This has been a terrible week for the Star Trek Fandom. First Walter and now Patrick. It breaks my Starfleet heart.

Of course I loved him in TNG and the more recent “Picard” seasons, especially season three, Chef’s kiss. I even loved him in the XMen movies. And long ago he was a knight of the round table in Excalibur.

But for me he will always be my favorite Scrooge. That’s him from the TNT movie in the late 90s. I watch it over and over every Christmas and I will do that again this year.

In other fandom news, AO3 is down. Like very down. Their latest updates said 2 to 4 weeks. Yeah, weeks. I don’t know what happened but it was bad, obviously. Nothing from me will get updated there. I don’t know when that will change. I am working on Advent stories for the K/S Advent calendar but they are supposed to be done and uploaded by 11/20. If it’s at least 4 weeks, that’s past that date. I will still write them and see what happens. Either they will get posted there or here. I can only assume a major hacker attack but I really do not know.

But bad news.

    Whoa. I heard about Patrick in the middle of wedding shenanigans. There was only a few people who got how sad that is. He will be missed for sure.

    You know I agree with Scrooge 🙂

    But now AO3 too? Just wow. Hang in there friend!

    And I hope we get a chance to read the advent stories!

    Was so devastated to hear, absolutely loved him! RIP to a legend.

    On the AO3, it’s a hardware failure. They had issues, took it down for maintenance and hoped it would come back up but hardware is kaput. So 2-4 weeks is lead time for replacements I understand, with it possibly coming online sooner using older, obsolete hardware with their servers.

    so I think you’ll see it online much sooner but read-only I suspect for a while until they’re up and running at full speed.

      Yes I so admired him. Very heartbroken. I know we all must die but still…]

      Oh good to know, Elouesa! That is major. I suspect there will be allowances for the advent thing given the crash but glad to know it wasn’t evil actors

        It’s what I was told, but that could be wrong. I’m hopeful though, they’ve confirmed the data is intact.

    Hi, this was discussed today in the KiScon Discord group:

    Question:
    Is there a plan for what we’ll do if it isn’t back up by the 20th, since the outside of their time window is four weeks?

    Answer:
    Yes. Works can be uploaded also after the 20th, and all throughout December. So if the Archive is not back before the submission deadline, fear not.

    If the Archive should not be back in time for December, i.e. the actual start of the calendar reveals, we will also find an alternative solution to tide us over.

    The important thing right now is: please keep creating All The Things.

    I’m so sad about Patrick and Walter. I met Walter at a Star Trek convention in New York and he was a lovely man! He took time to chat with us. And now Patrick in the same week! I saw Patrick Stewart twice on stage in NYC (2 years in a row) doing the one-man play of A Christmas Carol. He played all the parts and it was absolutely amazing to watch him transform from one character to another in seconds. Just from his acting ability.! So sad!😞 RIP 😢

    And now ao3?! I’m going to go through DT’s! 🤯😢

      Yeah the ghosts have been mean this week…sigh
      I have the old CD set of Patrick doing that show somewhere. He’s the only one of TNG I didn’t get to see in person (oh and Wil Wheaton)
      But like I said big admirer of him
