Jim heard Spockās approach after he finished the debriefing with the Federation Council. Felt the warm touch of their newly established bond in his mind. It was like a caress. Comfort after a long, trying day.
For a moment they stood side by side watching the president and council go their separate ways.
He turned to face Spock with a welcoming smile.
āWell, Mister Spock, I guess Iām dismissed.ā
āYou saved millions of lives once more.ā
Jim smiled just a tiny fraction. āItās never just me.ā
āNo,ā Spock acknowledged. āBut you are a large part of it. You are a highly competent leader.ā
āThank you, Spock. Thatāsā¦thatās quite a compliment from you.ā
āAnd I mean every word.ā
āI know. Thatās what it makes it so meaningful.ā He sighed, looking over the now empty chamber.
āYet I sense your disquiet through our bond.ā
The bond theyād had to establish because of the recent mission that saved all those lives.
āWe should probably talk about that, donāt you think?ā
Spock looked somewhat uncomfortable. āYour life was in danger and Iāā
Jim held up his hands. āNo, I know. Iām notā¦mad or anything. I donāt know what I am other than grateful. I suppose Iām more concerned with how you feel about it and how youāre doing.ā
āMe? I assure you, Jim, I am perfectly content with matters as they stand.ā
āPerfectly content.ā He smiled again, faintly. āYou have my scrambled brain connected with yours. Are you sure itās contentment you feel?ā
Spock gave him a puzzled look. āPerfectly sure. I am content by your side.ā
āYou donāt seek glory, huh?ā
āGlory?ā
Jim shook his head. āYouāre remarkable, Spock. Really. You donāt want toā¦I donāt knowā¦do something to get me out of your head.ā
āIs that what you want?ā
āNo. I mean I like the way you feel here.ā He tapped his head. āBut I bet youāre getting the bulk of it, right?ā
āYes. I can shield though. Our compatibility is quite extraordinary.ā
āGood to know.ā Jim took a step forward, with Spock on his heels. He stopped and looked at Spock. āI need to tell you something.ā
āTell me something?ā
āBefore I forget or let it go or justā¦push it aside again. Like always.ā Jim sighed. āI donāt think I ever told you this.ā
āJim?ā
āYouāre my hero.ā
āCaptaināā
āNo, hear me out.ā He swallowed heavily. āIāmā¦I wouldnāt be here without you. Youāve helped me so much. And you always stand by me silently, letting me get the accolades. You were justā¦like you saidā¦content to be there, offering me your quiet support and strength. Youāre amazing. You really are my hero.ā
Spock just stared at him.
Jim smiled and put his had on Spockās arm. āItās not unnoticed. Not by me. Itās here.ā He thumped his heart. āI know the truth. Iām here and able to do what Iāve done because of you.ā
And now Jim figured heād made Spock uncomfortable, so he turned to keep walking. But Spock grabbed his wrist and stopped him from moving forward.
āI am by your side because I want to be. You receive glory because it is deserved.ā
āSpockā”
āAnd there is no one I would rather share a bond with.ā
Jimās smile widened. āWell then. I guess we really have a lot to talk about. Shall we?ā
Spock inclined his head. āIndeed.ā
And they left HQ together, Jim couldnāt stop stealing glances at Spock, but that was okay, every time Spock was looking right back at him.

HA well…admittedly I dropped another prompt (I’ve written that same story like 6 or more times and decided I wasn’t inspired) but
I did start somebody else’s prompt *wink*

I bet dropping that prompt was the wise thing. MOST of those prompts there (the ones that were any good at all) you’ve already written. (though it’s beyond me how you just plain ol’ passed up the 12 spanks of Christmas or whatever it was.) (I hope you recognize that for the heavy dripping sarcasm it was! gag puke)
I was really stunned how many prompts were like, uh, Ivan’s done that already! Go read it!
And honestly *that prompt you’re starting. You could do that any time. It doesn’t have to be now if you’re not inspired. Obviously, I mean, it doesn’t have to be EVER. But if it doesn’t hit you right now, don’t let it bug you. Push it off for later if that feels better. As Spock said, do what *feels right! ESPECIALLY since you can’t be two places at once like he could! lol

Yeah too many of them were exact copies of what I have done numerous times and if I had all the time in the world, sure, but I don’t!

Also I’m really peeved at myself, because I came up with the perfect prompt for a short December flash, if you’re doing those this year and wanted ideas.
I thought of it right before I went to sleep and told myself, don’t worry! That’s so good, no way I’ll forget it!
