Jim got out of the shower, dressed, and joined Spock in the kitchen.
Spock looked a little…stressed. It’s not like he appeared like a Human would when stressed, but there was definitely something off about Spock that hadn’t been the case when he came home and they’d made out.
“Hey, are you all right?” Jim asked as he went into the fridge to get some iced tea.
Spock, who stood at the stove, working on stir-frying vegetables, nodded. “I received a message from my father, but I am fine.”
After pouring himself a glass, Jim leaned against the counter to watch Spock.
“And? Something bad?”
Jim hadn’t had a lot of exposure to Sarek while he and his aunt, Gilda, had been on Vulcan. He’d met and interacted with Amanda quite a number of times and found her quite warm and personable, despite as Gilda had said to him, ‘being trapped in a nightmare of her own choosing’. Jim adored his aunt, truly, but her experiences on Vulcan, teaching non-Vulcan children there, had made her firmly dislike the ‘Vulcan Bureaucrats’ as she also quoted to Jim.
She had disdainfully informed Jim that Spock’s father, Ambassador Sarek, was one of those detestable Bureaucrats. Ultimately the fact the Vulcan authorities stuck their noses into everything, again according to Gilda, was what made Gilda return to Earth, ultimately abandoning her impressionable students to their fate on Vulcan (again more according to his aunt then Jim).
Jim had returned to Earth with her, of course, but not before vowing that he and Spock would one day be reunited.
As they now were.
Spock shook his head and tossed in nuts with the vegetables. “A small matter which I will deal with at another time. Though I have long been an adult and responsible for my own life, he prefers to dictate what he thinks I should do.”
Jim laughed softly. “Welcome to my life. Mom does the same. She about croaked over when I told her Pike convinced me to enlist in the Academy. She informed me she knew him and intended to give him a piece of her mind.”
Spock glanced at him. “And did she?”
He shrugged. “Don’t know. She never said for sure if she did or not and I have yet to see him since I got here. What does your dad expect you to do?”
“Something I have long fought with him over. Do not worry over it. It is merely an irritation I must deal with. Like swatting a gnat.”
Jim smiled and moved in to give him a quick peck on the lips. “That smells amazing. Can I add shrimp to mine?”
“Of course. I already took some out of the freezer.”
“You know me so well.”
There was a loud crack of thunder followed by a flash of lightning. Jim stepped out of the kitchen then and went to the sliding glass door to the patio.
“Going to be a dark and stormy night. It’s starting to rain.”
“Good thing we are staying in.”
“Yep. And you know what’s great about weather like this?”
“What?” Spock wondered.
“Sex.”
Spock shook his head. “Sex is great no matter the weather.” He paused. “At least with you.”
Jim returned to the kitchen and Spock’s arms. “Right back at you.”

Wow! Spock is sure playing it cool to Jim about this! “Something I have long fought with him over. Do not worry over it. It is merely an irritation I must deal with. Like swatting a gnat.” Lol! Yeah Spock Pon Farr and your betrothed is quite the gnat! I take it that Jim doesn’t know the whole T’Pring and being drawn together at the proper time thing!?
Spock needs to deal with this situation ASAP! Break up with T’Pring and get your relationship with Jim officially made!
Now I’m wondering what Spock is cooking. I’m hoping that he knows Jim’s allergies. Throwing in some nuts. Yikes! I hope Jim’s okay with that. Jim suggests shrimp, another big allergen, but I’m sure Jim knows what he’s doing. Time will tell.

I’m fairly sure as an adult Jim would know what he was allergic too so I wouldn’t worry about it
The fact that they both know, in fact, is right there in Jim’s words, “You know me so well”
Spock is well aware of what Jim likes and can eat, obviously 🙂

I’m pretty confident about Jim being ok with shrimp since he suggested it, but wasn’t sure he saw Spock add the nuts. 🤷🏻♀️
I’m always prepared for classic Ivan angst, even when in an otherwise feel good story. You just can’t help yourself!!
BTW you’re making me hungry here!
Also I’m glad Jim has a real relationship with his mother in this story, even if she’s trying to give Pike of her mind. What’s a mother to go?!
Loving the dark and stormy night and staying inside together. Looking forward to reading more of this story! 😘

“Like swatting a gnat.”
THAT is hilarious!!! You made me snort.
Yeah, a tall, dark, big, powerful, pointy eared out of control angled eyebrowed bureaucrat Vulcan gnat.
Probably a lot like “a pet sehlat…sort of a fat teddy bear.” LOL
Honestly, I would NEVER have been surprised if Sarek ever did honestly smile, it would reveal his fangs!
Gilda! She’s a hoot. I have so many things I could say, but in today’s society we’re not allowed to kid about anything any more, so I shall not. Still – THAT explains so much.
You’re so funny. Just some aside thing and suddenly the angels sing that THERE is another huge clue. No neon arrows just blah blah blah THIS!!!!
This is so so so good. I LOVE M-W-F. It’s like that – is it Nordstrom commercial – So good so good so good – I got what I need and it feels so good.
Or for me, it’s probably more like Snoopy dancing, hugging himself!!!

Anyway, TYSM and I can’t wait till Friday’s installment!
(Do I continue a family tradition here? Is this the modern version of my parents when they were kids, lying around that big ol’ radio and listening to serial radio shows? LONG before TV was invented?)

Gilda is definitely another original character of mine I greatly appreciate. I can’t help seeing Gilda Radner when I write her.
LOL Sarek with fangs. That’s definitely an intriguing idea for next month’s theme.
I must admit Spock isn’t particularly worried about Sarek and/or T’Pring. I don’t blame him! LOL

Yes! When she’s on SNL as Emily Litella, going on and on about something and then being told she misunderstood the original thing she was wound up and ranting about. “Never mind!”
