It felt good to be waiting to meet with Jim, Leonard thought, as he waited in his seat at the restaurant heβd arranged to meet Jim in while Leonard was briefly in San Francisco.
He hadnβt seen Jim since the last time heβd been there, a year ago, when Leonard had left Starfleet to return to Georgia to set up private practice and finally stay grounded on Earth, where he could attempt to have a relationship with his daughter.
But heβd come to San Francisco to pick up some medical equipment he needed in person, and honestly, it had made for the perfect excuse to catch up with Jim.
Just then the door to the restaurant flew open and Jim breezed in, literally, as it was quite windy outside, and his friend came in with a gust.
Jim was laughing, his face lit up by a smile, which was great to see, honestly.
Leonard stood and motioned him over, pulling Jim into a tight hug. βGod, itβs great to see you.β
βAnd you.β
βSit.β Leonard gestured. βWow, you lookββ
βFat? Ugly?β Jim joked.
βGorgeous, actually.β
And it was true. Jim looked well rested, tanned, his blue eyes sparkling. He wore a burgundy long-sleeved T-shirt that seemed molded to him, and his slacks, black dress ones, looked pressed and expensive.
Jim laughed again, and Leonard was struck how he seemedβ¦happy. βIf I didnβt know better, Iβd think you were flirting with me.β
βYou do know better,β Leonard said, dryly. βI took the liberty of ordering us a bottle of wine. Should be here any time.β
βFantastic. And speaking of, you look pretty good yourself. Leaving Starfleet agrees with you.β
βAre the rumors true?β
βTrue?β
At the moment the wine sommelier arrived with their bottle and for the next five minutes they were occupied with tasting and then pouring glasses for each of them.
βBack to rumors,β Leonard said. βIβve heard through sources that theyβre finally going to make you a full admiral, Commodore.β
βOh that.β
He snorted. βYou say that like itβs nothing. Youβre a big deal, Jim.β
βIf you say so. And yeah, I guess they are true. Iβm torn. Part of me wishes I could go up again, command of a shipββ
βTen years wasnβt enough?β
βOh, hardly. Anyway, I guess they want old men like me to be in charge of the brash young ones.β
βWhich you were at one time.β
Jim sipped his wine. βMm. Great choice.β
βGlad you approve. Still in that apartment?β
βSure am.β
βBig place for just you.β Leonard shook his head.
βItβs not that big and who says itβs just me?β
Leonard lowered his glass to the table. βDamn! Youβre with someone?β
Jim blushed. βWell.β
βNo wonder you look so damn happy!β Leonard grinned and slapped the table. βThat is good news. Great news in fact. I never thought youβd settle down, Jimmy boy. When did this happen?β
βWell.β
βIs that all you can say? Within the last year, Iβd guess.β
Jim shifted. βLittle longer.β
Leonard frowned. βYou were with her when I saw you last year?β
Jim grimaced.
βLonger?β
Jim nodded.
βButβ¦wait. You were together on the Enterprise?β
βYeah.β
βHow in the world were you with someone on the Enterprise and I didnβt know?β
Jim was bright red. βWe kept it a secret, Bones. For, um, for a while, actually.β
βHow long?β Leonard asked, dumbfounded.
βLast three years of the mission.β
βPlus this whole last year?β
Jim nodded.
Leonard felt hurt. He supposed he didnβt have a right, butβ¦he did. βWhy wouldnβt you tell me? Was she an ensign?β
βNo. God. No. Nothing like that. For a long time, we just, it was so weird for us, everything, and I wasnβt even sure if I could get it right, Bones. And then we did and it was so private and intimate between us that for a long time neither of us wanted to spoil it.β
βOkay. Okay. Maybe. I get that. But what about the last year?β
Jim winced. βWell. Um. Actually, Bones, who Iβm with, well, I included them for dinner. And uhββ
The door opened to the restaurant and Leonard turned around to look. Standing there, looking windswept, was Spock.
For a moment, Leonardβs brain didnβt catch up, and he wondered what Spock was doing there, and what a coincidence that he would be at the same restaurant he and Jim met at, but then Spock looked in their direction and walked toward them.
And it all made a strange sort of sense that he didnβt even think about before, but now, it was all he could think of. Yes. Of course. Spock. βBones,β Jim said with a smile as he took Spockβs hand. βSpock is my husband.β

Not just space husbands but secret space husbands!
Fantastic. And Bones is right. Of course it makes sense once you think about it.

No shouting it from the rooftops, huh, Jim? haha
I had to wait all day to get to read, and wow, it’s even sweeter than I had hoped. Well worth the wait, but I HATE waiting!
Thank you for writing this. Feel free to add on, at any time! π

This one was stuck in jail too. Maybe because it’s not recognizing your user name? Not sure! ha. I should have looked. I just thought you hadn’t commented! Bad me

I don’t know, since I’ve been using weird user name things for weeks and weeks, and it usually works fine.

Iβve never seen an option to change my user name. Unless thatβs something you can do on a computer. Iβm only on my phone.
However every comment requires me to enter my email and user name. It wasnβt like that originally.

Yeah, I only use computer. I would add a screen shot to show you what I see and how I change it, but I don’t know how to do that, an ability Iv keeps closely guarded, the bum. (on ao3, though my youngest friend can do it there too, and nothing I try works. I’m beginning to think it’s me. hahaha). But yeah, like below this there are 3 lines. Top is my email, 2nd is user name. I just delete that and put in what I want. And the 3rd has my supposed webpage which I not only don’t have but have never seen.
