It was unlike Spock to be late, though he had tried everything he could not to be, but it hadn’t been able to be helped, and so, consequently, as he rushed home, his anxiety level had, as his husband would say, skyrocketed.
San Francisco had decided to pour rain on his journey home, which only soured Spock’s mood as he made his way, on foot, to the apartment building where the apartment he shared with Jim could be found.
He used hand recognition to access the front doors of the building and then scurried over to the stairs rather than the lift.
When he reached the floor where the apartment was, the fifth, it was as he feared. Jim was stepping out the door, luggage bag clutched in his hands. He turned to look at Spock as Spock approached.
“Thought you weren’t going to make it,” Jim admitted.
“I almost didn’t. One moment.” Spock brushed past Jim and into their apartment, rushing into the bedroom to seize his already packed bag. He returned to Jim, waiting in the hallway.
“You could have caught the next shuttle,” Jim told him. “I left a note. It’s just I had to—”
“Leave, yes. I know. I prefer we travel together.” Spock pursed his lips, trying to keep a most illogical emotional outburst from happening.
“You okay?”
“Affirmative. I just…I prefer we spent all our time together.”
Jim smiled and touched his fingers to Spock’s. “Me too, honey. You ready?”
Feeling illogically relieved Jim had not departed without him, Spock fell into step beside him. Their shoulders touched as they walked in sync.

Aww Spock! I love this. He’s so anxious which is different for him, but everything is when it comes to Jim. Love the love and affection here! So good.

Oh, so now Jim decided to be the calm one instead of the panicky one. That’s really good news, because that means he feels secure with Spock. I don’t mind seeing Spock … worry a little. A little.

Yep they are a bit older here, so Jim has calmed a bit and Spock worries for the time he won’t have Jim.

Now I’m wondering where Jim is rushing off to?! A funeral of a family member, perhaps hs mother’s?? Or is it the christening of the Enterprise-B? Whatever it is it seems to be serious. Not like just a vacation. Is Spock having a premonition about something going wrong or is he just fretting unnecessarily?
You built quite a tense scene here. I’m certainly glad that Spock made it in time.

Well, there’s the old adage, “Always leave ’em wanting more.”
I think that’s more the one your very being lives by. It wouldn’t be you if it wasn’t that way.

And seriously, it’s because:
1. You often leave some little seed of mystery, as eveningstar said above – where were they going??? Why was Spock so desperate to get home in time to go with Jim? A meeting? A trip? A medical procedure? The dentist?? haha
2. You often introduce us to some sinister or really super cute OC that makes us want/need more about them!!
I think that’s why we’re left wanting more.
And if you didn’t write to professionally, heck, we’d not even care much, you know? You’re a weaver of tales and mysteries and OMG CLIFFIES!!!

Like you said on MD, those who have read you for very long are trained by history to ALWAYS be waiting for the other shoe to drop.

you make some excellent points. thanks for giving me things to think about
For this particular story, I was just thinking Jim had a meeting to go to somewhere and Spock was supposed to go with him, at this point in their lives, he just likes to travel with his husband, that was pretty much all I had in my head ha ha 🙂
