I was surprised to be greeted by Sarek when I arrived at the medical facility on New Vulcan. I had been surprised to be contacted at all by Spock or any of the Vulcans, really.
Spock and I had partedβ¦not acrimoniously or anything, but at the end of our mission, weβd said our farewells, and for my part, though I regretted it, I had accepted this was the end of our great friendship, if that had ever been what it was.
Yet now I had been contacted two years later when Spock had been injured in a research ship crash on a less explored part of New Vulcan. I didnβt mind at all going to check on Spockβs recovery, and I had been told he would recover, yet still Sarek waiting for me as I arrived was unexpected.
βI hoped you would come,β Sarek said. He looked so much older than when Iβd seen him last. Like something had aged him in ways that were not usual. The pain of living, perhaps?
βOf course,β I replied. βSpockβs my friend.β
He gave me an odd look. βYes, of course. But more yes?β
I stared at him blankly for a moment trying to fathom what he meant. What he imagined perhaps. Though once I had thoughtβ¦but no.
βYou do not know, do you?β Sarek asked quietly.
βKnow what?β
Sarek didnβt speak at first, but then he said rather stoically, βYou are his mate.β
βWhat?β
βHis Tβhyβla. A special bond that is rare among my people. That you are unawareβ¦I cannot speak of such things, but, please, go and see my son.β
With a frown, I watched Sarek walk away. I turned and went into see Spock in the hospital bed. He was sitting up, looking pale and sickly, still weak and injured. There was a smudge of green blood by his left eyebrow and I felt a moment of outrage that no one had cleaned it from his face.
I stopped at the nearby sink, wet a cloth with warm water and went to do it myself. He silently watched me, gaze intent.
After I removed the dried blood, I returned his gaze.
βI saw your dad.β
βYes.β He nodded. βI thank you for coming.β
βDid you ask for me?β
He looked away then, and nodded.
βSpock, why does your dad think Iβm your mate?β
βBecauseβ¦you are. We are Tβhyβla.β
I slowly blew out a breath. βWhyβd you wait so long to tell me?β
I had surprised him. He stared at me, eyes wide.
βYeah, I knew. I mean, I thought. The ambassadorβ¦well he may have told me some things.β
βI did not think you would ever want me.β
βAre you kidding me?β
βA skinny, pale Vulcan? You are the radiant sun.β
I smiled and took his hand. I brought it to my face. βLet me show you.β

Yeah I spent a few minutes looking for it as I knew I had it somewhere but couldn’t locate it. I almost gave in and went with another but finally found it lol

This is so bittersweet! That they parted two years before and Spock never told Jim that they were Tβhyβla is sad. Two lost years!!! However, the reunion is just lovely. Sarek rather bluntly announces that they are mates. Jim seems not to believe until Spock confirms it.
Jim, angered that no one had washed the trace of blood off Spockβs forehead, shows a depth of caring. Yes, Jim that is love! The ending is perfect. Jim inviting Spock to meld with him. Sigh!
I have to ask⦠Any plan on continuing this?

My answer, predictably, is no, I don’t have plans
Yes I think because Jim had learned from Spock Prime about T’hy’la, he knew it was possible and yet Spock never said anything and allowed them to part ways, so because of that he was skeptical when Sarek mentioned it π

You know there’s a writer on AO3 that sometimes writes Star Trek and I think almost 100% of hers are “flashes” just snippets of what could be bigger stories and at times lots of people have begged for more and she always says no, that’s it. There was one in particular she wrote that I SO wanted more of but it was the same old answer to anyone who asked. That’s why she has over 4,000 works on there. My point is, I totally get it when you want more of something and the writer is uncooperative but I do appreciate that you like it enough to even ask β€οΈ
