Ramblings for the End of February 2022

Well nearing the end anyway

I have one more story to write for the Spring Fling but I did write three already. I also have to finish up February flashes.

This past week we took a short jaunt to Solvang, Santa Ynez and the Chumash Casino. I came home with about $800 so not too bad. I thought you might want to see some pictures from our little getaway.

Pastries from our favorite bakery in Solvang, Olsen’s
Flowers in Solvang
More Flowers from Solvang
Wine Tasting in Solvang
We’ve reached the Casino in Santa Ynez now
My strawberry drink, it was called a Russian Rose. It had vodka in it but tasted like a strawberry shake!

My Cesar Salad with anchovies, YUM

My Salmon, note the fancy plating! LOL
A cute machine with a $500 win for the sister, even the Panda’s are excited!
Heading home, a gloomy day in Ventura Harbor
More Ventura Harbor

Next trip is a 5 day one in about a month in Temecula with wine tasting, a resort pool, and Pechanga!

Extra Plans

Originally, we were just staying overnight only Saturday at our favorite place in Morro Bay, but yesterday I was sitting here at work going, damn, we should have taken Friday off work and taken both Friday and Saturday nights in Morro Bay. I looked up the place just out of curiosity and was surprised Friday was available. Even the exact room we are staying in. The rooms have names. The one I booked is called Morro Rock Suite. They aren’t really all suites they just called them all suites, lol. Anyway they only have I think 8 rooms total. The Morro Rock Suite has a view of the Morro Rock and Bay and also has a fireplace, which since right now it’s cold here, I am greatly looking forward to.

Anyway, just because it was available didn’t mean anything. Neither of us had Friday off and I didn’t relish the idea of going up there after work in traffic. I laughingly texted him that it’s too bad we didn’t take Friday off and then we could stay both nights. To my surprise, he said, well, is the room available? I said it was. Then I looked up a room in another place we like there and it would be about $60 less to stay there Friday night but it would also mean we’d have to switch rooms in the middle of the weekend. I asked, are we sure you want to do this and he said, I already asked for the day off. HA. So, I went ahead and did too. My day was approved first but eventually so was his. I ended up booking the Morro Rock Suite for both nights even though the other place would have been cheaper, but no fireplace and the switching locations. Plus we really do prefer this other place.

So now I am going up there Friday for two nights! I am very excited. This may be our only trip up there this year. It means less time for updating this week but oh well! HA

Regular readers on AO3 will notice I posted the first chapter of When I Loved You. I changed it a bit from some of what you read here and also added some stuff from one of my 100 word fics. And wa la! I might get the second chapter up before Friday but we shall see.

Yes, I know I should be working on some of my older works in progress, but alas my muse wants new shiny things. I will get to the older stuff, I promise.

I will have 100 words up on Friday, as part of my series. I already wrote it and set it up to post Friday morning.

St. John USVI

And yes, I am going to that place you see above, that is Trunk Bay, St. John US Virgin Islands

Okay I have pre-scheduled 100 words or less flashes for this Friday, the 26th, and next Friday, February 02.

I can hardly believe it is almost time for my cruise. We take the “flyaway” to the airport Friday night. I don’t know if other areas have this but it’s an airport bus service so that you don’t have to drive yourself all the way to LAX. Or beg someone else to do it for you. LAX is a major pain to drive to because it’s on one of the world’s busiest freeways. Anyway, it’s much easier to convince a friend or family member to take you to the Flyaway. Our flight leaves at 11:50 PM Friday night and we land at 7:30 AM or so in Orlando. At about 10 we take a shuttle we paid for through Carnival to the port where our ship leaves. We can get on about Noon and the ship departs at 4:00 PM Saturday afternoon.

I will be back somewhere around 8:30 to LAX on Saturday February 03. Then we collect our luggage and catch a Flyaway bus back where someone picks us up from there. Probably be in my house ready for bed by 11ish. I hope. LOL. Then I will have all day Sunday the 4th to recuperate and do laundry.

When I made the plans for this trip it seemed so far away so that it is actually here is pretty strange to me. There are nine of us going so it should be fun.

This week I’d like to finish Who’s the Daddy, get a new chapter done on Bitter Frost, and a new one on You’re in My Veins. I am pretty sure I can do it.

No movie this week. Last week we saw Jumanji. It was amusing. We’ve seen everything we were going to see I think anyway. I think in February we will see the Pacific Rim movie. And of course in March is Wrinkle in Time.

Ramblings will be back February 05, 2018

Ramblings of the Week, August 28, 2017

I am back from my trip and am now melting. MELTING. We are having a mega heatwave and our AC is broken. We’ve called a couple of places and no one calls us back, so I guess I have to suffer for the next week and a half before we get some relief and it cools at night. Ugh.

Here are some pictures from my trip.

EsteroInn Our room. See that little porthole? It’s actually a window that you just cover up at night. And the door leads to the balcony.

MBWINE  A bit blurry but the dude we listened to Saturday at the Morro Bay Wine Seller. We had wine and music. Great.

Otter

An Otter in the Bay

Cambria

See how sunny it is in Cambria? Cambria is one of our favorite towns. We have to have breakfast at Linn’s there. In September/October they have a scarecrow thing where all the stores and restaurants puts out the most creative scarecrows. It’s so much fun. We’ve only been there once during that time, but great. Now, we go up above San Simeon (Hearst Castle) to see the elephant seals.

At the end it started getting sunny as you can see in the next to the last picture. It remained foggy in Morro Bay the whole day though. I took this last picture of the elephant seals because I loved the fact one dude had his little flipper/arm on the other dude. These are males this time of year. I say it’s the Kirk and Spock of Elephant Seals!

No idea what I will work on this week. I know I hope to finish First Impressions. Anything else is up in the air!

Ramblings of the Week, August 21, 2017

So on Saturday, we went to Channel Islands Harbor for the Chowder Fest. It was fun tasting the different chowders and a little wine, too, but it was kind of warm even by the water to be tasting hot soup. Afterward, we went back to my friend’s house and had some wine while sitting out in his front yard. Then we went to a Cajun place for dinner. It was a long day for me.

This week, I am itching to get a new chapter of You are the Light That’s Leading Me done but I have to be a certain mindset for that because of uber angst. So we will see. I’d like to get First Impressions finished and maybe a new chapter of Didn’t We Almost Have it All. It’s going to be a tight week for me though so we will see.

This weekend coming up is my wonderful getaway to Morro Bay

MB

I cannot wait. I will be gone Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. It’s more money than I should be spending, not going to lie, but I am going anyway and I know I will have a fantastic time.

But it also means a little less updating. I’ll get done what I can get done. Not going to worry about it.

We are only supposed to get a partial eclipse Monday between 9 and 11ish I think I read on the LA Times site. I’ll probably head outside to see what the sky looks like. And yes, I know not to go blind, *SMH* You are NEVER supposed to look at the sun people. They really think we are all idiots. Updated to add a picture of what we saw here in Southern California. Hope everyone has a decent week.

I Have Returned

Yes I am back. I am so exhausted I don’t have time to post anything else yet, but will get up a post later this week. I hope to update something too but not sure what or when.

You can have one picture for now.

chris-pine-all-smiles-for-his-flight-out-of-lax-airport03

At least he’s growing hair back! The stupid beard, though, too LOL

Weekend was pretty chill. I spent most of it not doing anything, really, and that was fine with me. I did do a few chores like laundry that can’t really be put off.

The next two weekends include required social functions so it was nice to have this lull.

I looked at the calendar today and realized it’s only six weeks until my Yellowstone trip. I’ll be incommunicado for the most part from June 11-June 18. We fly out the morning of June 11 and fly home the evening of June 18. I bought the flights a week or so ago and damn they were expensive. You gotta connect too in other cities. On the way we connect through Denver and on the way back we connect through Salt Lake. The airport nearest our destination is Bozeman. Anyway, I know it will be here before I know it.

Over the weekend I chose to delete a work in progress on AO3. The plain truth was I didn’t feel like working on it at present and since it hasn’t garnered much attention, including from the individual who asked me to write it, I decided to delete it. I’ve saved a copy of it in case I ever get back to it, but there are no guarantees. It’s never a good feeling to delete something that some readers may have enjoyed and been following, but bottom line, I needed to do this for myself.

This week I will be updating Dating a Vulcan  and Young and Beautiful . I am not sure about anything else since I have decided to slow down on my updating whenever I can. I have other obligations after all. I might get the next chapter of What Happened to Spock done but there are no guarantees.

As usual we seemed to have skipped over Spring and gone straight to Summer. It’s hot here already. There are rumors that next week may not be as hot but I don’t believe it. May is typically warm here.

I’ve watched numerous episodes of a murder mystery series that originated in Great Britain many years ago now.  Midsummer Murders. The first six seasons are my favorite because I absolutely adore the incredibly adorable Sergeant from those seasons that assists the Chief Inspector. My friend, Kris, is right there with me. Anyway, I recently decided to re-watch his episodes because I honestly think he’s one of my favorite characters ever and he’s cute besides, so, lol, anyway. He had my favorite line of the week.

In an episode about an old folk’s home, he, Troy, is talking with his boss, the chief inspector, Barnaby.

Troy: Who would want to be 89?

Barnaby: Someone who’s 88.

Midweek Ramblings 03/15 Edition

Okay so I went to see Logan last night. It was okay. Better than the previous Wolverine movies but still not that thrilling to me. I guess for me the original X-Men movies were the best and the recent offerings are just meh. Was nice to see Patrick Stewart of course as I am a big fan of him, especially in Star Trek. My biggest issue with Logan was I thought it went on too long and had to many ‘action’ scenes.

Yesterday these arrived. And they are ‘beyond’ cool. LOL.

Mugs

Here are some pictures from my recent adventures. The pictures with the house and gazebo are from a winery called Graveyard. They had a chocolate port there called Deliverance. Yummy. The picture with the rock in the distance in the water is Morro Rock. I will be seeing it much closer April 01.

Mid-Week Ramblings

As I indicated in my latest update on AOS, Young and Beautiful, I am taking a bit of a break from posting.

I’ll be around Wednesday and Thursday, but will be working on something else for those days, and then I will be off on my wine tasting weekend in Paso Robles Friday-Sunday. Probably won’t have written anything to post until Tuesday of next week.

I think next up on the spreadsheet is Forever I am With You, so likely that is what I will update some time next week.

And speaking of upcoming vacations, as I think I have said, we are going to Yellowstone Park in June. Well next January looks like we are off on another Caribbean Cruise. The last one was fun and this time a group of us are going and we are getting rooms with Balconies and special spa access and privileges. I think most of the destinations are places we’ve been to but there is one we haven’t which is Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic.

In the meantime, myself and the great grand M are going to Morro Bay for the weekend of April 01. I cannot wait. We have a balcony room with a view of the ocean and bay. This is a favorite getaway of ours.

Last night we went to see Get Out and it turned out to be a pretty decent movie. I thought it was going to be horror but it was more a thriller where you ended up thinking, what is with these weirdos? I think next Tuesday (Tuesdays are cheap here so that’s why we go) we will probably see Logan. We usually wait until the following week to see popular movies until the crowds get a little thinner. Except Star Trek. I must see that right away always.

Speaking of, it seems like they are going ahead with Star Trek 4. I have mixed feelings about this. Of course I want to see Pinto in it and everyone else and the idea of having Jim’s daddy in the form of Chris Hemsworth is an intriguing one. But I don’t want to see more of the Spock/Uhura crap and I know I will and I just don’t want to go there yet again. Everyone but JJ Abrams agrees it’s a stupid, ridiculous plot point. It even made watchmojos list on youbtube of pointless romances in movies.

So yeah, I love Star Trek and I want to see them make more, especially since so many were convinced that Beyond was too much of a failure to make another, and I like to say, fuck you to all those critics and idiots who think you have to make 900 Million or you aren’t a success, but part of me wishes they would just let it go because I know Spock with Uhura will once more be shoved down our throats.

Well, that’s probably more than I wanted to say, but there you have it.
