Bones Gets Married, Chap 2

Chapter 2

“Jim, it’s so good to see you,” Shayla greeted him with the briefest of hugs. She was part Orion, part Human, and exotically beautiful with light green skin and raven hair. They’d met on the Enterprise during their second mission and had been together ever since. They’d never talked of marriage, though it was plain they were committed. Jim was sure Bones was firmly in the never again category.

“You look radiant as usual.” He kissed her cheek.

She patted her stomach then with a smile. “We’re expecting.”

“Fantastic. I’m ready to be an uncle again.”

“Where’s my present?” Joanna asked.

“Jo, that’s not nice,” Bones told her.

“Well.” She pouted a little. “He said he had one.”

Jim laughed. “It’s okay. Come, help me open my bag. It’s inside.” Joanna ran to his bag and opened it up, taking out the box with the “Build Your Own Enterprise” in it. She squealed with delight and then ran off with the box to get online to show her mother.

Bones smiled. “Come on outside to the grill.”

Jim followed him outside. “How long is Jo staying with you guys?”

“For the summer. Basically until it’s time for her to go back to school. She’s been a big help to Shayla.”

“God, you’re so damn domesticated.”

Bones  nodded. “Kind of sickening, I know. How are you doing, Jim?”

Jim leaned against the patio wall. “Keeping busy.”

“Working too hard, you mean.”

Jim shrugged. “What else can I do right now?”

“Not work too hard?” Bones sighed. “When was the last time you had a physical?”

“Um, I don’t know?”

“You aren’t eating right. Hell, you look like you aren’t eating at all.”

“Bones.”

Bones poked his ribs. “What are you eating?”

“I eat.”

“That’s not an answer. Is it the admiralty?”

“I am the admiralty.”

“You know what I mean. They give you about six billion different things you’re responsible for.”

“Just tactical stuff.”

“Just.” Bones rolled his eyes. “Inspections, too. How many ship inspections have you done in the last few months?”

“A few.”

Bones quirked his brow.

“Okay, a lot. But let’s talk about you. Are you ready for this shindig?”

“It’s not actually a shindig. It’s pretty small. Most of our friends are in space and she hasn’t seen her dad in over a decade. Her mom will be here though.”

“It’s going to be great, no matter how big it is.”

Bones flipped several burgers. “Jim—”

“Bones. Don’t start, all right?”

“I worry about you. In San Francisco all alone.”

“I’m fine. Really.” Jim smiled. “And that reminds me. I gotta check in. I’ll be right back.” He went inside for his PADD.

Bones Gets Married

jim

Chapter 1

Four years had passed after the end of their last mission.

Jim had said goodbye to all of them. Most of them stayed with the Fleet. Sulu had been promoted to captain. Uhura and Scotty stayed with the Enterprise. Jaylah was working on Yorktown now. And Bones had left Starfleet. He was retiring.

He missed them.

Jim picked up the photo he had of them just before the end of that last mission. He traced his finger over each and every one of them. They’d all been smiling. Except Spock. Jim shook his head. He lingered over Bones. And then finally his first officer.

“Spock,” Jim whispered. Spock who was on New Vulcan.

With a final roll of his eyes at himself he put the picture back down on his desk in his office.

There was a tap at his office door.

“Come.”

A yeoman stepped inside. “It’s time for you to leave, Admiral.”

He nodded. “All right. Just ten minutes—”

“No, sir. You don’t have ten minutes. You have to leave now or you’ll be late for the shuttle.”

“My bag—”

“Already on the shuttle.”

Jim smiled. “Congratulations, Yeoman. You’ve thought of everything.”

She crossed her arms in front of her chest. “Apparently not since you haven’t gotten up, sir.”

“Okay, okay. Sheesh.” Jim got up and walked around the desk. He grabbed his jacket. “What’s the weather supposed to be like in Georgia?”

“Rainy, Admiral. For the next two days. But the sun is supposed to shine on Dr. McCoy’s wedding day.”

“He’ll appreciate that. Listen, I’ll contact you from the shuttle and—”

“Nope. You’re on vacation, sir.”

Jim grimaced. “When I get there then.”

“Admiral—”

“As you were, Yeoman.”

She sighed. “Yes, sir. And do try to have a good time.”

A good time. Oh, sure.

How the hell was Jim supposed to have a good time with all the work he had to do. Or really. Georgia? In the damn summer. Bones owed him for this.

He pinched the bridge of his nose. Found the message from Bones on his PADD and read it again.

I know you won’t believe me, but I’m getting married. I know. I said never. But well…It’s just a few days off. I think she didn’t want to give me a chance to change my mind! Can you come? I know most of our friends are off planet now, but, well, I’ll really like you to be there.

How could he deny that? He couldn’t.

So he was traveling to Georgia.

At least he’d get to see Bones.

“There he is! Uncle Jim!”

Joanna McCoy ran at Jim the moment he stepped off the shuttle ramp. She threw her little ten year old arms around him with such enthusiasm she knocked Jim back.

“Whoa, whoa.” Jim laughed. “Don’t run me over, Jo.”

“Yeah he’s got old bones, honey. Don’t want to break the admiral.”

Jim smirked at Bones. “Funny.” He ruffled Jo’s long brown hair. “Guess who brought a really smart little girl a present?”

“Yay!” She smiled brightly and linked her arm with his. “What is it?”

“You’ll see when we get to your house.” Jim glanced at Bones. “Where’s the missus?”

“Missus to be, thanks. Shayla’s back at the house. Fretting over the wedding.”

“Problems?”

“Oh, no. Everything’s fine.” Bones squeezed his arm. “Jim, about Spock, look—”

“It’s fine, Bones. Kaiidth as he would say.”

Bones nodded. “Let’s go. I’m grilling hamburgers.”

Jim grinned. “Things are looking up.”

Flash Fic Friday Post 1 01/13/17

behind-the-scenes-star-trek-2009-26426756-1437-807

My prompt for this week:

The aftermath of overthrowing a dictator, as in Jim managed it, and now he has to recover, and a first kiss. Bonus points if the race has orange skin.

It shouldn’t have gone so wrong.

But then, it involved the captain, so Spock should have surely known that it would.

They’d almost made it. Almost made it off the planet and safely back to the ship.

Spock was trying to get the captain back safely. The thing about the captain was that sometimes it was difficult to get him to move when he didn’t want to. Which in Spock’s experience was almost always. He had his own agenda and rarely deviated from whatever it was in his mind.

The mission had been a troubling one. Starfleet’s orders had been to overthrow the dictator of the planet, Naranja. Prior to its commencement, Spock and his captain had argued forever about the Prime Directive. Jim had said that while he didn’t necessarily disagree that this violated the PD—as the captain kept shortening it to—but that orders were orders.

The mission had been successful and the dictator, who had indeed been brutal to his citizens, was no more. A new government was already being established and Spock was preparing for the captain to return to the Enterprise.

Until Jim stopped to speak with a flirtatious Narajan. She had the typical orange skin of her species and grabby hands, all three of them, that were all over the captain. Each time Spock had endeavored to remind the captain that the ship was awaiting his beam up, Jim waved his hands in dismissal and kept up his conversation with the Narajan.

The captain had been conversing for fifteen minutes when the attack occurred. Suddenly a jealous suitor to the woman groping the captain came at him with a large curved spear. Spock had only just deflected it from going straight into the captain’s heart. It pierced his upper side instead.

Spock had beamed back on board with the injured and bleeding captain in his arms. Red blood covered Spock as he rushed the captain to the medbay.

And Spock had been waiting ever since.

He’d seen the way Dr. McCoy had gone a sickly white when he’d carried Jim there. It was a look Spock hoped never to see again.

The minute the doctor came out to where Spock had been waiting, Spock stood. His hands, usually so carefully restrained behind his back were twisting in front of him. McCoy, normally so expressive, let nothing be known from his expression this time.

Spock was not in the habit of panicking and yet there was a moment when he felt choked by it.

“Doctor.” He made it a statement though he was well aware it was a question.

“Well, he’s weak as a newborn, but he’s going to make it,” McCoy finally said.

He did not yet allow himself to feel relieved. “May I see him?”

McCoy looked surprised for the beat of five seconds, but then he nodded. “Sure. He’s not entirely conscious. Going in and out of it. I think that super blood served him well in the long run.”

Spock made himself nod and followed the doctor to where Jim had been set up in a private area on an extra-large biobed. He paused in his step when he noticed an oxygen tent had been set up to surround the captain.

The doctor followed Spock’s trepidatious gaze and nodded. “Yeah, his lung was punctured, so he’s going to need that for a bit. It’s all right to enter. He’ll recover, Spock.” McCoy smiled unexpectedly. “How long have you been in love with Jim?”

Spock very nearly denied it. But instead he told the truth. “I am uncertain.”

“You should tell him.”

Spock’s gaze was on Jim now. “I am uncertain as to whether he will be receptive.”

“Oh, he will.”

The assurance in McCoy’s voice had him looking quickly back at the doctor.

McCoy’s smile widened. “I’ll give you some privacy.”

It took another fifteen seconds once the doctor moved away for Spock to approach Jim’s oxygen tent. He opened the tent and then closed it tight again before carefully approaching Jim.

As the doctor had indicated, Jim was not entirely aware of Spock’s presence though a few times he opened his eyes and Spock viewed little slits of blue.

He was afraid to touch Jim while he was so injured, but he could not help but scoot closer.

“Las’hark,” he whispered. “Taluhk nash-veh k’dular.

Jim’s eyelids flickered but there was no other reaction.

Spock closed his eyes. For now, he would leave and meditate. He would return to check on Jim later. He went to turn to leave, but then stopped, leaned over and gently kissed Jim’s lips.

More blue appeared as he pulled back and for a moment, it was like Spock was in an old Earth fairytale, waking the unconscious prince, but then Jim’s eyelids fell again

“K’diwa .”

Spock undid the tent, exited, did it back up and went to meditate. With new hope.

Random Observations from My Currently Tortured Mind

beautiful-spring-neuschwanstein-castle-wallpapers-1920x1200

Above is where I wish I was today. In Germany. I’ve been there. At that castle. It’s gorgeous. Wish I was there this very second.

I’m tired. My emotional/mental state is seriously dragging right now.

I posted Who’s the Daddy and the response has been pretty good but now I have people telling me I don’t punish Spock enough and others arguing basically that Jim deserves to be treated badly because he slept with three people in 48 hours. It’s exhausted me and drained me and made me regret even posting it or anything right now, to be honest. Clearly I am not in the mood.

My family member is out of the hospital and recovering reasonably well. I will be seeing her this evening.

Is it just me or when you see the pictures from that interview Chris did with W Magazine the only reaction I could give was “Gee, I wish you’d wash your damn hair”. Sorry, greasy hair does nothing for me, even on Chris Pine.

So the other day we are watching the Karl Urban/Rock movie, Doom, for like the 10th time and there’s this strip of something lying on the tile floor on the way to our downstairs bathroom. Milo is going to the bathroom with the door open like always and goes, “What’s that on the floor?” I think it’s just like a strip of material or ribbon or something because the cats play with that stuff all the time. So I reached down to pick it up…and it’s a worm! Ugh. I screamed. Yes, I did. Which impressed the cats because they went running like Godzilla was coming through the front door or something. But it was slimy and wriggling like worms do. So I dropped it, picked up a tissue and killed it. Afterward, I was told I should have saved it and tossed it back outside. Keep in mind Milo has a bug jar he uses to traps spiders and the like to save their lives by returning them to the wild. I said next time he can pick up the worm.

What has this got to do with Doom? Not much. Other than that movie has some pretty gruesome things going on in it, like the tongue by itself just lashing around the lab. Yeah, Karl doesn’t always pick stellar movies to star in, let’s just say. But during a creepy movie to see a creepy worm, well, just gross.

My stomach has been bugging me for about three days now and I can honestly say I am sick of it.

Recommended Video for Vewing

I like to share videos of Star Trek I like and this one is a good one.

I already have a couple of Spirk videos using this song but this one is more Jimcentric than Spirk, but still really well done with the use of deleted scenes

Ramblings of the Week, 01/09/2017

chrissypoo

Can’t say I’m digging the pants, but the rest I totally dig

So here I am at another week. Full work week, too. It’s nice having at least one day off a week. The good news is my job gives us MLK off so I have a three day weekend coming up.

In other news, perhaps unwisely, I began writing and posting my “Who’s the Daddy” story. I didn’t really need another work in progress, but it’s hard to control my urges sometimes. I know it causes me to neglect some other stories, but for the most part I do always finish my stories.

No real words of wisdom this week. Just plugging along in this thing called life.

Upcoming Stories

As you may or may not know I have a series on AO3 that is Star Trek fairytales. Currently this includes the now legendary, Slave as well as Trading Places, a sort of take on Prince and the Pauper, and the very sad, tragic, Every Four Years, my leap year short.

Look for the next story in the fairytale series coming to an A03 post near you. The next one will be Cinderella, staring our own Jim Kirk as Cinderella, and the Vulcany prince looking for his true love at the ball.

Here’s my sweet peasant

And the Vulcany prince (just imagine ears)

Perfection, right?

When? In the future is all I can say.

My Coloring Attempt, Part One

For Christmas, I bought myself a coloring book. It’s supposed to be therapeutic or something. Anyway, this was my attempt today.

Yeah, I suck…

30 Things You Didn’t Know About Me (Maybe)

  • I’d never read Tolkien in school though many of my peers had. My first experience with it was when I saw Lord of the Rings. I fell in love with Hobbits, Elves, Humans, and Dwarves and ended up going to see the trilogy more than once. I own all three films. I actually read the books after I saw the movies and slogged through them. It was difficult but I found it a rewarding experience. I never did read The Hobbit nor have I seen the Hobbit films. I tried to watch part of the first one on Television and grew quickly disinterested.
  • I had never read the Harry Potter books prior to seeing the first movie. I loved the movies though. I preferred Richard Harris as Dumbledore, but alas he had to go and die. I thought he was a fabulous actor in everything he did and to me he was a more sympathetic and whimsical Dumbledore. I own all of the movies from this series too. I bought the books but in all honesty I found them nearly impossible to read.
  • I’ve always loved Star Trek. I can’t say I initially shipped Kirk and Spock but I certainly did later and well before the reboot movies. I’ve loved and watched all versions of Star Trek except I still haven’t seen Voyager or Enterprise. My plan is to someday. Like most, I hated the movie Generations for what it did to Kirk (And Spock, really, because of the whole Antonia nonsense).
  • I was ecstatic when the first Star Trek reboot movie came out and I loved it. Seeing it multiple times. When I first saw it, though I agreed Jim was cute, I didn’t go crazy for him. It wasn’t until I owned the movie on DVD that my obsession with Chris began. I also began taking note of Zach. Once I did that, my fanfiction “career” began. I never ever liked the Spock/Uhura pairing because I already shipped Kirk and Spock from TOS.
  • I’ve probably seen every episode of Ironside, Colombo, McMillan & Wife, and Murder She Wrote
  • I had a gigantic crush on Rutger Hauer in Ladyhawke. He was so badass with his armor and giant sword and turning into a wolf. Such a romantic, tragic tale. But it annoyed the crap out of me that she only ever called his hero, Etienne Navarre by his last name.
  • I liked the first three Star Wars movies well enough but I still wonder what the fuss is about
  • I own Halloween and Halloween 2
  • I didn’t learn to drive until I was in my 30s
  • I loved the show The Wonder Years
  • I loved the mystery and weirdness of Twin Peaks until they made it about demon possession
  • I drink cream with a little coffee (this is referred to by me as the Coffee of Love)
  • I like beer and wine but I am not much of a mixed drink drinker
  • I love every kind of seafood but tilapia. I even eat it hardcore raw like sashimi
  • I’ve tried frogs legs (sorry Kermit), snails, and rabbit (didn’t like any of them)
  • I do not like ham but I love bacon and pork chops
  • I’ve needed glasses since the 9th grade
  • I’ve considered the FBI, acting, journalism, and historian as careers in the past
  • I prefer Stephen King over Dean Koontz but have widely read both
  • My favorite move used to be The Godfather. I still like it a lot but it’s been taken over a long time ago.
  • I took German in high school
  • Eeyore once pinched my butt
  • I used to voraciously read books on the mob (Lucky Luciano, Myer Lansky, Bugsy Segal)
  • I freaking love the first 6 seasons of Midsomer Murders
  • I loved the first two seasons of American Horror Story (Zach was in both, coincidence? I think not), but haven’t been able to stomach the gore and horror of any other seasons
  • I actually liked the movie Agent 47: Hitman with Zach and own it. He looked hot in it
  • I think the first two Spiderman’s with Toby Maguire were the best superhero movies ever made. Next comes the first Avengers.
  • I love the main theme from Cider House Rules (it’s also the theme for the commercials for Michigan’s “Pure Michigan” tourist commercials narrated by Tim Allen)
  • I sometimes just sit and play Spirk videos for hours
  • I love role playing video games and was a huge fan of Final Fantasy
