Rambles 02/24/2020

The ice plant in the neighborhood is in full bloom.

So I haven’t made any progress on the Bang Story other than the initial 1,000 words I have written. Not sure how I feel about that. TCIGTY is the acronym for the story. I think I can reveal THAT much. This Saturday is our first check-in and half of me is thinking of pulling out (no pun intended). I’m a little unmotivated.

In other news I did get updates done on a few stories and wrote a quick song related story, so all was not lost.

This week, on Wednesday, I think, I am meeting friends for happy hour. Meh. Not really in the mood. Leap Day I am going to a charity event with my sister at the local Elk’s Lodge. Also my Leap Story, Four Years Later, will be posted.

Got flashes on Wednesday and Friday. Wednesdays involves the mysterious time-traveling Spock. Fridays is a fluff piece involving TOS OMS. Something to look forward to.

In the meantime, writing-wise. I will see what I can get done this week on that Bang Story so I can make my decision.

Work is still crazy busy (nope we have not even posted the job for the third person yet).

Last week of February is upon us. Next Sunday is March. Things are looking up!

Rambles 02/03/2020

Well…my weekend didn’t go quite as I hoped as we had a friend over Sunday who basically took up the entire day. And Saturday we had errands. I should have done so much more than I did. I also way over ate. Sigh.

Got nothing done writing-wise of which I am quite ashamed. Nothing productive at all really. Double sigh.

I have two more stories that need to be updated and taken into 2020 and that’s The Mysterious One and The Fling. I will do my best to get them updated soon. But I am also trying to get March flashes done, Every Four Years Later, and actually get a good start on my T’hy’la Bang story and in all honesty I’m a little stressed about it all. Plus work…so, wish me luck.

I’ll get stuff done for you guys to read, promise. At least here if no where else.

Oh no….LOL

So…I foolishly, perhaps, signed up for the T’hy’la Bang 2020. The rules are pretty brutal. I have to write a K/S fic of at least 15,000 words but preferably over 20,000. Has to be done by the end of May and posted in June. You may recall I did this one a few years back where they pair you with an artist who does art work for your fic. My story was Who Am I to Say.

I think it’s done a little differently in that I think I submit my draft which they share anonymously with artists and then they assign the artists off the pages or something. The last time was a bit of a free for all where you were left feeling like the last one chosen for PE. I think they are trying to avoid that from happening. Not sure, really. Anyway that’s not for a while because I think writers have all the way until the end of February to sign up.

And now I have to think of something. Oiye!

Disappointing News

Apparently the other day when Simon Pegg said the new Star Trek movie would not include the AOS movie, he was right. The dude doing the movie has confirmed that it’s not related and it will be a new cast and be a return to “traditional Star Trek”, which I can only assume is yet another bash against the reboot movies.

Paramount disappoints and sucks again.

Rambles, January 06, 2020

So, coming up for updates next are My Devotion, The Space in My Bed, and The Vulcan Who Fell to the Earth.

Not sure when they will appear but those are what I will be working on next.

No, I have not seen the new movie involving the “other” Star yet. Probably will next week. This week I’m seeing the Jumanji movie (Tuesday).

Got nothing else to report! Back to my boring life, I suppose with no holidays to look forward to, alas.

HAPPY 2020

May you find the year kind.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas

We revisit the Jim and Kirk from Santa Claus is Coming to Town

David Marcus was late. He’d been rushing around all morning trying to make it to San Francisco. And not just San Francisco, but to his family’s home.

“Mom, I can’t talk any longer. I’m already late. They’re all expecting me. In fact, they were expecting me an hour ago.”

“Oh your father will forgive you.” She laughed. “But I know. You’ll come see me for New Year’s?”

“Wouldn’t miss it. Love you, bye.”

“David…”

“Oh, I know. Merry Christmas. Talk soon.”

He disconnected and maneuvered the hover car down the street and around two more before pulling up in front of the single family home that somehow managed to remind him of one of those gingerbread houses. Probably cause his dad had decorated it. And as usual over decorated it.

He shook his head with a smile. He hadn’t seen them in months, but had promised he’d be there. Still up until just a few days he’d still been on another planet and had doubted he could get there himself.

David glanced down at the box in the seat next to him. “You ready for this?”

There was no response, of course, but he didn’t mind.

He turned off the hover car and jumped, going to the other side to scoop up the box. He stared in awe at how many lights his dad had put up. He supposed his dad had help from his stepdad. Of course.

David began to hum “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” as he approached the front door. He couldn’t help but grin as he thought of a Christmas so long ago now. When he asked Santa to get his dad Spock for Christmas.

The door opened and there stood his stepfather.

“David,” Spock said, his lips curving upwards just slightly. “We had begun to fear you weren’t going to make it.”

“Of course I was.” He set down the box and embraced Spock. “It’s great to see you, Sa-Mekh.” David had grown up calling Spock the Vulcan word for father.

“And you. They will be thrilled to see you.”

Spock released him and looked down at the box. “What do you have?”

David smiled. “You’ll see. A present for the family.” He glanced around and saw that the house was only slightly less decorated than outside. There was a fire burning in the fireplace.

“Spock?” David heard his dad’s voice. “Where’d you go?”

David patted Spock’s arm. “Hey Dad, I’m here.”

His dad whooped and suddenly came flying out of the kitchen.

He heard another more feminine squeal and then running down the stairs. He turned toward the sight of his half-sister, T’Lara, running down the staircase.

“David! David!”

He caught her in his arms as she flung herself at him. He spun her around as she giggled.

“Told you I would.”

“But you were late.”

“Still made it.” David gave his dad a one armed hug. “Merry Christmas, Dad.”

“I told your sister you’d make it. You always keep your promises.”

“I do. And guess what, sugar plum?”

“What?” his sister asked excitedly. Her dark hair, braided, was a crazy mess and her little pointed ears poked through all the loosening strands. She had dark eyes just like Spock’s. She looked just like him, really, but didn’t have a logical, unemotional bone in her family.

“I brought a present!”

She clapped her hands. “Can I have it? Can I have it?”

Dad laughed as he walked over to stand with Spock, putting his arm around David’s stepdad. “Maybe we should wait for Christmas, T’Lara.”

“But Daddy…”

“Actually,” David said quickly. “Maybe it is best she opens it now. It’s actually for all of you.”

T’Lara took the box from David eagerly and the six year old girl plopped down on the floor right in front of the tree and the fireplace. She lifted off the lid and cried out happily as a fluffy orange kitten appeared.

“A kitten! Oh my goodness! I love her.” T’Lara looked eagerly at her brother. “Or him?”

David laughed. “Her.”

“Daddy, Sa-Mekh, can we keep her?”

Dad glanced at Spock. “Of course we can. But she’ll need a litterbox and litter and food.”

“Got all that in the hover car,” David told him.

“Yay!”

Dad laughed. “Come on, kid, I’ll help you get the rest of the stuff from your car.”

They walked out of the house, arm and arm.

And inside they hear T’Lara singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

“Come on, Sa-Mekh. You sing too.”

David grinned. “Thanks, Dad. For having me. For having T’Lara…”

“That was your mom and a surrogate.”

“You know what I mean. And for taking me to see Santa Bones.”

“He did grant your wish,” Dad said fondly. “As he reminds me every chance he gets.”

David got all the stuff out of his hover car and handed some to his dad.

As they went back toward the house they sang, “Good tidings we bring to you and your kin, We Wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

That brings us to the end of the 25 Days of Christmas. I hope you enjoyed my gift to you.

I Have a Little Dreidel

Spock watched as his Captain visited with his mother. They seemed to get along very well. Many times while they reminisced over things they had shared and things they had not, they both laughed. Jim laughed often, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he did so.

He had not been back to Vulcan for a long time. Well, he supposed that wasn’t entirely correct. He had been back for his…unmentionable time with T’Pring…which of course had been nothing short of a disaster. But for a visit to his parents, well, it had been years.

But since seeing his parents when they were being transported to the conference on Babel, his mother had been asking for a visit on Vulcan.

During a rather recent disturbingly violent mission, the Enterprise had been damaged enough that they stopped at a Starbase for some repairs, which permitted the crew to take a short break.

Since Vulcan was only a short transport ride from the Starbase, Spock could find no logical excuse to avoid going there. And he’d asked his Captain at the last minute to join him. He had expected Jim to say no.

He had not.

“And then there was the time when we were on Earth and Spock sang in a performance at his school,” Mother’s voice rose enough to catch Spock’s attention.

Stiffening, Spock moved closer to where Mother and Jim sat in the breakfast nook having coffee together.

“Mother…”

“Oh, Spock, Jim wants to hear this.”

Jim smiled. “I certainly do. I can’t imagine Spock ever singing. I didn’t know Vulcans did much singing.”

Mother’s smile widened. “Oh they don’t. And of course that’s exactly what Spock said at the time. Sarek was spending an extended time on Earth for his ambassadorial duties. So Spock and I were living in Ontario near my family.  He attended a school there and they put on a holiday pageant.”

“Oh?” Jim smirked and eyed Spock. “A new side to you, Mister Spock.”

It took every ounce of control for him not to blush. Fortunately he’d spent many years learning to control his emotions, his very self, actually, so he did not. He just stared stonily back at his Captain.

Mother stood up suddenly. “You know I believe I have a recording of little Spock singing I Have a Little Dreidel.”

“Mother…”

“I would so love to see that,” Jim said, quickly.

“I’ll go and get it,” Mother promised. “I’ll be right back. And with some Hamantaschen cookies.”

Spock watched her hurry away.

“Captain, I ask that you not indulge…”

“Oh, come on, Mister Spock, I’m looking forward to seeing you. I’m sure you’re just one of many children on stage. Your mother’s proud of you.”

“But Captain…”

“Don’t make me make this an order, Mister Spock.”

He felt a muscle jump in his jaw. “Very well.”

Jim patted his arm and smiled warmly at him, hazel eyes sparkling.

Mother came back then, holding a small PADD device in one hand and the plate of Hamantaschen cookies in the other.  She set those on the table in front of Jim. “My own recipe. I haven’t made them in many years, but when Spock said you two were coming, well, I just couldn’t resist.”

Jim picked one up, a blackberry one, and took a large bite. “God, that’s good.”

Mother beamed. “I’d forgotten what a charmer you were. Here.” She handed the PADD to Jim. “I had nearly forgotten about this. Sarek…well, I’m sure you can imagine.”

Jim’s smile was gentle as he took the PADD. His gaze shifted briefly to Spock and in that gaze,  Spock caught something he had never really realized before. His breath stilled as Jim’s gaze shifted back to the PADD. He pressed play.

Spock stepped close to look down at the screen in Jim’s hands. A group of children stood on a stage awkwardly singing.

I have a little dreidel
I made it out of clay
And when it’s dry and ready
Then dreidel I shall play.

Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made it out of clay
Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
Now dreidel I shall play.

It has a lovely body
With legs so short and thin
And when it gets all tired
It drops and then I win.

Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made it out of clay
Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
Now dreidel I shall play.

My dreidel is so playful
It loves to dance and spin
A happy game of dreidel
Come play now, let’s begin.

Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made it out of clay
Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
Now dreidel we shall play.

“Spock didn’t want to sing, of course,” she said. “He told me ‘Vulcans don’t sing’ and I said, yes, but humans do.” She laughed. ”In the end I won this one. But that was the one and only time.” Her smile grew wistful. “Spock wasn’t very indulgent.”

Jim looked at her and then back at the children. His finger stabbed down at the screen. “There you are, Spock.”

“Affirmative.”

“Amanda!”

She sighed and got up. “That’s Sarek. I’ll be back in a bit.”

When she had gone, Spock said, “I have seen enough.”

Jim shook his head, but he turned it off. “You were…cute.”

“Jim.”

Jim put his hand on Spock’s arm. “You were very cute, Spock. And you made your mom happy. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

“Hmm.”

“Sit. And have a cookie.”

Spock sat beside his captain and took the offered cookie.

“Happy Hanukkah, Mr. Spock.” He reached over to Spock’s hand and curled his fingers around Spock’s palm. Spock met his gaze and gave Jim one of his very rare smiles.

Decorations (Mine-Home)

I got a request from J who missed my usual decoration pictures I have posted in the past. So…here are some pictures, post 1. I will do other posts.

It was the day after Thanksgiving and all through the house…elves. My sister bought me a little Elf tree this year, so I decided to do all elf decorations. Yes, I am a dork. Anyway this is much much much smaller tan the usual tree, but it was cute!

Ignore any mess you see!
