“What color will that one be?” Vanik asked Jim, as he leaned over to watch Jim decorate dyed eggs.
“Hmm. Pink, I think. With maybe a hint of blue.”
“They are all quite beautiful. I am impressed by your artistry.”
Jim smiled. “They’re just Easter eggs. Anyone can do them.”
“I think not. The one Uncle Spock did that is orange is running with another color and making it gray.”
He laughed. “Yeah. But it’s okay. When I was a kid my brother, Sam, and I used to dye eggs and then my mom would hide them for us to find.”
“If you already have possession of the eggs, why would your mother hide them from you?”
“So we can find them for prizes or rewards or whatever. Money, chocolate, things like that.” Jim grinned. “I was always better at it then Sam.”
Vanik continued to watch him. “You do not often mention a brother. I think I only recall it one other time.”
“He’s a butthead.”
Vanik gasped.
Jim sighed. “Sorry, kid. He’s, uh, I don’t see him very often. We’re not close. Not now.”
“I wish I had a brother,” Vanik said, wistfully.
“Well.” Jim smiled and pushed over a bowl of dye and an egg to where Vanik sat. “We can be each other’s brothers, right? Why don’t you do an egg?”
“Really? It is permissible?”
“Of course it is.”
Vanik straightened and picked up the egg.
“What color are you going to do?”
“Green! I shall do green.”

I had a huge thought last night.
What if I watch ST V: Final Frontier BUT from the beginning think of Sybok as Vanik’s father?????
It’s gonna change EVERYTHING!! This time I’ll cry when Sybok doesn’t make it.
I just have to keep in mind – Spock Prime is 57 at that time, and Sybok is older than he is. And of course this is Sybok Prime. Unless the non-existent ST 4, 5, or 6 address AOS Sybok….we have no frame of reference except just knowing IF AOS Sybok had a son named Vanik, Vanik would be long out of childhood by then. (And of course AOS married Sybok would be, IMO, a really nice guy!)

Anyway I actually felt bad for Sybok in V. Can you imagine having Sarek as your father and being disowned because you didn’t follow logc?
I, too, imagine AOS Sybok as a nice guy and I also view AOS Sarek as nicer. There’s nothing to say that their personalities couldn’t have shifted in the alternate time line. Hell, Uhura became a bitch in the AOS timeline LOL

Exactly. And AOS Spock fell for her, even though in the very first episode of TOS, Uhura hit on Spock and he firmly put her in her place. And then SHE attacked him and admitted she wasn’t even Spock’s friend and that Jim actually wasn’t either – that Jim was only “the closest thing” Spock had to a friend. Abrams. Sheesh.

there’s a cliché/trope whatever you want to call it that men always fall for bitchy women and I guess Abrams is all onboard with that idea.
I think it’s fair to say later in the TOS movies, Uhura did consider Spock her friend given the lengths they all went to bring him back so at least her character was able to grow! 🙂

I always loved dyeing Easter Eggs with my kids. I still want to do it. But my youngest two will be 23 on the 18th of this month and aren’t interested. And I won’t see my oldest, age 25, till later in the month, when we’re all going to a wedding.
