Rambles for the end of March 2020

A message from a child at my condo complex

I sure would like to think and believe in this positive message.

Tomorrow, when I go into the office, it may well be the last time in quite a few weeks. My job has lost patience with waiting for laptops that seem as scarce as toilet paper and hand sanitizer and has decided that we must all bring our desktops home and work from home. So with a bit of stuff I must do in the office to make the transition smoother, I will be also disconnecting my equipment and bringing it home, all the while crossing my fingers that it all works like it’s supposed to once I get it all hooked up at home.

M’s working from home has been extended to May 31st. I have no idea how long it will be for me.

I have mixed feelings. I really don’t like the work at home thing. But on the other hand I won’t have to drive every day, which I hate, and can get up later and get home sooner. It’s better for my asthma to stay home. Don’t have to worry about what I look like etc.

But yeah. Not happy. But it is what it is. And I have a job for now so can’t complain.

I got all the Monday flashes done and scheduled for April.

I updated Our So-Called Life. Have not written a single word on the Bang story since I turned in my rough draft to prove I had written 6,000 words a week ago. And all I can say is meh. So we will see. Later this week I hope to update The Carrier if I can kick myself into doing it.

And so today is the last day of March, which turned out to be an absolutely miserable month. I once had such high hopes for it.

Good Riddance March 2020

An Empty Park
An Empty Park
Sign of the times, all equipment at the park has been roped off as unusable during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Very sad, I thought.

March 23, 2020 Rambles

So, what’s going on? I’m home today as I have today and tomorrow off work. I have to go back into the office on Wednesday and Thursday as we are “exempt” from the stay at home thing and I don’t have my laptop yet. My plan for those days is to scan my files electronically so that when I do get my laptop I have the necessary files to work at home. I honestly thing this stay at home thing is going to go through at least May. We shall see.

Watched Contagion last night. I’ve seen it before, years ago, when it was out, but man, it’s so similar to what’s happening now I think it was a mistake to watch it. It’s like a horror film really.

I am almost up to the 6,000 words for the Bang story. I plan on getting it to that point today. I am at 5,000 now. Once I reach the 6,000 I will get the next chapter of The Carrier up. Boy do we all need Spirk distractions right now!

Then it’s on to Just When I Needed You Most. So we will see what I can get done.

I have asthma so I am not going to lie, I’m concerned. I feel good. No fever or anything. But I am…still a little concerned. I will stay as safe as I can be.

I hope that you will too.

Ramblings, February 01, 2020

I’m not a fan of February. Over the years there have been many times that something not so great has happened in this month, and so, I am relieved when most years it’s a mere 28 days. It’s fine to kiss it goodbye then.

Anyway, here we are in the leap year and we get 29 days. As you know that means Every Four Years Later will appear on the archive on that day, provided, of course, I cease to procrastinate over it.

Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday are later in the month this year too. I seem to recall Easter is like April 14th. Growing up I dreaded lent. Not because of fish on Fridays (I’ve always loved fish with a passion) but because as Catholics we were supposed to give up something important to us for 40 days. I usually gave up candy or something like that. When you are a child believe me that’s torture! ha ha

Anyway, for February you get your Wednesday and Friday flashes back. Including a few TOS choices. There’s two for Valentine’s Day too. One for TOS on the 12th and the other on the 14th for AOS.

I have written and scheduled the first flash for March so we will see where we go with that.

I survived the birthday party at the winery last night (with only a slight headache which I consider a win).

Have a good week.

Doing Better, Thank You

And back to work tomorrow. I always feel vaguely guilty being out sick as I have a ton of work, but, that’s the way it goes.

Found these wild flowers on a walk the other day and thought I’d share their pictures. Nature has more beautiful colors than any manufacturer can come up for their products, I think.

I got Cadet Ashayam updated so that’s a load off my mind. I am working on Every Four Years Later to appear on February 29th on the Archive rather than the blog. I did finish all my flashes for February already so yay me.

I don’t know what I’m going to do for March yet as far as Flashes because of the T’hy’la Bang story. I have started it. I am not allowed to tell you anything about it, not even the title, which I do have (it’s a song title, I think I can tell you THAT much). You may only get sporadic flashes, it’s really going to depend how confident I feel about the Bang story as I get through February.

PLUS I still have my regular stories to update. I think next up is My Heart Wants to Sigh, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves!

Meanwhile, Friday I have a birthday party to go to after work. Yippee…not.

Er…pretty sure that’s enough to ramble about for now. It’s warm this week here. Don’t need the groundhog to tell us Spring is here!

Oh…PS. I watched a couple of episodes of DS9 while sick and I just have to say that their theme music is just absolutely gorgeous.

Decorations (Mine-Home)

I got a request from J who missed my usual decoration pictures I have posted in the past. So…here are some pictures, post 1. I will do other posts.

It was the day after Thanksgiving and all through the house…elves. My sister bought me a little Elf tree this year, so I decided to do all elf decorations. Yes, I am a dork. Anyway this is much much much smaller tan the usual tree, but it was cute!

Ignore any mess you see!

Thursday Rambling, November 07, 2019

I don’t know if you guys have Aldi’s where you are. It’s a bit of a strange grocery store that originally came from Germany. They sell food but they also sell socks and weed whackers. It all depends what they can get. In many ways they remind me of the old Gemco on a much smaller scale. For you youngsters, you can Google Gemco. They’s long since gone out of business.

Anyway, they have some really cool stuff especially at the holidays. Lots of German chocolate and Father Christmas stuff, etc. Last year they had a Wine Advent Calendar that apparently sold out in minutes. It’s exactly what it sounds like, a wine for every day from December 01-24 (yes yes my sister has told me that is not the real “advent” blah blah). So they announced they’d have it again this year and release it on November 06th.

They also intended to have the usual chocolate ones, with some with chocolate from Germany, a Hot Wheels one, a cheese one and a beer one.

Another supermarket (Kroger) also announced they would have one this year and I had seen a similar box at Cost Plus World Market (don’t know if you have those either). The one they had was $100 and the one at Aldi was supposed to be $70. I almost bought the World Market one but didn’t.

So I go to the Aldi near me after work yesterday and…gone. Sold out. First day. No beer one, no wine one, no cheese one. I did get a chocolate one but those were going fast too. Sigh. I was very disappointed because it sounded fun to have 24 little bottles of wine to try.

Yesterday sucked. It was the one year anniversary of Crazy’s death.

I decided to apply for another credit card just to see if I could get it and was rejected. Couldn’t get my wine.

This morning I looked on the website for World Market and according to that they still had a 12 Bottles of Wine for Christmas and I could buy it online and pick it up at my local store. It was $59. I bought it. So after work I will attempt to pick it up. The cynical part of me expects to be told they lied and they don’t really have it in stock. In that case they will be forced to refund me. So we shall see! HA

In other news I am up to 14 written for my 25 days of Christmas. The 14th will very much please a certain reader. Next I plan on working on another one for TOS as so far it’s very heavily geared toward AOS which will still continue but I think I need at least one more TOS. So I am making progress!

Tomorrow the Fall Guys will be back!

September 11

On September 11, 2011, the ten year anniversary of that dreadful, heartbreaking day, I spent most that day on a website dedicated to online memorials for those that perished in the two towers. It was emotionally draining and crippling, but something, on that day, I needed to do.

I can hardly believe it has been another eight years since then.

On this day in 2001, I will never forget watching the buildings collapse on television. It was…mind boggling. The television was on at work and we were all glued to the coverage. I can still hear Peter Jennings in my head.

The night before, my friends and I had been at the mall shopping for a European trip we were taking in October. We never imagined what the next day would bring. If there was any innocence left on September 10th, it was definitely gone forever on the 11th

I had taken the bus that morning and being on the West Coast the news was already coming in. Eventually, my job at the time, dismissed us for the day, knowing there was no work getting done, and those in charge there just as stunned as we were. A friend drove me home. I watched the news nonstop the rest of the day, emotionally wrecked and distraught.

There are things you never forget if you lived through them. The Riots here after the Rodney King thing, OJ Simpson’s being exonerated even though we knew he was guilty, stuff like that. But it all pales in my mind and memories to September 11, 2001.
