“Moon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you’re goin’, I’m goin’ your way

Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after the same rainbow’s end
Waitin’ ’round the bend
My huckleberry friend
Moon river and me”

“I was unaware you sang, Captain.”

Jim, embarrassed to be caught crooning in the shower, laughed and turned off the indulgent water spray and reached for a towel to wrap around himself. He stepped out of the shower.

“Sorry, was I taking too long?”

Spock kept his gaze averted. “No. I was drawn by your lyrical voice. I thought perhaps you were playing music and then was surprised to hear it was you.”

He laughed again. “You put in for promotion, Spock?”

“Captain?”

“Thought maybe you’re trying to butter me up.”

Spock frowned. “Butter you up?”

“You know what? Never mind. Thanks for the compliment. The shower is all yours.”

“Captain?”

Jim turned just as he was about to exit their shared bathroom in their temporary apartment quarters on Yorktown. “Yeah?”

“Would you like to join me for dinner?”

“You and Uhura?”

“Nyota has other plans.” Spock paused. “With Mr. Scott. They are seeing each other.”

Jim blinked. “They are?”

“Dinner?”

Jim smiled. “A date, Spock?”

He was joking of course.

“Yes.”

“Uh. Yeah. Okay. Sure. Dinner.”

He exited the bathroom and as he did so he could hear Spock humming Moon River.
