I still have plans for a more involved Friday flash but I’m going away this weekend and I also need to update My Tears Will Wash Me Away so you are going to get a quicky simple one this week!

“We’re not here to meet one of your ex-lovers are we?” Bones asked with a mix of amusement and sarcasm that was pure Bones classic.

Jim shot him a look, mostly because Spock stood next to him and the Vulcan had visibly stiffened at the doctor’s words. Their…whatever…was new still. Like brand spanking new (and there had been spanking involved actually). So he guessed Bones could be forgiven for his faux pas.

“No,” he stressed. “Geez, despite rumors to the contrary I don’t have a lover in every port. Or, er, planet.”

Spock’s look was chilly but he said nothing.

They were on shore leave and naturally Spock hadn’t wanted to come along in the first place. But given what was really going on, Jim had insisted. He didn’t reveal any information to either Spock or Bones in case Jim was left disappointed again.

Which honestly was what he expected.

Still at the appointed time, as they stood there outside the seaside restaurant, Jim held his breath, his heart pounding in his chest. He was feeling a little sick.

“Captain?” Spock questioned.

Because even though the night before Spock had been fully engaged in Jim exploration he couldn’t quite give in to calling Jim by his name even on shore leave. It was still something Spock struggled with.

When five minutes had passed and still nothing, Jim began to give into the disappointment that had just been under the surface. He opened his mouth to apologize to his two friends when…

“Jim!”

Suddenly his mom launched into his arms and following right behind her was a big giant of a man who Jim recognized as his older brother. He managed to squeeze both their mom and Jim into a giant bear hug. Tears sprang to Jim’s eyes but he was pretty sure some of that was from having the breath squeezed out of him.

“I can’t breathe,” Jim finally croaked and Sam let go. Jim smiled at his mom and brother and then turned to Spock and Bones.

“Family, meet my other family.” And then he grabbed Spock’s arm and pulled him closer. “This is my…Spock.”

His mom grinned. “So you’re his Spock!”

Sam laughed and the sound of it filled Jim with warmth. It was going to be okay.
