*Because I got a weird question in Spam (sorry I don’t know if it was legitimate or not) this is entirely an AU. All my imagination related to the shapeshifting and nothing in Star Trek canon ever suggested Kirk was a shapeshifter (I’m surprised it has to be said)
Spock carried the cat carrier discreetly covered by a cloth as he prepared to board a passenger ship to Deneva.
He’d learned that was currently where the Kirk family was and if anyone could figure out how to help Jim Kirk, Spock imagined his own family of cat shifters would be where to start.
He’d also decided it was best to leave San Francisco for the time being so he had taken a leave of absence from teaching at the Academy.
The agent manning the gate before the entry to the ship eyed Spock. “What’s that you have?”
“A cat.”
The man peered under the cloth. “Pretty cat.”
“Indeed. He is my emotional support animal.”
“A Vulcan with an emotional support animal? Now I really have seen everything.”
“He keeps me calm and unemotional,” Spock replied, with a straight face.
The man waved toward the door. “Whatever. Go on ahead.”
Spock looked behind him before going up the ramp. He had no evidence that he and Jim were being followed, but clearly those who had abducted Jim were out to find him.
Once on the ship, Spock selected a seat in the back of the ship that faced the entrance so he could see all other occupants. He put the carrier on the empty seat next to him.
The flight was expected to take five hours and Spock hoped Jim would sleep through most of that. He, of course, would not.
As it turned out, the flight to Deneva was uneventful. There weren’t a lot of others traveling there so he’d been able to keep track of them easily.
Spock hadn’t let the Kirks know he was coming either as he hadn’t wanted anything traceable. So he exited the ship with Jim to go locate them.

Emotional support animal! I love it. That’s perfection. I love that he’s sneak attacking the Kirks. That’s gonna be a hell of a surprise. I cannot wait to see how this is going to play out!

“A Vulcan with an emotional support animal? Now I really have seen everything.” THAT is hilarious!!!
Oh wow. I’m such a dork. It didn’t even cross my mind that…DUH!…Spock would immediately take Bombaby to his family, as they’d been frantically missing him for years and would be the only ones Spock could imagine could actually help. THAT is going to be a homecoming!
Plus – smart move Spock. Obviously the danger isn’t anywhere near over. Getting Jim with his family increases the survival rate of all of them!
I just can’t wait for next Friday! That’s going to be one of my fave chapters in anything EVER!

UNLESS the whole idea of NOT stopping Spock and absconding with Bombaby yet IS the bad guys’ plan – to follow him to get to ALL the Kirk shapeshifters.
Though – I’m sure they’re ‘in the book’ as we used to say ages ago before cell phones and when we got a new phonebook with everyone’s name and address and phone number.
(And wow has the world changed. NOW we have to GUARD all that basic info- including our real names. And they say the world’s been made better with the internet and cellphones. People born after the internet have no idea how that part never was much of a problem just a few years ago.)
Anyway, yeah, I let it go intentionally. I finally am tired of correcting my fingers that just naturally type bombaby every single time. I give up.

I think the Kirks are very careful so even if the bad guys figure out through Spock where his family is, they would have preparations in place to deal with any perceived threats
Yep the internet has definitely changed the world ad yes often for the very worst
And yes I just never even notice Bombaby anymore LOL

I think it IS a smart move because yeah they will know what to do for Jim (hopefully) and can perhaps get that kitty back to his human self 🙂

I read this this morning and it was lovely to wake up to, but I went back to sleep, after marking this as unread. I’m still sick but going to see my doctor, for the third time in two weeks, tomorrow afternoon. Sinus infection I can tolerate but I’m still wheezing from time to time.
Back to our regularly scheduled program….
Living Bombay/aka Bombaby! Great idea by Spock to head to Jim’s family and be extra vigilant on the shuttle. There’s no telling what lengths these people will go to to get ahold of Jim. I’m still tense about the outcome, although I know you’ll make it come out all right in the end.
Looking forward to seeing the next update of this.

You poor thing, how awful you can’t seem to shake things.
I hope I have a positive outcome in mind too LOL

Emotional support cats for Vulcans seem logical LOL
Glad Spock was able to get to Denva without incident. Hopefully finding the Kirks will go smoothly so Jim can get back to normal.
Can’t wait for more!
