Life is a Little Crazy Right Now

Never fear I will have a flash for Friday done. I promise that.

But I am trying to get a hundred other things done right now in life and at work where we just got a new system this week and then the holiday weekend is upon us and I’m just behind on everything. Those of you following my stories on AO3 I promise nothing is abandoned or forgotten and I will get to them again. Hopefully soon.

But again there will be a flash Friday and I even have one in mind!

Here are the boys waiting anxiously for that flash! LOL

Flash Fic, May 16, 2025

This one is short and sweet. I’m off for a long weekend this weekend (long one next weekend as well but I’ll be in town for Memorial Day). Enjoy !

As soon as Spock opened his eyes, Jim was at his side, reaching for the Vulcan’s hand.

Spock still looked half asleep, but he croaked out, “Ashayam?”

Jim smiled. “Hi, sweetheart. You’re okay.”

“You?”

“Yes. You’re the one who has still been recovering.”

Spock was silent, considering. “Then…I did not harm you during…”

“Nope. I was a little tired but otherwise fine. And now I’ve rested. It’s over.” Jim squeezed his hand. “You okay?”

“I think so. I am relieved you are unharmed.”

“You had concerns, I know.”

“All right love birds, I want Spock to rest for another night and then he can be released back to his quarters.” Bones pushed up between them. “And you skedaddle, Jim. You’re not due to be on duty until tomorrow and you can see Spock is fine.”

“At least let me kiss my husband before I go.” Jim pushed Bones out of the way, leaned down and kissed Spock’s forehead. “I’ll be back for you in the morning.”

“Go,” Bones insisted.

“Love you.”

“Go,” Bones said louder.

“Love you too, Bones.”

And when Bones started to chase after him, Jim ran away laughing.

The sequel/conclusion

“May I come in?” Spock asked.

Jim blinked, blearily, still a little groggy from having dozed off. He didn’t move.

“Jim?”

He shook his head.

“You will not allow me entry?”

“What? No. Come in. Sorry.” He stood back to allow Spock to enter.

“You were sleeping?”

“Uh.” Jim wiped his hand over his face. “Yeah.”

“Your message to me appeared to be urgent and I noted you made several attempts. I assumed whatever the situation was, it could not wait.”

Jim sighed and led Spock to sit down. “Sorry. I guess…I sorta of overreacted to being unable to reach you. I’m leaving for Riverside in the morning.”

It was Spock’s turn to look mildly confused. “Riverside?”

“It’s where I’m from.”

“Yes. But…you are quitting the Academy?”

“No.” He laughed. “Though some people might want me to. I’m going for a long weekend to see my mom. And I guess I just had something to tell you and I went a little nuts when I couldn’t reach you. I’m sorry, Spock.” Jim now felt foolish about the whole thing. Even wanting to tell his friend his true feelings. “It’s not the big deal I implied it was.”

“I see. What was it you wanted to tell me?”

“I don’t even remember now,” Jim lied, avoiding Spock’s gaze. “Sorry to make you come here in the middle of the night.”

“Very well, then I will allow you to finish your night’s rest.”

Spock rose and Jim followed him to the door.

“You…you wouldn’t want to come with me, would you?”

“With you to Riverside?” At Jim’s nod, Spock asked, “Why?”

Yeah, why?

Jim pushed Spock against the door and kissed him…hard. And then when he pulled back for a moment’s breath, he moved back in and kissed him again.

They both pulled away, breathless.

“Well?”

“Yes, I will come with you.”

“Stay?”

“Only the dorm being on fire would cause me to depart.”

Jim grinned and pulled him closer once more. “Well…then.” He kissed Spock for a long time.

Flash Fic, May 02, 2025

This is inspired by Heart’s song, Alone

Jim had left a message for Spock to get back to him, but so far, Spock had not returned to his apartment, Jim supposed, to get that message.

He didn’t really want to think Spock had received it and had chosen to ignore it.

So Jim lay in the dark on his dorm room bed unable to sleep. Thar afternoon he’d attempted to contact Spock on his communicator and it had gone unanswered.

He’d considered that unusual but then later he had spotted Spock at a café not far from the Academy campus with a group of other instructors and even a few students who acted as assistants to various instructors.   He’d been frustrated to see it but it explained why Spock had not picked up his communicator.

Jim had tried a few more times later but stopped when he thought he might appear stalkerish.

All this because he had decided to tell Spock he wanted more than friendship from him. He was in love with Spock and had been for a while. The thing was Jim hated being in love because it scared him. In the past he’d always held back some of himself so he couldn’t become emotionally involved. He’d learned his lessons at a younger age.

But then Spock came along and everything changed.

Did it matter that the very day Jim had decided to tell Spock he wasn’t available?

He finally left a note on Spock’s apartment door to contact him, but that still hadn’t happened.

And Jim was fast losing his nerve. He couldn’t shake the feeling that this was a mistake. Bones had been right, Spock was out of his league.

Well, Bones had said it the other way around, but his friend was biased and Jim knew the truth of it.

Honestly, considering their rocky start with Jim beating Spock’s test, he’d been surprised they ended up friends.

There had been rumors that Uhura wanted Spock to be in a relationship with her, but Jim hadn’t seen any indication that Spock had been amenable to that, although he did see her in the group at the café.

In the morning, Jim was taking a shuttle to Riverside for a long weekend to visit his mother. He’d hoped to tell Spock everything before that, maybe even convince Spock to come with him to meet his mom, but that wasn’t going to happen now. And that was life, he guessed. A missed opportunity. Perhaps forever.

Jim sighed and turned over, deciding he might as well get some sleep.

He’d been dozing maybe ten minutes when there was a knock at the door. Now a little groggy, he wiped his hand over his face and stumbled to the door. He opened it.

His mouth dropped open.

“Spock?”

Last Friday flash for April as we will be in May next Friday. Sorry for the simplicity. I’ve been fairly lazy and distracted this week. I hope you enjoy anyway!

Spock rushed into the medbay, heart pounding in his side. He stopped abruptly when he spotted Jim sitting up on the edge of the biobed. Spock hurried forward.

“Jim—”

“Whabba dooba hweh.”

McCoy appeared by the bed. “Oh Spock. Hello. As you can see Jim’s face has blown up to twice normal size. His tongue too.”

“I was notified you were injured,” Spock told the captain.

“Nob awn injweee.”

Spock shook his head and looked to McCoy. “Explain.”

“Ensign Hightower offered him some dish he made from one of those plants on the planet we visited two days ago. Dummy here just took a big ol bite without thinking.”

“Ib swek mah tom ott bwt hwets.”

McCoy smirks. “It’s childish to stick your tongue out anyway.”

“You understand him?” Spock asked.

“Surprisingly. Anyway, I’m giving him injections to bring the swelling down and remove the toxins but I’ll be admitting him and keeping him overnight for observation.”

Jim’s lumpy swollen face managed to look sad and dejected. “Sowwy.”

“I am sorry you obviously are in pain and discomfort.”

“That will mostly past in an hour or so,” the doctor advised. “The worst is over. But I do want to admit him and get him to rest. You can come take him out of here in the morning.”

Spock nodded. “Very well. I will leave him in your capable hands.” He leaned over to see where he could place a quick kiss to his bondmate, saw none he really wanted to, honestly, so he reached over and stroked a finger on Jim’s normal looing hand.

“Rest well, T’hy’la.”

Jim sighed and nodded.

Spock left the medbay, thinking at least he’d be able to get caught up on some paperwork.

An Easter Flash April 2025

Hope you enjoy

Jim awakened to a tiny hand on his cheek. For a moment he was startled, thinking he was back in the Enterprise and some unknown creature had entered his quarters and he was under attack.

“Daddy.”

Jim came fully awake and saw the sun streaking through his room. “What time is it?”

“I can’t tell time yet.”

He sighed and glanced at the clock beside his bed. “Six?”

The little girl with the golden curls didn’t seem to care about that. “The Easter Bunny has been here.”

“The what?”

“Easter Bunny.” She jumped up and down. “He left me a basket.”

Jim blinked. “How do you know the Easter Bunny is a he?”

“The bowtie, Daddy.”

“The Easter Bunny has a bowtie?”

She nodded.

Jim frowned. He glanced toward the other side of the bed, which was empty. Right. Spock was currently off planet visiting his ailing clan elder.

“Come on, Daddy!”

Jim got up, a little confused. He was the Easter Bunny and he had planned on putting her Easter basket out this morning while she was outside doing her Easter egg hunt. The Easter Bunny wasn’t real, obviously, so how could a basket be already there?

His mom?

But she wasn’t going to be coming until that afternoon to join them for dinner. She must have slipped in early.

“Grandma here?”

“No, Daddy.” She grabbed his hand. “Come on.”

“Okay, but hang on for just a minute. Daddy wants to get his bathrobe.” Jim went into he bathroom, peed, and then pulled on his robe, allowing his golden haired daughter with her pointy ears to take him with her to the dining room.

Sure enough a giant Easter basket lay on the table filled with candy and stuffed animals and hair bows.

“Uh.”

“See!”

“Yeah, I do, but…” And then on the other side of the table he spotted a satchel that looked very familiar. “Spock?”

And around the corner came Jim’s Vulcan.

“Good morning, Jim.”

She ran up to Spock, who scooped her up in his arms.

“I told Daddy the Easter Bunny had come but he didn’t believe me.”

Jim laughed and went to Spock, leaning past their daughter to give him a quick kiss. “I believe it now. Welcome home.”

I ran out of time or enthusiasm not sure which to get the flash I was working on done for this week, so you get a bit of Kirk family togetherness for Easter.

Happy Easter if you celebrate

“All right, but there’s just no way I’m doing an Easter egg hunt at my age,” Jim told his mom as he squirted egg mixture from a tube into a cooked white for deviled eggs.

She chuckled. “Spoil sport. You know we did have one the year you turned five.”

“I don’t remember that.”

“Most of us don’t remember much at that age. Maybe something fleeting.” She paused to take a sip of her carrot cake flavored coffee.

She’d gone all out on doing Easter when she’d found out they were coming for a visit that coincided with that day. And though they’d never been particularly religious in any way, Jim wanted her to have whatever she wanted to have.

“I didn’t use real eggs. You and Sam did dye some real ones, of course, but I kept those in the fridge.  I put out the fake ones filled with goodies. Of course your brother was a little older and thought the whole thing was lame.”

“He’s the one who’s lame.”

She laughed again. “Anyway, it was fun. With me being on assignment most of the time when you kids were young, we didn’t get a lot of chances to have those moments.” Then her smile fell. “And then of course when Frank was around. That asshole didn’t want to do anything but drink.”

“And belch and swear,” Jim added. He didn’t add throw punches. He didn’t need to.

Jim had come back from Frank sending him to Tarsus IV and it was shortly after that that his mom got rid of Frank for good.

His mom held up a deviled egg. “Try it. How is it?”

Jim took a bite, chewed and swallowed. “Good. Really good. I could eat the whole batch.”

“You have to share with me. Spock won’t eat them, right?”

“Nah. More for me.”

“Well, I have other things he can eat. And I made you both Easter baskets.” She blushed a little. “For the morning.”

Jim laughed. “An Easter basket for a Vulcan? That’s hilarious. What’s it got in it?”

“Never mind. You’ll see tomorrow.”

He shook his head. “I might have to sneak a chocolate egg into his.”

“Who says there isn’t already one in there?” she asked with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes.

“Mom! I’m shocked.”

“You are not.”

“Well, not really,” he agreed. “But I could be.”

She finished filling the last egg white. “There, those are ready now to be put away until tomorrow.”

Spock appeared at the edge of the kitchen and Jim went to him.

“There you are, babe. Finished with your meditation?”

“Indeed.”

“So, let’s go watch a movie.”

His mom put away the deviled eggs. “What are we watching?”

“What do you want to watch? Not some silly fairytale.”

“No, no,” she said. “How about Predator?”

Jim laughed and hugged her. “Deal.”

Today’s flash is brought to you by Bones

Leonard was surprised to see his friend sitting by himself nursing a drinking in Ten Forward. Grabbing himself a drink, he made his way over to Jim’s table.

“What are you doing here?”

“Drinking.”

Bones pulled out a chair and sat. “Where’s Spock?”

“We had a fight…again.”

Leonard frowned. “Again?”

“That’s all we’ve been doing, Bones. Be careful what you wish for. I wanted a Vulcan boyfriend and now…it’s always so contentious.”

“Always?” he asked, skeptically. ‘Bit of an exaggeration, isn’t it?”

Jim just shrugged and took a large swallow of whiskey.

Leonard decided he was far too old for this and he had never set out to be a relationship counselor, but since this was Jim, he’d try.

“From my view, Spock is about as smitten as a guy can be.”

“Yeah?” Jim asked, doubtfully.

“That Vulcan would do anything for you, Jim. Even drink poison meant for you.”

“Who’s trying to poison me?”

“You know what I mean. Not to get too corny but there’s an old song called ‘Everything I Do, I Do For You’ I think Spock could be singing. Fortunately, we’re spared from that,” Leonard cracked. “But I think you get it. What’s prompted this anyway? You having regrets?”

“When I visited my brother and his wife on Deneva, everything was so…good between them. They were so happy and in sync.” Jim paused. “They were like relationship goals.”

“Okay, sure. But what you were seeing was a couple who knew they had visitors, their family, and they were on their best behavior, weren’t they?”

“Probably,” Jim acknowledged.

“You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors, do you? I’m not saying they don’t have a good marriage, but I am willing to bet a million credits, it’s far from perfect.”

“Yeah, okay.”

“Despite what you might think, I think Spock can play nice in front of others too. But he wasn’t there with you. It was just you and your mom there with your brother’s family.”

“I was afraid it was too soon to drag Spock along with me.”

“I doubt he would have felt dragged, Jim. And that’s your problem here. I think Spock expected to be asked to go and when you didn’t, it might have hurt him a little.”

Jim looked down. “I didn’t think about that.”

“I know. You’re used to being on your own. Plus you think your family is way worse than they are. They are your family though and Spock wants to be your family too, so you have to let him in, Jim.”

As if on cue, Leonard noticed Spock approaching their table.

Jim turned as Spock arrived.

“Spock, I’m sorry.”

“It is I who owe an apology.”

Jim rose from his seat, put his hand on Leonard’s shoulder and squeezed. “Thanks, Bones. See you later?”

Leonard smirked. “I’d say not until tomorrow from the looks of it.”

Spock quirked a brow, but Jim laughed.

Leonard’s work was done as the two departed Ten Forward.

And there was Leonard drinking alone.

“Figures,” he muttered, and downed his drink.

Flash Fic, April 04, 2025

This one was suggested by my plant loving friend, Kris. Hope the plant shows up!

Spock knew his captain had not been particularly interested in this particular planet, but he had come along with the landing party anyway because more than anything Kirk hated being left behind.

Consequently on a planet of only plant life, Kirk was bored. And to make that plain, he was flirting currently with Lieutenant Ryan, who to Spock’s annoyance…flirted back.

Spock stopped before a giant plant that was more than twice the size of the humanoid currently examining it. Perhaps three times. He had never seen anything like it.

Kirk sauntered up next to him. “What have you got there, Commander?”

Spock glanced at him briefly. “You are aware that Ilea Ryan is married, are you not?”

“Hmm. What? Yeah, of course.”

“You were flirting.”

“Was not. And I am too, so what’s your point? What is this thing?”

“A rather fascinating plant that—”

“A plant, huh?” Kirk stepped closer. “It sure is ugly.”

“Captain, I don’t think…Jim!”

At that moment the plant suddenly opened wide, like a gigantic mouth, and swallowed Kirk up into it.

“Spock!!!”

All Spock could see was Kirk’s feet, but in just a few seconds, those too hand disappeared. The captain gave one final cry and then went silent as the plant bounced up and down.

Spock lifted his phaser and shot at the giant plant’s stem. It wriggled but did not release its prey.

“Commander,” Sulu rushed over. “Did this thing eat the captain?”

“It did not eat him, Mister Sulu,” Spock insisted. “But it has abducted him. I am going to pry its mouth open, you stand by to fire should the need arise.”

Spock braced himself and then moved his hands to where he had seen the plant swallow Kirk. Spock managed to successfully separate the two parts of the plant, and he reached his arm in, searching for the captain.

His hand finally felt shirt material, Spock gabbed on to it and pulled hard.

Suddenly he landed on the ground, Kirk falling on top of him. Overhead, Sulu shot at the plant until it stopped moving toward them.

But Kirk didn’t seem to be breathing.

“Spock to Enterprise. Immediate beam up directly to the medbay.”

A moment later the transporter engaged.

****

Both Spock and McCoy stood next to the biobed as Kirk’s eyes fluttered opened.

“What the—” He sat up abruptly.

“Easy, Jim.” McCoy settled him back down. “Don’t get all worked up.”

“What happened?”

“You do not recall?”

Kirk scrunched his face. “Not really.”

McCoy smiled. “You almost became plant food.”

“What? Oh my God. That plant ate me?”

Spock arched a brow. “Since you are in fact here, Captain, it did not eat you.”

“Came close, though,” the doctor declared with a cheerful chuckle. “Luckily for you, your husband saved you. Again.”

Kirk’s gaze followed McCoy as he moved away, then landed on Spock.

“Uh, thanks, babe.”

“If you had not been on that planet where—”

“Yeah, yeah.”

Spock softened. “You should rest, Jim. I will be here when you wake.”

“Like always.”

“Like aways.”
