Sheβd insisted on wearing a traditional wedding dress rather than giving into the idea of wearing Vulcan robes. The dress fell long to just the top of her delicate little ballet slippers, which were trimmed with tiny little cloth roses in yellow that seemed to go very well with her off-white dress and shoes. Sheβd chosen not to don a veil or a tiara, nothing like that. She just had her blonde hair, now streaked rather liberally with gray, piled high on her head with ringlets cascading down.
She looked beautiful. Even breathtaking if Jim was allowed to say so considering she was his mama.
βI bet you looked like this when you married dad.β
Winona Kirk, soon to be Kirk no more, Jim supposed, turned and gave him a radiant smile. βOh but a lot younger, of course.β She sighed and smoothed out her dress. βIs it stupid that Iβm nervous?β
βNope. Itβs not every day you get married. And even less that you marry a Vulcan.β
βAnd yet you did too.β
βUh-huh.β Jim sat down on the edge of her bed as she stood before the free-standing full length mirror in her bedroom.
Sarek had, somewhat surprisingly, agreed to have their marriage and bonding ceremony in Riverside at the farmhouse. The couple would split their time between the farmhouse and their house on New Vulcan.
If someone had told Jim a year ago that his father-in-law would one day become his stepfather, wellβ¦life was strange sometimes. But Sarek seemed to make his mother happy and that was what mattered to Jim.
βWere you nervous?β
βI was. And I had a bit of cold feet, too.β
She frowned at him. βDid you?β
βSure. All that bonding for life, mind meld shit, itβs a lot to deal with.β He laughed. βYou know that. Youβre dealing with some of that yourself.β
βWe havenβt really done much in the way of melds. But yes. Iβm still surprised to hear you had doubts.β
βOf course I did. But I loved Spock, so I set those aside and married him anyway.β
βAnd now?β
Jim laughed. βNow Iβm deliriously happy and have no clue what my problem was. How about you, Mom? You have any doubts?β
She thought about it. Shook her head. βNo. I am nervous. Maybe Iβll say the wrong thing, stumble over my words, that kind of thing. I donβt want to embarrass Sarek in front of the priestess or other Vulcans. But doubts about being Sarekβs wife? No. I love him and he loves me. Weβre different, sure, but I think those differences make us work really well. I never had doubts about your dad either.β
Jim nodded, smiled, and stood to offer her his arm.
βFrank was a different story.β
βYeah?β
βI definitely had a million alarms going off in my head, but I ignored them, thinking it was justβ¦not wanting to let go of your father.β She shook her head ruefully. βWhat a fool I was. I should have listened to my instincts.β
βYou werenβt a fool. You were just lonely and wanted companionship. You chose the wrong guy. But youβre no fool, Mom.β
βI certainly have a spectacular son.β She hugged him.
βCome on, letβs get you married.β
They exited her bedroom and went down the stairs and out to the yard to begin.
And that concludes the love month of February, thanks for reading

I don’t know what March will bring here. We’ll see. I’ll at least do a birthday flash for you but other than that, not sure. π

Ballet slippers – what a….Winona touch! I never would have thought of that. I LOVE this Jim and mom together. And Jim so supportive, as is Winona for him. Sarek’s a lucky guy. He ever hurts her, he’ll find out the wrath of Khan was tiddlywinks! A grown-up Jim won’t put up with it, and I’m double sure Spock won’t. Being BOTH their parents? If either Sarek or Winona is nervous, it should be about their BOYS keeping an eternal eye on them! LOL
Very sweet.

OH – and Winona having a bouquet made of cotton bolls. That’s an amazing touch for an Iowa wedding!

I never even noticed the cotton bouquet. Maybe Sarek should have a corn blossom boutonniere. πΎ
