Here are the recent movies I’ve seen and my review of them:
Spoilers ahead
Kong: Skull Island
Man proves how evil they are once again, really. This time in the form of Samuel L. Jackson as a somewhat bloodthirsty colonel. I can see where he’s coming from and I don’t think he’s all bad. It’s sort of ambiguous here. Kong does immediately attack them upon reaching the island and kills several of the men he’s responsible for. Kong has his own reasons, of course, and isn’t the monster Jackson thinks he is. I liked this movie and found most of the characters in it likable. And Tom Hiddleston, who obviously did some bulking up for this role, with his exposed and beautiful biceps was quite the pleasure to ogle I must say.
Beauty and the Beast
Casting in this movie was perfection as far as I was concerned. I was a fan of Jerry Orbach and his roles over the years but I still think Ewan was pretty good as Lumiere. And I adore Ian Mckellan in whatever he does. But Emma Watson was a fantastic Belle and Luke Evans and Josh Gads as Gaston and LeFou were genius. Add the guy who played the beast/prince who is the cartoon prince come to life and…well it was great. There were a couple extra songs that I didn’t really think added much but for the most part, it deserves the success it’s been having in the box office and I think if you enjoyed the Disney animated movie, you will quite enjoy this.
The Siege
This is an old movie from the late 1990s with Denzel Washington, Annette Benning and Bruce Willis. We saw it as a Netflix movie. I have to say I thought it was really well done and seemed very appropriate to our current times as it deals with terrorist attacks and bigotry toward those of the Muslim faith. Denzel is great in anything he does and the other two are no slouches either. Plus they were about 20 years younger than they are now and were pretty easy on the eyes. There’s a part where Muslims are rounded up and forced to stay in Yankee stadium in NY as part of martial law that I think isn’t all that far off from reality at this point. A striking movie, considering it all happened before 09/11.
Arrival
I’d heard good things about this one and finally got a chance to see a DVD copy. Basically Amy Adams is a language expert tapped to talk to aliens who have arrived in Montana. Along the way she sees visions of her daughter who died of a disease. She works closely with a scientist played by Jeremy Renner. I was frankly pretty bored. I think the other two who watched it with me were a little more interested in it than I was, but I found it kind of slow, to be honest, and not the amazing movie all the commercials led you to believe. I think it was nominated for some awards too, though I don’t think it won. The so-called shocking ending wasn’t a shock at all. Everyone who watched it with me said they had figured out that’s what the deal was before the ending came. So, um, yeah.
I remember years ago watching The Sixth Sense, and THAT was how to do a shocking ending.
This? Not so much.
So those are my current movie reviews.

I agree completely about Beauty and the Beast.
If I watch Kong, it’ll be for Tom Hiddelston alone. LOL.
Kind of sad that Arrival wasn’t all it was cracked up to be but now I know I’ll be giving it a complete pass.
Thanks!

Thank you for the reviews!
I have seen Kong—agree with your review. Enjoyable movie and yes, Hiddleston’s biceps 😊
Seen Beauty and the Beast as well—again, agree with your review. Although I did really love Beast’s song
I think I need to watch The Siege now and that I can skip watching Arrival. I’d probably be bored by it as well

As a huge fan of Tom Hiddleston, I was so pleased with his acting as well as the rest of the cast in the Kong: Skull Island movie. His physique was an added bonus.
I have had seen Beauty and Beast yet but plan to soon. I doubt I would see the Arrival. I heard reviews about it from some friends.
I saw the Denzel Washington film years ago and it is a good film. I think I’ll see it again.
Thanks for the reviews!

Yeah I can’t really recommend Arrival but it is at least better than Interstellar which nearly killed me with boredom as well as went on way way too long.

OMG Interstellar about killed me too. I thought the premise was alright, but too long and I kept yelling in my head ‘why can’t ya’ll fix your crops? why can’t ya’ll get a better filtration system for houses and buildings so dust stays out? you put all this research and man power into a starship but you can’t fix the other stuff?’
Sorry, thats where my mind went during that movie. My science friend Eleni loved it and kept pointing out science-y stuff on the starships and stuff

By the end of Interstellar I just didn’t care about any of them or anything anymore. I was like blow up the damn planet, I just don’t care.

I never saw InGoing to watch Boss baby with theterstellar, I trailer did not appeal to me.
Hey I forgot to mention I had a dream last night you hosted a movie/film group in your home. Jaime and I were invited. Everyone was discussing their favorite Star Trek films, at the end of the discussion you and Milo showed us a copy of footage from the newest Star Trek film in production. It was a nice dream.

Does sound like quite the dream!
Have fun seeing Boss Baby. It wasn’t something I was terribly interested in seeing.

Meant to day I never saw Interstellar, the trailer did not appeal to me. Going to watch boss baby with the boys and Lee this week. I will wear my earplugs, do not like hearing baby crying in films.

It would have been a better dream if Chris Pine was there but I still smiling about it.

I’ve watched Kong and I guess I kind of agree? Yes, Kong pretty much attacked right away, on the other hand they just started throwing bombs around. I have to admit I wouldn’t invite you for coffee if that were the way you’d come into my house.
Beauty and the Beast – I want to watch it, but I need to find someone to watch it with first.
I’m old enough to remember having watched The Siege and I agree with you on that one.
I did consider watching Arrival at some point, but I guess I’ll skip it now. So not a problem :).

Oh I definitely see where Kong is coming from believe me. But I can see the mindset from the colonel too. Ultimately even when he was told Kong wasn’t a bad guy like he thought, he continued to insist on killing him, so yeah he was not a nice man. But I did find him complicated.
Well…I mean it’s possible others would like it (Arrival), I just didn’t LOL
