Ramblings, September 01, 2019

We had a smashing time at the Hollywood Bowl and John Williams appeared himself. A spry 87 year old.

Of course probably his most famous music is Star Wars (even though he also wrote ET, Jaws, and Raiders of the Lost Ark among many others), and so naturally all the Star Wars Geeks were there with their light sabers.

A fun time was had by all. And we may have gotten a little smashed. I have a big time hangover.

As you know I went a little nuts and started Cadet Ashayam on AO3. Hope to get another chapter up this coming week as well as Didn’t We Almost Have it All, The Space in My Bed, and we will see what else.

It’s hot here but at least we aren’t facing a hurricane. My friend J keeps sending me stuff on Earthquakes, the latest one telling me that a previously thought dormant faultline under LA is not so dormant! Good times. It’s all kind of fascinating really. There’s so much we don’t know about this planet.

Still working on getting the garage door fixed. It’s a long and developing project/thing. Hopefully by the end of September we will have a lovely new garage door! Sheesh.

I still have flashes and OMS etc to write too but with my head pounding today who knows. We also invited the cousin over for shrimp kabobs later.

Anyhow, that’s it in my world right now. Hope yours is stable, cool and healthy

In an Effort to Keep You Informed

Tomorrow, the next chapter of The Vulcan Who Fell to the Earth (Stranded 3) will be going up.

Friday is one of my absolute favorite flashes I have written lately (maybe ever). Had so much fun with it.

Then comes up the long weekend. Hollywood Bowl is Saturday and family stuff and chilling and dealing with all the garage stuff. I am going to be working on getting November Friday Flashes settled. So don’t expect much in the way of updates over the weekend.

Next up in updates for next week are Didn’t We Almost Have it All and The Space in My Bed. Friday, September 06th begins the start of September’s Song Flashes. Wednesday will also have the continuation of the Wednesday flashes.

I had thoughts of taking a different walk around for my Walk With Me post for August, but I just didn’t get the chance. Life got in the way. I did do a post earlier in the month, so we’ll see what I can do with the walks in September.

Also in the month of September I will be experimenting with cheesecake recipes. (Plain New York Style this time)

In general what do I have to do writing-wise, I still need to finish my OMS story (don’t expect anything long folks) so it’s ready for November, and get cracking on that Christmas Jim/Prime story. I still haven’t decided if there will be other Christmas/Holiday related fare other than a few flashes. We’ll see if inspiration strikes. There may be a sequel in there somewhere for How to Survive the Winter Break With a Vulcan Instructor.

PS. My Devotion was updated

Happy 39th 08/26/2019

As some of you know, our garage was broken into on Friday while we were at work. The garage is separate from our townhome, fortunately, but they did take a few things, including an unopened portable AC, as well as breaking our garage door opener mechanism. We’d been delaying getting one of those new sliding metal garage doors and openers that most of our complex had, with us having the original wooden door, but looks like we are no longer able to delay that. It was a cost thing, but God or the burglar, made that decision for us. So this week we are dealing with getting estimates, HOA approval etc. We had a very nice police officer out Friday night, but he admitted there was little they could really do since there are no cameras and all that. I suspect that someone targeted the AC because nothing else of value was really taken. It was a break in, grab and go kind of thing. But definitely makes you disappointed in your fellow human beings.

In other news, we are still celebrating M’s birthday. We had a get together at a friend’s on Saturday and Sunday night it’s a dinner with the family at a nice restaurant. M’s birthday is actually Tuesday but it’s easier to celebrate on a weekend. Plus when we get home from work Tuesday, one of the garage door people will be by to give us an estimate on everything.

Coming up for updates this week should be The Fling, Stranded 3 and The Mysterious One. I love the flash coming on Friday very much. And I have a new flash series coming on Wednesday too.

This coming weekend in front of us is Labor Day, of course. We are going to the Hollywood Bowl Saturday the 31st for the John Williams Music thing. Should be fun. Then is the three day weekend! And September. Busy times, my friends.

Tomorrow is Chris Pine’s birthday, so I am including a fan video someone made a few years back. Fun!

Ramblings August 18, 2019

At Work….but this is one of my favorite trees, a Crepe Myrtle, their flowers range from light pink like this to a very dark magenta color (I call those ones Crunch Berry Trees after Cap’n Crunch >
Looking back at the neighborhood as we take an evening walk

My favorite season is arriving in the stores!

Coming up this week a new chapter of Our So-Called Life, another chapter of The Fling, another chapter of Orchestral Maneuvers, another chapter of Stranded 3, and of course the Friday Flash.

Will there be a Wednesday Flash? Only the Shadow Knows…

Friday night I did my first workout at the gym. Looking forward to more.

An August Walk With Me

There will likely be another one later in August but here’s the one from today.

The Hot Zone! Ha, actually this was from work yesterday. It’s very hot there in August. Usually 90-100 every day. Which is why I call it Woodland Hells (it’s Hills). We move from this location in late September to another location in Woodland Hells.
Before 8, the park is shaded
Purple flowering bush in the park, sometimes there are rabbits hiding in there but I couldn’t find any this morning to take a picture of them. Rascally things.
The trees in the park are full and leafy now but come October, it should be a different story!
The playground is empty now, the families don’t come out this early, but I do because it’s going to be beastly hot later!
Approaching the bridge leading out of the park
The toddler playground, also empty so far in the morning

Brief Rambles

Lazy Luna

A few brief things. You may see a new color scheme on here. Not sure yet if I like it so I might change it again. Right now it looks…bloody.

I’ve written my first two song flash fics for September and scheduled them. Two left to go. For October I might do pumpkin/autumn/Halloween themed flashes, but don’t worry you scaredy cats, I’m not going to get too scary. After all, you may recall Professor Spock began on Halloween several years ago now.

Haven’t decided on November yet, but when I get to December, I bet you can guess what they will be related to! HA

I updated the Pinto story, Orchestral Maneuvers. Again, there’s a Pinto flash on Friday. I may just hit those other two song fics before tackling Transfer Request, so that’s liable to push that out until next week.

It’s 101 today. Yeah. So.

Next week begins August already, if you can believe it. I’ll try to do a walk with me for that month without dying from heatstroke, but I might actually change locations for it, so you can see something different.

July Walk With Me (final one probably?) July 14, 2019

I braved heatstroke for this but here you go.

At least the hot sky is blue
Back in June I posted a picture of these trees in all their purply bloom. Loot at them now!!
Some months back I posted a picture of the cloth hanging off the freeway that kind of looked like a ghost. You can see that the ghost is still there. M jokes with people that we live under the freeway. Makes us sound like trolls, actually. Maybe we are!!
The shady park
Ugly Hedges
Not a sign of water in the wash now!
Love these big big trees. Wonder how long they’ve been alive. Longer than us surely.
I just love how this house is elevated about the house below it.
You’ve seen these guys before but thought you might like to see how they are still going strong
Italian Cypresses

I hate those trees. Ugly. Not to be confused with a Monterey Cypress (see below). They are all over here and I hate them. They are hideous and filled with vermin. Years ago my friend’s dad, alive back then, looked at the ones in his backyard (he was the original owner of the house) and he said, what asshole planted those? He was the asshole of course. Quite the character he was. He sort of looked like a cross between Tom Bosley and Paul Sorvino. Anyway, he’s long gone now but he’s one of those characters in life that you never ever forget. It’s amazing how people come and go in our lives, either because they pass on or because our circumstances in life change. Anyway, M hates olives and our friend’s dad, as a good Italian, loved them and he would chase M around with jars of olives, going but you have to try these. M would try them, of course, and go, nope, still gross. HA HA

Be careful of Sharks, they pop up where you least expect them
Love this house. Loved it more before they put in that astro turf that’s in their front yard.

Last night one of the houses in the neighborhood was having a party and they hired a Mariachi Band. It sounded like a blast. Alas they didn’t invite me.
