Fan Fiction and Personal Ramblings

Flash Fic, 03/06/2020

“How long is this going to go on?”

Jim tilted his glass back and took a large swallow of the burning whiskey. “Hmm?”

Uhura sighed and took a drink from her own glass. She flicked her head in the direction of the group across the room. “How many days?”

“How many days what?”

“Captain, you’re so tedious like this. You and Spock not speaking. How many days so far?”

“You’ve got your nose all up in everyone’s business. You probably know.”

She snorted. “Four days.”

He smirked. “See?”

“You know he only spoke up because he is your friend and is concerned for your safety as both your friend and your first officer.”

He finished his drink. “Are you through?”

She sighed again. “Yes.”

“Excellent.” Jim rose from his seat and without looking back at Uhura he went up to the table where Spock sat with a group made up of his science department. “Commander.”

“Captain.”

“Can we talk?”

Spock excused himself and they moved to the side of the room. Jim shifted awkwardly, not looking at him.

“So, uh, listen. I guess maybe I overreacted, so for that, I’m sorry.”

“I accept,” Spock said quickly, “and offer my own apology for stating my point in an abrupt and insensitive way.”

Jim nodded. “Okay. So, if you, I don’t know. Want to play chess—”

“Yes.”

Jim glanced at him. Nodded again. “We could do it in my quarters or—”

“Yes.”

Jim blew out a breath. “Uh. All right. See you there in a few minutes then.”

He left the rec room and headed for his quarters. It felt better to be talking to Spock again, but he couldn’t deny he still felt…stiff and awkward. Kind of like they had just before it all went to shit on Altamid.

He dreaded returning to that non-friendship.

Only a moment later, Spock appeared, requesting entry, so Jim let him in.

“Spock, I think we need to talk more,” Jim said as soon as Spock entered. “Look, I feel that…things are kind of off with us. Maybe that’s why it was so easy for us to get into that big fight, I don’t know. But I really don’t want to return to the way things were with us when you wanted to leave.”

“I did not want to leave. I felt it was my duty to—”

“Yeah, I know. That’s semantics, Spock.”

Spock’s dark eyes darkened, if that were possible. “You wished to leave also.”

He nodded. “I did. And…I just don’t want us to reach that point again. Where we’re barely friends.”

“I do not wish that either.”

“I know I have an issue, Spock, and I am working on it.”

“An issue, Captain?”

Jim exhaled. “I have these feelings surrounding you and I’m…I know they need to go away or at least be controlled.”

“What feelings?”

“Lord, you don’t intend to make this easy, do you? Soft ones. Feelings that go beyond friendship, I guess, and I’ve had them a long time, so I know a whole bunch of this is my fault because of my inability to deal with it, but I don’t want it to be awkward between us because of unwelcome feelings on my part.”

Spock sucked in a breath. “And if they are not?”

“Huh?”

“If your softer feelings are not unwelcome, what then?”

Jim’s jaw dropped open. “Spock, what are you saying?”

Spock stepped close, but his hand on Jim’s face. “I share your softer feelings.”

Jim stopped at the nurse’s desk in the Starfleet hospital outside the area where he’d been told Jaylah had been taken.

“Hi, James Kirk. Here to see Jaylah, Ensign.”

She nodded. “She’s resting comfortably in room 424, Captain.”

Jim went down the hall, shuffling the items in his hands as he did so, until he found the correct room. There was no door on the outside, as often was the case with hospital rooms. He craned his neck around the opening to see if she was awake or had other visitors. He saw no one and Jaylah sitting up.

“James T,” she greeted him instantly as he approached her bed. She smiled. “You came.”

“Of course I did.” He thrust the bouquet of flowers in her general direction, as well as the balloon declaring “Congratulations.”

She tilted her head. “Over there, on the table, please.”

Jim saw there was a vase already on the table filled with flowers as well as a big stuffed bear wearing a blue diaper. He shook his head and added his flowers over there and set his balloon next to her bed.

“Well? Where is the little one?”

“They take him for a walk. He’ll be back in a moment.”

“Who did?”

“Commander Spock and Uhura.”

“Ah.” He nodded. “They beat me here. Last minute meetings are a pain. Bear come from them?”

“Yes.”

He sat on the edge of her bed, but other than a slightly reproachful look, Jaylah let him. “So, what’s next for you? With a baby…”

They both looked toward the door at the commotion, in the form of his first and communication’s officers returning with the baby. Of course Uhura had the little blue wrapped bundle and was cooing nonsensically at him.

“Some linguistic you are,” Jim joked.

“Captain,” Spock exclaimed. “We did not expect you to be free for some hours.”

Jim’s lips twitched. “I charmed my way out early.”

Uhura rolled her eyes at him, but stopped to show him Jaylah’s little bundle of joy. “Beautiful, isn’t he?”

“I’ll say. Give me that baby.” Jim scooped him up into his arms as Spock joined them by the bed.

“Be careful, James T.”

“I know how to handle babies,” Jim insisted.

“When have you held one that young?” Uhura asked.

Jim didn’t answer at first. He let the little boy grab his index finger. Then he said softly, “On Tarsus, when a woman there lost her life shortly after giving birth. I cared for the infant for a time.”

There was a very subdued collective gasp, but Jim didn’t miss it.

“Well, you’re just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Let me give you to your beautiful mama.”

He turned to Jaylah and laid the bundle in her arms.

“Gorgeous. You’re very lucky.”

“Yes.”

Uhura cleared her throat. “What about you, Captain? Think you’ll have one of your own one day?”

He shrugged. “Anything’s possible, Lieutenant. With surrogacy, it’s definitely possible someday.” He yawned. Then he covered his face in embarrassment. “I’m so sorry.”

“You are exhausted,” Spock said, quietly. He looked to Uhura. “Nyota, I am taking him home to rest. Would you like to stay a little longer?”

“Sure. I can get back to my place on my own.”

Spock grabbed his arm.

“I’ll be by tomorrow,” Jim called out as he was shuffled out of the room. “I could have stayed,” he grumbled, even as he sagged against Spock.

“As you say, we will come tomorrow.” Spock paused. “Well?”

Jim sighed. “Yeah, I got it. The promotion.”

“So you are…”

“Fucked.”

“Jim—”

“Admiral Kirk, yeah. Can we stop and get fries on the way home?”

“Yes.”

“And a burger.”

“Yes.”

“And cookies.”

Jim smiled, leaned over and kissed Spock on the cheek. “Thanks, honey.”

Just Quick Update

Got Cadet Ashayam updated and was even able to write sex. Go me. Up next, once again, is my Sound of Music AU. We’re going to get our first chapter from Prince Spock’s POV who has the Baroness (T’Pring) and Uncle Max..er..Uncle Sybock with him. Should be fun.

Plugging along on the Bang story. Chapter 2 is well on its way.

Otherwise, just going through the week. I do seem to be back on track with my eating so that’s good.

Next week we start back with the movies I think.

Nothing really exciting to report, unfortunately. Or maybe fortunately! I don’t know.

Happy March

Well here we are in the third month of the year. Barely, but it counts.

Took a half day Friday and talked to Macy’s Fraud Dept. Still told it’s “in process”. In the meantime, received another bill where the thief bought sunglasses. For another $200. Filed yet another claim. I am now into 5 months dealing with this. Unbelievable. But…yeah.

Went to Drag Queen Bingo at the Elk’s Lodge last night. It’s for charity. A good time was had by all but we didn’t come anywhere close to winning a single game.

Was looking at some news report and check this out…

See that tiny apartment? It’s a bed, a toilet, sink and a shower. Don’t think it includes a kitchen. Anyway, this is London. So we aren’t the only one with too expensive places to live. $2000 per month for this. Yep.

Here’s crossing my fingers that this month will be better. I am going to Morro Bay for two days later this month, so I am greatly looking forward to that. As well as next week’s time change.

I think I have a good couple of flashes coming up this week.

Up next for AO3 if I get to it this week is Cadet Ashayam.

Still trying to get the Bang to shape up. I did finish the first chapter. That’s something. And if I am nowhere reasonable at the end of this month I will drop out. Hopefully that won’t happen.

I think that’s about it for now.

A little…TOS

Now that he was faced bringing the gift to his husband, Jim felt a bit silly. He was second and third guessing himself. Spock wasn’t exactly the cuddly type, well except sometimes with Jim, when he felt like it, of course, and certainly not the gift receiving type either, but hell he was committed now.

He opened the door to their San Francisco apartment, picked up the box with the present and stepped inside.

“Spock?”

“In the kitchen, Jim.”

Jim smiled to himself and headed for their kitchen. He could smell one of his favorite dishes cooking, a vegetarian chili that Spock made often because Jim had a tendency to gobble it down whenever Spock made it. Also on the counter was a plate of peanut butter cookies, his favorite.

For a moment, the love and happiness Jim felt at having Spock here with him, back and remembering more and more all the time, made his chest ache and his throat clog with emotion. God, he loved Spock, and he cursed himself for waiting far too long to tell him. Had they wasted the time they could spend together on stupid nonsense that hadn’t even mattered? Jim did.

Spock turned toward him, wearing the white robe he so often favored these days, giving him a questioning look. “Is anything wrong?”

“No.” Jim cleared his throat. “Absolutely nothing. Everything smells great.”

“Since it is our anniversary, as you pointed out, I thought I would prepare some of your favorite foods.”

“And I love you for it. Thank you.” The noise at his feet, made him glance down at the box. “I, uh, I have a present for you.”

Spock’s eyebrow shot up. “A present? I do not need presents, Jim.”

“I know, but I saw this…uh…her…and just something made me.”

“Her?”

Jim laughed. “Yeah.” He bent down, opened the box, and removed the fluffy orange kitten. He put her in Spock’s arms.

The kitten, smart little girl, immediately started purring. Spock’s eyes melted and before Jim knew it, his husband was smiling softly.

Okay Jim, he thought, you did well.

Jim leaned over and kissed Spock’s cheek. “What do you think of the name Butterscotch?”

As My Financial Ruin Continues

As you know I have an ongoing fraud claim with Macy’s American Express. And when I say ongoing, I discovered fraudulent charges way back at the beginning of November. I called them to report it right away, as I am supposed to do.

Since then, I have multiple fraudulent charges on the same account even though they canceled that first card and sent me another. That I did not activate. Didn’t matter. The thief knew how it worked apparently and managed to use it anyway. They closed that one. I didn’t activate that one either. More charges. I received a $200 coat I did not order. I could go into further details but I think you know enough to understand my dismay and frustration with Macy’s and the thief they have allowed to continually victimize me.

In desperation, I stopped didn’t pay my statement in January and didn’t pay it on time in February, because I figured, maybe this would be the only thing that would stop the thief. If Macy’s actually told the fraudster, nope, sorry, but you are past due. I had asked for my account to be closed, mind you, but give everything I have gone through I knew not to trust them.

Since I had filed more fraud reports, I decided to finally send them a $200 check. But before they could even receive that, there’s more.

I am sitting at my desk at work on Tuesday morning and I get an alert from my bank, Chase, advising I am overdrawn almost $300. Needless to say my jaw dropped. I looked at my account. Macy’s took a $1000 payment from my account. ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. Which I did not have nor had I authorized, obviously.

Called Chase and disputed it. They filed a claim and would give me back the money while they investigated it. They recommended I close that checking account and open a new one at my earliest opportunity.

Called Macy’s from work. They wouldn’t talk to me from my mobile phone so Tuesday night I called from home and told them they had stolen from me. The customer rep, Cataleen, said she was marking it as a fraudulent payment and would send me an email confirmation. I never got that email, by the way. I cannot trust them. I am now forced to take a half day on Friday to call them again (their hours are all Eastern and their fraud department closes before I get home, conveniently) and make sure they give me back my $1000. We figure what happened is the thief tried to charge something yet again and was told the account was in arrears. They must have than authorized this $1000 payment over the telephone from my account (which Macy’s American Express had my account information).

As you can imagine I am beside myself over this. Distracted from writing? You bet.

Tuesday night I went into the bank, put a freeze on the old account (I am not able to close it yet) and opened a new one. Thankfully they did give me back the $1000 but that is a temporary credit until their investigation is done, so I am still left fighting with Macy’s. Cataleen had the nerve to ask me if I wanted a new card sent to me. I said no I want it CLOSED. CLOSED. She claims it is. But now I will confirm when I deal with all of this on Friday.

Filed a complaint with the FTC. Froze my credit. Reported a Fraud Alert on my credit.

If you have a Macy’s credit card of any time I would hasten to close it. They are thieves and have no clue how to prevent fraud. None. M thinks it’s an inside job at Macy’s. Could be.

So the saga continues. And continues. And continues.

February sucks again.

I regret now filling out the first check-in for the Bang because it’s well…distracting. I will try to get through it. Trying.

Jim slammed on the brakes of the car he was using to speed down the road away from the farmhouse, away from his life there. He really had no idea where he was going, other than away from Frank, away from the dickhead who’d made Sam leave.

The farmhouse had been theirs, his mom’s and dad’s, not that asshole, yet his words still rang in Jim’s ears as he had continued to drive.

“You live in my house.”

Bullshit, it wasn’t Frank’s house. Or it hadn’t used to be. But his mother was off planet again and Frank was back and in charge.

He’d sped right past Sam as he’d hitchhiked away. Sam looked shocked and Jim hadn’t blamed him.

Then the cop had pulled his vehicle right in front of Jim as he was about to head down a dirt  path that led to the cliff and the crater.

Now smoke was coming from his brakes and tires. Jim winced as the cop approached him.

“Citizen.”

Jim opened his mouth to say his name when the cop reached up and removed his helmet to reveal a Vulcan.

His Vulcan.

Well…the mysterious one he had seen twice before.

“Uh. Hey.”

“Jim. What are you doing?”

He scowled now. “Driving this old car. And that…you said he was gone. Frank. But you lied.”

“It was not intended to be a lie,” the Vulcan said. “He had been taken to jail. I didn’t know that he would reunite with your mother.”

Jim felt his bottom lip tremble, so he looked away. “He talks a good game when he wants to. He charmed her into thinking he’d changed.”

“I see. Jim, you must turn this car around and go back.”

“What? Why? I don’t want to go back.”’

“Driving your stepfather’s car over a cliff is not the answer.”

He looked at the Vulcan. “Well I…”

“Jim. I will take care of Frank.”

“You-you said that before. And he came back. He hurt me again.”

“I know. But never ever again.”

“And I’m just supposed to listen to you. I don’t even know your name. Who are you?”

“I cannot say. But I am from the…future.”

“The future?”

“Yes. Your future. Turn around, Jim, and go back. Please.”

Jim slammed his hand down on the steering wheel. “Fine.”

He turned the car around and drove back to the farmhouse. To his surprise, Sam had returned. He stood in the yard with his backpack.

Jim stopped the car and got out, looking at Sam in question. “Where’s Frank?”

Sam shook his head. “I don’t know. He’s not here.”

Jim bit his lip. “How come you’re back?”

Sam shrugged. “There was this Vulcan…”

Rambles 02/24/2020

The ice plant in the neighborhood is in full bloom.

So I haven’t made any progress on the Bang Story other than the initial 1,000 words I have written. Not sure how I feel about that. TCIGTY is the acronym for the story. I think I can reveal THAT much. This Saturday is our first check-in and half of me is thinking of pulling out (no pun intended). I’m a little unmotivated.

In other news I did get updates done on a few stories and wrote a quick song related story, so all was not lost.

This week, on Wednesday, I think, I am meeting friends for happy hour. Meh. Not really in the mood. Leap Day I am going to a charity event with my sister at the local Elk’s Lodge. Also my Leap Story, Four Years Later, will be posted.

Got flashes on Wednesday and Friday. Wednesdays involves the mysterious time-traveling Spock. Fridays is a fluff piece involving TOS OMS. Something to look forward to.

In the meantime, writing-wise. I will see what I can get done this week on that Bang Story so I can make my decision.

Work is still crazy busy (nope we have not even posted the job for the third person yet).

Last week of February is upon us. Next Sunday is March. Things are looking up!

Flash Fic, 02/21/2020

This one may have you out with pitchforks! LOL

Spock stood to the side, well away from his captain who was leaning in close to speak with Lieutenant Carol Marcus. He was not part of the conversation, and though he could have likely heard if he strained to do so, Spock chose not to eavesdrop.

Marcus appeared to be upset, though she was not crying. After a moment, she shook her head, briefly put her hand on the captain’s arm, then turned and fled in the opposite direction.

Spock had been surprised to see her. She had abruptly aborted her intention to be on the Enterprise after just a few short weeks. There had been rumors, plenty of them, that she had engaged in an ill-fated romance with Captain Kirk. Spock paid little heed to rumors, whether they were true or false.

He hadn’t expected to see her again, so had been surprised when she appeared on Yorktown during their leave to repair, rebuild more accurately, the Enterprise. He was aware that she had monopolized much of their captain’s time since then.

“Uh oh. That didn’t look good.”

He glanced at Nyota who stood next to him.

“You should go see if he’s okay.”

“He appears to be fine, Nyota.”

She sighed. “Spock, that looked intense. Has he told you? Was she intending to get back together with him?”

Spock bristled at this. “He has not said so. It would be illogical for her to believe that she can…”

“Spock. Go and talk to him.”

“But you and I were on our way for tea.”

She rolled her eyes. “With him. Before she stopped him. I can still meet you guys there.” She squeezed his arm. “It’s your duty.”

“As first officer?”

“No. His boyfriend.” She pushed him toward the captain, who still stood there, stiffly, his back to them.

Spock exhaled and approached. “Captain, are you well?”

Jim looked at him, eyes so tumultuous they looked nearly black in his face. “We have a son.”
