Saving…

Christmas may be over but the flashes just keep coming…until the end of the month that is!

Jim was surprised when Uhura approached him on the observation deck. Generally when he came here to ruminate, no one dared to disturb him by some unwritten code.

“What are you doing here?”

Jim glanced at her, surprised she had asked him the question he’d been about to ask her. “Isn’t that my line?”

She shook her head, her ponytail swaying behind her. “Why I’m here should be obvious. Looking for you. But you…that I don’t know.”

“Where should I be, Lieutenant?”

“By his side, in the medbay. He was injured protecting you, Captain.”

“I know that,” Jim said softly. “Bones said he’ll be okay. Shouldn’t you be there?”

“Oh, I intend to. But he wants you. Are you really this thick? Spock loves me and I love him. That has never changed.”

Jim winced. He couldn’t help it.

Uhura snorted. “But I’m not the one he’s in love with.”

Jim eyed her.

She rolled her eyes. “You, Captain. Spock’s in love with you. How can you not know that? Don’t you feel anything for him?”

Jim narrowed his eyes. “My feelings are of no concern to you.”

She huffed. “But they are of concern to Spock. And even if all you feel for him is friendship, you need to be by his side.”

He knew she was right, but he wanted to remain stubborn. Because, damn it, he was angry. Furious with Spock for putting his own life in danger just for him. And he knew, yes, he did, he knew Spock hadn’t protected his captain, he had protected Jim. And yes, there was a huge difference.

Uhura was staring at him too intently, too much like she could read his mind. She crossed her arms in front of her chest. “How can you be mad at him for saving you?”

Jim blew out a breath. “Aren’t you?”

“No! Don’t you remember with Krall…?”

“That was your captain.” He paused. “And your ship.”

“And my friend. My family. Wouldn’t you have done the same? For your ship and us, yeah, you did. But for us as individuals.”

“Yes.”

“Why would it or should it be different for Spock?”

“I don’t want him sacrificing himself for me.”

“He didn’t. He saved you and he’s going to be all right. Why in the world are you up here sulking instead of telling him how much you love him right back?”

“I…” Jim gave her a tiny smile. “I don’t know.”

She hugged him. “Tell him I’ll come see him later. Now go.”

Jim went and the minute he got to the medbay, Bones just pointed.

Spock was sitting up in bed. He looked vaguely surprised to see Jim. “Captain…”

Jim just shook his head, put his hand on Spock’s jaw, leaned down and kissed him.

He murmured against Spock’s mouth, “Jim.”

The Love of a Lifetime, July 24, 2018

“Please.” Spock’s eyes were pleading. “Do not.”

“Spock, baby, I’m not trying to upset you.”

“But you are. Every time you bring this up it pains me greatly. As a Vulcan, you are my mate, my husband, my link to everything, until one of us dies. Asking me to put you away in some cold, stark, lonely place is like asking me cut off a piece of me.”

“I thought Vulcans didn’t do dramatics.”

“Jim. Please. My control is not what it once was and I—”

He turned away but not before I saw that his eyes were filling with tears. And just like that I felt like the biggest asshole in the universe making my Vulcan husband cry.

“Oh, Spock, honey, I’m sorry.” I went to him then, putting my arms around him. He hugged me back fiercely. “You win, babe. We won’t be separated. Ever.”

Midweek Ramblings 03/15 Edition

Okay so I went to see Logan last night. It was okay. Better than the previous Wolverine movies but still not that thrilling to me. I guess for me the original X-Men movies were the best and the recent offerings are just meh. Was nice to see Patrick Stewart of course as I am a big fan of him, especially in Star Trek. My biggest issue with Logan was I thought it went on too long and had to many ‘action’ scenes.

Yesterday these arrived. And they are ‘beyond’ cool. LOL.

Mugs

Here are some pictures from my recent adventures. The pictures with the house and gazebo are from a winery called Graveyard. They had a chocolate port there called Deliverance. Yummy. The picture with the rock in the distance in the water is Morro Rock. I will be seeing it much closer April 01.

A lost article returned to it’s owner was my prompt.

“Ambassador Spock?”

Spock stiffened before turning around. It was still odd to be called ambassador. That was a title more suited to his long deceased counterpart. And yet…it was what he was now.

He turned to face the young officer.

“Yes, Ensign?”

The ensign looked impossibly young. Blond hair, blue eyes. It reminded him of—

But no.

The ensign cleared his throat. “I was going through the admiral’s things. And I found this.”

He held out his closed fist toward Spock and Spock had no choice but to open his palm to receive it.

It was a simple gold ring with Vulcan words carved into it that were far too familiar and painful now to think of. It felt heavy and burdensome in his hand now and yet he closed his fingers around it and pulled his hand close to his side.

The ensign’s tongue came out and licked at his lips. “I-I think he’d have wanted you to have it, sir.”

For a moment words were too difficult to form but Spock made himself nod. For a long time he merely stared at the young man.

Until finally, reddening slightly, the ensign turned to leave.

“Thank you, David,” Spock managed to say.

David stopped, but he did not turn around. “You’re welcome.”

30 Things You Didn’t Know About Me (Maybe)

  • I’d never read Tolkien in school though many of my peers had. My first experience with it was when I saw Lord of the Rings. I fell in love with Hobbits, Elves, Humans, and Dwarves and ended up going to see the trilogy more than once. I own all three films. I actually read the books after I saw the movies and slogged through them. It was difficult but I found it a rewarding experience. I never did read The Hobbit nor have I seen the Hobbit films. I tried to watch part of the first one on Television and grew quickly disinterested.
  • I had never read the Harry Potter books prior to seeing the first movie. I loved the movies though. I preferred Richard Harris as Dumbledore, but alas he had to go and die. I thought he was a fabulous actor in everything he did and to me he was a more sympathetic and whimsical Dumbledore. I own all of the movies from this series too. I bought the books but in all honesty I found them nearly impossible to read.
  • I’ve always loved Star Trek. I can’t say I initially shipped Kirk and Spock but I certainly did later and well before the reboot movies. I’ve loved and watched all versions of Star Trek except I still haven’t seen Voyager or Enterprise. My plan is to someday. Like most, I hated the movie Generations for what it did to Kirk (And Spock, really, because of the whole Antonia nonsense).
  • I was ecstatic when the first Star Trek reboot movie came out and I loved it. Seeing it multiple times. When I first saw it, though I agreed Jim was cute, I didn’t go crazy for him. It wasn’t until I owned the movie on DVD that my obsession with Chris began. I also began taking note of Zach. Once I did that, my fanfiction “career” began. I never ever liked the Spock/Uhura pairing because I already shipped Kirk and Spock from TOS.
  • I’ve probably seen every episode of Ironside, Colombo, McMillan & Wife, and Murder She Wrote
  • I had a gigantic crush on Rutger Hauer in Ladyhawke. He was so badass with his armor and giant sword and turning into a wolf. Such a romantic, tragic tale. But it annoyed the crap out of me that she only ever called his hero, Etienne Navarre by his last name.
  • I liked the first three Star Wars movies well enough but I still wonder what the fuss is about
  • I own Halloween and Halloween 2
  • I didn’t learn to drive until I was in my 30s
  • I loved the show The Wonder Years
  • I loved the mystery and weirdness of Twin Peaks until they made it about demon possession
  • I drink cream with a little coffee (this is referred to by me as the Coffee of Love)
  • I like beer and wine but I am not much of a mixed drink drinker
  • I love every kind of seafood but tilapia. I even eat it hardcore raw like sashimi
  • I’ve tried frogs legs (sorry Kermit), snails, and rabbit (didn’t like any of them)
  • I do not like ham but I love bacon and pork chops
  • I’ve needed glasses since the 9th grade
  • I’ve considered the FBI, acting, journalism, and historian as careers in the past
  • I prefer Stephen King over Dean Koontz but have widely read both
  • My favorite move used to be The Godfather. I still like it a lot but it’s been taken over a long time ago.
  • I took German in high school
  • Eeyore once pinched my butt
  • I used to voraciously read books on the mob (Lucky Luciano, Myer Lansky, Bugsy Segal)
  • I freaking love the first 6 seasons of Midsomer Murders
  • I loved the first two seasons of American Horror Story (Zach was in both, coincidence? I think not), but haven’t been able to stomach the gore and horror of any other seasons
  • I actually liked the movie Agent 47: Hitman with Zach and own it. He looked hot in it
  • I think the first two Spiderman’s with Toby Maguire were the best superhero movies ever made. Next comes the first Avengers.
  • I love the main theme from Cider House Rules (it’s also the theme for the commercials for Michigan’s “Pure Michigan” tourist commercials narrated by Tim Allen)
  • I sometimes just sit and play Spirk videos for hours
  • I love role playing video games and was a huge fan of Final Fantasy

Inevitable

Flash Fic Friday doesn’t start until next week, but I decided to post an old one-shot of mine to get the ball rolling. This debuted in my original One-Shot Collection way back in 2014 now.

“I’m sorry, Spock.”

Jim looked out over the balcony at the ocean, a breeze ruffling his hair, and chilling his body. What did it matter anyway?

“I should have been able to save you.”

He closed his eyes, letting the tears squeeze out and onto his cheeks. For a moment, maybe several, he just stood there letting the tears fall. He already felt like he’d been crying for days. He thought maybe he’d be crying forever.

Opening his eyes, he stared down into the cup of Vulcan tea he held in his hands. Jesus, he didn’t think he could handle this. This was too much.

“Jim? You should come back inside. It’s freezing out there.”

“I don’t care, Bones.”

The sliding door opened all the way. “Yeah, well, as your doctor and your friend, I do care. Get your ass back inside.”

Jim sighed and drank the last sips of the tea and followed Bones into the apartment. He shielded his eyes against the lights. “Does it have to be so fucking bright in here?”

“Lights 25%,” Bones called out and the lights dimmed. “Better?”

His throat felt raw. Hell he felt raw all over. ‘Yeah. I need more tea.”

“You gonna do nothing but drink that Vulcan tea? When was the last time you ate?”

“The-the day he died.”

“Jesus, Jim.” Bones went into the kitchen ahead of him. “Let me fix you something.”

“I’m not hungry.”

“The hell you aren’t.” Bones scowled. “There was nothing you could have done, Jim.”

“Bones—”

“Nothing. And no one—not Spock or anyone—blames you.”

“This is so much harder than I ever thought it would be,” Jim said softly, his breath hitching. “I knew—when it happened…if it did—it would be horrible. But this. God. It’s like I’m being torn apart, Bones.”

“It’s going to be all right, Jim. Once you get past the funeral, maybe it will ease a bit.”

“How can it? It’s…it’s Spock.”

Bones eyes softened. “I know, kid. Sit down. I’ll bring you something to eat and some more of that tea.”

Jim sat at the dining room table in Bones’ apartment. His head pounded. His heart felt like it was being torn from his chest.

Spock.

The door of the apartment opened. Jim stood, breath caught in his throat. Hoping. Begging.

“T’hy’la.”

Jim’s breath came out in a rush as he flung himself at Spock, who wrapped his arms around him so tight, Jim thought it might break his ribs and he didn’t care. The tears came as Spock held him. All the love Spock felt, came through the bond at him, and Jim let it heal him, help him.

“I am sorry it took me so long to make it here,” Spock said softly, kissing Jim’s forehead. “I could not get an earlier shuttle from New Vulcan.”

“You’re here now.”

“I grieve with thee.”

“I can’t believe he’s gone.”

Spock kissed him again. “My counterpart lived a long life, Ashaya. I am certain that he is happy to be with his own T’hy’la again.”

Jim pulled back, his eyes filled with tears. “Do you think they are together again?”

“I am certain.”

“I hope so.” He hugged Spock again. “God, it’s like losing you. I can’t bear that.”

“I am here, Jim. I will always be with you.” Spock took his hands. “Come, I know you have not eaten for days. Dr. McCoy has made you something. Will you eat for us?”

Jim nodded. “Okay.”

And though Jim knew he’d lost one Spock, his own Spock–his precious T’hy’la–was here with him. And would be for many years to come.
