Flash Fic Wednesday, October 02, 2019

Every Wednesday in October you will get an October themed flash (including Halloweenish, though I will try not to make them too scary. Enjoy!

“Bones hates pumpkin spice.”

Spock looked up from his PADD to eye his captain who had just flopped down across from Spock at the table in the mess room. “While unfortunate considering your obsessive love for it, I hardly think it warrants the alarm in your tone, Captain.”

“Well.” Jim sighed and leaned his chin on his hand. “I’ve known him for, I don’t know, years and years, and you think you know a guy and…then wham. They declare such a blasphemy.”

“You could look at it as an indication that leaves more pumpkin spice for you.”

His captain smiled. “That’s true.”

“And also an indication that the doctor is not entirely right in the head.” Spock paused. “Although I have long suspected that.”

Jim’s smile widened. “Damn, but you do know how to make me feel better.”

“As first officer, it is my duty to do so.”

“Mm. I guess so.” Jim lifted a cup to his lips and Spock gave a sniff.

“Speaking of, is that…”

“Pumpkin spice tea. Yes. Uhura got it for me on Starbase 9. She said she saw it in the store and knew because I was a pumpkin spice nut, I would appreciate it. She was right.”

Spock considered. “It does smell good. But was it a recent gift, Captain?”

“Uh.”

“I wondered as this is the first time in my presence that you have had a cup and I could not imagine you were, perhaps, holding back from me that you had acquired it.”

“Uh.”

“As I recall Nyota returned from Starbase 9 a month ago.”

“Well.”

“The same as the rest of us. And I believe she also found pumpkin spice coffee for you at that time as well.”

Jim bit his lip. “How’d you know that?”

“She was excited to tell me about her findings. This may come as a surprise to you, Jim, but many of the crew think about your preferences when they are at places like the store on Starbase 9. They like to please you.”

“That’s so sweet,” Jim said with a wide smile.

“But you were, in fact, holding back the tea. And I don’t believe Nyota mentioned that purchase to me.  Did you convince her not to tell me?”

“Uh.”

Spock shook his head.

“I’ll make you some tonight over chess,” Jim said in a rush. “And, you know…” Jim paused to let his tongue trace over his lips in a deliberate flirtation Spock was well aware of. “Before bed.”

Spock inclined his head. “Very well. And the pumpkin truffles, too.”

“Damn it!” Jim laughed, held his fingers out for Spock, who met them, and then went back to his PADD.

September 11

On September 11, 2011, the ten year anniversary of that dreadful, heartbreaking day, I spent most that day on a website dedicated to online memorials for those that perished in the two towers. It was emotionally draining and crippling, but something, on that day, I needed to do.

I can hardly believe it has been another eight years since then.

On this day in 2001, I will never forget watching the buildings collapse on television. It was…mind boggling. The television was on at work and we were all glued to the coverage. I can still hear Peter Jennings in my head.

The night before, my friends and I had been at the mall shopping for a European trip we were taking in October. We never imagined what the next day would bring. If there was any innocence left on September 10th, it was definitely gone forever on the 11th

I had taken the bus that morning and being on the West Coast the news was already coming in. Eventually, my job at the time, dismissed us for the day, knowing there was no work getting done, and those in charge there just as stunned as we were. A friend drove me home. I watched the news nonstop the rest of the day, emotionally wrecked and distraught.

There are things you never forget if you lived through them. The Riots here after the Rodney King thing, OJ Simpson’s being exonerated even though we knew he was guilty, stuff like that. But it all pales in my mind and memories to September 11, 2001.

Lost it

Yes my head

I said something about finishing The Ties That Bind. Er…I finished THAT story on August 15th! Lord save me from myself.

Really what is up next for updates is the kid story, Our So-Called Life. So, once I do the new chapter of Stranded 3 and Orchestral Maneuvers, THAT will be next.

None of that will be done before I finish September, October and November. The very good news is I have ONE story left for October. And one conclusion to write on the Wednesday flashes appearing this month. Then I move onto November. The Friday flashes for November are done but none of the Wednesday ones (4 of those). But I did finish my AOS OMS story to debut on AOS in November. Wooh.

Then one more quarter of my brain will be restored and I will have 3/4s to work on other stuff. Yah….

Okay, I Know. One More

If you can stand one more post from me…

I expect my current continuing Wednesday flashes to be done by the end of September. So…

In October, Wednesday flashes will be taken over by Autumn/Halloween themed flashes, beginning October 02 and continuing through October 30. I will try not to make them too spooky. I have already written and scheduled the October 02 and October 09 and can advise that the first is not scary at all, though the second one might be to the fainted-hearted. Anyway, you can look forward to those.

In November, in honor of OMS month (Old Married Spirk), Wednesdays flashes will be taken over by the TOS Spirk guys from November 06-November 27 (Wednesdays).

Decembers will be…well yeah, 25 Days of Christmas/Holidays. Ugh. LOL.

I will revisit what I will do for flashes for 2020 in January. But this is your notification for the rest of the year. And yes, I might be insane. But you knew that.

Quick Update

Tomorrow you can look for a new flash for Wednesday (continuing yes) and the next chapter of My Devotion, as I finished it today.

Personal Update

In case you wonder, we have filed a claim with the insurance. We have to send in forms, etc. But we might get a little bit of money from them. We shall see. I’ll keep you posted if anyone is interested.

In the meantime, we are moving forward with getting estimates for the garage door to be replaced with a new one. Have an estimate coming tomorrow and Wednesday after work. We’d like to get this done sooner rather than later, so that’s the plan.

Thanks everyone!

Update Information

Hello my friends

My planned updates changed, as you may have already figured out.

I was going to update Stranded 3 and The Fling but changed it to Nine Lives and Transfer Request instead. I may work on those over the weekend but it’s M’s birthday weekend so there’s stuff planned with dinners and get togethers so we shall see. Might have to be next week.

I did get all my Friday Flashes written all the way through October, so that’s fantastic. I am either going to work on my Jim/Prime Christmas story or my OMS story at lunch today. Have not decided.

Went to the gym last night so didn’t get much done then. Thanks for your patience!

Updates 8/20/2019

Okay so both Our So-Called Life and Orchestral Maneuvers have now been updated.

I think I am supposed to do Stranded 3 or The Fling next, however, right now I have decided to work on Wednesday’s flash and the last flash for October (since…dunh dunh dunh…they are related. Yes, three or four readers (LOL, that’s a joke thus the LOL), the Jim and Spock who are going to appear in the series of flashes in October, November and December are one and the same who appear in the Super Flashes. I guess that’s your answer on Jim’s fate.

The muse, or whatever, must work on what they desire. And after that I may start the OMS challenge story to have it ready for November. We shall see.

No movie tonight as there isn’t anything out I need to see but I am likely heading to the gym. Cue Olivia’s Let’s Get Physical.

Briefly Rambling 08/15/2019

Next up is The Ties That Bind. I hope to get to that this week. It only has a handful of chapters left.

Next week I will return to Our So-Called Life. Don’t know what else yet.

I’ve joined a gym so my time for writing might become more limited, but I think I’ve been keeping up pretty well with updates.

I think I only have 8 works in progress now which is pretty good for me. The OMS Challenge is coming up and I haven’t decided whether I am participating this year. IF I do it will likely be AOS OMS (too many initials). That’s not due until November. But as you know I have a pretty ambitious flash schedule coming up as well as the usual Christmas related stuff.

Anyway, the more stories I can finish, the better. That way when I croak of heat stroke or a heart attack on the treadmill I won’t have too many stories left unfinished! HA
