And we come to the end of the September Academy Flashes
Spock had never picked up a hitchhiker in his life and he wasnāt about to start. Or so he thought.
It was pouring rain and he was driving his hover car on the way back to San Francisco from a smaller city outside of it where he had been visiting a friend.
Well, it had been a booty call. If he were honest and Spock always was. But that friend was leaving Earth tomorrow and Spock would not see him again.
He saw a figure of a male walking by the side of the road in the rain with his head down and huddled into a barely acceptable coat. The road was desolate and there were no other cars around, so Spock wasnāt sure where the man had come from, but he found himself slowing down, though he felt foolish doing so.
He pressed the button that would roll down the window but he kept his thumb near so he could easily raise it again if need be. It was phaser proof.
āDo you require assistance?ā Spock asked.
The man lifted his head and Spock spotted the bluest of eyes. His face was wet, but for some reason it didnāt seem like it all came from the rain. The eyes were red rimmed.
āThank God,ā he said. āI thought no one would ever help me. I need to get to San Francisco. My bike broke down miles ago. Iāve been walking ever since.ā
And Spock recognized him then. Pike had spoken of him and Spock had done his research after he learned about him.
Spock made a decision. āGet in.ā
He saw the gratitude in the manās face as he quickly got in the passenger side next to Spock.
āJim Kirk.ā
āSpock. I know who you are.ā
āYou do?ā
āYes. Captain Pike has told me about you andā¦we are roommates.ā
Kirk stared at him as Spock began to drive toward San Francisco. āWow. You-youāre the Vulcan everyone was talking about. Youāre at the Academy?ā
āI will be when the semester begins. And yesā¦I am.ā
āAnd we have the same dorm?ā
āEvidently.ā
Kirk smiled. āMy luck is improving. Thank you. For picking me up. I was getting pretty despondent thinking Iād never find civilization.ā
āYou are welcome.ā Spock nodded. āAnd as it happens, we are quite literally, going to the same place.ā
Jim leaned back a little in the seat, closed his eyes, and smiled. Then he opened them as Spock got nearer to the city.
Jim leaned forward in excitement. āAre you hungry? Iām hungry!ā
Spockās lips twitched. āI could eat.ā
āPull over there! Thereās a restaurant.ā
And Spock did. This seemed clearly to be the beginning of something. He simply did not know what.
Coming up for October we will see Harvest/Autumn themed flashes, maybe some sort of spooky…we shall see.

I love the chance meeting. I love even more than I could feel their instant connection from the words. Your brain never ceases to amaze me. The ways you connect them, and the ability to make us feel it.
I think theyāre going to have a great time rooming together;)

I totally agree with Kris. This was an unexpected meeting, but still they just instantly click. We all know they belong together, but you have a way to make it believable anywhere. I love the idea of then rooming together.
I am looking forward to what October will bring :).

I agree with the others. Even though you’ve written these two for years, with each new story, it’s like it’s a brand new occurrence that never happened before and my stomach still gets that funny feeling, wanting to know more. It feels silly after I’ve read literally hundreds of your stories, and yet – there it is. Right on time and dependable as….well, the sun, I guess, as not much else in this world IS dependable any more. And that’s what keeps us coming back day after day, week, month, year…
Great job.
And the pic – with that hole suddenly appearing through the storm clouds, the sun just about to come beaming through on these two guys.

Yes I loved that picture when I chose it. It’s appropriate for the story due to the storm, it’s just vaguely ominous with the dark clouds as I switch to October, and yet it is full of hope with the breaking sun coming through.
I have literally written these guys meeting for the first time hundreds of times and yet for me, they are joy each time. I hope that continues! ā¤

You know, Iv, this constant begging for more with almost every single fic you write for us here would stop if you’d just start feeding us light little crap shorties on your blog and save the good stuff for AO3. But nooooOOOOOOoooo! You always give us your best on these blog flashes! And leave us hungry – no, STARVING – for more.
I mean, come on! You can’t blame us for wanting-needing more. I mean, OMG THEY WERE ROOMMATES!!!
You gotta face it and admit – this is ALL your fault that we always beg you for more. If you’d just back off your quality a bit here on the blog, that would quit happening!!! šāļø

HA! I know and I do it to myself too. Oh I like these two, they need more, and ta da, they get it. While I was working on the fics for October wondering what to write about I went, oh wait, let’s write another one with the roommates! HA HA. I suspect they may appear in November too.

I loved this encounter in the storm. Spock who never stops for hitchhikers, feels he needs to stop for Jim. They are. just meant to be together. Their attraction is certain. Love the idea that they are roommates. Iām definitely looking forward to seeing more of these two. ā¤
