Cosmic Love, Chapter 10, April 28, 2021

Spock rather surprised himself with those words, his own actions. But somehow, even though he hadn’t even been touching Jim at the time, he’d known what Jim’s thoughts were. And he relished in them. In the very thought that this human was as attracted to him as Spock was to him.

He supposed he should be alarmed by this overwhelming attraction, but he found he could not be, illogical though it might be.

“Okay,” Jim whispered, his face flushed a becoming pink. “Uh. You-you have the-the stuff?”

Spock’s mind blanked. “The stuff?”

Jim licked his lips. “Lubricant. You know for-uh-penetration.”

Spock blinked. Then nodded slowly. “Yes. Yes, I realize. But no, I do not. I hadn’t thought…it was not planned.”

Jim laughed then. “Yeah, not by me either. Well, that sorta sucks.”

“We could go out and attempt to acquire it.”

“Sure.” Jim bit his lip. “Or we could, um, maybe try something else.”

“Something else?”

Jim put his hand on Spock’s neck and drew him forward for a kiss that Spock eagerly reciprocated. For a time, they merely kissed, though it was hardly mere to Spock, then sort of just breathed in each other.

Finally, Jim looked into Spock’s eyes, his gaze a saturated blue he had never experienced on Vulcan or perhaps anywhere, dropped his voice to a bare whisper and said, “Have you heard of a sixty-nine?”

And right there his pulse leaped. Though inexperienced himself, Spock was not naïve, and he knew sexual terms and slang quite well.

He stared into those eyes. Swallowed hard.

“Yes, I am familiar.” Jim smiled, it was wolfish and sweet at the same time. He flicked his head toward Spock’s bed. “Shall we?”

Cosmic Love, Chapter 7, April 21, 2021

Now that Jim stood before the door of Spock’s dorm, he had second and third doubts. He’d come without his glasses, usually only needing them for close up. He’d worn a nice shirt in blue that he knew flattered the color of his eyes and charcoal slacks that he knew were just tight enough to accentuate his rounded butt.

Was it too much?

Jim sighed and knocked.

He was a little startled when the door was opened almost immediately. And even more startled that it was opened by Uhura.

He was disoriented and thought maybe he had the wrong room.

But then just beyond her was Spock.

“Sorry,” Jim mumbled. “I didn’t mean to interrupt.”

“You are not,” Spock said, coming forward to hold the door open wider. “Nyota was just leaving. Goodnight.”

She smiled slightly in Spock’s direction. “Night.”

And she was gone, Jim staring after her.

“Please come in, Jim.”

Somewhat cautiously, Jim entered Spock’s dorm.

“I really didn’t mean to interrupt anything.”

“You were not as I said. Nyota is merely a friend. We had been discussing one of our mutual courses, but she needed to leave for a date.” Spock closed the door. “It is a pleasure to see you.”

“Is it? Good.”

“Indeed. You have frequently been on my mind since I was at your dorm. Please have a seat. Can I get you anything?”

“Not just now.” Jim noticed a sofa in the main room, so he went and took a seat there. “We have to exchange contact information, Spock, if this is going to work. I mean, cool that Uhura is just your friend, but it could have been pretty awkward if she wasn’t.”

Spock also sat and then he said, “I do agree. However, I wish to make it quite clear that there is no one else that I am pursuing in that type of relationship besides yourself.”

Jim smiled genuinely now, feeling somewhat relieved. “That does make me feel a lot better. I came over to ask you, well, my friend, Bones, Leonard McCoy, and his girlfriend, Christine, has asked me over to dinner on Friday, and they said I could bring someone, so I wondered if—”

“Yes.”

Jim laughed. “Okay. So you’ll come?”

“I will, yes.”

Jim nodded. “Great. I asked that they have something you’d be able to eat. So everything should be good.” He put his hands on his knees to get up. “I’ll come and pick you up at around six. So if there’s nothing else, I’ll get out of your hair.”

“Jim?”

“Yeah?”

“Do you currently have plans?”

“Well. No.”

“Have you eaten?”

“No.”

“Would you stay here then and let me make you dinner?”

Jim sat back down. “I would like that.”

March 31, 2021 Flash Fic

This is the last of the 100 word flashes folks. I hope you enjoyed them. I don’t know what April brings yet. We will see.

Spock woke suddenly from a very bad dream. He did not normally have nightmares. But they were not outside the realm of possibility.

“Jim.”

The name he had cried hoarsely in the dream was still settling in his raw throat.

Spock rose from his bed and went through the bathroom he shared with his captain. He quietly stepped into Jim’s quarters and padded barefoot to the side of the bed.

Jim was turned on his side, fast asleep.

Spock could breathe again. He touched his index finger gently to Jim’s cheek.

“T’hy’la.”

And soon Spock would tell him.

“Jim, how many times have I told you—”

“A million. But it’s Spock, not me.”

Spock would have fallen to the deck of the transporter room if Jim did not have his arm around him to hold him up. He felt as weak as a newborn infant and he knew he was losing blood. Could see the green smears of that blood on Jim’s uniform shirt.”

“Damn it! Get a gurney here stat!”

Spock felt others grab him and lift him onto the medical equipment as Jim’s face swam before him.

“You’ll be okay, Spock. I love you.”

“Top o’ the Morning to you.”

Spock stared at Jim. He had just stepped into the turbolift.

Jim grinned. “Sorry. Saint Patrick’s Day.” He gestured to his green crisscross shirt.  “That’s why I’m wearing this shirt today.”

Spock’s gaze swept over Jim. “It is fairly appealing. It hugs your body quite well.”

“You’re going to make me blush.”

Spock rolled his eyes and faced front. “Hardly. I don’t believe there is anything that would make you blush, Captain.”

“So, according to old tradition, I should be able to pinch you. No green.”

As the door opened, Spock said, “Green underwear.”

The small boy came out of the bathroom and walked straight into the living room.

“Did you wash your hands?” Jim asked.

“Yes, Daddy.”

Jim smiled slightly. “Let me see.”

The boy held up his hands, palms out.

“Good. Perfect. You hungry, David?”

David nodded, eagerly.

“What do you want to eat?”

David scrunched up his face in thought.

They both turned toward the door when they heard the sound of a hover car door slamming.

“Is that…?”

David turned away from Jim, food forgotten and rushed to the door just as it opened.

Jim smiled. “Welcome home, Spock.”

His first officer lay still as a corpse on the biobed and Jim was very much afraid of the reason for that. He wanted to see if Spock was cold to the touch, but didn’t want to get close enough to do so for fear he’d find out exactly why.

It made no sense.

But when did Jim ever make sense?

A hundred scenarios ran through his head as he watched Bones work on him. All the ways he could have told Spock exactly how he felt. Never had. And maybe now, never could.

“Bones?”

“He’s in a healing trance.”

Jesco’s idea:

A group of Vulcan delegates is hitching a ride with the Enterprise, including some of Spock’s childhood bullies who haven’t changed. Neither has the reaction of the other Vulcans (as in ignoring it). What’s new is that Spock has a captain/friend/boyfriend who’s not going to stand by silently.

“Captain, can I have a word with you before you go?”

Jim glanced back at Uhura, who beckoned him from the side, just as he was about to board the transport shuttle from the Space Station to the nearby planet of, Masque 2.

He exchanged a look with his first officer.

“You go ahead, Mister Spock. I’ll be right there.”

Jim headed back to where Uhura waited, arms crossed over her chest. He knew that look and really wasn’t in the mood, but he supposed he had no choice but to listen.

“Yes, Lieutenant?”

“I wanted to warn you not to embarrass Spock.”

“Embarrass Spock? What…”

“Listen, I know you won’t do it on purpose. But you’re a touchy-feely kind of guy and normally Spock is very all right with that. He even likes it. But you’re going to be on this transport shuttle with a bunch of other Vulcans and you can’t be trying to hold his hand or any of that other stuff. They’re going to be judging him and you.”

A muscle in Jim’s jaw ticked. “Do you really think I’d be stupid enough to start necking with Spock on the shuttle or something?”

She rolled her eyes. “Of course not. But this stuff is much more subtle. They’ll even be watching how close you sit. Just…pretend you two are not a couple and you should be fine.”

“All right, sure. Anything else?”

“No. Good luck. And try not to let your temper get the best of you.”

“I so don’t have a temper.”

He was tempted to stick his tongue out at her but that was definitely uncaptainly so he didn’t. He turned and headed back toward the shuttle.

As he bet down to avoid making a show of himself by hitting his head, he could hear the occupants already talking.

“I can hardly believe they chose someone as inadequate as you, Spock.”

“You have not changed much since you were a child. Your eyes are still far too Human.”

“That tainted blood—”

Jim pulled out his PADD and started typing into it even as he walked into the main area of the shuttle where they all sat.

Spock sat alone on the one side. He stared straight ahead, his expression carefully blank.

On the other side, separated from Spock’s three bullies, sat a Vulcan couple, who were clearly trying to ignore everything else going on. They were, Jim knew, the biologists chosen for the mission. He figured between Spock and them, he wouldn’t need any other interpreters or scientists.

The other three had been recommended, but with Jim ultimately in charge…

“Gentlemen,” Jim addressed them. “I’m Captain Kirk. It’s been determined that your services are not required, and you are excused to leave this shuttle.”

They all stared at him.

Finally, one of them, Solak, Jim believed, said, “Determined by whom?”

“By me, the leader of this mission. Your skills are…less than ideal for what is needed.”

“I do not understand,” said the Vulcan sitting next to Solak.

“Then let me clear things up for you. “Jim smiled his very human smile. “Your qualifications have been reviewed and are deemed lacking.”

“In what way?”

“In every way. The shuttle is getting ready to depart, you need to be off. Now.”

They blinked at him a few times, then all rose at the same time, somewhat stiffly. He recognized the anger in them they tried so carefully to hide.

They began to walk past him to the exit.

“Your lack of qualifications for this mission have been duly noted on your records with the Vulcan Science Academy as well. Have a safe trip back to New Vulcan.”

Jim tried not to grin as he watched them leave. He turned to see what reaction the biologists had, but they looked as serene and unconcerned as before.

“Ensign Connors to Captain Kirk.”

He pushed the button the wall. “Kirk here.”

“All clear to depart on your signal, sir.”

“Take us out, Connors.

“Aye, Captain.”

Jim went over and sat by Spock.

“That was not necessary, Captain,” Spock said after a moment of contemplative silence.

Jim shrugged. “I deemed it to be.”

“I could have handled their being part of the mission.”

“You shouldn’t have to handle it, Spock.”

“Jim.”

He shook his head. “I need team members who are high-level collaborators. They clearly lacked the skills in that.”

Spock didn’t reply to that, but Jim felt him relax his rigid stance beside him. “You will not find our collaborative team rather thin now that we are three down?”

“I have confidence the remaining members can pick up the slack without trouble.”

“You are…ever interesting, Jim.”

Jim allowed himself to show his private Spock smile. “I’m glad you think so, Spock.”

“One thing I have learned since the beginning of our association is that you are never boring.”

“Would that be when you stood before the assembly and accused me of cheating?” Jim’s smile widened. “That beginning or…”

“I was thinking of then, yes,” Spock said, quickly.

Jim knew that Spock did not wish for him to mention the beginning of their romantic association. Three months earlier and an explosion of unstoppable passion between them. On the observation deck.

“Did you really put some sort of notation on their records?”

He nodded. “I sure did.”

Spock stared at him until Jim turned to look directly at him.

“I hate bullies,” Jim said softly. “And they can go straight to hell.”

When the mission was successfully concluded, Jim would show Spock just how very precious and treasured he really was.

He was a little surprised when Spock slipped his hand discreetly next to Jim’s, touching their fingers. He didn’t comment on it or tell Spock what Uhura had said, but it felt good and…right.

J’s Prompt:

In the cave when Prime told Jim that emotional transference is an
effect of the meld.

Everyone talks about the emotional transference JIM received.

How about the emotional transference PRIME received from Jim?

On Delta Vega

Jim turned away from the old Vulcan who claimed to be Spock, panting heavily. Tears blinded his vision. His heart hurt.

He vaguely heard the old Vulcan say something about “emotional transference”.

“Then you do feel?” Jim asked, not even sure why. He had never fallen into that ridiculous idea that Vulcans had no emotions.

“Yes,” Spock said.

There was something about his voice that had Jim turning. The old man had a hand resting on the wall of the ice cave. His eyes were half-closed, and he looked uncomfortable.

Jim hurried over, taking hold of his thin arms. “Are you all right? What’s wrong?”

He helped the old Vulcan over to sit on a smooth rock that appeared to resemble a chair almost. This place, this planet, was so cold. It seemed particularly cruel to strand Spock here. But then, Jim himself had been stranded here by Spock.

Jim crouched down beside him. “What is it?”

“Emotional transference works both ways I am afraid.”

Jim frowned. “Meaning?”

“I saw things…Jim.” Spock shook his head. “Your young life.”

“Oh.” Jim lowered his gaze and nodded. “Right. I didn’t mean for you to see all that.”

“I am aware, and I apologize. Knowing Jim, I would not have wanted you to experience what you have.”

“Life is life, I guess. We all have to make of it what we can.”

“That is true.” Spock reached out and took Jim’s hands in his, which was a surprise to Jim. He had never been shown kindness like this from a stranger, really, let alone someone claiming to be Spock, who’d angrily and coldly sent him here.

“Where you come from? Did I know my father?”

“He proudly lived to see you become Captain of the Enterprise.”

Jim took this in. “Going back in time, you changed all of our lives.”

“Yes,” Spock agreed. “And in some cases, yours, not for the better, I see.”

Spock still held onto Jim’s hands. Firmly and yet gently. Jim’s gaze rose and he stared into those brown eyes. There was something there…

“Spock, was your-your relationship. Just what was it with the me where you’re from?”

“You received emotional transference, Jim, what do you think?”

“I…”

Spock squeezed Jim’s hands then and then released them. “Do not think too hard on it for now, Jim. At some point, I believe it will become relevant. Right now there is an outpost some distance away that you and I must head for. We must get you safely back to the Enterprise so that you can become Captain, as you belong.”

Jim helped Spock up and shook his head, smiling slightly. “What did you see? From me? What emotional transference did you get?”

Spock hesitated. “I saw Frank, Tarsus, your mother, Sam, your feelings that you will never measure up to your father, to expectations, that you will never be loved. And all the emotions that surround those memories, those feelings.”

Jim sucked in a breath. “Wow. That kind of sucks. You-you got all that in a few seconds?”

“Our minds are extremely attuned.”

“They are?” Jim asked doubtfully.

“Yes. Come, Jim. There is no time to waste.”
