Happy Flag Day June 14, 2021 (Flash)

You’re a grand old flag
You’re a high-flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave
You’re the emblem of
The land I love
The home of the free and the brave
Ev’ry heart beats true
Under red, white and blue
Where there’s never a boast or brag
But should old acquaintance be forgot
Keep your eye on the grand old flag

If you are looking for the main Birthday story, Longer (based on the song by Dan Fogelberg, please go here.

“So,  your birthday is Flag Day, huh?”

Spock heard the flirtatious tone in his mate’s voice even from his position by the door of the drinking establishment. He’d come looking for Jim.

Jim sat on a bar stool at the bar, next to a pretty blonde woman with a rather extravagant hairdo piled atop her head.

“Flag Day?”

“Oh. Well. An old Earth thing. Many years ago, centuries really, Iowa was part of the United States of America,” Jim said, cheerfully. “They had a holiday back then on this day.”

“Ohhh.” The blonde was leaning toward him, smiling brightly.

Spock sighed and approached.

Jim glanced at Spock, his smile not dimming even a little. “Hello there, Mister Spock. This here is…what did you say your name was?”

“I didn’t,” she replied, coyly.

“Birthday Flag Girl then. It’s her birthday. I bought her a drink.”

“I see that. Happy Birthday.”

“Thank you,” she said.

“This is my esteemed second officer.”

“First.”

Jim nodded.  “And also a big pain in the a—”

“I am also the captain’s husband,” Spock interrupted coolly.

The blonde’s mouth pulled into an “O” shape.

“That too,” Jim acknowledged with a wave that nearly knocked him off the stool. Spock steadied him.

“And if you will excuse us, ma’am, I will be extracting him from this current situation.”

She shrugs a little and smiles, rather apologetically. “Can’t blame a girl, can you?”

Spock nods. “I cannot. But I assure you that he’s twice the big pain in the ass as he was about to say I was.”

She laughed at that. She really was attractive. But she could not have Jim. No one could but Spock. He was Spock’s “problem” to deal with.

Spock helped Jim to slide himself off the stool and he held onto Spock with a firm but trembling grip. The blonde woman excused herself then.

“Happy birthday, Flag Girl” Jim yelled after her.

Spock turned Jim toward the exit door but Jim wasn’t moving.

“You still mad at me?” Jim asked, gazing at Spock from beneath his lashes. Unfortunately for Spock he was adorable and sexy and Spock could not resist him.

“I am not. But you did over indulge. Come. It’s time to return to your farmhouse.”

“Not mine,” Jim mumbled. But this time he allowed Spock to take him to the door and outside. “I hate Riverside.”

“I know, ashayam. We leave tomorrow.”

Jim smiled. “Yeah. Love you.”

Spock returns the smile and the sentiment.

“Captain, it was never my intention to—”

Jaw tight, body rigid, his captain glared daggers of ice at Spock. “I don’t want to hear it, Commander. Get out.”

Spock stood just inside the door to Jim’s quarters. That his captain was extremely angry he made very clear.

“But—”

“I said get out. That’s an order.”

Spock tugged down his Science blue shirt, pursed his lips, and wondered if it was worth arguing further. Based on the cold fury in Jim’s eyes, he decided not. With a nod, he exited Jim’s quarters and went to his own.

Once there, Spock changed out of his uniform into much more casual attire, regulation pajamas. Then he went into the bathroom he shared with Jim, opened the door to Jim’s quarters and walked in.

Jim, arms folded in front of his chest defensively, gave him a look. It was mildly less hostile than before.

“Jim, may I speak?”

Jim turned away and walked over to his own wardrobe, pulling off his own uniform shirts. Spock waited. When he had pulled a T-shirt on, he turned back to Spock.

“Okay.”

Spock allowed himself to feel some relief. “It was never my intention to challenge your authority in front of the crew. I was out of line.”

“Yes.”

Spock approached Jim where he stood. “There is no finer captain in Starfleet than you. And there is no one I respect or admire more both as my commanding officer and as my friend. That I made you doubt that, I regret immensely.”

“Okay, Spock,” Jim said softly. “I forgive you.”

Spock felt that it should not be that easy and he wondered if indeed it was not. But Jim’s gaze was softer and more open than it had previously been.

“I will not do it again,” Spock promised.

Jim’s lips twitched. “Oh you probably will.”

“Jim—”

“But right now, we’re not captain and commander. We’re Jim and Spock. Off duty, out of uniform, out of words.”

Spock’s brows furrowed, but then cleared when Jim stepped close. Spock closed his arms around Jim and pulled him close. Jim’s arms came around Spock as he buried his face into Spock’s neck. Spock closed his eyes, grateful for Jim’s forgiveness and understanding. It was quite difficult managing a relationship with your commanding officer and made more so because that officer was Jim. Their relationship would never be easy for Spock. Or for Jim, he suspected. But it was more than worth it for both of them.

“I love you,” he whispered.

“I know you do,” Jim replied. And it was as good as Spock would get. He knew that. Jim had not yet said those words to Spock, but Spock was patient. They would come.

“That is an infant.”

Jim, who currently held that infant in his arms, raised both eyebrows. “Your powers of observation never fail you, Spock.”

Spock frowned. “Is it yours?”

“A girl. No, she’s not mine. At least…not yet.”

That earned him a curious look. “Explain.”

“She was…is…the daughter of my brother, Sam.” Jim blew out a breath. He brought her closer to where Spock stood just inside the door of Jim’s apartment, having arrived only moments earlier. “They brought her to me because I’m Sam’s next of kin.”

Spock stared at the baby and then at Jim. “They?”

“The authorities from the planet Mylon where Sam lived. Both Sam and her mother were killed in the Klingon invasion.” He bit his lip. “What do you think?”

“She is beautiful. But will you be able to care for her?”

“I will if…”

Spock’s dark gaze met his. “If?”

“You help me.” Jim sighed. “I know when you thought about pursuing a relationship with me, this wasn’t in consideration, so I can’t blame you if you change your mind.”

“I have not.”

“There’s no one else, Spock. The thought of giving her up, to someone else, I just…I don’t think I can. She’s the only part of Sam left.”

Spock did not say anything for a long time. Then he said, in almost a whisper, “We will need to shop for the items she will need.”

Jim exhaled. Smiled. “Yeah. Yeah.” He leaned over to meet the lips that captured his.

“Sometimes I feel invisible.”

Spock looked at his companion in surprise. They were walking side by side on their way to a student meet for Starfleet Academy cadets.

“I do not understand.”

Jim Kirk, sandy hair and bright blue eyes, gave him a sideways glance. “What do you mean?”

“You are the least invisible person I know.”

Jim frowned. “What does that even mean, Spock?”

Spock shook his head. “Everyone notices you, Jim. Everywhere we go, you are the first person anyone speaks to or looks at no matter who else is with you. I do not understand how you can believe yourself to be invisible.”

“Well. I mean, I guess they see the outside of me well enough, but they never go beyond the surface to see what’s going on with me. It’s all…shallow.”

Spock considered this. “Do you feel that is true of me?”

Jim stopped then, on the edge of the campus. Rather near the exit of the Academy though not that far from the Biology Building where the student meet was.

“Clarify.” Jim had a slight smile on his face as he used Spock’s own term against him.

“I believe that I see well below your outside appearance to what makes you who you are, but I wonder what your perception is.”

Jim’s smile widened and to Spock’s pleased surprise, Jim slid his hand toward Spock’s and touched his index and middle fingers to Spock’s,

“I know you see me, Spock.” He paused. “I see you too.”

As the warmth where their fingers still touched infused Spock’s entire being, he inclined his head.

“Are you quite certain we have to attend the student meet?”

Jim grinned. “I’m quite certain we don’t.”

“Really?” Spock asked, doubtfully. “We did say we would meet up with friends.”

“They’ll understand. Besides, I want us to see each other a little closer still.”

Knowing by that slight smirk what Jim referred to, Spock allowed himself to consider the possibilities.

“We could be late.”

Jim’s eyes danced. “We could be very late.”

“Where’s your bestie?”

Jim eyed Bones over the rim of his tropical drink glass. The little umbrella did hide part of Bones’ face, which Jim was sorta grateful for.

“We had a fight.”

“A fight? You and Spock?”

“Yep.”

“Over what?”

Jim sighed. Mumbled.

“What? It sounded like you said…over who’s taller.”

He shrugged.

“Lord, you have corn for brains. Where is Spock now?”

“Back on the ship, I guess.”

“You’re going to let a stupid fight ruin your shore leave?”

“Nope. You can see I’m whooping it up,” Jim said sarcastically. “When I’m done here, I’m gonna find someone to party with.”

Bones sighed. “Well, it’s your funeral. I’ve got plans so I’ll see you later.”

Jim waved.

He had just finished his drink when the chair across from him was suddenly occupied.

“I am taller.”

Jim’s lips twitched. “Okay, okay. But I’m bigger and I can prove—”

“Jim.”

“Well.” He grinned. “If you’d like to prove me wrong…”

Spock arched a brow.

“Back to the ship, Mister Spock?”

“Indeed.”

Jim + Spock

Jim + Spock

Jim + Spock

Jim + Spock

Jim + Spock

Jim + Spock

“Oh. My. God.”

Jim Kirk looked up from the pad of paper he’d been scribbling on to the wide-eyed incredulous stare of Leonard “Bones” McCoy .

“What?”

“I thought you were actually taking notes during that lecture only to find out you’re writing that crap instead.”

Jim snorted. “Notes? You have to be kidding.”

“I don’t know, Jim. I thought maybe we came here to attend this conference to learn something. Silly me. You’re acting like a lovestruck school—”

“Don’t even think about finishing that sentence.” He leaned back in his chair. “It’s not that I don’t want to learn, Bones, but on this particular subject—”

“Hush.”

Just then the lecturer approached their table. The man, Abraham Waller, hurried over to Jim.

“Captain Kirk! What a pleasure.”

“Hello, Abraham. It’s great to see you. And please, it’s Jim.”

“Jim.” He glanced at Bones. “You must be Doctor McCoy. I’ve heard so much about you.”

Bones, looking unusually uncertain for him, shook Abraham’s hand. “Yes, I am. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Great lecture and subject.”

“Thank you, but of course Jim’s responsible for the course material and all that I spoke of.”

Bones stared at Jim, mouth hanging open. He closed it. “Of course.”

“Jim, if you’re available this evening, my wife and I would love to meet you for dinner.”

“That would be great. Contact me later with the information and we’ll set something up.” Jim smiled.

“I will. Nice to meet you again, Doctor.”

Bones gave him a look. “You could have told me, you know.”

Jim shrugged. “And missed that shocked look on your face?”

“What could you have told the doctor?”

“Oh, hey, Spock.”

“Jim here pretty much wrote our last lecture.”

Spock nodded. “I am aware.”

“Wait, you told Spock but—”

“Bones.”

Spock glanced down at Jim’s pad. “Jim + Spock? What does that mean, Captain?”

“It means that your captain is a school—”

Jim laughed. “Actually, Abraham Waller wants to have dinner, how about you be my plus one?”

“Very well, I accept.”

Bones grimaced. “Just like that?”

“Just like what, Doctor?”

Bones sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.  “Jim just asked you out on a date, your first date, and you agreed without so much as a by your leave.”

Spock stared at him. “As a matter of fact I have gone on several dates with the captain.”

Dates?” Bones asked, incredulous.

“Correct.”

“Dates like to dinner.”

“We often dine in the mess together.”

Bones chuckled. “That doesn’t count. That’s a group thing. Movies, romantic dinners, long walks, that kind of thing. That’s a date, Spock. Not chess or eating in the mess.”

Spock seemed to consider this. “I see. That is the only definition of dates with regard to the captain?”

Jim smirked as Bones seemed quite satisfied with the entire thing.

“Well, was there something else you consider a date, Spock?” Bones asked, grinning.

Spock shrugged. “So, the numerous occasions we engaged in sexual intercourse do not, in fact, count?”

Bones choked. “What?”

Jim rose. “You should have minded your own business, Bones. Come on, Spock. Let’s get ready for our first date according to Bones.”

A bit of silliness from The Original Series, OMS

Photo by Francesco Ungaro on Pexels.com

The first one Spock allowed into their house, Jim hadn’t care that much. He’d known Spock liked them, though he would never admit it outright. Every time they had come across one, Spock ended up holding and petting them.

Once after they’d first married, Jim had suggested Spock adopt one. Their duties, though reduced, seemed to preclude that, so Spock had declined.

After Spock’s memories returned, after all the disaster of Khan and Genesis, Jim had brought it up again, but Spock had once more said no.

Therefore, Jim was mildly surprised when they retired to Riverside when one day Spock came into he house carrying a fluffy gray cat.

“That’s a cat,” Jim said, obviously.

“Indeed.”

“Well. Where did it come from?”

“I do not know the origins of these particular feline, but when I was out in the barn, she walked in.” Spock shrugged. “I believe it was her intent to adopt us.”

“Adopt us? Spock, she likely belongs to someone.”

But they checked and no one claimed her but Spock. Or as Spock had insisted, she claimed them.

The second one came home with Spock one day when he’d been at the store. Jim waited for his husband to say that the cat had followed him home, but Spock merely said that he saw the stray and picked him up.

The third and fourth were twin kittens Spock arrived home with some months later. By then, Jim had decided not to ask Spock where he got them. They made Spock happy and that was good enough for him. If they were, a bit, underfoot at times, well.

The fifth came one year right around Spock’s birthday and when Jim opened his mouth to protest, Spock coyly advised that this one was Jim’s birthday present to Spock. Since Jim had, in fact, forgotten Spock’s birthday, he closed his mouth.

There was a time or two when Jim broached the subject of a dog, but Spock pointed out that the cats probably would not welcome such a companion. Jim gave up that idea.

The moment he noticed a sixth cat, he counted them twice, Jim finally put his foot down.

“Spock, baby, you know I love you.”

“Yes, Jim.”

Jim smiled. “But maybe. Perhaps, a half a dozen cats is our limit.”

Spock pursed his lips. “Yes, perhaps.”

“I mean I know you have a particular fondness for—”

“Not over any particular creature, Jim,” Spock insisted.

“Er, right. Anyway, this should make our home quite full now.” He smiled again.

“However.”

Jim raised both brows. “However?”

Spock shifted awkwardly. “I was thinking that eight might be a more suitable number.”

Jim felt a headache building behind his eyes. “Eight, Mister Spock?”

Spock shrugged slightly. “It is only that they have already been acquired and are due to be delivered tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow.”

“Yes, and since it is our anniversary—”

Jim frowned, thinking about it. Was it? He couldn’t quite recall. It was possible. He sighed.

“Very well. Uh. Happy anniversary, Spock. But that has to be the last.”

“Of course, Jim. Of course.”

Cosmic Love, Part/Chapter 14

Probably not safe for work

Clothes were strewn about Jim’s dorm. They finally were lying on the little bed. Spock on Jim, kissing him breathless. Whatever experience neither of them had, Spock was a damn fine kisser.

And damn fine too. Before they’d gotten on the bed, Jim had snuck a look at Spock’s nude body. Maybe he was wrong, but Jim was pretty sure Spock was extremely well built.

Everywhere.

And perhaps that part being well built ought to scare him a bit but it didn’t.

Jim sucked in a gulpful of air when Spock paused long enough to allow it. When Spock resumed his mouth’s assault, Jim lowered his hand between their bodies and closed his fingers around Spock’s hardening shaft. Of course, Jim knew what one felt like, having one himself, but this seemed somehow different. Having his fist around someone else’s dick, and Spock’s for pity’s sake, well…Jim considered his mind blown.

Spock moaned and stopped kissing Jim long enough to say hoarsely, “I can blow something else should you desire.”

Mirth bubbled up inside him. “Oh, I desire all right. Wait, were you reading my mind?”

“I am a touch telepath,” Spock reminded him. He groaned loudly when Jim swiped his thumb over the head of Spock’s cock. “For someone who has not done that you remarkably talented.”

“Well.” And Jim was blushing. “I have one, you know, and have done some…practicing.”

Spock arched a brow. “Yes, I take your meaning. I cannot deny a bit of research myself.”

Jim grinned, pulled him down for another kiss, but this time Spock pulled away.

“If your desire is for me to work my mouth on that particular appendage of yours, we will need to cease kissing, so that I may move down there.”

This time Jim laughed out loud. “Oh, my gosh, you’re so cool. I never imagined sex would be so funny and fun at the same time.”

Spock shrugged, kissed Jim once more, and then began to crawl down Jim’s body, dislodging Jim’s fingers from his own dick as he did so.

Jim’s breaths shorted. This was real. Spock was about to—

“Ahhhhh.”
