“Father, I have returned home with the human, James Kirk,” Spock said to Sarek, who he had found in his study. “Which room am I to place him?”

Sarek shook his head. “He will not be staying here.”

“But I advised him that he would be.”

“You have advised incorrectly, Spock. James Kirk will be cared for by another family in Kir.”

“No.”

“It has already been arranged.”

“Then unarranged it. I have advised him that he would and could stay with us.”

“Spock…”

“Father, considering what he has been through, he cannot withstand such a disappointment. And I gave him my word. Surely you would not dispute that.”

Sarek sighed. “You are making this quite difficult. And your behavior is illogical. The family in Kir will be expecting him.”

“A small matter for you to explain. I will give him the room two doors down from mine and across from Michael.”

Sarek turned around. “Very well. You are dismissed.” Dismissed, perhaps. But victorious.

Flash Fic, May 15, 2020

Spock sat before the terminal in the captain’s quarters. In the corner by the closet, Jim was pulling off his command tunic and undershirt, and reaching into the drawer for a T-Shirt.

“Hey, babe?”

And that still took some getting used to. It was not unpleasant. Not at all. But the casual way Jim used an endearment for him was…exhilarating in a way he wouldn’t have imagined.

Curious.

It did not matter whether Jim called him babe, baby, honey, sweetheart, or whatever silly thing he came up with, Spock liked it. And he found that he liked it, craved it even, was completely and utterly illogical.

“Yes, Jim?”

“You think the crew knows about us?”

Spock paused before he answered, choosing instead to watch as Jim struggled into his T-Shirt, admiring the exposed chest and abdomen of his lover.

“Spock?” Now Jim smirked at him, clearly noticing Spock’s admiration.

“You refer to their obvious observation of us earlier in the mess room?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Yes, I suspect that at least some of them have surmised we are together.”

“Does that bother you?”

“Not in the least. Does it you?”

“Nah. I mean they were going to find out eventually. I’m not going to want it to be a secret.” Jim came over to the desk and looked down at what Spock was doing. “Reports?”

“They are past due.”

Jim sighed. “I know. But you shouldn’t have to do them for me. I can do them if you want to move.”

“I don’t mind attending to them, ashayam. Go ahead and have your video conference with your mother. I will work on these.”

“Yeah?”

“Of course.”

“Ashayam? That’s new. What is it?”

“It is…babe.”

“I think we should place bets.”

Scotty eyed Ensign Marker. “On what, laddie?”

“When the captain and the commander are gonna get together.”

The captain and commander were currently standing next to each other at the replicators. There wasn’t an inch to spare between them.

Sulu grinned. “I’m in. And I say it’s gonna be forever. They’ve been dancing around each other for a over a year. Over two.”

“You saying they aren’t into each other?” Davers asked.

“No, they are. I’m just saying they won’t admit it anytime soon.”

“You in, Mr. Scott?” Marker asked.

“I’ve got better things to do then to involve myself with such nonsense. If they are or aren’t, it’s none o’ my business.”

“Jaylah?” Sulu directed at her.

“No, it is not necessary.”

“Oh? Good for you, lassie, not involving yourself in games.”

Sulu frowned. “Wait, why is it not necessary?”

Jaylah shrugged. “They are together, Commander Spock and James T.”

“What?” Marker demanded. “How do you know?”

“I have seen them.”

Seen them?”

“Outside the door. Kissing with their hands and with their lips.”

“Damn it, that would have been easy money!”

“Hey, what’s going on?”

They all looked up startled into the smiling face of their captain. Next to them was their first officer looking blandly at them, as yet again, there was not an inch between them.

Scotty cleared his throat. “Nothing, Captain. We were all about to finish up and head back to our stations.”

The captain’s smile widened. “Probably a good idea.”

They all scrambled up out of their chairs and grabbed their trays to discard them.

Spock shared a look and a shrug with the captain as they headed out of the mess towatd the bridge.

Spock didn’t know how it had gotten to this point. How it went so horribly wrong. He should know. He should. But his ability to analyze, to think, was compromised. He hoped not irreparably.

Somewhere in his pain-wracked mind, he could recall that only the prior night, he and Jim had finally ‘stopped dancing around each other’ as Nyota had put it. They’d been…intimate. And Jim had been so gentle and loving with him.

He’d allowed himself the ill-conceived emotion of hope. Which now, under these circumstances, felt particularly foolish.

“You’re going to be okay,” came the broken whisper and it was not at all convincing. Spock tried to come up with a reassuring response of his own, but he found he lacked the energy to form even words, let alone complete sentences.

He heard in the distance, or it seemed so very far away, the call for beam up from the Enterprise. It went unanswered and Spock knew from the desperation in the voice, he was out of time.

He had to say something. Had to get the words out, before it really was too late. No matter how much energy it might cost him.

“Get to safety,” he rasped. “Leave me.”

The palm of the hand touching his face was warm and callused. Even before the word was spoken, he knew what it would be.

“Never.”

He tried to shake his head, but thought he failed. He had no will left, only pain he could no longer control, and even that was fading, though he knew that could not be good.

His head was lifted with utmost care, then lowered into a lap. Arms came around to hold him. He was comforted that in this, his end, the one he loved was there, with him.

“Spock…I love you.”

****

“Bones?”

“He’s coming around.”

Spock blinked, slowly, his eyelids feeling absurdly heavy. A hand on his face, warm, callused again.

The face leaning over him blurred, then came into focus, blue eyes like an oasis he’d been seeking in the desert.

“Jim,” he croaked.

A smile that lit up the room. “Yes, Spock. Yes.”

Eveningstar’s Birthday Flash

After the Events that dealt with the Melkotians (The OK Corral one where Chekov is killed but is revived at the end of the episode). Now served, AOS Style.

Despite what probably a lot of people thought, Jim actually second and third guessed himself quite a bit. And now as he stood in Spock’s quarters, this was definitely one of those times.

“Spock, come on. It wasn’t your fault.”

“Perhaps not directly, Captain. But I was convinced since it was all an illusion by the Melkotians that Mr. Chekov would be returned to us.”

Jim rubbed his chest, where the ache over the loss of the young ensign made it frankly hard to breathe. He’d thought so too. And he had begged the Melkotians even as they informed the party they’d be sent back to the Enterprise. To no avail. Chekov was gone.

If it was anyone’s fault, it was surely Jim’s.

“Hoping that they’d have the integrity and morality to return him to us is hardly worthy of any blame on your part, Spock,” he said, gently.

Spock studied him through furrowed brows. “Nor do you bear responsibility.”

“Well.” He shrugged.

“Jim.”

“As his captain, I bear some. But ultimately, I know it was the Melkotians, Spock. I accept that, because I must.” He paused taking a deep breath. “But if there is one thing that all of this has taught me is life really is…I mean…there’s so much time we waste on nothing and I…just don’t want to do that anymore.”

Spock frowned minutely. “Captain…”

“I don’t want to go another minute without telling you that you…” He paused to gather his nerve. “You mean the world to me.”

“You are quite important to me as well.”

Jim smiled. Nodded. “Yeah. I mean, that’s great, and I know. But you mean, well our friendship…and I’m really glad about that, Spock. I am. And in the past, maybe just yesterday, I would have just gone, cool, that’s great. I’m glad we’re on the same page, but you mean more to me than anyone I’ve ever known, Spock. You aren’t just my-my best friend, though you are, and my most trusted officer, you are that, too, there’s just no one I admire more than you. Your intelligence and integrity, your will power. You’re just amazing. And I get to know you and care about you and it’s just…it’s everything.” Jim bit his lip. “Are you getting this?”

“I believe that I am.”

“Yeah?”

“And it is the same for me.”

Jim laughed, shook his head. “No. I’m trying to say I’m in love with you.”

“I know.”

“And I’m not trying to make you uncomfortable or anything and I definitely don’t expect you to…what?” Jim stared dumbfounded at Spock.

Spock arched a brow. “As I said…it is the same for me.”

“Are you saying…”

“I believe I am speaking Starfleet standard.”

Jim took a step toward Spock who took a step toward him.

“Spock.”

“Jim.”

He rushed at Spock then, who seemed to rush at him. Then they were kissing, and yeah teeth clacked together, it wasn’t exactly smooth. His fault, of course, because this was Spock and oh my God.

He laughed and pulled back, touching his fingertips to Spock’s lips, which bled a little where Jim’s tooth pierced it.

“Sorry, got a little eager.”

Spock’s lips turned upward. “I am not really complaining. I have waited a long time for that. For this.”

Jim’s smile brightened. “Yeah? Me too.”

“How about I show you?”

And Spock pulled him close, lips gentle on his.

Flash Fic 05/07/2020

Surprise! Wasn’t really going to do a Mother’s Day post because I have Eveninstar’s birthday fic scheduled that day. But decided, we could all use a little extra Spirk and though it’s a few days early, here it is…

Jim knew didn’t understand at all his desire to visit Spock’s mother with him. At first, he had flat out vocalized his opposition. Although perhaps opposition wasn’t entirely accurate.

“My mother has never expressed an interest or desire in celebrating any such occasion.”

“I’m guessing she wouldn’t be blatant about it, Spock.”

“She accepted life on Vulcan and all that comes with it when she chose to marry my father.”

“Yeah. I know. But I think this will be nice.”

Spock didn’t sigh, but it was an almost thing.

Since they had plans to visit Vulcan and Spock’s parents anyway, Jim had decided this would be a very good time for it.

So, he had carefully packed for it, including wrapped presents for Spock’s mother. He was aware his bondmate thought it all completely illogical and the consideration of it even without merit.

But Jim was having none of it.

Sarek and Amanda greeted them in their home. Sarek, stoically, of course, Amanda les so.

After they were settled into the room where they would be staying for the next couple of weeks, Jim went into his suitcase for the presents he had brought.

Spock looked over his shoulder. “You wasted the effort, Jim.”

He smiled. “We’ll see.”

They made their way back out to the living room area where they were going to sit and have refreshments and “get caught up” as Amanda put it.

Amanda was seated in what she had earlier told Jim was her favorite chair. She smiled when he and Spock came out and joined them.

“Oh. What do you have there, Jim?” she asked, her curiosity showing.

“Well. Actually, Amanda, they’re for you.”

“For me?”

“Since my own mother has passed on, I thought it would be appropriate and nice to honor you for Mother’s Day.”

Her eyes widened slightly. “It is Mother’s Day, isn’t it? How lovely.”

Jim handed the two wrapped packages to her.

Amanda laughed. “I can’t remember the last time I had presents.”

Jim noticed the stiffening in Spock’s shoulders and Sarek’s pursed lips. He ignored both of them and sat by Amanda to watch her open the gifts.

The first was a simple box of chocolates, but she seemed very pleased and glanced at her husband.

“You stay away from my chocolates, husband.”

Sarek humphed which made her laugh.

Then she opened the second and took out a cloisonné bangle bracelet. She gasped. “Oh, Jim, it’s just beautiful.”

He smiled and glanced toward Spock. “It’s from both of us, of course.”

She smiled, sharing a look with him. “Of course. Thank you both so much. This was an absolute wonderful surprise. I feel incredibly spoiled.

Later…

As they prepared for bed.

“Jim?”

“Yes, Spock?”

“You were, perhaps, right and I was, perhaps, wrong.” “It’s okay, Spock, it does happen once in a while.”

Flash Fic, May 04, 2020

Spock was surprised…shocked even…to find Jim sitting on the ground, in the dirt. His face was streaked with dirt and tear tracks. His legs were bent at the knees, drawn up protectively to his chest. One pant leg was torn at the knee and Spock could see Jim’s knee was bleeding.

“Jim.”

“I scraped my knee.”

“I…see that. Jim…what is it? Why are you just sitting there on the ground?”

“It hurt.”

Spock dropped to his haunches and put his hand on Jim’s face, gently turning that face to look at Spock.

“I am certain that it does. And I am sorry.”

Jim nodded. But he made no move to get up.

“Can you come with me? I will get the doctor to look at your knee. We will get it and you all cleaned up and it won’t hurt anymore.”

“It’s all so much.”

“I know. But if you come with me, all will be well again. I promise.”

Jim stared at his torn knee. “Shouldn’t hurt so much.”

But then he put his hand in Spock’s and Spock stood, drawing Jim to his feet.

Spock took out his communicator. “Two to beam up.”

When they appeared on the transporter, McCoy rushed forward to take hold of Jim, who clearly looked confused.

“What’s wrong with him?” McCoy demanded. “What happened?”

“I do not know.”

“He looks…Jim, can you tell me how old you are?” McCoy asked.

Jim blinked. “Fifteen.”

“Well, that’s just…”

Nyota came forward, smiling at Jim. “Hello, Jim. I’m going to take you to the medbay, okay? Anywhere else hurt besides your knee?”

“No. Um. Well. My head. Where is this? Who are all of you?”

  • okay yes, this one I did on purpose! HA HA

A continuation of the Flash on April 6, 2020

Jim, the human boy, was skittish, and Spock supposed he could not blame him, considering what Spock had learned had happened to him. And to the others.

Not that there were a lot of survivors that had been brought to Vulcan. And most that were, were young like Jim.

This human boy jumped at everything, which cause Spock to feel sorry for him. He had obviously been through a lot.

“Come, Jim. It is only a little farther.”

Jim’s steps faltered. “Where?”

“My home. As I said, you can bathe and eat and become warm again.”

Jim shivered though it was not cold. “Not sure I will ever be warm.”

“You will be safe there,” Spock promised.

“Your house?”

“Yes, Jim.”

“And I get to stay there?” he asked shyly.

“Yes.”

Jim took a step forward, then stopped again. “You sure?”

Spock nodded. “My father has a habit of fostering children. There is already an older human female in our household. My mother is human. Do not worry, you will be welcome.”

But still Jim hesitated so Spock reached out his hand in a gesture probably most Vulcans would not do. But Spock was not most.

Jim blinked and put his hand in Spock’s and Spock led him to the house and inside.

Flash Fic, 04/29/2020

Jim used his bare big toe to poke Bones under the table where they sat eating breakfast. Well, if a huge plate of cinnamon rolls counted as breakfast. To Jim, it totally did. Jim still wore his pajama bottoms and a tank top, though Bones was fully dressed.

“Do you know what day it is?”

Bones scowled over the rim of his coffee. “April 29th.”

“Well, yeah, obviously. And a Saturday, too. Before you add that.”

Bones smirked and popped gooey cinnamon roll bits into his mouth. “These are wicked good. Where’d you get them?”

“Get them?”

“What bakery?”

“They’re home made.”

“There’s no way you made these. You cook with two feet.”

Jim rolled his eyes. “Do not. And no, I didn’t. They were made for my anniversary.” He grinned.

“Anniversary? Of what?”

“The day Pike talked me into enlisting in Starfleet, of course.”

“Oh, of course,” Bones said, sarcastically. “Why didn’t I mark that on the calendar?”

“Why indeed.”

There was a knock on their door. Jim wiped his mouth on a napkin, rose and opened the door.

“Good morning.” Jim leaned in for a quick kiss.

“Good morning,” was the murmured response.

Jim returned to the table.

“Doctor. Are you enjoying the cinnamon rolls I made for Jim?”

Bones choked and stared at Spock with wide eyes. “You made them?”

“Of course Spock did! You didn’t make me anything.”

“Spare me.” Bones sighed. “But okay, yes, Spock, you made fantastic tasting cinnamon rolls.”

“Thank you, doctor. And they are from a vegan recipe.”

“Well, then, doubly impressive.” Bones got up from the table. “I should get to class.”

Jim looked at him quizzically. “It’s Saturday, there’s no class.”

“Still going,” Bones called, as he grabbed a coat and went out the door.

Jim snorted. “Sorry about that.”

“It is fine. In fact, I have the perfect solution for the doctor being uncomfortable.”

“Oh yeah? What?” Jim picked up a cinnamon roll and offered a bite to Spock, who took it.

“Move in with me,” Spock answered, after chewing and swallowing.

“Oh, that is perfect. I say yes.” He kissed Spock again and then made a yummy noise. “Mmm. Frosting.”
