was what it was. What the hell was he going to do about it anyway? Kill himself? Get stinking drunk? Go get himself laid? All of the above?

Well, so what. He didn’t need anyone. No one.

His communicator beeped. He picked it up and looked. “Bones?”

“You have class in ten minutes. You told me to remind you.” Pause. “Jim, are you okay?”

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “Yeah. Sure. Yeah. Okay. Class. Thanks. Thanks, Bones.”

“Jim—”

“Gotta run.” He turned off his communicator. Stared at his PADD which lay on the floor by the kitchen.

I do not believe this is working.

“Fuck you anyway.”

He grabbed his bag and left the dorm, leaving the PADD behind.
