It’s just a short service by the little place in the ground where they put the urn. But we will all be there. I’m not a public speaker but I agreed to say something at the service. I’ll be reading it from my phone
After we head over to my sister’s for sandwiches and cheesecake. I don’t know why everyone eats after a service but they seem to.
That’s my day.

All the hugs.
I always thought it was a way to connect with family and reaffirm life. Or something. Either way it’s a thing. Take what comfort you can.

The food is just a way to give everyone a way to be together and talk or grieve together. And every time a group of people get together, eventually they’re gonna gravitate to something to drink…and eat.
Food and drink make it easier to spend time together than just staring at each other with no distraction. I think, at least. It’s harder to cry when you’re chewing, I think.
My thoughts are with you and your family, and especially with you as you speak. As a writer, you’re a good choice.

Sending love and hugs to you and to your family!
😘🤗
I agree with the above. Gathering at a meal… breaking the bread so to speak, with one another. Gives you time to reflect on the past and connect with other family and friends that perhaps you haven’t been with in awhile. Time to perhaps put past hurts or differences aside to grieve and support one another.
((HUGS!!))

I didn’t even think of this either.
Eating together can’t help but bring up memories of other meals we’ve shared together. Which might spark memories of holidays and happy times together.

Thank you
We’re pretty close to brother’s family so not many differences there but I do think it helps to reflect on some good things with their dad
