Some Hope

Yesterday was Giving Tuesday. I’ve spent so much money lately, I felt like I had to do something. My employer had a giving campaign where they would match your donation, but it had to be one of the “approved charities”. I wanted to give to the LA Mission in Skidrow who feed the homeless and the Ventura County Rescue Mission in my county who do the same. So I donated a dollar each pay period for the next year to each one of them. It’s not a lot but it’s something.

Then I got an email from Amazon saying you could use Alexa (Echo) to donate to Toys for Tots and Amazon would match that donation. So I donated a toy and a recording of Dax Shepard told me I basically donated two toys since Amazon matched. Thank you, Dax.

Anyway, I tell you this not to brag or anything but to bring up a news article I saw this morning that made yours truly cry like a blubbering fool.

So Cal Businessman Donates

Check it out. It’s short.

I have no clue what political party this man belongs to and I don’t care. He’s a fucking fantastic human being. He didn’t have to do this, but he wanted to do something. And God, those people need it.

There is still good out there. And that gives me hope. If only a little

Sunday Ramblings, 11/25/2018

Last night I went with the family to a Christmas Lights Display at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library that happens to be in our city. Above are some pictures from the displays. It cost about $17 to get in for this and I thought, that while nice, it was overpriced for how many lights they had.

My week off is over and it’s back to work tomorrow. Had a much better Thanksgiving this year than last and so far (knock on wood) I am not sick.

Decorated our place for Christmas this year all day Friday. I do mean all day. Next weekend we do the family’s house.

I’ve written a few more flash fics to get ahead on them. I’m working on a Christmasy one now that I expect to finish today and that will get me ahead through December 14th if I get it done. Yay!

Unfortunately, I have not finished my Christmas fic but am determined to do so this week. I don’t know when I will post it, but it will be ready when I do.

I did start a new One-Shot Part 6 on AO3 for those who didn’t get the notice. There are still issues with it.

I updated The Experiment and Hello Darkness, My Old Friend this week. Since I am skipping The Sight for now, next up is Nine Lives. But I’d like to wait for the Christmas story to be finished first. I am ignoring the T’hy’la bang story for now but I will be getting to that again very soon.

The damn wind is back again today. We’ve had chilly mornings though. There’s a chance of rain on Wednesday and Thursday, so we shall see. The other day it did rain overnight.

I started my Christmas movie viewing on Thanksgiving with Miracle on the 34th Street. I also have started to listen to Christmas music. Funny story. I wanted the song, Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helms added to my Amazon Music Christmas Playlist on Prime. Somehow when I added it, it added three greatest hits albums by him to my Music. I had like 68 songs. I was like WTF. It was a total pain getting them back off, let me tell you!

Anyway, that is it for now. Have a great week.

Ramblings, November 19, 2018

As you know, I have this week off.

Did some cleaning over the weekend to get ready for TG on Thursday. I got Bitter Frost updated despite AO3 refusing to tell anyone. Funny thing was it said on their twitter that emails were delayed but hadn’t disappeared altogether. BS

I have some errands and shopping I want to do today. But I am also working on my Flash Fic for Friday. This week, other than the Flash, I want to finish the Christmas story, so I can call it done, and move on. I know how I want to end it, it just has to get there!

Wednesday I am making a pumpkin dessert for TG. If it turns out okay I will post a picture of it.

When I was young, I used to do all the Black Friday shopping thing. Well, I never got up at 5 or anything, but I would go shopping that day. These days I do most of my shopping online or on different days if I am going to, say Target (my favorite store, ha ha). I doubt that pattern will change this year. I don’t like crowded stores. We went to Costco on Saturday and it was packed with people who wanted to run you over with their damn cart.

Sunday the 25th is decorating day here at my house. One month exactly! I’m excited to have it done. I am Christmas nut, I know.

When I was a kid, long long ago, but not in a galaxy far away, we used to go to mass. Anyway, I loved going to midnight mass. These days half the churches have done away with it and only like one of every five churches have actual midnight mass, around here anyway, but when I was a kid it was a big thing and I loved it. For me, it was such quintessential Christmas. Even as I became a little older my sister and I would go when no one else would anymore. Mass would be standing room only so we’d get there early and I loved the pomp and circumstances of it all. The whole ceremonial thing.

Though I am no longer practicing any religion, I remember that part of it very fondly. There’s a saying I think rather applies to me. You can take the person out of the Catholic but you can’t take the Catholic out of the person. Yep.

Anyway, even now my favorite time is Christmas. I’m like a kid, still. I even have a Christmas playlist on my phone to listen to as soon as Thanksgiving is over.

I know some people in the Star Trek fandom get offended that people write Christmas stories about Kirk and Spock, because Shatner and Nimoy were both Jewish. I’ve even seen people complain about it. But my take is that was the actors, not the characters. Roddenberry was an atheist. Kirk and Spock did not disclose their religion, though Spock, often dismissed the idea of a deity. I don’t write TOS Christmas stories, and Quinto is not Jewish, and Pine is only part, and speaks of how he really doesn’t follow any religion, plus I think he has celebrated Christmas as a child. Anyway, it really doesn’t matter, I don’t get into too much religion, though I do reference Amanda being Jewish. My point is, it’s fiction, a fandom written about characters that don’t even exist, so if I want to write Christmas, then I am going to do so.

I hope everyone here in the US has a wonderful Thanksgiving. And everyone elsewhere, if you are out there, has a great week.

STThanks

The fire near us is now at 57% containment and that’s good news even though it burned over 504 structures. Up north, the “camp” fire destroyed an entire town. What a horrible couple of weeks it’s been for everyone here. I hope the winds leave us alone for a while, we need a break.

The weather report coming up for the next week or some promises a mild Thanksgiving holiday, which is very much welcome. As I have said I start my week off as the day ends tomorrow and I look forward to it even though I have many household chores.

My writing goal is to finish the Christmas story (still unnamed). I am writing the sex part at the moment. Once that story is finished I will feel much relief.

I saw on the news today something sad. A while back there was this big story about a “GoFundMe” account set up for a homeless man after he gave a woman his last $20 so she could get home. People donated all kinds of money. Now it turns out the whole thing was likely a scam to get people’s money. What kind of horrible people take advantage of warm-hearted generous people like that to steal their money and good will? These people need to go to jail and I hope they do. The moral? I say, sadly, don’t give money to any of these things, unless YOU personally know their circumstances.

Leaves

Okay, so this past weekend I updated both When I Loved You and Didn’t We Almost Have it All. And did a one-shot called Seriously. Not bad. Wasn’t sure I was going to get to update anything this weekend.

During the week I will try to get an update to my Kirk family story, The Ties That Bind. One may wonder where Spock is in this story. He’s coming. I promise. That’s the last one that hasn’t been updated since September. So I’m making progress.

Where My Demons Hide comes after that and I am on the course for the end for that one. I hope to have it finished soonish. Maybe when I get to it, I will just write it to the end. Maybe not. Because, I also need to finish the Christmas story and get serious on the T’hy’la Bang story.

The good news for those last two is they will be finished when posted. A really hard thing for me folks! HA.

Wednesday is Outlaw King day, so that means a certain actor’s penis. Yes, I will be watching. Duh. The movie is apparently violent but we shall see how that goes. I just want to see him, beard and all, LOL.

No movie this week as there’s nothing really out we want to see. I did finally see Halloween. I liked it. There were some head scratching moments, I will not deny. But for the most part, it was decent. Not It decent, but decent. Speaking of King, I also saw they are remaking Pet Semetary. I swear they can’t come up with anything new to make.

As I write this, my lower back is killing me. It’s hell getting old, you know?

Thursday, November 01, Ramblings

First up, I have posted my Old Married Spirk story, A Beginning. I know today was the first day for posting, but I had it done, and decided why wait? I don’t mind being first. It is what it is. I hope you like it. The Original Series is not something I write a lot of.

This week I also posted a Halloween story and the next chapter of The Mysterious One, as well as My Devotion. That’s definitely it for the week.

I am returning to working on my Christmas story which is up over 8,000 words already. Once that is done, I will need to get more work done on my T’hy’la Bang story coming in January, as well as everything else I need to do!

I hope to have a pretty quiet weekend ahead of me. Might do some cleaning. We are hosting Thanksgiving this year and the place has a lot that needs to be done before it is clean enough for company. Fortunately I have taken the entire week of Thanksgiving off. I think I have a wine party the weekend before that but that’ll be fine.

We got exactly one child last night, our next door neighbor. Townhome and condo complexes really are ridiculous.

I’ve already voted because I vote by mail though the election is this coming Tuesday. We also change to standard time this weekend and I say, bleh. I hate it dark by 5:00. HATE IT.

Autumn

I didn’t get to see Halloween today. I got a new laptop and Fedex wouldn’t deliver it without a signature so I ended up staying home. But M went to work. The two main freeways near us conspired so that there was no way for us to make a 5 O’Clock movie. He called me at 5:00 still in the city we both work from, some 30 miles away from home. Ah. well. I will try again next week!

I am in a serious funk. I did write a little more on my OMS story today but nothing else and no matter what I looked at I just felt nothing. I did get Where Do People Like us Float updated so you can expect that on Thursday morning. But otherwise…nothing. I feel bad, but not bad enough to force it I guess.

Friday and Saturday are filled up with that friend we are helping, so I am greatly looking forward to Sunday when I can finally relax.

We just had to pay a whopping property tax bill and everything is so damn expensive. Plus I am so sick of politics and our president and so many other things. It’s just so fucking depressing.

So anyway, please forgive me for not updating anything. I’ll keep trying.

peanutsH

So, anyway, as you no doubt know by now, I considered deleting The Sight as I have lost my inspiration for it. I was going to just delete it without word but at the last minute decided to ask about it. I was kind of surprised I had a more positive reaction to the story and more people wanting me to keep it to get to again some day then I had anticipated. So, for now, it stays.

I was able to get the update for Nine Lives done. Next I need to write the last chapter for my Professor Spock conclusion so that I can have it done in plenty of time to post it on Halloween. That’s what I intend to do next.

I think after that I will be updating My Devotion but not sure when I will get to it. This is a pretty busy week. Tomorrow we are seeing the new Halloween (got my tickets already). Thursday is our WW and Saturday we are helping a friend with her festival appearance in Ventura. That’s pretty much an all day thing as it goes until 5. Our friend is going to a Halloween party after that but we are going to dinner after ourselves.

I also need to finish my OMS story for November. I have quite a bit done on it now and I can post it any time in November. I also need to finish the Christmas story. And as I indicated in comments, I have signed up for the T’hy’la Bang which posts in January. I think I have an idea but it would involve a lot of sex so we shall see.

I think that’s it for this week.

Ramblings of the Tired One, 10/18/2018

You may have noticed that I don’t have a new chapter up of Where Do People Like Us Float. I meant to. I even started the new re-written chapter but I never quite got it finished and I just didn’t have the energy to finish it up last night, so I do apologize. When I do get it done, I will go ahead and post it.

I did update The Mysterious One. Next up should be The Sight and Nine Lives. Whenever I get them done.

I watched Young Frankenstein last night instead of writing. I plan to take it very very easy this weekend. I do have some shopping to do but for the most part I am going to do my best to be a shut-in. I’m a little burned out and a little depressed. It’ll pass.

Supposed to be hot this weekend. Sigh.
