It’s been a while since I’ve done a movie review of sorts but here ya go.
I finally got around to seeing Don’t Worry Darling which was directed by Olivia Wilde (she also plays a role) and stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles with Chris Pine as the “villain”.
Major Spoil Alert- don’t read any further if you don’t want to know big details. I am serious about this.
First I’ll say I would not have watched it if Chris Pine wasn’t in it. And he looks gorgeous in it. He’s got charisma as the character too though he is evil.
Anyway much has been made of the fact Harry and Olivia were a couple at the time but they really have no screen time together. I think they’ve since broken up. I think Harry should stick to singing pop. I even like a couple of his catchy pop songs. He’s no great actor but I wouldn’t say he’s the worst ever.
Florence is the main focus of the movie. Also much has been made of a scene where Harry goes down on her in the movie but it really doesn’t last long and there’s only really one more brief sex scene. Neither scene includes nudity. If you’d gone to the bathroom during either of the scenes you would have missed them.
She’s decent in the role but I wouldn’t say she was stunning in it. I found the plot to be pretty convoluted and it made little sense. I kept thinking, what’s the point of this movie again?
As I said, Chris is gorgeous and good in his limited time on screen. He really doesn’t have many scenes but when he is on there you can’t really look away. At the end though when his entire plan falls apart he is killed by his also evil wife. I am beginning to think he dies in more movies than he lives. Sean Bean is famous for dying in more movies than almost any other actor (there are even memes about it) but I am starting to think Chris will give him a run for his money.
Bottom line: It wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever seen. The California scenery was gorgeous. Chris was gorgeous. It was pretty forgettable all around.
And there you have it. Saving some of you, perhaps from seeing it! LOL

Oh, yeah, proveably Chris dies in at least half if not more of his movies (just go down his IMDB list). Or his death is implied. Or imminent. Only in ID does he at least come back after dying. If he’s in this such a short amount of time, I definitely won’t bother watching. Because I couldn’t care less about anyone else in or associate with this movie.
Thanks for the review! (Oh thou sacrificial lamb for us all)
(now go watch the Knives one because IT IS AWESOME!!)

All of his scenes are short and I’d say he’s in about 5 scenes, so he’s not completely absent but he’s not there a lot either.
As I said not the worst I have ever seen but just meh.
Oh I will see that one eventually only so much time available to watch everything I wanna see 🙂 But definitely soon

Oh and one more thing! His wife killing him didn’t make any sense and there was no explanation for it that made sense. I guess what? To prove she was evil too? It came out of the blue. I hate unexplainable things!

Yeah, and I’ll just say in 100% transparency. Any time Chris wants me to be his stepford wife, I’m there. And I’ll only kill him with….kindness.
So you see I can’t understand ANY woman not just thanking her lucky stars for being his SO! LOL

I saw it in theaters. Found it okay. Very Stepford wives esque. My friend and I felt it took too long to get to the point then didn’t answer any questions as to what was really going on.
But yeah, pine was pretty 🙂 the main reason I saw the movie

OK – so – HOW evil is he in this? Like 2023 evil? Would it still be considered evil in 1950s?

*More Spoilers* Anyone else has been warned.
He runs a “simulated” perfect society. Called Victory. It’s like everyone LIVES in the 50s but it’s all faked. In reality people are hooked up to machinery and are unconscious while they are “living” in this society. All the men work in his company doing what he wants them to do and for that, they all get to trap women to be in this perfect life in the 50s. Florence was a doctor and her husband Harry was a loser deadbeat. And he hears about Chris’ program so he basically kidnaps his wife and plugs her into this program so he will have this perfect life and perfect wife. But eventually she starts questioning it. Chris’ character runs the company and tries to keep everyone from finding out it’s all fake and a simulation. So he has all these guards who try to keep everyone from leaving or finding out.

I’ve never seen that movie either. I’m way behind on shows to watch, both TV/ streaming and movies. This movie sounded too dystopian for me, from the ads that I saw. Thanks for the heads up. The only reason to see it would be Chris, but if he’s only in a few scenes…. Meh!
Movies with plots that just don’t make sense, just leave me disturbed. Also I hate ambiguous or unhappy endings… if Chris dies, even if he deserves it, it’s unhappy for me. Don’t leave it up to my imagination to explain things and don’t get me emotionally invested and then just end it without explaining what just happened.

The more I think about the less the whole damn movie makes sense. Last night I kept going, well why would that…yeah so not recommended. Not the least of which was the wife killing Chris out of the blue, stupid

I found the movie to be more “Twilight Zone-ish” than “Stepford Wives.” TZ was noted for plot twists that would leave you scratching your head and saying, “What in the Hell happened here?”
There were just too many places with big hunks of story seemed to be missing, though. I bet they left far too much of the movie on the cutting room floor, in order to show off the massive collection of 50s memorabilia.
As decrepit, aging Boomers, we majorly crushed on the 50s stuff. We lived it!
The big party which turned into a “Victory” pep rally reminded me of Amway. I halfway expected Chris Pine to spout motivational sales jargon about uplines and Diamond Levels.
(And something is totally whack with the Spellcheck. It does not want me to even mention “Amway.”)
I would really be interested in seeing this movie with fewer 50s tchotchkes and a more coherent story line.

that’s a very good point, AKO, and YES that party DID remind me of a pyramid scheme type company like AMWAY. I hadn’t even thought of that but you are right. And yeah maybe Twilight Zone is a better comparison but I found that I enjoyed TZ episodes far more than THAT movie LOL
