“You know what today is, right?”
Chris looked up from the book he was reading to take a long sip of his coffee. “Flag day.”
Zach snorted. “Sure. Besides that.”
Chris popped a bite of chocolate chip rugelach into his mouth and chewed. “Your friend’s birthday.”
“Uh-huh. That too.” Zach pointed. “You have, uh, you have pastry bits in your beard.”
Chris wiped at his beard with a napkin. “Guess I gotta take care of that. But what? If it’s not just Flag Day and your friend’s birthday, what is it?”
“Seven years ago on this day you told me you loved me for the first time.” Zach laughed. “I know. Corny as hell right?”
Chris smiled. “Nope. Well, maybe a little. But I fell in love with you because you’re corny.”
“A ringing endorsement,” he said dryly.
“Eh. I’m corny too. And I’d totally take you back to bed and show you how much I love you…except.”
Zach nodded. ”You’re making a movie.”
“Yeah. Which I’m already later for thanks to this morning’s activities.” Chris jumped up and left the kitchen.
“Don’t forget to clean off your beard!”
“Yeah yeah.”
Zach picked up his half-eaten rugalach and took a large bite.
“Hey, don’t eat my rugalach. I want to take it with me.”
“Uh.”
“Damn.” Chris came back in to the kitchen and kissed him. “Gotta go.”
Zach grinned, pulled him close once more, and kissed him for a much longer time.
“You sure we don’t have time to—”
“Positive. Get going.”
And Chris did. Zach looked down at the three…four demanding dogs.
Now he had to walk all of them. Great.

Uncle Jimtastic told me about flag day when I was young and for some reason, probably bc it was him, it stuck in my head and now I never forget. So many people don’t even know it’s a thing. It made me smile that you included it. 🙂

I’m pretty ‘doggone’ sure you knew I didn’t know what a rugalach is. So yeah, I had to go lookin’ it up! Making me work on my BD!!
Isn’t it funny how so very often they coordinated their outfits for interviews? I mean, as far as I ever saw, they never did that with any of their other co-stars or for other co-interviews. They’re so funny. You can turn the sound off on any of those many youtube recordings and just giggle at their clothes and their antics without hearing a word.
As soon as I saw the pic I started giggling. That alone was a great BD gift! LOL
But the story is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sweet. Domestic and yet sexy, even after a few years.
Zach taking care of Chris – beard-wise, at least. I just love them together. And no matter how many breakfasts they’ve shared together, and we know, no matter the circumstances, there have been many, I can authoritatively guess they were pretty much just like this!
Thank you guys for the BD wishes and thank you Ivan for the perfect gift! Absolutely, I DO love my Pinto! My OTP, if I had to give up spirk of all forms.
So I drink my coffee from a Pine cup, lean back against my Pine pillow and the Pine throw over the back of my chair. Check the time on my Pine wall clock and realize again how it’s never working right. I’ll stand on my Pine rug as I wash out my cup after while. And when my family takes me out to eat later, I’ll pull my wallet out of my Pine bag. Which is probably a horrible place to hide it if anyone ever did actually break in. I know I’d definitely take it with me if I were the burglar. (I think it was 4 Christmases ago that my family made it a totally Chris Pine holiday and my life ever since has been surrounded by CP artifacts and pics. Yum)
And yeah, if it weren’t for Flag Day and everybody putting out their flags here, I’d totally forget it was my BD. FD always came first for me! And will more so as the age years go by. And yet I still feel like the same silly 16 year old inside I’ve ever been. Just wrapped in this mess of a body. AARP doesn’t prepare you for that. How you feel mentally and then accidentally catch a glance at a mirror and wonder, WTH?
