Spock noticed Cadet Kirk’s absence from his class immediately. Of course he did. Kirk was his brightest student. It was nearly impossible not to notice him when he was there, as Spock certainly had from dat one, and now his empty seat definitely caught his attention.
But he was not alarmed. There were lots of reasons Kirk would not have attended the class and students often were absent.
When the course ended, however, he received notice on his Academy PADD that Cadet Kirk had withdrawn from the class.
Spock frowned. He was well aware that Kirk needed the class for his curriculum.
He had an appointment to meet a friend for tea, but he had no choice now but to postpone that meeting to a future date. He quickly sent the message and left the campus to seek out Cadet Kirk.
Kirk…Jim lived at a small apartment building a block from campus. He had explained to Spock that the apartment belonged to his mother’s sister, and she had allowed him to live there instead of him having to stay in a dorm.
Spock had been there recently. The night before in fact.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary when he arrived, so he knocked softly.
Only a moment later, Jim appeared at the door, opening it. He wore his red cadet’s uniform. He smiled.
“Hey.”
Spock frowned slightly. “Is everything all right?”
“Sure. Come in.” Jim seized his arm and pulled Spock inside the apartment. To Spock’s surprise, Jim pulled him into a passionate kiss, which admittedly confused him further. When Jim pulled away, he seemed as puzzled as Spock. “What’s wrong?”
“I came to inquire that of you. You did not attend class today and then you withdrew.”
For a moment, Jim stared at him. Then he smiled slightly. “Last night. What did it mean to you?”
“I do not understand.”
“Yeah, I’m beginning to get that. Spock, last night, it was amazing. More than I could have hoped for, and I guess, it was more than a one-night stand, right? I thought it was.”
Spock tilted his head. “Yes, of course.”
“Good. I’m surprised you don’t know this, but sleeping with your student is against regulations.”
Spock blinked and stared at him. He still had his arms around Jim and Jim was still clutching him. Neither of them made a move away, Spock had no desire to.
“I…had not yet thought of that.”
Jim grinned. “Last night really knocked you off your axis, huh?”
“Clearly. Then you withdrew from class for that reason.”
“Yep. Because I intend to, you know, keep sleeping with you, Professor. As often as possible.” Jim paused to give Spock a saucy look. “In fact, we should be doing that right now.”
Spock had to admit the idea had merit. But first. “Jim, you need that course for your command curriculum.”
“I know that. I’ve already talked with my academic advisor, and I can take it next semester with Lewiston.” Jim leaned in to kiss him. “See, I’ve thought of everything.”
“Mm.” Spock gave himself to the kiss. “You are clearly more with it than I.”
Jim laughed against his lips. “Clearly. I’ll take your lack of clarity as a compliment that I really knocked your socks off.”
Human idioms. Spock shook his head. “Quite so. In that case, as to your suggestion, we should indeed, be sleeping together this instant. Without the sleep part, though.”
“Now you’re speaking my language.” Jim reached beyond Spock to lock the apartment door. “Come, professor. Why don’t you get this cadet uniform off me?”
“My pleasure, Cadet Kirk. My pleasure.”

Gah I love them! Adorable. Spocks confusion is just too cute. And I love their banter. Well done!

Oh I LOVE the reverse here, with Jim the stickler for regs and Spock definitely knocked off his a..xis. Jim is so very confident, at least as far as their future is concerned.
I admit to wishing we could have the prequel – I’d love to know how last night actually came about.
*coughs
Anyway nice job and a great Monday morning wake-up call!

I enjoyed this flash. I have to admit you had me worried initially! I was thinking that something was wrong with Jim . But surprise, Jim is most the clear-headed one and definitely has the right priorities!!
I agree with j, I’d love to read a prequel. But then again, you know me , I’m always greedy for more Spirk!!! Thanks for sharing this!

the problem with a prequel is they clearly had a rather steamy encounter and I prefer for the most part (not always obviously) to keep things SFW here. 🙂
Thanks

BTW, was the weekend as horribly difficult as you thought it would be?
My sister did all my mother’s stuff – she didn’t offer anything to me or my son at all – she had a garage sale and what didn’t sell was trashed. I mean, I don’t blame her. The woman was awful to me. But she was a monster to my sister.
But with my dad’s, my sister got whatever she wanted and then it was 2 solid years before I could get rid of my dad’s stuff. Not that he had that much. But I gave all his clothes to the drama department of our middle school, and they wore the dog out of them, though I found I absolutely could not attend any of their performances where they wore his clothes or hats. That’s just me – my loss, I’m sure. But I bet if possible, my dad watched! He’d be thrilled his stuff still had a use. He was NOT a clothes horse. You’d be shocked how much he still had from like the 60s style. I’ve always felt so good about doing that. I did it with a lot of my own clothes too. Our Titanic float for homecoming one year, all my girls wore all my old long dresses! So fun!

She had a lot of stuff that’s for sure and we’ve gotten rid of most of it at this point, she still has a bunch of zip up jackets but those are in the garage right now and don’t need to be sorted in order to get the wood floors put in to the rooms, so we are leaving those for now. What makes me more sad than sorting through her stuff is how few people attended her funeral. There weren’t many there and yeah some was because of the pandemic but also I guess when you are nearly 95 and have outlived most everyone else, it’s hard to drum up people to attend the service. Sad though.
At Christmas we will be going through some of the stuff she liked for the tree, etc and we are liable to get rid of some of that because to put it honestly she did NOT have the same taste as the rest of us, lol. We will keep some for sentimental value but some is just going to be donated or chucked in the trash. But that’s all in the garage and it’s far too hot still to sort through that!
That’s excellent that your drama department was able to make use of your dad’s clothes!
I’ll probably never understand your mother. Or your sister for that matter.

Yep – my parents outlived just about all their friends AND family. The ones left did come, more than I thought – but that’s because my sister wanted the funeral the next day, and nobody had time to get there from other places. I mean, if she could have had the funeral the afternoon after he died that morning, she would have. She just couldn’t handle any of it. It was breaking her.
But yeah, I think I’ve told you before, I have my grandmother’s old beat up METAL suitcase. And it was literally FULL of funeral pamphlets from funerals they had attended of family and friends from their childhood even. That was the saddest thing I’ve ever seen. It was awful! And of course, except for those of the closest family members, I trashed them because I didn’t know any of those people, and no need to keep them. I don’t understand why THEY kept them. 😦

I’m behind in reading! I’m sorry!
This was so good! And glad Jim had a plan so they could see each other 🙂
