October 2023 Continuing Story

With the beanie gone, Spock stood in front of Jim staring back at him.

And yes, Jim was staring.

He definitely had a full head of silky dark hair. The bowl cut style was a bit odd but to each their own, Jim thought.

But the striking part was Spock had pointy ears. Like an elf or something. Of the fae folk his grandmother used to tell stories of. They looked real, too, not like a Halloween costume. Jim was tempted to reach out and tug at them just to be sure, but he dropped his hand just before he actually touched one.

“I am sure you have questions.”

Jim blew out his breath. He also had oddly shaped eyebrows. Sure he knew plenty of people who waxed or trimmed their unibrow but these were thinned and shaped in the extreme.

“My questions have questions,” Jim admitted.

“I am…Vulcan.”

“Vulcan,” Jim repeated. “Is that east of Budapest?”

“Definitely more North.”

Jim considered this. “How far north?”

Spock pointed up.

“I don’t understand.”

“Vulcan is another planet. It is not on Earth at all.”

“Another planet? Like a Martian?”

“No. Martians, if they existed, would be from Mars. Vulcans are from Vulcan.”

“I see.” Jim didn’t see at all. And he wondered if this guy in front of him was as much of a whack job as he seemed.

At that moment, Jim’s front door opened and in walked Leonard McCoy from the college.

“Wait. What the hell are you doing here?” Jim took a step back.

“Jim, do not be afraid. Doctor McCoy is here to help.”

“Doctor? Help?” Jim backed up even more. “Are you two in cahoots?”

McCoy made a face. “Cahoots isn’t quite the word. But Jim, we are working together. I’m your doctor and I need—”

Jim laughed hysterically. “Doctor? My doctor? I don’t have a doctor, buddy.”

“Jim, let us help you. You’re sick.”

“Sick?”

“Yes, something happened on the Enterprise and you got injured and it made you sick and you went through a portal. But I have the antidote if you’ll just let me—”

And McCoy held up the needle Jim had seen before and he could see it was filled with some yellow substance Jim assumed he intended to inject in Jim.

He shook his head frantically. “I don’t think so, pal.”

Then Spock raised his hand outward toward Jim’s shoulder.

:”Uh-uh.” Jim got his hand on the doorknob of the back door, twisted it open, and backed out of it, to make a break for it.

“Jim! Wait! No! There are Klingons out there!”

October 2023 Continuing Story

Part 3 (end of first chapter)

Jim narrowed his eyes at the short but lanky man with the moustache standing by his trash cans.

“Clyde?”

“Evening, Mr. Kirk.”

“What are you doing?” He lowered the crowbar.

“Becky called me from New York, said you had some racoon problems and to come on out and set up some traps.”

Clyde was Becky’s cousin. Didn’t have a very high IQ but he was a nice man.

Clyde stepped away from the cans. “I don’t see any signs of racoons, Mr. Kirk. But I set out traps anyhow.”

“It’s Jim. What do you see signs of?”

Clyde shrugged. “Nothing really. No signs of rats or racoons. But maybe you wouldn’t see anything specific. Traps are set now though, so I’ll come check on them in a day or two if that’s all right with you, Mr. Kirk.”

“Yeah, that’s fine.” Jim glanced around where the trash cans were and over toward the front yard. “See anything else around, Clyde?”

“Like what?”

Yeah, what, Jim? Glowing red eyes?

“I don’t really know, I guess. Anything weird I suppose.”

Clyde looked at Jim like maybe he was crazy and Jim wasn’t sure he was far off. So he smiled.

“You want a shot of whiskey for your trouble?”

“Wasn’t any trouble, but I’ll take the whiskey.”

Jim hesitated. He didn’t necessarily want Clyde in the house. He didn’t really have any issues with Clyde, but he didn’t exactly trust him either. Becky had mentioned once that her cousin sometimes stole things. Not usually from people he knew, but still.

“I’ll bring it right out,” Jim said. “You wait here.”

“I will, Mr. Kirk.”

Jim went into his house and over to his liquor cabinet. He quickly poured two shots of whiskey and then brought them back out the front door. True to his word, Clyde stood just where Jim had left him.

He handed a shot to Clyde and kept one for himself.

Clyde didn’t immediately drink the shot, but instead asked, “You and Becky going to be married someday?”

Jim wasn’t sure exactly how to answer that. For Clyde, yeah, but most especially for himself.

So he settled on the vague, “She wants to, I think.”

Clyde nodded and thew back the shot. Jim followed suit, feeling it burn down his throat.

Clyde handed the empty shot glass to Jim. “I’ll be on my way now, Mr. Kirk. I’ll check back on those traps like I said. And if you need anything else, you give me a call.

Jim called after him as he headed for his truck, “You want some money?”

“Nope, that’s all right.”

And just a few minutes later he was gone. Jim watched him until the lights from his truck faded away out of sight.

He set the shot glasses down on the porch and walked to where the pumpkins and scarecrows were. He clenched the crowbar.

Looking for what? Again, he really had no clue. And not surprisingly he didn’t see anything anyway.

With a shake of his head at his only foolishness, grabbed the glasses and went back into the house. Double locking the front door. Then he double locked the back door too.

And just before he went to sleep, he thought he heard a whisper.

“Jim.”

I’ve been kind of doing Tuesdays and Thursday this month, so this one is a bit late but better late than never. Follow up to Tuesday’s flash.

Jim opened his eyes to see Bones hovering over him with a medical tricorder.

“Hey.”

Bones smiled slightly as he met Jim’s gaze. “Hey yourself. How are you feeling?”

“Pretty good considering. How’s Spock?”

“Unconscious like last time but otherwise fine.”

Jim nodded and licked his lips. “Kinda thirsty.”

“You’re getting fluids currently and I’ll get you some water in a minute. I’ve ordered you some food too which the staff of this here fancy hotel is bringing up any time.” Bones lowered the tricorder. “Your vitals are near normal. But you need food, water, and rest.”

Jim smiled faintly. “Fortunately I’m in a luxury hotel for that. They even have a whirlpool tub.”

Bones nodded. “When you’ve slept some, go ahead and use it. Should help with any sore muscles. I’ve fixed any actual wounds.”

Jim arched a brow. “Were there a lot?”

“Nah, just a few. Nothing too dramatic.”

“How long will Spock be out?”

“I’d say twelve hours or so. I’ve given him fluids too but see that he eats when he wakes, will ya?”

“Of course I will.”

Bones straightened. “There’s the door and your food. I’ll bring it and then, you, after you eat, go to sleep.”

Jim smiled as Bones helped him to sit up in the bed, and got him situated with pillows behind him so he could eat.

Part of him was relieved they’d made it through another Pon Farr. But admittedly, part of him was sorry it was over. He’d heard terrible things about it before their first one. Spock had even been concerned. But it was nothing they couldn’t handle, either of them, and this one had been even easier.

He could see that Spock was in another bed in the hotel room, lying on his stomach, his hair standing on end every which way. But he looked peaceful, the intense desperation having passed.

And as Bones returned with his dinner, Jim felt pretty peaceful too.

Just a quickie inspired by J advising that this date is Spock’s birthday (years into the future of course)

Jim found his first officer alone gazing out from a balcony that overlooked one of the parks in Yorktown. It was just outside of a conference room and something about Spock’s body language gave him pause.

“You okay?”

Spock let out a slow, soft breath, then glanced at Jim. “Nyota and I have ended our relationship.” He paused. “For good I believe.”

“Yeah? I mean, you guys seemed like you were getting close again just two days ago.”

“We disagree on the direction our relationship should take,” Spock replied. “It is not altogether unexpected. It has been challenging between us for a while.”

Jim nodded. “Okay. Listen, how come I didn’t know today was your birthday?”

Spock blinked at him. “I do not know. Vulcans are not in the habit of marking their birth as a remembrance, but it is a part of my official record.”

“I think there’s a reprimand there somewhere,” Jim said. He put his hand on Spock’s arm. “Funny our birthdays are so close together. That’s crazy.”

“I see no particular significance in it.”

“Well, I do. I’ve never had a birthday buddy before.”

Spock frowned. “Birthday buddy?”

“You know you really should have been part of the party two days ago. If I had known…you know, Bones has to know, right?”

“I…”

“I’m sure he does. I’ll have to have a word with him.”

“Captain, I do not think that is necessary.”

Jim ignored that to say, “Want to go have a birthday drink with me?”

Spock glanced away, out at the park. “I am not in the mood.”

Jim deflated. “Oh. Okay.”

Spock straightened away from the railing and faced Jim. “But if you are amenable, we could have tea in my temporary quarters.”

Jim’s gaze met Spock’s and the warmth there made him smile. “I’m definitely amenable.”

“Friendsgiving.”

Chris looked up from his maple bacon donut at Zach who stood next to the counter where Chris leaned against eating his donut and sipping his espresso. “What?”

“Why don’t you do a Friendsgiving?”

“Why would I?”

“To have a big turkey feast with your friends.”

Chris shook his head. “Just come to my parents for Thanksgiving.”

Zach sighed. He turned away to nuke his coffee which had cooled after he put tons of cream in it. Chris had teased him about it.

“I won’t be here for Thanksgiving. Which is why I want you to host a Friendsgiving.”

Chris frowned. “Where will you be?”

“Back to New York.”

“Well.” Chris paused to take a bite of his donut. He needed a moment to deal with Zach leaving again. “When are you returning?”

“The Monday before Thanksgiving. I’m hoping to beat some of the crowds.”

“When would I do Friendsgiving then?”

“Saturday before. I just think it would be nice. All of us. You, me, our friends. Turkey, stuffing, pies.” Zach smiled. “I’d help of course.”

“Damn straight you’d help.” Chris made a face.

“What’s wrong, Christopher? You like to entertain.”

“Just bummed you’re leaving I guess.” He avoided Zach’s gaze.

“Hey.” Zach put his hand on Chris’ arm to draw his attention back to him. “I always come back.”

“Yeah.”

Zach put his hand on Chris’ jaw. “To you. It’s always back to you.”

Time to Remember and Ramblings

Went and saw the latest Jurassic Park for nephew’s birthday. It was fun having a theater to ourselves (well friends and family) but my sister missed out as she tested positive for COVID. She’s fine with only a scratchy throat but man was she disappointed. I loved seeing the original cast.

Besides that we watched The Lost City on our big screen TV (55 inch) which has Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum and basically is a redo of Romancing the Stone. Cute though and spoiler alert Brad Pitt had a brief role with an…abrupt end shall we say LOL.

Finally we also watched Daniel Craig’s last Bond movie, No Time to Die. Basically your typical hyper masculine Bond movie.

Here’s a new story for you to check out, starts off pretty wicked angst but it definitely has a happy ending.

False Memories.

Jim thinks he and Spock are together, but nope, they aren’t.

Time to Remember

Cadet Ashayam, the second story in my Starfleet Academy Series (which I started after closing out the Professor-Cadet series. The first story in Starfleet Academy Series is The Fling.

This is another story Mylochka did art for (Fanart) Cadet Ashayam. This might have been one of the last she did for me as it was done in September 2019 and I want to say she disappeared from doing artwork right after that.

Cadet Ashayam made its debut on August 31, 2019 and was finished May 15, 2020 and was only about 10,000 words and nine chapters. Who doesn’t love an amorous lovesick Vulcan?

Spock was now staring at him, looking straight into Jim’s eyes. “I very much desire to kiss you.”

“Well. Again. I’m flattered. Really. But right now you aren’t thinking like yourself.”

“You do not want to kiss me?”

“Beyond belief,” Jim admitted. “But you’re under the influence and saying stuff you don’t mean, and I’m going to make sure you get home. Okay?”

“Very well, Cadet Ashayam.”

This was a fun and flirty story and ends with Happily Ever After. What more could one ask for?

Time to Remember

One of my personal favorites was in the Professor-Cadet series.

First Impressions

The summary was pretty straightforward: Spock does not think much of James Kirk when they first meet.

Fun fact, I started this story August 13, 2017 and ended September 09, 2017 .

Spock starts out not at all nice to Jim. He’s a jerk.

Favorite lines:

Jim closed his eyes again. “Can I stay here?”

“If you were to leave, I would chase you down and bring you back.”

Another fun fact: Two years later My Lochka felt inspired enough to do art

Fives Times Jim Almost Died and the One Time He Did

Just kidding, April Fool’s. I wouldn’t write that. Well, I did, actually. I have killed Jim off in a couple of one-shots and even a couple of stories.

Most notoriously The Strange Vulcan. I have had people tell me that story WRECKED them. It’s funny because there are so many elements to that story that I love so it’s a favorite of mine but I get it.

Fun fact or not so fun if you hate me for the above story. I originally intended it to be just a different meet between them. Spock time-traveling and ending up meeting Jim on modern Earth in Iowa.

But as I was writing that story I was marathon watching The Twilight Zone. Wow can some of those stories warp your mind. I remember one where the actress who played T’Pring (Arlene Martel I think was her name) that involved a plane crash. It was pretty freaky. She was a beautiful girl. Anyway, I digress.

Inspired by watching The Twilight Zone, I changed The Strange Vulcan to what it is today and yes, Jim dies. And, spoil alert, basically so does Spock. That’s not an April Fool’s joke.

If you haven’t read it, bring tissues or something.

But I digress. I didn’t write anything for today as I am giving myself this day off. If TSV is not your cup of tea there are plenty of them out there I have written that you can read instead.
