Is it Only Wednesday?

I’m making great progress on my super-secret T’hy’la Big Bang story and I am absolutely loving what I’ve done so far. I can’t give any more details than that.

Today is about 80 degrees here and I am kind of roasting. But by Friday we are supposed to be raining again. It’s a little nuts.

Makes you want one of these.

shirtless2

This has been an unproductive week so far at work as we are having major systems issues.

My cough continues to linger which is no fun.

Anybody else get these random followers who seem to make no sense? Maybe it’s a “bot”.

That’s about the news on my end. I will have a flash fic on Friday, exclusive to the blog.

The Return

chrissy

I only wish I could say I was better. I’m still feeling crummy. Yesterday, Tuesday, I had something of a relapse and felt worse than I had in days. I still have the cough and lots of guck coming out of my nose (I know, gross). But I am back home and back at work.

Our cat sitter/watcher neglected to check on one of our cats, Luna, and she had locked herself in the bedroom. She manages to open and close doors. She does, really. Anyway, she loves the bed, so she was in there and somehow closed the door on herself and this chick never bothered to check on her Monday when she came to feed them. She spent at least 24 hours locked in this room by herself. She peed and pooped all over the bed and was starving poor thing when we came home. I was not amused.

So I spent a large part of my miserable evening taking care of that, as you can imagine.

I haven’t had sex in over a week and I’m going a little nutty. I just want to feel normal again.

The trip was nice though on Sunday it poured like the Dickens in California and caused all kinds of flooding issues. I am glad to be home and to have a short work week. I plan on taking it very easy this weekend.

Today at lunch I will begin working on Anything.

Weekly Ramblings, Week of 01/16/2017

lick

I am off today for MLK Day. It’s my last work holiday until Memorial Day.

Once again I had to delete a comment on Who’s the Daddy that upset me. Basically this person called Jim a slut and implied Spock had a right to treat him like crap and said basically how big it was of Spock to apologize. This person has commented on fics of mine in the past and I have had no issues with the comments, but in their effort to defend Spock I guess they have to be extra crude about Jim and I really am offended by it. I either had to delete it or I was in danger of making a really rude response.

I’ll be gone this coming weekend as well as a couple of days after that. I won’t be updating January 21-24. You will have to find someone else to love besides me.

30 Things You Didn’t Know About Me (Maybe)

  • I’d never read Tolkien in school though many of my peers had. My first experience with it was when I saw Lord of the Rings. I fell in love with Hobbits, Elves, Humans, and Dwarves and ended up going to see the trilogy more than once. I own all three films. I actually read the books after I saw the movies and slogged through them. It was difficult but I found it a rewarding experience. I never did read The Hobbit nor have I seen the Hobbit films. I tried to watch part of the first one on Television and grew quickly disinterested.
  • I had never read the Harry Potter books prior to seeing the first movie. I loved the movies though. I preferred Richard Harris as Dumbledore, but alas he had to go and die. I thought he was a fabulous actor in everything he did and to me he was a more sympathetic and whimsical Dumbledore. I own all of the movies from this series too. I bought the books but in all honesty I found them nearly impossible to read.
  • I’ve always loved Star Trek. I can’t say I initially shipped Kirk and Spock but I certainly did later and well before the reboot movies. I’ve loved and watched all versions of Star Trek except I still haven’t seen Voyager or Enterprise. My plan is to someday. Like most, I hated the movie Generations for what it did to Kirk (And Spock, really, because of the whole Antonia nonsense).
  • I was ecstatic when the first Star Trek reboot movie came out and I loved it. Seeing it multiple times. When I first saw it, though I agreed Jim was cute, I didn’t go crazy for him. It wasn’t until I owned the movie on DVD that my obsession with Chris began. I also began taking note of Zach. Once I did that, my fanfiction “career” began. I never ever liked the Spock/Uhura pairing because I already shipped Kirk and Spock from TOS.
  • I’ve probably seen every episode of Ironside, Colombo, McMillan & Wife, and Murder She Wrote
  • I had a gigantic crush on Rutger Hauer in Ladyhawke. He was so badass with his armor and giant sword and turning into a wolf. Such a romantic, tragic tale. But it annoyed the crap out of me that she only ever called his hero, Etienne Navarre by his last name.
  • I liked the first three Star Wars movies well enough but I still wonder what the fuss is about
  • I own Halloween and Halloween 2
  • I didn’t learn to drive until I was in my 30s
  • I loved the show The Wonder Years
  • I loved the mystery and weirdness of Twin Peaks until they made it about demon possession
  • I drink cream with a little coffee (this is referred to by me as the Coffee of Love)
  • I like beer and wine but I am not much of a mixed drink drinker
  • I love every kind of seafood but tilapia. I even eat it hardcore raw like sashimi
  • I’ve tried frogs legs (sorry Kermit), snails, and rabbit (didn’t like any of them)
  • I do not like ham but I love bacon and pork chops
  • I’ve needed glasses since the 9th grade
  • I’ve considered the FBI, acting, journalism, and historian as careers in the past
  • I prefer Stephen King over Dean Koontz but have widely read both
  • My favorite move used to be The Godfather. I still like it a lot but it’s been taken over a long time ago.
  • I took German in high school
  • Eeyore once pinched my butt
  • I used to voraciously read books on the mob (Lucky Luciano, Myer Lansky, Bugsy Segal)
  • I freaking love the first 6 seasons of Midsomer Murders
  • I loved the first two seasons of American Horror Story (Zach was in both, coincidence? I think not), but haven’t been able to stomach the gore and horror of any other seasons
  • I actually liked the movie Agent 47: Hitman with Zach and own it. He looked hot in it
  • I think the first two Spiderman’s with Toby Maguire were the best superhero movies ever made. Next comes the first Avengers.
  • I love the main theme from Cider House Rules (it’s also the theme for the commercials for Michigan’s “Pure Michigan” tourist commercials narrated by Tim Allen)
  • I sometimes just sit and play Spirk videos for hours
  • I love role playing video games and was a huge fan of Final Fantasy

For the World is Hollow

Don’t really know what that has to do with my post, I’m just a Star Trek nerd.

Sometimes I feel like this:

Or maybe this:

contemplative

I love December and the holidays involved with it. But it is not without its stresses and also its sad moments. A couple of people I was very close to had birthdays in December and each year that passes with them no longer with us I cannot help but feel that heartbreak.

Neither died during December but their births remind me even though both have been gone several years now.

One was born on December 12, which has now already passed for the year, and though I won’t go into details of the significance or even the identity of this person, there is a particular Christmas song that reminds me, Augie Rios’ Donde Esta Santa Claus. For a long time I was unable to get this version, which is the one that I remember my loved one for. Then a few years back on December 12th, I was sitting in my car waiting at the train station when the radio station I was listening to played this song and that version. To this day I remember sitting there with tears streaming down my face.

I do not believe in God, have not for a very long time, but to say that was a freakish coincidence is putting it lightly.

Now, I own this song and play it at least once on the 12th, and other times too.

The other was born on the 18th, a week before Christmas. She has been gone fewer years than the other but her absence is also keenly felt.

And others, too. Each year sees changes in our holidays, absences that cannot be overlooked. And I feel that more as I get older. Your mortality hits you hard at some point.

Last night was not a good night for me. I spent the night in severe pain on my left side from a bad arthritic attack and no matter how I tried I could not get comfortable. Losing loved ones and living with pain is something you learn to get used to as you age, I guess. But all I know is that time is marching on and will eventually leave me behind.

Tomorrow, Saturday, I intend to do a lot of Christmas shopping. I want to finish everything. I have a good start but tomorrow it will be over, if I have anything to say about it. I admit I have gone way overboard this year. I just feel the need to. My credit cards will not thank me later.

And since more and more holiday stuff is coming up, I am beginning to think I have bitten off far more than I can chew with regard to my holiday stories. Should have learned to leave well enough alone.

I have no more time off from work coming up other than the regular holidays of December 26 (for Christmas) and January 02 (for New Year’s). I decided to let co-workers take the holiday time to be with their families. And I have a ton of work to do, as always.

Anyway, I am working on the next chapter of I Heard the Bells. Should be up tomorrow before I go marathon shopping.

Weekly Ramblings, 12/05/2016 Edition

There’s an interesting phenomenon on AO3 that continues to leave me puzzled. Those that follow me as as an overall writer on there (as opposed to following a specific story) is constantly fluctuating. Saturday I had 660 followers. This morning I have 658. I have absolutely no clue what I did to turn off those two followers. But this happens constantly to me. And I am always left wondering why.

Had a pretty nice weekend of watching mostly Christmas movies on Saturday.

I managed to watch A Christmas Carol with Alistair Sims. This is a 1951 version many quote as their favorite.I like this version but it’s not my favorite, though it’s quite well done. There are a couple of things I don’t care for. One: the Tiny Tim (he’s actually a cute little boy) who is the same size as the actress who plays his mother. There is a scene where they are walking along the backdrop of shops and they are side by side and the little actor boy is the same size as the actress playing his mom, Hermione Baddeley, who was 5″3″. I’m sorry but if you are going to play “Tiny Tim” you are supposed to be a small, frail boy. Not someone who looks like they could run out and play soccer with a healthy glow.

My other issue with this version is that Scrooge’s long lost love is renamed, inexplicably, Alice. The story is quite clear that her name is Belle. Whatever is wrong with that name, actually written by the extremely famous author that you feel the need to change it to Alice, is beyond me.

Otherwise, it’s a fine version and Alistair Sims is definitely a fantastic Scrooge.

I also watched It’s a Wonderful Life, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, and the Little Drummer Boy. I did some online shopping for Christmas also.

Sunday I went to see a Christmas show as well as went to a nice dinner.

So all in all a nice weekend.

I have begun the next chapter of My Devotion, though I haven’t got it completed or even know when I will have it done. With Christmas going on, my regular updates will likely be slower.

I am working on a story called I Heard the Bells, which is apparently a hard sell for most of my regular readers (if I have any) because it’s not getting much love. Ah, well. To each their own. Can’t say I am not disappointed though. Should have stuck to my original idea of not writing any more Christmas stories.

I’m crazy busy at the real job right now so not sure when my next update of anything will be but I know for sure it won’t be today.

Have a good week.

My Own Favorites

Chris Pine plays Kirk in Star Trek Beyond from Paramount Pictures, Skydance, Bad Robot, Sneaky Shark and Perfect Storm Entertainment

We all have our favorites of work we’ve written. Or maybe that’s just me, but I don’t think so.

I was talking to my dear bff Kris about this and she shared with me her favorites of mine. I started talking about it because I was mentioning a particular story of mine that is popular and the reason why always eludes me. I don’t hate the story but it’s not in my top 5 of what I’ve written. Maybe not even top 10. Yet it has the most Kudos of any story I have out there.

So here is my list of my own favorites in no particular order and I am keeping it at 5

Not in Love

Not an Ordinary Life

Somewhere Else

In Another Life

A Spirky Christmas Carol

It was hard for me to choose A Spirky Christmas Carol over Going Boldly because I adore my longest fic, but A Christmas Carol is my all time favorite story and the tale told from Spock’s angle/POV is particularly poignant for me.

So there you have it, my top 5 COMPLETED works. I have a few favorites in the new stuff.

Random Thoughts

I may, on occasion,  post something here exclusively or at least here first. We shall see.

I am trying to find a picture of Chris to go with my wintery Zach picture for my Winter Spirk story. This is harder, of course, since Chris is a Californian.

The closest I could come to is one where he’s in The Finest Hours
