Christmas may be over but the flashes just keep coming…until the end of the month that is!
Jim was surprised when Uhura approached him on the observation deck. Generally when he came here to ruminate, no one dared to disturb him by some unwritten code.
āWhat are you doing here?ā
Jim glanced at her, surprised she had asked him the question heād been about to ask her. āIsnāt that my line?ā
She shook her head, her ponytail swaying behind her. āWhy Iām here should be obvious. Looking for you. But youā¦that I donāt know.ā
āWhere should I be, Lieutenant?ā
āBy his side, in the medbay. He was injured protecting you, Captain.ā
āI know that,ā Jim said softly. āBones said heāll be okay. Shouldnāt you be there?ā
āOh, I intend to. But he wants you. Are you really this thick? Spock loves me and I love him. That has never changed.ā
Jim winced. He couldnāt help it.
Uhura snorted. āBut Iām not the one heās in love with.ā
Jim eyed her.
She rolled her eyes. āYou, Captain. Spockās in love with you. How can you not know that? Donāt you feel anything for him?ā
Jim narrowed his eyes. āMy feelings are of no concern to you.ā
She huffed. āBut they are of concern to Spock. And even if all you feel for him is friendship, you need to be by his side.ā
He knew she was right, but he wanted to remain stubborn. Because, damn it, he was angry. Furious with Spock for putting his own life in danger just for him. And he knew, yes, he did, he knew Spock hadnāt protected his captain, he had protected Jim. And yes, there was a huge difference.
Uhura was staring at him too intently, too much like she could read his mind. She crossed her arms in front of her chest. āHow can you be mad at him for saving you?ā
Jim blew out a breath. āArenāt you?ā
āNo! Donāt you remember with Krallā¦?ā
āThat was your captain.ā He paused. āAnd your ship.ā
āAnd my friend. My family. Wouldnāt you have done the same? For your ship and us, yeah, you did. But for us as individuals.ā
āYes.ā
āWhy would it or should it be different for Spock?ā
āI donāt want him sacrificing himself for me.ā
āHe didnāt. He saved you and heās going to be all right. Why in the world are you up here sulking instead of telling him how much you love him right back?ā
āIā¦ā Jim gave her a tiny smile. āI donāt know.ā
She hugged him. āTell him Iāll come see him later. Now go.ā
Jim went and the minute he got to the medbay, Bones just pointed.
Spock was sitting up in bed. He looked vaguely surprised to see Jim. āCaptainā¦ā
Jim just shook his head, put his hand on Spockās jaw, leaned down and kissed him.
He murmured against Spockās mouth, āJim.ā

(I feel like I should exert a bit of control on myself and save these last ones after Christmas to read in January when our flashes are yanked away and we’re forced to go through withdrawal. But…..I just can’t. It’s like more presents under the tree after Christmas. You can’t just LEAVE them lying there!)

Exactly what we should see in ST 4. I’ve told you over the 2 1/2 years we’ve communicated, that I hope there’s so much danger and drama in ST 4 and at the end when they finally conquer all, Jim and Spock look at each other from opposite sides of the screen, hesitate, and then RUN to each, falling into each others’ arms with a deep kiss.
THAT’S what ST 4 needs.
