So glad to be home! I had a great time. But it took 7 hours to get home due to construction issue on the freeway. I am SOOOOO exhausted.
Random Thoughts
- Anson M is an asshole. That’s Pike in the new shows. Never have I missed Bruce Greenwood so much. People (me included) paid $100 for a photo with him. They paid $200 for a photo with him and Rebecca and $200 for a photo with Ethan and him. They paid $480 for a group photo with the whole cast that was there. He wore a mask. We all had to be vaxxed or tested in order to be there. We wore masks all through the convention except for our photo ops. He had the option of plexiglass between him and the rifraff. Several chose this including Sonequa. This was fine. But nope, not him. He ruined every single picture a fan took with him. And he was stiff as a damn statue. He was THE ONLY ONE who did this at the entire convention, Ladies and gentlemen we have our new asshole for the fandom. Sorry but that’s my assessment. Edited to add: And yes, sure, he has every right to decide to wear a mask. And I have every right to be informed so that I can make the decision whether I want to pay $100 for someone no one would ever recognize. Look there is a NEW Official Star Trek Convention. It began this year in Chicago and is co-sponsored by CBS/VIACOM. They charged $80 for Anson not $100 and declared up front he would wear a mask. They did the same with Wil Wheaton. Fair enough. Fans there could decide. But I sure as hell wouldn’t pay a dime for a masked actor no one would known from the Lone Ranger. So yes it goes back to the greed Of Creation. But I still think he could have chosen plexiglass instead of ruining hundreds of pictures
- Ethan P is a great guy. He’s Spock in the new shows. Friendly, funny and took free photos in the vendors room with fans that he was not supposed to do as you are supposed to “pay” so Creation Entertainment makes boatloads of money off you. What a great example for the fandom. He was great.
- Walter K was a sweetheart. 85 and he greeted fans warmly and hugged them and petted dogs.
- Doug Jones is also a sweetheart. Sonequa used the plexiglass but Doug did not in the same photo. Michael and Saru in Discovery (he’s famous for other things too like Hocus Pocus). So friendly and sweet and welcoming. Hugged everyone. Great humor. So so good.
- Creation Entertainment are thieves. They rip off us fans left and right. They lost the Star Trek license and the right to call it the “Official” convention and it shows. So disorganized. And the guy who runs it is as arrogant as can be. I loathe him.
- Vegas is still loads of fun but ridiculously expensive.
- I love Star Trek. All of it. I came back with a renewed enthusiasm for all of it and I can’t wait to watch it all again. Wow. And all the fans there were absolute treasures this time. We met a guy with his 16 year old daughter. They flew out for one day as they could only get a one day admission as the rest had sold out. They were dressed from SNW and he even had his hair done like Pike. He looked more like Anson than Anson did lol. She was so cute. She wanted to meet Denise Crosby but she was too shy so she took a secret picture of her. The minute we got there wearing our Trek shirts people came to us and asked, Hey, do you know where we register? It was one big happy family and I hadn’t felt that at other conventions, so that was wonderful.
- It’s going to be 100s here this week and just ugh! LOL

Oh I’m so glad you had an awesome time. Despite some of the celebrities and the convention as a whole being crappy people. The people made it worth it and it sounds like the majority of the actors were good too. Renewed enthusiasm is always exciting! To be reminded why you love something is a treat.

I did have a great time but we are definitely tired of the greed of Creation. Many were saying the same thing. Our tickets were $350. The top tier paid $1100 EACH. And the con as a whole was very thin on content.

Sorry Anson was an asshole. Idk sone people are just germophobes, especially in crowds and especially after Covid and he has a young baby as does Sonequa. 🤷🏻♀️ But I know it doesn’t help with paying for a photo. At least his photo cost less! Paying for part of his face?
I agree about the rest of the actors there. From seeing what they post on Instagram, they seem like genuinely nice people!
I’m glad you had a good time and the other fans were welcoming. Too bad the organizers aren’t fans first, sounds like they are just peddling their commodity! 😦

Welcome back and don’t work too hard. I’m away from home and work for a few days and just had breakfast. The hotel lobby has an automatic pancake maker that’s hands-free. You wave your hand in front of the button and the pancake is made and cooks on a little conveyor belt. Gonna have to take a video of it tomorrow. Lol!!
On your last post on this blog I put in a comment. And I accidentally put in my email as it asks me to do every time and instead of.com I wrote .go. And somehow or other wordpress let me post it! Didn’t try to tell me that it was an inaccurate email address. Weird!

No it didn’t cost less. It cost $100. Sorry I was ripped off. It cost less at ANOTHER con not mine. And that’s the point, isn’t it? If we had been advised ahead of time we could have decided not to buy his photo. We were not. And I am sure they knew. As for being a germaphobe and having a baby? There are options. One, don’t agree to do photoops being the first one. If you are, using the plexiglass as every other celeb who had an issue did. So nope. That doesn’t fly with me. Many photos were ruined. He simply could have said NO to doing the photos. Patrick Steward does all of the time.

I’m truly shocked about Anson. I know he’s one of your faves. And one of the reasons I begged the franchise for a new series with him and Ethan. Though, blah blah.
Anyway, I don’t get why he did that, at least opting away from the plexiglass.
Ethan, in everything I see and hear about him, seems to be a really great guy. He’s a huge addition to the ST world, I think. More for the way HE is than his Spock. And I enjoyed his Spock on DiscoS2.
Sorry for the heat. I am grateful we’ve been away from the 100’s – finally, about I’d say about 50 days of 100+ temps since the 2nd week of May (which I’ve never seen that in my decades living here). BUT on the other hand, it is 75 right now with humidity so insanely high, I’d take a dry 100 over this any day. Miserable!
Construction IS exhausting – more, seemingly, on the way home from vaca. To me anyway.
You were highly missed here! And I can’t wait for Friday’s new Academy fic. Yay! Back to more fics a week. I have no idea how it is to write so many fics a month as you do, and you have no idea how awful it is to NOT have them to wake up to! LOL

Yeah I mean the show is super popular with the fans judging by the con and I do intend to watch it (yep I know your feelings well LOL), but eh on him. Years ago Bruce was supposed to come but he canceled, which was a bummer. I doubt any of the AOS guys will ever show up to Creation (I know Zach was allegedly supposed to) as with there now being an official one that the studio is part of I am sure they would be encouraged to go there. Ah well. I had a great time anyway.
It normally takes 4 and 1/2 to 5 hours so you can see why 7 was hideous.
LOL yep new stuff starts Friday. So far it’s a bit of a series with the ones I have written. I think it will probably be the same all month we shall see!

I wonder if SNW had a chance at a more basic popularity in the first place because it is based on TOS characters we already knew and loved (though obviously NOT canon – the characters are just people who they gave those familiar names – but they’re NOTHING like the original characters from what I’ve seen. Maybe Pike is. Maybe Spock is a little. Una? We didn’t get much development from her in the pilot so….but she seems, again from what I’ve seen, a really great character) – they’re on the Enterprise, we knew Pike from the original pilot, and obviously – it has SPOCK. I mean, I’m not sure Disco would ever have gained so much popularity had they not added Enterprise/Pike/Spock as the teaser at the end of S1 and throughout 2.
So with the addition of Sam Kirk (NOT CANON) and eventually Jim, if they keep bandying about the names of the original characters, maybe that’s their strong base. They’re already renewed for season THREE. (I think? 2 is already…maybe done with filming?)

OK, so I’ve been musing further on the Anson/mask thing.
What if HE isn’t the jerk?
What if his wife, Darah, mother of said baby, gave him marching orders: “I see you in ONE photo without your mask on among those thousands of people, don’t even BOTHER showing up home till you’ve gone through 5 full days of quarantine SOMEWHERE ELSE! Cause you’re not getting NEAR this baby or me till after 5 days, at which time you will present me 2 negative COVID tests. Those people come from all over the world!
Would that make you not so angry at him? Cause you love him.

Nope. And I am angrier at Creation more than him. Because at least at another convention he appeared at it was announced to people before they purchased their $80 photop tickets so they could decide whether they wanted a picture with a person no one would recognize as anything other than a tall, gray haired man. Creation charged $100 and made no effort to inform their customers so that they had their chance to spend their hard earned money on someone else who would at least opt for the plexiglass.
Setting all that aide, Anson had a choice. If he didn’t feel comfortable going unmasked (which he took off among his co-stars) then he had the option of telling the convention organizers that he didn’t want to do photops given what people would be paying for. He could still do autographs, as he did, masked and behind a plexiglass. No one forces the Star Trek celebs to do photoops, that is their choice. Patrick Stewart has appeared before at conventions, including this one, and had not done photops. No one came at him with pitchforks over it. They accepted that as his choice.
Anson had that same choice and chose to be part of charging fans $100 or more (depending on the photoop, one was $500) for a gray haired tall man in a mask.
I don’t earn a lot of money. I would have rather put that toward another celeb had I been informed ahead of time. So yeah, I am still annoyed and still think ill of his choices, whatever the motivation

I am okay with people disagreeing with me over it.
But there was a man who flew in for just the day Anson was going to be there with his teenaged daughter. They were both dressed in full on SNW costumes, had clearly paid a lot for them. They had paid to get their hair done, his was done to look just like Anson’s. He looked great. They were full of excitement and enthusiasm. Their first convention. They’d left it too late to get the full convention but were excited to get the one day ticket and were already planning for next year. Teenaged daughter went around taking pics of other Star Trek celebs. She was giddy and so cute. I loved them.
They stood in front of us in line and Dad, whom I nicknamed Pike Jr, turned to us and said, “He’s keeping the mask on”, Now, did he curse him and get angry? No. But you could see their excitement deflate like air let out of a balloon.
I can take it. It sucked but I have been disappointed before and nothing could top the Zach disappointment for me. But that…that hurt for them.
And it was just not necessary.

Oh I don’t disagree with you. If I’d been there, I’d have pulled an embarrassing all-out stink about it.
But I am neutral on Anson pretty much as an actor.
And I know YOU liked him so much. I was just trying to find a way to salvage that for you. (My 2 comments were ME on the phone with Anson, telling him he’s out of luck getting you back.)

Ehh re-watching season 2 of Disco I think his Pike is a bit of an arrogant jerk but he is handsome
Honestly I would have rather taken my photo with Pike Jr as he looked more like Pike than masked Anson LOL
Sigh, Bruce Greenwood was slated to be at the 2014 convention I was at but he canceled. As far as I know he was never asked back, too bad. He rocked it, IMO

Well….unlike you, I pretty much hated Disco season 1, so to me Anson/Pike and Ethan/Spock salvaged that show. I probably would have never watched it again if they hadn’t brought them and the Enterprise in and did some heavy explaining at the end of S2. So I didn’t even notice.
And in all honesty, I like arrogant Anson/Pike MUCH more than that wild eyed weird comic thing he does with his eyes Anson/Pike in SNW. I WILL send you a clip when I find one.

Thing is, though, it’s probably been done already. By many and much better than I ever could. I just did this one because I thought maybe it was a new take on the split that nobody else had written.

Do you know how many times I’ve written the same damn idea ad nauseum? How many fics do I have on A03? They are all the same story over and over and over. How do I get Character A to be with Character B. It’s how you tell the individual story that matters.
And sure….if you want to embrace technicality it can count

You have NEVER written ANY idea “ad nauseum.” Cause I’ve read almost all. And the only queasiness I ever feel is over the characters and their sadnesses, injuries and angsts.
