“What’s your favorite color?”

Spock barely glanced at his captain as he leaned over the science station to study the screen there. “What?” he asked distractedly.

“Your favorite color.”

Spock straightened and turned his full cool gaze on Kirk. “Did you actually just interrupt my study of this sector to ask me what my favorite color is?”

Undeterred, Kirk nodded. “What are you seeing?” He slipped past Spock, pretty much wedged himself between Spock’s body and the station to look at the screen.   “So, what is it? Some space anomaly?”

“Actually…there is currently nothing out of the ordinary,” Spock was forced to admit.

The captain straightened and gave Spock a very chilly smile. “So I actually didn’t interrupt anything.”

“Well.”

“Favorite color?” Kirk persisted.

“What does it matter? I have no particular preference or any color, Captain. The question is nonsensical.”

“So’s your big nose.”

Spock sighed.

But the captain had moved away and to his seat. Spock glanced Nyota’s way but she had a disapproving look on her face and somehow Spock decided it was directed at him rather than their captain.

“I want a landing party for Denton 4,” Kirk said a while later.

Spock stepped forward to volunteer to lead the party.

“Nope. I’m taking lead.”

“But—”

“To explore new worlds,” Jim said with a charming smile. “That’s what I signed up for.”

“Very well, but as science officer—”

“Nah, I’m taking Chekov.” Kirk turned to look at Nyota. “You up for it, Lieutenant?”

“Yes, sir,” she answered immediately.

“I’ll round out the party with Scotty and Bones.”

“Captain—”

“Yes, Mister Spock?”

“Nothing.”

When Spock stood beside the biobed staring at the unconscious body of his captain, McCoy came up to him and patted his arm.

“He’s going to be okay, Spock. You can go back to your post.”

He nodded but didn’t move. He didn’t move for a long time.

Until Kirk opened his eyes to stare at him.

“Hey.”

Spock blew out a long breath. “Blue.”

The captain frowned. “Huh?”

“My favorite color, Jim. Blue like your eyes.”

Bombay (Bombaby) Conclusion

Here it is folks, the end for now (if there is enough clamoring there will be a second fic)

Spock’s breath hitched and his arms came around the man, pulling him close. And all at once that connection he’d felt seemed to ignite.

Jim pulled back to look at Spock’s face. “That’s pretty cool? Do you feel that?”

“I do, T’hy’la.”

“That’s a Vulcan word?’

Spock nodded. “Yes. I—”

Jim stepped out of Spock’s arm and he had to fight to keep himself from seizing hold of Jim to draw him back.

“We should talk,” Jim said. “Is that food I smell?”

“I had brought home my dinner and left it in the hallway when I discovered someone had accessed my door.”

To Spock’s surprise, Jim laughed.

“Uh, yeah. Sorry. I did get permission though. If you want to talk to the guy out front.” Jim moved over to the door, opened it, and picked up the to-go bags Spock had left there. “You can go ahead and eat, if you want.’

Spock took the bags from Jim and brought them to the kitchenette. “Are you hungry?”

“I’m always hungry.”

Spock got out two plates as Jim perched on a small stood next to where Spock prepared their food.

“You must have a lot of questions.”

“I do, yes.” Spock’s gaze to meet Jim’s. “The most important one is, are you all right?”

“Yes, thanks to you. I can’t…” And here Jim’s voice cracked. He closed his eyes for a moment and Spock couldn’t stop himself for reaching for Jim’s hand. He was pleased when Jim allowed him to hold it. “I can’t tell you how grateful I am. I spent way too long in cat form.”

“I am gratified that your family was able to assist you.”

“You bringing me to them was definitely the right thing to do, but I’m sorry they hit you. Are you okay?”

“I am satisfactory. I do wish I would have been able to stay.”

“The family unit is very protective of our status,” Jim replied.

“And you are safe? Those that were after—”

“They’ve been taken care of for the moment. My family has some powerful Federation allies. You don’t need to fear them anymore, Spock. They’ve been neutralized.”

Spock didn’t think that sounded very good but he also thought he probably shouldn’t ask too many questions. If Jim said they were no longer a threat, then he believed him.

“I guess at some point my miraculous reemergence as being alive will come out,” Jim was saying. “I don’t know what that will mean for my Starfleet career or really anything. It’s strange not being Human for five years.”

Spock put a plate in front of him. “Eat.”

Jim gave him a smile. “Thank you. For this and for everything. And if it’s not too weird, I really want to get to know you better. A lot better.”

Spock exhaled slowly. “It is not too weird. I would like that as well.”

“Yeah?” Jim squeezed his hand, released it and picked up his fork. “So, uh, what does T’hy’la mean?”

Flash Fic, April 24, 2023

Jim sat alone at a two-seater table in the corner of a canteen restaurant on Space Station 12. He had his PADD with him, but at that moment he was people watching.

Half-listening for the beep from his PADD when he received a new message. He was waiting for one from Spock.

They’d been parted now for nearly four months and it was wearing on him.

Jim hadn’t accepted retirement, but he had accepted that he wouldn’t be captain of a starship anymore. Instead he was acting as the military head of this very space station.

And Spock had taken on the ambassadorial duties of his father when Sarek had been too unwell to complete them. Spock was spending his time between Earth, New Vulcan, and Space Station 12. And it seemed to Jim that his location got the least amount of attention from Spock.

Jim got it. He did. And it wouldn’t be forever.

The blood he’d received from Khan all those years prior had insured he would live a life far more matched to Spock’s and for that he was grateful. But he would very much like to spend that life with Spock more often.

Last time Spock was here, he’d been there only a month before leaving for New Vulcan. Jim had traveled four months ago for a visit with Spock on Earth, for a mere two weeks, and he’d had to return.

He spotted the Human woman the minute she’d entered the canteen. She was dressed all in shiny silver, a mini skirt with a halter top. Her white hair was pulled back in a pony-tail reminiscent of the way Uhura had once worn hers. Dangling from her ears were large silver hoop earrings. Even her makeup was silver, glittery. And she looked his way.

When she reached him, she sat down without invitation.

“Admiral Kirk.”

“Jody. I wasn’t aware you were on the Station.” Which annoyed him. He should be alerted to all who arrived. Some security.

She smirked. “Sorry, sir. I should have let you know I was coming. You’re alone?”

He shrugged. ”Unless you’re sitting on someone very tiny.”

Jody laughed. “You haven’t changed.”

“Did you expect I would?”

“No.” She sighed. “Where is he?”

“In class. He doesn’t get out for another two hours.” Jim sighed and picked up his coffee cup, taking a sip, then grimacing when it was cold. “He’ll be glad to see you.”

“What about you, Jim? Are you glad?”

“That ship sailed, as you know.”

“True. I’m just passing through. I’ll be on my way tomorrow, so you needn’t worry I’ll overstay my welcome.”

“Where are you off to?”

“I’ve taken a job on Caltos 6. Six-months. I wanted to see my son before I went.”

He nodded. “As I said, he’ll be glad to see you.”

“Where’s your husband?”

“Working.”

“You two, always busy.”

Jody, of course, had been Jim’s mistake before he and Spock ever got together. Back on a place just like this. Yorktown. They’d spent a few weeks together pretending to have a romance, Jim supposed. It was only ever sex for him as he loved Spock even back then, but he had liked her.

But then after she left, after it was over, she informed Jim she’d gotten pregnant. Their son, Thomas, stayed with Jim fulltime. Jody didn’t want to be tied down to a child, she’d been clear about that, but she did visit Thomas when she could, and they did have a loving if somewhat distant relationship.

“I’m waiting to hear from him now.”

“He’s coming to the canteen?”

“No. He’s on New Vulcan.”

“Oh.” She nodded. “I’ve got some things to take care of. Can I meet you at Thomas’ school in a couple of hours? Maybe we can have take-out together at your apartment.”

“Sure. Okay.”

She smiled, stood, and leaned down to kiss his forehead. “See you in a bit, Admiral.”

Jody turned around and walked right into a tall, thin Vulcan.

Jim stood up immediately, aware he was grinning like a fool. “Spock!”

Spock arched a brow at Jody and stepped around her to accept Jim’s embrace.

“I was waiting for your message.”

“I decided to surprise you,” Spock said. He looked at Jody. “Clearly this is your day to be surprised.”

“Nice to see you again, Spock,” Jody said. “Don’t worry I am leaving again tomorrow.”

“I was not, in fact, worried.”

“She’s going to eat with the family tonight. She wanted to see Tommy before she’s off on a six-month assignment,” Jim explained.

“She will be welcome.”

Jody laughed. “Doubtful, but I appreciate the sentiment. I will see you soon.”

Jim watched her walk away. He put his hands on Spock’s arms. ”Sorry about that. She did surprise me.”

“It is not your fault. And I am actually glad I will be here for her visit.”

“I don’t think I need protecting from Jody.”

Spock gave him a reproachful look. “I do not think she will attack you, but I wish to be there with my family.”

Jim linked his arm with Spock’s. “And we want you there, too. How long are you here this time?”

“For the foreseeable future, Ashaya.”

And now with Spock beside him, Jim knew he was ready to face anything. Even his son’s mother.

Rambling in April

I plan to end Bombay within a few short weeks. Once that’s done it will eventually go up on AO3.

I don’t know yet what I plan on here for May. I’d like to start getting work done on the Vulcan Jim/Vulcan Spock story that came from Granted but I intend to wrote some erotic scenes for that so I don’t think that’s appropriate for here. I still want to write a sequel to DWAHIA too but again, probably not here. Who knows I may never get to all the things I have planned. Sigh.

So as I said, no idea what’s in store on the blog for May and if I will do a continuing story on here like Bombay once it is done.

I’m busy busy in May as I already advised I have 2 trips for May. Oh and May 8th is Evening’s birthday which is a Monday so if she wants a flash for that, please let me know what you’d like to see, Evening. Nothing too complicated PLEASE. LOL

Hard to believe also in May that it’ll be 2 years since Ma passed. Strange how we think about stuff like that. I think we’ll be going to the cemetery that day and then having a special dinner that she used to make for everyone.

Luna was sick this past weekend so that was nerve wracking. She’s doing much better but we were at one point considering a trip to the emergency vet.

Haven’t been for any walks lately so I don’t have any pretty pictures to post so you get a freebie one from this site.

Thanks for listening!

Here’s your part 2 and now the good news is next Monday’s flash is already written, so it’s a win-win

Spock hoped everything would be perfect.

He’s set it up so it would be. But sometimes his captain…Jim…was hard to read. He’d taken his cue from the song Jim had been crooning in the shower.

Fortunately, Yorktown had a restaurant that was right near water (the very water canal the Franklin had crashed into when dealing with Balthazar Edison). There was a private table reachable by a footpath. There the table had been set with Earth’s usual romantic cliches,  white tablecloth, candlelight, and roses. Spock was likely overdoing.

Jim showed up right on time dressed in navy slacks and an off-white long sleeved shirt. He looked gorgeous and Spock had to catch his breath.

Jim gazed at the table and the surroundings rather quizzically. “Who is this all for?”

“You, Jim.”

He shook his head. “Spock, I don’t need…are you wooing me?”

“Yes,” Spock said, gravely.

Jim laughed then but it was a good laugh. “Okay. Where do you want me?”

Spock gestured to a chair and when Jim approached, Spock pulled out the chair for Jim, and the pushed it in gently after he was seated. Then Spock sat across from him.

“I never took you for a romantic, Spock.”

“I am not. Or at least I have never viewed myself that way.”

“You weren’t romantic when you were with Uhura?”

Spock poured Jim wine from a decanter. “She would say I was at times. But…I do not wish to discuss was my past relationship with Nyota. My focus is on you.”

“I’ll drink to that.” Jim picked up his glass and took a sip. “Good choice.”

“Just because alcohol does not affect me in the same way it does you, does not mean I do not know anything about it,” Spock replied. “I am also aware of your preferences.”

At that moment a female violinist appeared close enough for them to hear her music but far enough for her to not interfere with their own conversation. The soft strains of Moon River played.

Jim’s eyes widened. “Is that…it is. Spock, all of this.” He gestured wildly with his hands. “It’s not necessary.”

“I feel that it is.”

“But I’m not…” he trailed off and looked away.

“Worthy?”

Jim nodded, his gaze returning to Spock’s uncertainly.

“You are worth everything.” Spock stretched out his hand between them, offering his hand palm up. Jim placed his hand in Spock’s and he clasped their hands together. “You are worth more than anyone to me. I cherish you.”

Jim stared at him in silence for a moment and then he smiled slowly. “Yeah?”

Spock’s lips curved. “I would not mind some sort of reciprocal statement at this time.”

Jim laughed and it was a joyous sound. “I cherish the hell out of you, too.”

“Moon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you’re goin’, I’m goin’ your way

Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after the same rainbow’s end
Waitin’ ’round the bend
My huckleberry friend
Moon river and me”

“I was unaware you sang, Captain.”

Jim, embarrassed to be caught crooning in the shower, laughed and turned off the indulgent water spray and reached for a towel to wrap around himself. He stepped out of the shower.

“Sorry, was I taking too long?”

Spock kept his gaze averted. “No. I was drawn by your lyrical voice. I thought perhaps you were playing music and then was surprised to hear it was you.”

He laughed again. “You put in for promotion, Spock?”

“Captain?”

“Thought maybe you’re trying to butter me up.”

Spock frowned. “Butter you up?”

“You know what? Never mind. Thanks for the compliment. The shower is all yours.”

“Captain?”

Jim turned just as he was about to exit their shared bathroom in their temporary apartment quarters on Yorktown. “Yeah?”

“Would you like to join me for dinner?”

“You and Uhura?”

“Nyota has other plans.” Spock paused. “With Mr. Scott. They are seeing each other.”

Jim blinked. “They are?”

“Dinner?”

Jim smiled. “A date, Spock?”

He was joking of course.

“Yes.”

“Uh. Yeah. Okay. Sure. Dinner.”

He exited the bathroom and as he did so he could hear Spock humming Moon River.

Flash Fic, April 12, 2023

He almost didn’t make it in time. Spock thought he might not, but then as they were about to hand the infant over to Spock, Jim appeared, somewhat out of breath.

His smile was radiant as he looked down at the tiny child Spock cradled in his arms.

“He’s just so beautiful,” Jim said. “Perfect.”

“As next to perfect as it is possible to be.”

“I’m sorry I’m late. I had a million meetings before I could get away.” Jim moved closer.

“You are here now.”

Jim stared down at their newly born son. Created with biological material from Spock and a surrogate Vulcan female. The boy was 3/4s Vulcan. The process had not only given them a child to raise but helped with the Vulcan population, which was why they’d ultimately decided on Spock’s involvement. But Spock was not nearly done with trying to convince Jim.

He handed over the sleeping infant to Jim, who’s smile got brighter if that was possible. Seeing his husband and son together filled him with an overwhelming emotional warmth and contentment.

“Now we should have one with you,” Spock spoke up, unable not to voice his opinion once more.

Jim shook his head, but he was smiling. “Who wants to pass my flawed self onto an unsuspecting baby?”

“Jim.”

“Well.”

“And I do. I can only imagine how stunning our son or daughter would be that was created with your DNA.”

“Let’s just enjoy our newly born son for now, okay, Spock?”

Spock moved closer to his family and leaned in to kiss Jim and then then baby’s head. He would not give up. He wanted a child born of each of them and he was certain he could talk Jim into it.

“You are right, he is perfect.”

No particular theme this month, just where the whim takes me.

Photo by Yana Moroz on Pexels.com

Jim woke alone in bed and as he placed his hand on where Spock was supposed to be it was cool to the touch and the sheet smooth.

He sighed in the darkness, straightened, sat up, and turned on the light in the bedroom. Definitely no sign Spock had ever come to bed.

Jim glanced at the digital clock and saw it was two in the morning. The room felt chilled.

He got out of bed, reached for his robe, and slipped his feet into slippers he kept by the bedside. He trundled over to the window, opened the blinds and observed that it was snowing. In April.

He almost went back to bed where it was reasonably warm. But it was also lonely and staying there by himself wouldn’t solve anything.

Jim turned from the window, left the bedroom and went down the stairs to find his Vulcan.

Of all the species and all the planets he’d visited over the many years, Vulcans were the most stubborn. And maddening.

He followed the lone light to the room downstairs they both used as an office and sure enough Spock sat at his desk, a cup of tea beside him, staring at a computer.

For a long time, Jim just leaned against the doorframe, observing Spock at work, tiny frown lines between his eyes as he furrowed over something no doubt too illogical.

Jim had no doubt Spock was aware of his presence. They were always aware of each other.

“Are you still mad?”

Spock’s gaze met his, those dark eyes warm. “I was never truly angry.”

Jim came into the office and over to the desk and Spock pulled him down and into his lap. Their lips met in a deep kiss.

“Then what are you doing down here?”

“I had trouble feeling sleepy,” Spock admitted. “I received a message from my father that has…unsettled me.”

Jim glanced at the computer. “What’s wrong?”

“He seems a bit unwell. Just vague mentions but he appears to be…depressed. He is hard to read. I fear he doesn’t have long.”

“Do you want to go see him?”

“I do not want to draw you away from here. You like being here.”

Jim smiled, his heart warming further. There was never any doubt that Spock would go alone. They never went anywhere without the other anymore. Hardly ever did, really.

“I like being here because we’re together. It’s snowing.”

“I know.”

Jim laughed at Spock’s disgruntled face. “We can go. We should go. He’s our only parent left, we should go and see him.”

Spock nodded, his eyes turning solemn at the reminder they only had Sarek left as their elder. It was a reminder, Jim figured, of their own mortality.

“Hey.”

Spock looked at him.

Jim leaned down and kissed him. “We’re still here. I’m still here. And we have plenty of time.”

Spock returned his kiss and then looked at Jim with love. “Let’s go to bed. We can decide when to leave when we wake up.” And they left the home office together, arm in arm, heading upstairs.

“What color will that one be?” Vanik asked Jim, as he leaned over to watch Jim decorate dyed eggs.

“Hmm. Pink, I think. With maybe a hint of blue.”

“They are all quite beautiful. I am impressed by your artistry.”

Jim smiled. “They’re just Easter eggs. Anyone can do them.”

“I think not. The one Uncle Spock did that is orange is running with another color and making it gray.”

He laughed. “Yeah. But it’s okay. When I was a kid my brother, Sam, and I used to dye eggs and then my mom would hide them for us to find.”

“If you already have possession of the eggs, why would your mother hide them from you?”

“So we can find them for prizes or rewards or whatever. Money, chocolate, things like that.” Jim grinned. “I was always better at it then Sam.”

Vanik continued to watch him. “You do not often mention a brother. I think I only recall it one other time.”

“He’s a butthead.”

Vanik gasped.

Jim sighed. “Sorry, kid. He’s, uh, I don’t see him very often. We’re not close. Not now.”

“I wish I had a brother,” Vanik said, wistfully.

“Well.” Jim smiled and pushed over a bowl of dye and an egg to where Vanik sat. “We can be each other’s brothers, right? Why don’t you do an egg?”

“Really? It is permissible?”

“Of course it is.”

Vanik straightened and picked up the egg.

“What color are you going to do?”

“Green! I shall do green.”

Just a teensy little thing. Happy Easter
