The door slammed shut behind Jim making him wince. He didn’t miss the way Spock’s back stiffened around the shoulders.
“Uh, sorry. Didn’t know it was going to do that.” He sidled up beside Spock, who was looking out at the yard, though Jim wasn’t really sure what there was to look at. Nothing but dirt for miles.
This place was…desolate to say the least. And the sooner they could get off this wreck of a planet and back up to the Enterprise, the better.
“You…okay?”
“Of course, Captain.”
Whenever Spock used that snooty tone, well, Jim was torn between two things. Being turned on, okay, well, with Spock there was always an element of that, and knowing he was in big fat trouble.
“What they said in there.”
“Is this when you tell me they didn’t mean it?” Spock’s voice was as cold as a glacier.
“No. They meant it. And it was cruel and nasty and unacceptable. I won’t tolerate xenophobia or their disrespect to you.”
Spock turned to look at him. “Captain…”
Jim shook his head. “Every one of them is going to have a mark on their record. If we get out of this.”
“We will get out of this.”
He smiled a little. “I know. And the first Space Station we can reach, I’m getting rid of Hanson. I’ve already told him.”
“The appearance of…”
“This has nothing to do with our personal relationship, Spock. You’re my first officer as well as my science officer. A brilliant member of Starfleet. You deserve respect and nothing less.”
“Very well.”
Jim put his hand on Spock’s arm. “And this is coming from me…Jim. The guy who is crazy in love with you. I’m really sorry they said that shit to you and hurt you. I really want to kick their asses.”
Spock’s lips turned upward just a bit. “T’hy’la.”
“No, I mean it. Fuckers. I wish I could take every one of them out. But I can’t.”
Spock nodded. “I know.”
“When we get home, I want to wrap myself around you and hold you forever.” He paused. “Or at least until we have to go on shift.”
“I would like that very much,” Spock said softly. “I am used to behavior such as theirs.”
“I know. And I hate that you have to be used to it.” Jim put his hand on Spock’s face. “Let’s get to work. I can’t wait to get off this rock.”
“Agreed, Captain.”
And they turned to go back into the shack to figure out how to return to the Enterprise.

Oh man. You just… gah. I love them. I just love them. That unwavering support and the love and just the morality. That’s exactly how it should be.

How dare those bastards talk bad about our favorite Vulcan! No one should be used to such behaviors 😦
I’m glad Jim is there for him, to stand up for him, to love him ❤
thank you for sharing this flash

My blood boils that anyone would say or even think anything bad about Spock, as I think he’s about the most super superior being (albeit character) of my lifetime – in every way.

Yep and you know it was inspired by the Gaileo episode where they are all horrible to Spock. This time I made sure OUR Jim was there with him to tell them all off.

THANK YOU! They were dreadful. ALL of them really except Scotty. And as his second in command, he didn’t stand up for the commander of the mission either. He didn’t badmouth him, but he didn’t give orders for the others to stand down either.

I read this story and immediately thought of that TOS episode. The crew were entirely disrespectful of Spock throughout. Not Starfleet officer behavior to say the least.
In this flash, I’m wondering just what was said and did Jim just overhear it from another room?… Or was he present when the others were disrespectful towards Spock?
I’m glad Spock has Jim’s support always, just as Jim has Spock’s when he needs it. I just want to hug them both!!

There was no excuse for their behavior in that episode, and in my opinion, Bones was the worst one, as he is supposed to be one of the top officers as CMO, and at times, like in Amok Time, is thought of as a friend. And this is far from the only episode Bones is an absolute dreadful ass to Spock. Like DeForest Kelley, but AOS Bones was a much nicer Bones
Anyway, for this flash, I imagined that Jim overheard what they said to Spock. I don’t think Spock, even as his husband, would admit to Jim willingly what was said to him, so I imagine Jim is out of the room, or they think he is, and overhears what they said to them. Bullies often hide their behavior when others are around, especially in this case, their commanding officer.

And Roddenberry was in the military and knew military protocol and chain of command directly, yet – here is his episode.
The lower officers would have immediately been court martialed for insubordination, but the doctor, as CMO and having literally the power to override other senior officers in time of medical crisis, would have been court martialed, kicked out, and probably imprisoned at hard labor. The military NEVER puts up with this stuff, because insubordination can cause needless death. And then if the superior officer screwed up, there is a process to punish that person if need be.
But everyone else on that shuttle had the #1 goal of obeying their superior.
Just like as a teacher, I know my goal is to teach, obviously.
But the unwritten #1 goal was to keep our students safe under any circumstances – to sacrifice our own life if need be to save as many of them as possible. We all knew that was job ONE.

And Tholian Web. I mean, I still could watch that show if not for Bones. I know you have to have an antagonist. But good grief – he’s like a monster from a C horror movie. Curmudgeon I can handle. F******** S*** I just can’t. He’s just unwatchably horrible.

I like Tholian Web, but yeah Bones is a jerk in that one, and the one with the OK Corral and others too, I think they did an injustice to the sweet guy Kelley was, but part of it was the fault of fans who were amused by the “banter” between Spock and McCoy. Even in a fun episode like Trouble with Tribbles, Bones had to say something nasty. It’s supposed to be amusing, but to many of us, it isn’t

(But I’d give real money to know what Spock was thinking after he told everyone at Jim’s memorial service to consider what the captain was to each in his own thoughts.)
