I think I am finally on the mend from my illness. I manage to sleep through the night without waking up with an absurd amount of coughing. I wouldn’t call myself 100%, probably more like 80% but it’s so much better.

I posted the first chapter of my Cinderella Spirk story, When I Fall in Love. I had thought of having this story be the one for the T’hy’la Big Bang and I discovered as I sat down to write it that it just wasn’t going to work for that. The minimum word count for that is 10,000 and I think I intend to keep my entry to about that. So never fear, I am sure I will come up with something for that.

The reaction to my short Valentine’s story, The Rose, has been mostly positive on AO3 (I did have one person think that Jim was cruel to Bones, but you know life isn’t always roses and wine and everything fine).

I am currently working on the next chapter of Young and Beautiful. I don’t actually think it was next in my spreadsheet, but I just felt like working on it.

I have been playing this silly game on my phone and right now they have a special game going where you can get a special pink fish for Valentine’s Day. Well, as most of those games do, they want you to spend money on their “free game” and last night I went a little nuts (it happens) and spent $50 on extras for the game just to get through the extra game to get the special pink fish. After I got her I just went, what the hell did I just do? I confessed my sins to my SO who was aghast to say the least. Ugh LOL.

Kind of a Sad Song

Flash Fic Friday, February 10, 2017

Obviously this is a continuation from the previous two weeks.
My prompt was fairly simple, Spock clears up any confusion.

1469048095301

If there was one thing Jim didn’t care for it was games. He wanted people to be straight with him and not hide behind anonymity. He’d never had a secret admirer and he wasn’t about to start. He tossed the rose in the trash.

Valentine’s Day was for fools and suckers. And Jim wasn’t about to be either one.

Okay, maybe his mood wasn’t the best. Jim could admit that.

His door chimed and he turned with a sigh.

Ship’s business would surely distract him from this ailment.

“Enter.”

When Spock stepped inside he quarters, Jim nearly ordered him out. But then caught himself. Spock was not responsible for Jim’s bad mood. Maybe indirectly, sure, but not really Spock’s fault.

“Hey.”

And after that brilliant opening, Spock remained silent, his gaze going past Jim to the little trash bin next to Jim’s desk.

“You did not appreciate the rose?” Spock asked.

“That?” Jim snorted. “Someone’s idea of a joke, I guess.”

“A joke?”

Jim crossed his arms in front of his chest. “What can I help you with?”

“I confess I am at a loss at present.”

He frowned. “A loss? About what?”

“Romantic gestures. The advice I have been given is apparently wrong.”

“Advice? You mean Uhura?”

Spock nodded. “Indeed.”

He tapped his fingers on his sleeve. “You got bad advice on romance for Uhura?”

“Negative.”

Jim blinked. “But you said—”

“From Uhura not for her.”

“Huh?”

Spock sighed. There was no other word for the sound his first officer made. “Everything I have tried has been unsuccessful. I can only come to the conclusion that my interest is not reciprocated after all.”

“Everything you’ve tried? For who?”

“You cannot be this obtuse.”

“Excuse me?”

The sigh again. “The rose, a declaration of affection, was left in your quarters by me. Since only a very few senior officers and your yeoman have access to your quarters at all, I would have thought it was fairly obvious.”

Jim stared at him.

“I attempted to ask you to a concert on Risa which you refused.”

“Wait, what? You were with Uhura.”

“Nyota and I were attending the concert as friends. It was her suggestion that I ask you, as it would be a casual, relaxing atmosphere in which to learn your interest.”

“My-my interest?” Jim felt a little faint.

“I also invited you to play chess last night, you refused the invitation. There were other attempts if you would like me to mention them.”

“Spock, I had no idea you wanted me to go the concert with you. I thought you were being polite.”

“I am not known to care for such social graces.”

Jim licked his lips. His heart was hammering. “That-that day was not good for me. It was Sam’s birthday and—”

“Yes.” Spock took a step closer. “I thought perhaps you would like to be distracted from your melancholia. But you did not appear to wish for a distraction.”

Jim bent down and retrieved the rose. “This is from you?”

“Yes. I was told it was an appropriate gesture for Valentine’s Day. I confess I have no notion how to be romantic in any way.”

Jim smiled and stepped up to Spock, holding the rose. “I don’t know, Mister Spock. I think maybe you’re doing okay.”

Spock stared at him, dark eyes unreadable yet intense. “Then may I presume my interest is reciprocated after all?”

“Are you kidding?”

“Vulcans do not—”

Jim laughed. “Yeah, I know.” He kissed Spock, right on the lips, the lips he’d wanted to taste, well since, forever, really. In all his forevers.

Spock’s hand curled around the nape of Jim’s neck, drawing him in closer.

“In fact—”

“It is time to be quiet now,” Spock murmured against Jim’s lips.

He tried to be affronted, but damn Spock could kiss. “Okay, I get it. Live in the moment. Because—”

“Jim.”

He smiled against Spock’s mouth. “Shutting up.”

Another Spock sigh. This one sounding warmer and softer somehow. “At last.”

Stand Under My Umbrella

Challenging

star-trek-4-kirk-and-spock

One of the things I like to do with my stories is challenge myself. I started writing a couple of mpreg stories to see what the big deal is, for example. But even then the stories had to be different, which is why you got The Hardest Part and now Who’s the Daddy.

In 2016 I challenged myself to take place in the Old Married Spirk Challenge, writing both an TOS, Every Hour Has Come to This and an AOS entry, A Satisfactory Life.

This year, I am taking on the biggest challenge yet, taking part in the T’hy’la Big Bang challenge.  I saw the sign up and challenge information online yesterday and after a bit of discussion with a close friend, I decided to do it. While I can’t talk about the story I will be writing for it, I believe I am able to say that I am taking part in it. I think posting isn’t until June, though there are a number of deadlines before that. I probably won’t say much more than this on it, but I do hope I am not biting off more than I can chew.

Flash Fic Friday, January 20, 2017

My prompt for this week was a stupid argument, a new star system, and bonus points for a scorching kiss. I decided to use my ongoing Jim & Spock from my One-Shot Collection, Part 5 who are in the beginnings of their couplehood. Oh and probably NSFW.

“Hey.”

Jim scowled as Bones nudged him with the toe of his boot under the table. “Hey yourself. What do you want anyway? Can’t you see I’m busy?”

Bones looked pretty much unaffected by Jim’s sour mood. “You’re on your PADD, ignoring a gloopy mess that passes for oatmeal like most mornings. What’s different?”

“We’re supposed to investigate a new star system.”

His friend shrugged. “So? We’ve done that before. Why the grouchfest?”

“It’s nothing.” Jim reached for his coffee and took a sip. He put it back down with a grimace when he realized it was cold.

Bones tapped his fingers on the table. “Where’s lover boy?”

“Who?”

“Mister Pointy.”

Jim grunted.

“Your first hobgoblin.”

Jim returned his attention to his PADD. “How would I know that?”

“Aren’t you two doing the nasty?”

“No. I told you before we haven’t done it. There’s always something that happens. He gets hurt. I get hurt. There’s a red alert. Uhura needs him to write music. Whatever.”

“Far be it for me to want to even imagine anything between you two, but Jim sometimes you just have to make time.”

“It doesn’t matter now. I don’t think we’re ever going to do it at this point.”

Bones frowned. “Should I ask?”

“Spock’s just a big stupid jerk.”

“Uh-oh.”

Jim just shook his head and continued reading about the new star system.

After a minute, Bones cleared his throat. “Trouble in paradise?”

“Hardly paradise. And yeah, you could say that.”

“You didn’t break up, did you?”

“I don’t know. Maybe. I flounced out of his quarters last night and I haven’t seen or heard from him since.”

“You had a fight.”

Jim nodded.

“Do I want to know what about?”

“It was stupid.”

“Aren’t they all?” Bones smirked, but there was no malice behind it. His eyes were sympathetic. “Details?”

Jim blew out a breath. “He never gets jealous.”

“And that’s a bad thing?”

“Well, yeah. I mean the Chancellor’s daughter was all over me on that last planet, she even kissed me. Which Spock witnessed, by the way. And nothing.”

“So, it is a bad thing?” Bones smiled. “Maybe he just trusts you, Jim.”

“I asked him if it bothered him that I flirt and he said no. I asked him if it bothered him that I cheated when she kissed me. He said he doesn’t consider kissing cheating. Which led me to believe he’s been going around my back kissing others.”

“Um, what?”

“If he doesn’t consider it bad, it’s because he wants to do it himself, right?”

“That’s some bizarre logic.”

“That’s what he said. Then I asked him if it would bother him if I actually had sex with someone else.”

“Lord save me.”

“His answer was a very calm, ‘have you?’ Just like that, in this total robotic voice.” Jim refrained from growling but barely. “I said, ‘no.’”

“And?”

“He said then this was a completely pointless conversation.”

Bones sorted of nodded. “He had a point.”

“Don’t start with me, Bones. You’re supposed to be on my side.”

“I am.”

“That’s when I left his quarters.”

“Flounced,” Bones reminded him. “Jim, you aren’t going to like what I have to say.”

“When do I ever?”

“True,” Bones replied. “Maybe Spock is just what you need.”

“Excuse me?”

“Gee, I don’t know, Jim, it seems like Spock intends for you to have a mature, healthy relationship that doesn’t include a bunch of games. You ought to try it sometime.”

Jim opened his mouth and then closed it.

“You’ve never had a real, healthy relationship built on trust and love have you?”

“Well.

“Yeah, well. Games about whether Spock’s jealous if you flirt or kiss someone or imply you slept with someone, it’s all bullshit. Do you really want to lose Spock over something that stupid or do ya, I don’t know, wanna grow up?”

His communicator chirped.

“Bridge to Captain Kirk.”

Jim flipped open his communicator. “Kirk here.”

“Klingon Bird of Prey on approach, sir.”

Jim was already out of his seat. “Go to red alert, Mr. Sulu.”

****

Jim was exhausted and sure he could sleep on his feet as he entered his quarters after the battle. He’d fallen out of his chair at one point and banged his head pretty good. Even got a cut across his brow. But Bones had fixed it, in between dealing with more serious injuries. There were casualties, nine altogether, which wasn’t horrible, really, but still more than Jim wanted.

He eyed the bathroom door and tried to decide if he wanted to take a shower or if he wanted to just fall right into bed.

He turned toward the bed when his door chimed.

Probably some update from the battle, so he should probably get it.

“Open.”

When Spock stepped in, Jim was not prepared to see him. They’d worked together during the Klingon Battle. Spock had even pulled Jim up after he’d fallen out of his chair and hit his head. But they’d both been busy and hadn’t had time to talk or have alone time. And suddenly their argument came crashing down on Jim. Inexplicably, Jim’s gaze went to the pinky ring Spock had gifted him with at Christmas.

Or maybe not so inexplicable.

He recalled during their fight, just before he’d flounced out, he had twisted it on his finger and shot out, “Do you want this back?”

The weight of his ugliness from that argument was a lot to bear.

“Spock—”

Suddenly Spock moved, pushing him hard against the bulkhead in his quarters. He had Jim trapped between his two muscular arms that slammed against the wall. Jim’s eyes widened in shock.

“I demand to know now if your intention is for a fully committed relationship between us.”

Jim licked his lips. “Well I—”

“Now, Captain.”

In any other circumstances, meaning if Spock didn’t look just like he had before he’d choked Jim to within an inch of his life, Jim would have found humor in how Spock insisted on calling him captain in such an intimate situation. Just now with his heart pounding, he was anything but amused. Fucking turned on was more like it. Yeah, he had no shame.

“Yes.”

Spock arched a brow, even as his dark gaze lowered to Jim’s lips. “Yes what?”

“Yes, I’m fully committed.”

Those dark eyes rose and met his eyes. The room was still charged with that same intensity between them right before Nero.

Jim opened his mouth, prepared to say more, but then Spock’s lips were on his, unexpectedly kissing him, no devouring him, and as Jim gasped, the Vulcan’s tongue thrust in, tangling with his like a sensual sword fight.

If Spock wasn’t trapping him there, Jim would have fallen to his knees. He was instantly, achingly hard.

Please.

Spock’s fists clenched the top of his uniform shirt and, with fucking hot strength that made lust pool Jim’s belly, he ripped it down the middle then quickly discarded the remnants of Jim’s shirt. He had dozens in his closet to replace it.

Spock, eyes blazing hot, looked down at Jim’s boots. “Why are you still wearing those?”

“Because I—”

“Silence, you are not to speak.”

Jim snorted. “You asked me a—”

Spock slapped his hands over Jim’s mouth.

Jim tried to be affronted, but really, his dick was just too hard.

Conclusion, Bones Gets Married

And here’s the final part, thanks for indulging me. It may end up at AO3. And for photos, I just wanted to use these even though it doesn’t really go with the story HA HA. Maybe this is what they wear to the wedding when it happens. With pointy ears of course.

Jim felt full for the first time in a long time. Maybe Bones was right and he should eat more. The thing was he didn’t enjoy cooking for just himself so he spent most nights at his office at HQ late into the night until, really, he had to go home and face his empty apartment. He survived on coffee, mostly, at HQ, and when he got home he didn’t want a big meal right before bed, so he had the replicator make himself something small like toast.

He was outside by himself, in Bones’ front yard, actually. It was a little chillier than he’d thought it would be considering how warm it had been during the day. Inside he could hear Bones, Shayla, and Joanna washing dishes in the kitchen. It was too fucking cute, is what it was. Jim was glad Bones was happy. Even if it meant Bones was no longer just down the hall from him.

When they’d first returned from that last mission Bones and Shayla had an apartment in the same building, literally down the hall from his. But Bones wanted to live closer to Jo, which Jim totally didn’t blame him,  and pretty soon they were moving to Georgia.

Jim hated all the changes. And he was way lonelier than he’d thought he would be. But well, that was life wasn’t it?

He was about to turn and go back into the house when the hover car appeared just a few houses down. Jim stopped to watch it. He was more than a little surprised when a small Vulcan boy appeared. He looked to be just over three years old. He had the typical bowl cut, though his hair was not as dark as most Vulcans, and the cutest little pointed ears. He was dressed in jeans and a buttoned down shirt, rather than the Vulcan robes one might expect. He carried what appeared to be a stuffed sehlat.

Jim could not help but smile at the boy as he approached Jim with a very serious expression.

The boy held up his hand in the ta’al. “Live long and prosper.”

Jim returned the gesture. “Peace and long life.”

He crouched down to the boys level then.

“Would it be considered illogical to embrace you?” the boy asked.

Jim’s smile widened. “Absolutely not. It’s entirely logical.”

The Vulcan boy nodded and then leaned forward to wrap his small arms around Jim. Jim returned the hug tightly.

Then he pulled back. “Where is your sa-mekh?”

“He is coming.”

Jim straightened as Spock was walking from the direction the little Vulcan had come from.

“Hey,” Jim said softly.

As Spock reached him, Jim heard the front door open behind him.

“I didn’t know you were coming.”

“It was difficult to finish in time, but I did not wish to miss Leonard’s wedding,” Spock told him. He was dressed in black jeans and a black sweater.

Jim grabbed the collar of Spock’s sweater and kissed him thoroughly.

“Get a room,” Bones called from the front porch.

Jim laughed and then kissed Spock again. “God, I’ve missed you.”

“And I you, Adun.”

“If you avert your eyes, it is easier,” Jim’s son said to Bones.

“Yes, but your Dad is a noisy kisser, I can still hear him.”

“Oh, be quiet,” Jim said, throwing his arms around Spock’s neck. “So, do you have to go back?”

“Negative. Not for several months. We will return to our home in San Francisco with you.”

“How come you didn’t tell me?”

“We didn’t want to get your hopes up, Jim, in case Spock couldn’t make it happen.”

“Well, it’s a great surprise.” Jim turned from Spock and reached down to scoop up the Vulcan boy. He kissed his son soundly on the boy’s cheek, laughing when he made a face. “Now, it’s a vacation!”

Bones Gets Married, Chap 2

karl-urban-5

Chapter 2

“Jim, it’s so good to see you,” Shayla greeted him with the briefest of hugs. She was part Orion, part Human, and exotically beautiful with light green skin and raven hair. They’d met on the Enterprise during their second mission and had been together ever since. They’d never talked of marriage, though it was plain they were committed. Jim was sure Bones was firmly in the never again category.

“You look radiant as usual.” He kissed her cheek.

She patted her stomach then with a smile. “We’re expecting.”

“Fantastic. I’m ready to be an uncle again.”

“Where’s my present?” Joanna asked.

“Jo, that’s not nice,” Bones told her.

“Well.” She pouted a little. “He said he had one.”

Jim laughed. “It’s okay. Come, help me open my bag. It’s inside.” Joanna ran to his bag and opened it up, taking out the box with the “Build Your Own Enterprise” in it. She squealed with delight and then ran off with the box to get online to show her mother.

Bones smiled. “Come on outside to the grill.”

Jim followed him outside. “How long is Jo staying with you guys?”

“For the summer. Basically until it’s time for her to go back to school. She’s been a big help to Shayla.”

“God, you’re so damn domesticated.”

Bones  nodded. “Kind of sickening, I know. How are you doing, Jim?”

Jim leaned against the patio wall. “Keeping busy.”

“Working too hard, you mean.”

Jim shrugged. “What else can I do right now?”

“Not work too hard?” Bones sighed. “When was the last time you had a physical?”

“Um, I don’t know?”

“You aren’t eating right. Hell, you look like you aren’t eating at all.”

“Bones.”

Bones poked his ribs. “What are you eating?”

“I eat.”

“That’s not an answer. Is it the admiralty?”

“I am the admiralty.”

“You know what I mean. They give you about six billion different things you’re responsible for.”

“Just tactical stuff.”

“Just.” Bones rolled his eyes. “Inspections, too. How many ship inspections have you done in the last few months?”

“A few.”

Bones quirked his brow.

“Okay, a lot. But let’s talk about you. Are you ready for this shindig?”

“It’s not actually a shindig. It’s pretty small. Most of our friends are in space and she hasn’t seen her dad in over a decade. Her mom will be here though.”

“It’s going to be great, no matter how big it is.”

Bones flipped several burgers. “Jim—”

“Bones. Don’t start, all right?”

“I worry about you. In San Francisco all alone.”

“I’m fine. Really.” Jim smiled. “And that reminds me. I gotta check in. I’ll be right back.” He went inside for his PADD.

Weekly Ramblings, Week of 01/16/2017

lick

I am off today for MLK Day. It’s my last work holiday until Memorial Day.

Once again I had to delete a comment on Who’s the Daddy that upset me. Basically this person called Jim a slut and implied Spock had a right to treat him like crap and said basically how big it was of Spock to apologize. This person has commented on fics of mine in the past and I have had no issues with the comments, but in their effort to defend Spock I guess they have to be extra crude about Jim and I really am offended by it. I either had to delete it or I was in danger of making a really rude response.

I’ll be gone this coming weekend as well as a couple of days after that. I won’t be updating January 21-24. You will have to find someone else to love besides me.
