- They might be able to take the noisy blowers drying what remains of my kitchen away tomorrow

- I had planned a couple of days away before all this for Sunday and Monday nights, so I am still doing that.

Sheesh – I remember you used to always take Thanksgiving week off.
I’m just gonna be honest – I’m shocked you’re getting off with only paying $1100. I thought the asbestos and mold checks and possible removal alone would cost that. So though that is a major hit, I’m so glad it wasn’t more!

the good news, which I knew, was we don’t have an asbestos, the quote from the restoration people by the way was $25,000
So we wait and see

Yeah, I knew insurance doesn’t pay for flooding inside. Been there, done that. Nor does it pay for flooding from OUTSIDE unless you have specific flood insurance (which at least here, you’re required to have if you live in a designated flood zone.). Been there, but didn’t have to deal with it, since we were renting that house.
Had a 4″ torrent running through the kitchen, 6″ in the garage. The water from the low place behind the house, met the waves coming from the front of the house right in the kitchen/livingroom. The owners didn’t tell us what got paid for or how. We lost almost everything in the storage shed at the back of the property (this was a LARGE city, but this place was old enough that shed used to hold some previous owner’s horse.)
None of our stuff was insured. SMH. I learned my lesson from that!
So I hope your deductible isn’t huge, and I hope your insurance covers everything else.

Yay for getting rid of the blowers! And for a fixed leak. Now a new kitchen! Which…I mean would be a lot more exciting if it was something you chose to do and planned for. Instead of this way. But still new kitchen!

They took all the lower cabinets where they cut off the wall and threw them in the trash, they were not ruined until they got their hands on them

The blowers are gone, however, the insurance co still wants something done before we can even think about restoring the kitchen. The restoration company sent us their bill so far for $18,000. I just have no clue how we can pay it if the insurance company denies the claim.
We have a neighbor who a few years ago on Christmas Eve, the condo above theirs had a pipe go and it flooded their condo below, just water gushing into their place. She told us she had to really fight the insurance co to pay the claim. She said theirs was like $30,000-$40,000
I just don’t now how they expect people to afford that. Ugh. It’s just so depressing.
